Pdf Printing - Sorry another question

Hi all
I am just getting to grips with apex 3 and looking at some of the new features. I am particularly interested in pdf printing and trying to get a grip on the art of the possible without using BI publisher.
I have read most of the forum posts on the subject and Carl Backstrom’s great blog:
http://carlback.blogspot.com/
I have been through his example without any problem
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:139
Next I have been trying to see what can be done with some of the 3ed Party tools suggested; Atova XML Spy and Atova StyleVision.
I did the following:
1.     Export XML from apex report
2.     Open in XML spy
3.     Generate DTD schema
4.     Create a new SPS in StyleVision based on XML and DTD
5.     Generate xslt-fo
6.     Load xslt in print region in apex and voila…. Error
I have put the generated xslt onto apex.oracle.com with an example
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=579:13
Am I barking up the wrong tree? Or should this be possible. It renders ok with the Apache FOP that comes with StyleVision.
Perhaps there is a problem with the xslt?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Simon

Hello,
After a brief look it looks like it is a namespace issues. See here are my namespaces
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:fo="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Format" xmlns:htmldb_r="http://htmldb.oracle.com/report" xmlns:svg="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg">and here's the one you have
<xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:fn="http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-functions" xmlns:xdt="http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-datatypes" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:fo="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Format" xmlns:altova="http://www.altova.com">See if there is an export that exports with only xslt namespace and I would at least start with XSLT version 1.0

  • Tomcat/Cocoon/APEX PDF printing. Another issue

    Hi All,
I am trying to implement my own custom report layout for the following simple Report query
    select e.DEPTNO, d.DNAME, d.LOC, e.ENAME, e.JOB
    from emp e, dept d
    where e.deptno = d.deptno
    The steps are the following
    1. Create Report Query
    2. Download XML file
    3. Use Stylus Studio to create XSL-FO (XSLT 2.0) based on XML data downloaded in
    previous step.
    4. Go back to Report query and upload XSL-FO file to APEX (layout name 'MyLayout' is also specified).
    Finish Report Query creation
    5. Enter Report Query again, select report layout 'MyLayout' and select Test Report
The result is a failure with some java cocoon exception:
org.apache.cocoon.ProcessingException: Unknown request object encountered named template : null
    Cocoon stacktrace[hide]
    Exception in StreamGenerator.generate() context://fop_post/sitemap.xmap - 17:32 <map:serialize type="xml">

    context://fop_post/sitemap.xmap - 30:38 <map:generate>
    context://sitemap.xmap - 1034:92 <map:mount>
It seems to me that XSL-FO that I created for this layout is rejected somehow by APEX and not passed to Coccon at all.
Guys, what am I doing wrong ? I will appreciate any help.
    Regards,
    Vadim

    Hi Mike,
My standard printing is working nicely. That's the custom reporting that I experience problems with.
After 8 hours of googling and 4 cups of coffee I figured out where the problem was. When you define XSL-FO file you need to 'escape' every occurence of % sign. For example you cannot define width= "100%" because APEX will pass this unchanged to Tomcat and Tomcat in turn will reject this but still passing NULL template pointer to Cocoon. Taking into consideration very poor logging capabilities one can spend hours trying to fugure out what is hapenning. APEX should be smart enough to escape characters or at least there should be a doco somewhere listing the rules you need to follow whem creating FO stylesheets.
I must admit that the whole APEX PDF printing using Tomcat/Cocoon (and probably Fop because that's what used by Cocoon behind the scene anyway) is unfortunately a hack. Reporting does not have to be that complex.
I would be extremely grateful if somebody can tell me what sort of XML tool is best suited to generate XSL-FO files that can be easily understood by APEX/Tomcat/Cocoon.
    Regards,
    Vadim

I've uninstalled the software, reinstalled the latest drivers and software, and am still unable to print. The printer is listed as online and ready, but no printing.
    any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Greg

I have a MacBook Air 11.6" running OSX 10.6.5 and cannot print to my Canon MF4350d attached to my AirPort Express, with printer sharing selected. HAve reinstalled software over and over agin. Turned printer off, unplugged, etc. No luck. Says it cannot find the software for the printer. The computer can "see" where my printer is located, but the printer will not print. Nothing seems to wrk. Any ideas what might be going on and how I can fix it? By the way, I was able to print directly to this printer connected to my computer's USB, but now even when I do this the same problem occurs. ALL ability to print seems to be GONE. COuld it be related to the recent upgrade to OSX 10.6.5?

  • (sorry) another question re: file size and readability

    Hi there,
Just upgraded my computer at work as we are doing more presentation work at the moment for our clients and wanted to take it to the next level with some video instead. Premiere Elements 9 installed (and after a few niggles) running reasonably well.
We need to do a quick e-mailable (less than 10MB) movie to send out to multiple recipients (including a soundtrack).
We're aiming for around 40secs in total.
Now.... Running in Snow Leopard on a brand new Mac, I have only found one file type I can export to that actually allows me to view the video on my Mac. Even the mpg files aren't playing in either QT or iTunes (even most of the .mov files aren't playing in quicktime )
The only filetype I have gotten to work so far is a .mov with a test vid I made but that was around 325MB for 1:30min of footage!
Anyone able to shed any light on this at all?
Just incase it helps at all, the movie will need to be playable by Mac and PC preferably (if only one, then PC as most of our customers are PC based)
Thanks ever so much for your time!
I'll let you know if I can figure this out!
    D

    Dang!
    That's scuppered that plan then.
One other problem I'm having is getting titles to remain clear in both preview and export (even when exporting larger filesizes)
Any ideas about that one at all?
    Thanks again for your time!

