Global Default View

Hi there,
is it possible to change the global Default View? I can change the default view per library, however we have many, many document libraries in each site and subsite. I've tried changing the AllItems.aspx
file under .../Shared Documents/Forms and then creating a new library to see if the AllItems.aspx inherits from that file. It appears it does not. The part I modified was inside the <ViewFields> tags. There were no html errors.
Does anyone have any advice for me?
Cheers

Hi Catty,
There are no global default view in SharePoint.
All created sites are based on a Site Template which include predefined library.
Ex : A team site is created with a Shared Document library.
These document libraries are created with the out of the box SCHEMA.XML which define the fields and the ViewFields
Ex : A document library has its own Schema.XML defined here : C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\DocumentLibrary\DocLib\schema.xml
Each of the out of the box library created are defined with this XML file.
You could modify this XML but it's not a good practice to do any changes to existing out of the box files under the \15\ folder.
Ex : If you change the default Document library XML and you apply a Service Pack or a CU, your changes could be overwritten.
Also, it would not change all the already created document libraries views but only the new ones.
Given the explanation, here is my recommandation :
1) Create a PowerShell script to change all the existing views (You might want to open a seperate ticket if you need help on that).
2) Create a document library template with the viewfields that you want. Save it as a template and ask your super users to create new document library using this template.
Hope this helps!

  • JSF Portlet default view (FacesPortlet)

    If we are creating a JSF based portlet using Sun's JSF RI and jsf-portlet bridge, then in portlet.xml we define this:
    {color:#0000ff}
    <portlet>
    <portlet-name>myPortlet</portlet-name>
    <portlet-class>
    com.sun.faces.portlet.FacesPortlet
    </portlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <name>com.sun.faces.portlet.INIT_VIEW</name>
    <value>/default.jsp</value>
    </init-param>
    </portlet>{color}
    But in faces-config.xml, we define our navigation using navigation-cases, like this:
    {color:#008000}
    <!-- Global Error -->{color}
    {color:#0000ff}
    <navigation-rule>
    <navigation-case>
    <from-outcome>exceptionNavigation</from-outcome>
    <to-view-id>/error.jsp</to-view-id>
    </navigation-case>
    </navigation-rule>{color}
    What I'm trying to do is this:
    I want to programmatically access the navigation rule which references the default view.
    I can fish out the INIT_VIEW value using:
    {color:#0000ff}
    String initView = application.getInitParameter(com.sun.faces.portlet.LifecycleImpl.INIT_VIEW_PARAMETER);{color}
    But this returns me the actual jsp name, ie: {color:#0000ff}/default.jsp{color}
    This means I cannot use faces to navigate to it, like this:
    {color:#0000ff}
    application.getNavigationHandler()
    .handleNavigation( context, null, initView );{color}
    As the navigation model is core to JSF, would it not be better for FacesPortlet to require, in portlet.xml,
    a global navigation-case rather than just a jsp page?
    This would apply to EDIT_VIEW, HELP_VIEW, etc.
    In order to implement the functionality I want, I have to specify my default or INIT_VIEW page twice, once in portlet.xml and a second time in faces-config.xml. What is more, I cannot use this as independent code, because I have to know or prescribe the navigation-case containing the default/initView to the user of the code:
    {color:#0000ff}
    <navigation-case>
    <from-outcome>com.sun.faces.portlet.INIT_VIEW</from-outcome>
    <to-view-id>/default.jsp</to-view-id>
    </navigation-case>{color}
    Regards,
    Stewart
    PS: How do I display code correctly using this editor?

    I have answered my own question. This is how to programmatically access the INIT_VIEW jsp in this situation:
    ExternalContext econtext = context.getExternalContext();
    String initViewId = (String) econtext.getRequestMap().get(
    (String) econtext.getRequestMap().get(
    com.sun.faces.portlet.LifecycleImpl.INIT_PARAMETER ));
    UIViewRoot viewRoot = context.getApplication().getViewHandler().createView(context, initViewId);
    context.setViewRoot(viewRoot);
    context.renderResponse();
    It the viewId IS the jsp name, and navigation can be achieved directly on the jsp name using the ViewHandler class. This is what the NavigationHandler does, under the bonnet (sorry, hood).

  • Customization of new NW04s BEx Analyzer default view?

    Can the default view displayed when a query is executed in the new NW04s (7.0) BEx Analyzer be customized -- perhaps for company branding, disabling/enabling certain functions, etc -- similar to the way the default/standard web templates can be modified?  If so, how would you go about doing that?
    Thanks,
    Rod

    Thanks Heike...
    Based upon the referenced documentation I can believe I understand how to create my own default workbook with/for the NW04s BEx Analyzer and toggle between it, the system default for me, and the SAP default (the 3 buttons on the Global Settings ... Select Default Workbook view).
    However, the document indicates "There is one default workbook per user in a system which can be set by the system administrator".  How/where would an administrator do that?  There is a "global default" flag in the Global Settings view which I don't see discussed in the documentation -- not sure if this factors in, if so how an administrator would go here to make a user-specific setting, etc.
    Any additional help appreciated,
    Rod

  • How to change the default view of published iCal's URL

    I am publishing an iCal for a nonprofit group and link to the calendar from the group's website. The default URL given (in the send publish email option) leads to the week view of the current week. I would prefer the link to take site visitors to the month view of the calendar. If I go to the month view and copy the URL for it, and use that for the link, I have to change the URL each month, because the URL that comes from the month view will only show the month it was at the time I copied the URL -- it will not change with the new month. Does anyone have any idea of how I can change the URL so that it leads to the month view of whatever the current month is?
    I should note that I know how to change the default view in the my browser, but I would rather not have to explain how to do this to all the people viewing the calendar -- just wanting the correct month view to show up when they click the link, without having to change it each month.
    I would be so grateful if anyone has some insight on this!
    Thanks.

    Carlo,
    The fact that this question has been left unanswered for over 2 months seems a little negligent on the part of Apple Support.
    This Forum is unfortunately not Apple Support. According to Apple:
    What is Apple Discussions and how can it help me?
"Apple Discussions is a user-to-user support forum where experts and other Apple product users get together to discuss Apple products. You'll find a wealth of information about your favorite Apple hardware and software products that will help you get the most out of your purchase. You can participate in discussions about various products and topics, find solutions to help you resolve issues, ask questions, get tips and advice, and more.
    If you have a technical question about an Apple product, be sure to check out Apple's support resources first by consulting the application Help menu on your computer and visiting our Support site to view articles and more on our product support pages."
    In direct response to your questions, I would say that (as observed by the OP) anyone who subscribes to a published calendar can make a change to their desired view using the "Preferences" icon which is displayed underneath the mini-month calendars.
    There is no way that I know of to directly or conveniently change the time-range. There may be workarounds, but I could not find a suitable solution for you.
    I would recommend that you provide iCal Feedback, if you are interested in informing Apple of your desires.

  • How to change default view in web plugin?

    Anyone know how to set a default view in the Reader plugin in Firefox and/or IE?  I'm getting sick of having to manually show the task bar and then un-toggle touch mode to get my scroll bar back every time I open a PDF. Thanks!

    Thanks! I turned off Touch mode there (Edit\Preferences\General --> set
    Touch Mode to "Never")
    Then I poked around more and fixed the default view in
    Edit\Preferences\Internet --> unchecked "Display in read mode by default"

  • Changing the default view for Line Items in an Auction.

    Hello All,
    We have a version 5 client who is asking for us to change the default view for line items in an auction.
    Currently, if you have an auction setup, and you go to the Line Items tab, the default view is the "Basic View". The client would like to change the Default from "basic view" to "price view".
    Is there a way to change this default in the system? Can this be configured using query groups? Any information would be helpful.

    Hi wood cloud,
    This is not possible, bcz there is no VLV for that drop down and we cant set it  to the price view.

  • How can i change the default view of recent calls?

    Hi,
    A similar question was asked here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3072545?start=0&tstart=0
    And was not answered.
    The default view of recent calls is missed calls on my current configuration.
    Not a long time ago the default was all calls.
    I didn't change it and don't know how.
    How can i change it back? I really don't see the advantage of the current default, most of the users navigate to all calls every time.
    I use iphone 4 and ios 5.1.1
    Thanks.

    Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
    However, I am on 6.1.4, so perhaps there is a diference in the iOS version. It is also a matter of one tap on the screen, so seriously, is it that big a deal?

  • ICal default view

    How can I change default view back to week view in iCal, as it was before update (as it displays when searching)?

    In case anyone else is looking for a solution to this, I'm come up with a temporary hack. It is a shell script that clears out the most recent calendar view, which results in the Calendar app opening to the current day/month. I've setup a crontab job to run the script every 10 minutes. It's not a perfect fix, but it does the job just fine.
    The script/terminal command:
    /usr/bin/defaults delete com.apple.iCal "CalFirstVisibleDate"
    To install a crontab job which runs the script periodically (every ten minutes in this case), insert the following line into your crontab config (run crontab -e from terminal):
    */10 * * * * /usr/bin/iCalDateReset.sh
    This assumes that you have installed the script as /usr/bin/iCalDateReset.sh

  • How can I change iTunes 11 default view?