  • Sorry another question

i'm from egypt and we didn't have an apple store , should i wait ios 7.0.5 to fix this problem

    Hi,
There should be an Apple ASR (Approved Service Retailer) somewhere in Egypt. These do what Apple Stores do, but only they're not actually Apple. But I would recommend waiting for iOS 7.0.5 to fix the problem first.
    Hope this helps!

  • Sorry another question, I need a carkit.................that will..........

........play over FM radio AND be used as a bluetooth carkit for calls preferably over the FM radio again (less install and wires) at the moment have possibly the only bluetooth carkit with issues with the iPhone (typical) so i need a replacement. I hope one exists if not what do you suggest?

According to the Parrot Support site:
"The Parrot Software Update Tool is only available for Windows."
So you would need to install Windows on your iMac, first, in order to download the file.  Your Mac's OS X cannot read Windows based files.

  • Booklet to PDF print preset settings not saved

I'm using ID CS4 on Vista64 Business and trying to output numerous booklet layouts to PDF for a client to print in-house at their premises. My lo-res tests work perfectly on their printer, I now need to output everything @ 300dpi etc.
I've set up a print preset to use the Adobe PDF printer driver and set all defaults I can find (Control panel etc) to High Quality output.
Interrogating the preset directly reports settings as "High Quality" but when using the Booklet Print dialogue Setup button to check the printer prefs, it always shows (and outputs) "Standard" settings.
Is there a way to get the ID Booklet option to remember the default PDF printer prefs?  It's a real pain to change these manually for each print run.
Thanks, any advice gratefully received.  [  I'm probably missing something embarrassingly fundamental.  ~:o(  ]

    Hi Peter,
I can only find a printer folder under Control Panel > Printers. This is where I've already changed the PDF Printer defaults without success. Oddly, I appear to have fixed it by renaming the print driver instance there to "Adobe PDFx" (probably any other name would also work).
Whilst troubleshooting, I found I could also see another network "Adobe PDF printer" on another machine. I had a look over the settings there and saw the option "render print job on client machine". This got me thinking I might NOT have been using the LOCAL PDF printer setup and was just fooling myself.
I changed the local PDF Printer name to be certain I could identify it correctly and Hey Presto!, it suddenly started accepting the preset changes. I changed it back to "Adobe PDF" and it reverted back to the "standard" settings and just ignores everything.
It may be a weird Vista 64 security thing, this OS does some very annoying things when trying to access stuff, even though I have master admin privileges.
I'll simply leave the printer name as "PDFx" for now as this is getting the job done.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Another question - I'm sorry!

I'm sorry to bother you guys with another question. =p Just a quickie- How exactly do I get a movie from a DVD onto my computer after putting it in the drive? This is probably another stupid question, haha. ^_^; But I honestly haven't a clue.
    THANK YOU in advance!! =)

It may be a quick question... but there's certainly no quick answer to it.
The topic of DVD ---> iPod has been covered thoroughly in these forums already. There's literally hundreds of topics which answer your question for you.
I would suggest that you search through the forums to find your answer, rather than start a whole new topic with duplicate information.

  • Another problem with PDF printing

    Hi all.
I try new pdf printing in Apex 3.0 with printing engine Apache FOP and BI Publisher. Both engines seems work well. I configured Apex engine to use Standard Support for pdf.
Next I imported example application http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/packaged_apps/pdf_demo.zip and run it. But when I press "print" link, instead pdf output I receive error page "404 Not Found The requested URL /pls/apex/f was not found on this server."
Apex 3.0 reside on Oracle 9.0.2 database server and use it http server with modplsql. Both Apache FOP and BI Publisher works on standalone OC4J container.
In Apex's http-server error log I noticed next error messages:

  • GlassFish PDF Printing question

    Hi all,
I am looking into some options of integrating PDF Printing to our APEX application.
So far I've managed to have Apache FOP and Tomcat+Cocoon working.
Has anybody tried to have PDF printing capabilities with GlassFish as web server? If so, are there any hints/documents available out there?
    Kind Regards,
    Ana

    Hi all,
Here's what I have done so far is:
    1. Set up GlassFish App Server - all went OK
    2. Connect to admin console: http://host:4848/
    3. Navigate to WebApplications then deploy fop.war from apex install (however it is not possible to set Context Root to null as it gets set with "fop")
    4. Next in APEX set the following :
    Host: localhost
    Port: 8080
    Print Server Script: /fop/apex_fop.jsp
I am getting many errors when I try to generate a report to Word, one of which I am pasting below:

  • PDF printing capabilities

    Hi there
I have here in Apex3 a report that, using some CSS/HTML tricks (basically a div element with specific CSS classes), I managed to colour some of the cells based on their contents.
Now the user wants to export it to PDF format, what was easily achieved using Apache FOP. However, of course, the div trick does not work with PDF and a nbsp (which I put inside the div) is displayed instead of the colouring.
PDF generation is new to me, so I have a few questions regarding it... Is it possible to colour cells in a report and do fancy things like that, as you can do in HTML? Or is PDF printing only able to display simple reports, with plain text?
Can anyone provide a link to a sample application that shows all the capabilities of PDF printing? (ideally with Apache FOP)
If such functionality cannot be achieved because of Apache FOP limitations, if I use the Oracle printing suite product (sorry, can't remember its name) will those limitations be overcome?
    Thanks,
    Luis

    Hi Luis,
You can create some incredibly complex and rich reports using the BI Publisher (BIP) integration that APEX allows. In your report template (using the BIP plugins) you can use conditional logic to make colour columns/rows etc depending on certain criteria.
It is possible to do this yourself using the (free) Apache FOP solution, however it involves a great deal of hand-crafting the XSL-FO code yourself (not a task to be taken lightly, but entirely possible).
If you have the budget for it (or your requirement is urgent), then I highly recommend using BIP, if you don't have the budget then I recommend Apache FOP and a bottomless coffee pot and ready access to a local bakery (you're going to need the caffeine and sugar to get you through the manual XSL-FO coding).
Another possibility is to investigate PL/PDF (www.plpdf.com) which might suit your needs.
    Hope this helps,
    John.

  • Adding PDF printer

I own a copy of Acrobat 8 pro and after upgrading to Leopard, I can't seem to add the PDF printer in my printer preference window. After clicking the add printer button, I can see the PDF printer available to add, however I can't actually add it until I select a driver. The only driver in the list is the Adobe PDF 3016.102. I've tried to use this one but have no luck creating PDF's. I tried contact Adobe about the issue, but they aren't much help. Any ideas?

Thanks for the response. I did know you could create pdf's directly from the print window. That makes sense about Acrobat not working with Leopard yet, because I had some other issues trying to combine a couple pdf's into one document after my upgrade. Here's another one for you- I plan to install Windows XP through boot camp. Since I have a full (Mac) version of Acrobat, do you think I'll be able to "share" that printer on the Windows side and create PDF's when working in Windows? And if so, is there a common drive that I can save the PDF to in order to access the document when on the Mac side? Sorry so many questions. I'm still have a hard time wrapping my head around the whole Mac/ Windows thing on the same machine. Technology....

  • PDF printer has a problem with Safari in "Reader" mode in Windows7

As shown in the image above. When I try to use the PDF printer to print out a web page in Safari "Reader" mode, the lines near the bottom of each page get squeezed like this. There is no problem with XPS printer. I guess this problem is because of some incorrect settings in Safari or the PDF printer?
My system is Windows 7 Pro. I am using Acrobat X Pro. The page I am trying to print is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_band_structure. This problem only happens when the webpage is adjusted into "Reader" mode in Safari.

    Many thanks for your reply!
I am sorry, I did not make my question clear. I would like to save some web pages only in "Reader" mode, because in this mode all the advertisements are filtered out and the pages look much nicer than the origional layout.
I first let Safari to active "Reader" by clicking "Reader" button.
Then I click "Print" button and select Adobe PDF as the printer.
The problem is the PDF file has something wrong (shown above), and I would like to know how to avoid this problem.

  • Using PDF Printer in XP Mode within Windows 7 64-bit (need x86 driver)

This question was asked before and there was no response. (See   http://forums.adobe.com/thread/782430 )
I have practically the same question.
My desktop has as Windows 7 64-bit on it, and Adobe Acrobat X installed on it  I have an application that I have to run in XP Mode.
How can I install the print driver in both places without buying another license?  They are running on the same machine.
I tried to connecting to the shared PDF Printer using a network printer, but Adobe Acrobat only installs the 64-bit driver, and the XP Mode needs the x86 driver installed.
I found that I can go to the  printer properties and it has an option to add the  X86 driver but asks for the .inf file.
I believe this version of Acrobat came as part of a bundle, but not positive. Can't find a disk anywhere and also looked for a driver on my PC. No luck.
I know this is a fully licensed product. So anyone know where I can find the driver?
    John

How is Acrobat 8 not fully Windows 7 compatible?  I see discussions on this Adobe Community saying how Acrobat 8 does work on Windows 7 and with 64-bit.  It appears that if Acrobat 8 is updated to the latest version, then this should fix AA8-Win7 issues.  And I am at the latest AA8 version, 8.3.1.
And how are Acrobat 8 and Reader XI are not compatible?  I have always had Acrobat and Reader installed on the same PC, without ever having any issues.  And Adobe allows the installation of one after the other.  So apparently Adobe allows them both to exist together.  If they are incompatible, then why would Adobe allow them to exist together?
Anyway, I did uninstall the FileOpen Plug-in and the Reader XI, then reinstalled the FileOpen Plug-in.  So now Reader is not installed and only Acrobat 8 is installed.  I then tried to load the PDF file, but I still get the Acrobat 8 error described above.