    I really DO NOT LIKE th new iTunes, but I guess I'm stuck with it since I was dumb enough to download it.  At least I hope I can change the default view from Albums (totally useless to me) to Songs so I don't have to go through manually changing it each time I open iTunes.  I know it can be done in Windows, but how do I do it in Mac?  BTW, I'm still using Snow Leopard.  Thanks.
    Sass

    First there are no workbooks. All our queries are presented on the portal.
    I made the change in the query itself but the default of 'hierarchy nodes'  remained. It can be changed to 'single values' at runtime via the context menu, but it's annoying our users to constantly do so.
    Second, it makes perfect sense to want to see single values for a characteristic by default and a hierachy optionally. These are customers or sales agents - normally we just want their name- optionally we want to see their organizational structure.This worked fine in 3.x.

  • Can you change the DEFAULT VIEW of a published iCal to MONTH VIEW?

    Can you change the DEFAULT VIEW of a published iCal to MONTH VIEW? I use this for a vacation rental and people never ever ever ever need to see anything but the MONTH VIEW. I hate having to tell them to click MONTH view at the top of the page. Is there a way to force it to always appear in MONTH? Thanks!

    ddotcom,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Unfortunately no, but if they are repeat viewers why not tell them to change their view to "Monthly" using the "Preferences" button on that page?

  • Is there a way to make List View in the Calendar your default view in iOS7?

    I want to be able to have the List View be my default view on my calendar but I can't find a way to do this.  Is there something I am missing?

    No, it's not possible. However, there are lots of apps available in App Store that will let you do that. Week Call, Fantatical, Cal, are juste a couple.
    Best of luck.

  • How can we show a custom column to all libraries in the default view without creating that for all libraries everytime

    Hi,
    Any help?
    Thanks
    srabon

    You can use powershell script below which loops through each libraries and sets view.You can modify the script to user it for single library as well.
    Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -erroraction SilentlyContinue
    $siteURL = "<YOURSITEURL>"
    $site = Get-SPSite($siteURL)
    foreach($web in $site.AllWebs) {
    foreach($list in $web.Lists) {
    if($list.BaseType -eq "DocumentLibrary") {
    // the variables `$web` and `$list` already reference the objects you need
    //$site = New-Object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSite($SiteURL) ;
    //$web = $site.OpenWeb($SiteURL);
    // new instance of the list is necessary to avoid the error "Collection was modified"
    $newList = $web.Lists.item($list.ID);
    $viewfields = New-Object System.Collections.Specialized.StringCollection
    $viewfields.Add("DocIcon")
    $viewfields.Add("LinkFilename")
    $viewfields.Add("_UIVersionString")
    $viewfields.Add("FileSizeDisplay")
    $viewfields.Add("Created")
    $viewfields.Add("Modified")
    $viewfields.Add("Editor")
    [void]$newList.Views.Add(<VIEWNAME>, $viewfields, "", 100, $true, $true)
    $newList.Update();
    // setting the default view
    $view=$newList.Views["<VIEWNAME>"]
    $view.DefaultView = $true
    $view.Update()
    $web.Dispose();
    $site.Dispose();

  • How to configure and set a default view for contents of a data set

    Here is my scenario:
    I have a document library where each item is a "Plan".  "Plan" is of a custom content type that inherits from a Document Set content type but has some additional attributes such as Plan Type.  Inside each Plan, each item is
    a Plan Document which is of custom content type Plan Document which inherits from Document content type but has some additional attributes e.g. Document Status.
    So the hierarchy is:
    All Plans (document library)
         Plan 1  (custom content type that inherits from Document Set but also has a "Plan Type" attribute)
                 Plan Document   (custom content type that inherits from Document but also has a "Document Status" attribute
    When I click on the document library, I want to see all the folders (e.g. Plan 1) where one of the columns will be "Plan Type"
    When I click on an individual Plan (e.g. Plan 1) I want to see the contents of that custom document set.  At this point, since this page shows contents of one document set, I want to see the column "Document Status" but NOT Plan Type since
    Plan Type applies to the document set as a whole, not to an individual item in that document set.
    However, I don't think I have it set up correctly because right now the "Plan Type" column is visible both on the list of all document sets AND on the page that shows the contents of one document set.
    I've found a discussion on this topic here:
    http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/61565/how-can-i-set-a-custom-default-view-for-a-document-set
    where one person said "When you click on a Document Set content type in library settings, one of the options is "Document Set settings". The last option in this dialogue allows you to select a defined view on the library that will be used
    to show the contents of that Document Set."  I don't see that view selection.  The last item on the document set settings page is "Update List and Site Content Types".  The field before that is for customizing the Welcome page.
    However, I don't want to customize the Welcome Page as a whole, I just want to customize the columns that are displayed on the list of content of this document set.
    thanks

    I finally found the answer:
    At the document library level, create a new view to use when displaying the files in the document set
    Go to the document library settings
    Select your custom content type (in my case it was "Plan")
    In the next screen select Document Set settings
    Select your newly created view at the Welcome Page View section
    Press Ok
    Now the default All Documents view will be shown when displaying all the document sets and the newly created view will be displayed when viewing one document set with the files within.
