This is regarding GLOBAL HINTS
I have a situation where all my views are defined in the views schema say "my_view". And all my fact tables are created in another schema say "my_fact". They are all in the same database.
so schema1 = my_view and schema2 = my_fact
There are views v1, v2 and tables t1, t2
Now there arises a situation where I have a select query that retrives records through a view. This query is taking a very long time to execute. I am planning to use GLOBAL HINTS for PARALLEL
What I require is in the Select statement when using the PARALLEL hint should i specify the schema name in the hint
eg
/*+ PARALLEL (my_view.v1.my_fact.t1, 4)*/ or should it be
/*+ PARALLEL (v1.t1,4)*/
Please let me know which one to use.

Off the top of my head, I can't tell you what the correct syntax is. To be able to give you the correct answer I would have to read the manuals and experiment with the syntax until I see the PQ kick in. In other words, RTFM, test and if it still doesn't work, then get back to us.

I am using Oracle 10g R2.
I want to pass hints to a view but they are not being honoured.
CREATE VIEW V AS

Now when I run the below query, then hints are ignored. However if i pass the INDEX hint directly in the above SELECT in the view definition, then hints are honoured.

Actually, the statistics gathering job takes more than 16 hours to complete. Due to which, most of the time, the plan generated are not optimized due to lack of up to date stats.
In that case trying to bypass the actual issue by using HINT does not look like a wise idea to me. Any ways you need to use GLOBAL HINT when using VIEW.

I have a query which is taking 2 minutes to respond. When I see the explain plan, it said for two tables it is doing the full table scan. So I tried forcing to use the index on the inner tables(xcm, detail) of the views(vw_xcm , vw_vw_detail). But it is still not using indexes when the query is running. Please let me know if I am forcing the indexes right.

{code}Sometimes the cost-based optimizer will not take hints because it thinks it knows better. This is a matter of debate here on OTN, where some posters dogmatically assert that hints are instructions that must be followed. My experience is different. I have on rare occasions used perfectly good hints (usually INDEX) that the database simply refused to use.
Someone noted on a post a month or two ago that there may be a glitch with the CBO where it loses indexes when considering execution plans. This was based on a 10053 trace, which will show the different access paths considered during query evaluation.
Ultimately the CBO is deciding you query is more efficient not to use the indexes, even with your hint.
Looking again at your query I'll note that it is very complicated with inline views and more inline views. The CBO has trouble running multiple views efficiently - inline views, views of views, views joined to views - because views have no valid statistics associated with them. The choices the CBO makes based on views use defaults that are all but certain to be incorrect.
In particular, your index use for "id" makes no sense because it is an inline view. you could try using a global hint by pushing the hint inside the view, something like
INDEX(id.table_in_view fvo_ecris_d_industry_dtl_ix1)Unfortunately, the table inside the inline view id itself appears to be a view compliating this effort.
Try using the USE_NL hint instead of INDEX and see if that helps

I have a view C which is based on view B which in turn is created on view A. So, the order is like this.
A -> B -> C

Sdo_filter error while trying to do results paging
This is a continuation of the problem found at: Re: Problem with SDO_FILTER combined with Timestamp and Order By using JDBC
It seems that the index hint fixed most of the problems where the spatial index wasn't getting used, but it fails in the case when I try to do results paging. It seems as if the order by and sdo_filter cause problems. I've simplified the offending query down to the following below.

I've tried adding a global hint such as INDEX (a.TRACK_SEGMENTS TRACK_SEGMENTS_SPATIAL_IDX) and I've also tried joining the spatial index and the primary key "ID" index. But no matter what I've tried, the spatial index is not used and it results in the following error:

As an extra wrinkle, if I take that exact same query and run it from sql developer rather a java class and jdbc, it runs just fine.

Jim1. Oracle optimizer is cost-based, so sometime it may think other non-spatial predicates
are more selective or give more performance.
2. I don't know. Are you sure that it is the same query, and the same-sized table?
Maybe some optimizer parameters are different in the two environments.
3. I think that the real problem is with the order by clause. If the optimizer chooses
a non-spatial index for the order by clause, it may not choose the spatial index.
For other indexes (say a index on START_DATE), you don't have to specify the
NO_INDEX hint.
Another way to avoid specifying the NO_INDEX hint:

How to use Properties Metadata global service using KM API's
Hi,
I have a requirement where I need to get the list of property Namespaces configured in the KM Portal and also all property Names associated with each Namespace.
I was able to see the list of Namespaces in KM portal at "ContentManagement --> Global Services --> Property Metadata --> Namespaces"
Is there any way to access the Property Metadata service and get the list of Namespaces?
I have seen few posts using the IPropertyConfigurationService as below:

Will the IPropertyConfigurationService be useful to fetch all the configured Namespaces? If so, which jar file should I place in my build and class path?
Also, Can I get the property names associated with each namespace?
Any help or hint is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the information on km.shared.service.propertyconfig_api.jar file. I have located the file in the mentioned location and was using it sucessfully.
I was able to use IPropertyConfigurationService and fetch the MetaData properties in the Portal application.
But, when I place the same code on WebDynpro application it doesn't work.
I have placed the km.shared.service.propertyconfig_api.jar in lib folder of the WebDynpro project, but on runtime I get ClassNotFound exceptions of various classes.
I was wondering if there is any configuration that need to be mentioned for accessing KM Portal applications in WebDynpro.
I have found one post related to this which was talking about using IPropertyConfigurationService in WebDynpro, but not directly, using EJB

Non-global zone sending TCP SYN-ACK packet over wrong interface.
After spending many hours looking at ipmon/ethereal logs, I believe I've found
a explanation (a bug?) for the following strange behaviour (Solaris 10u1):
I've got a non-global zone with Apache2 with dedicated IP and bound to interface e1000g2 of a Sun X4200 box. The global zone has a different dedicated IP bound to a different interface e1000g0.
When I point a browser at the web site, the HTML page often comes up immediately, but sometimes it will hang and only load when I press the reload browser button one or multiple times. This is reproducible with different browsers from different networks with or without DNS resolution. It's reproducible with other non-local zones configured alike and running different TCP based services (namely SSH or non-Apache HTTP).
This is what happens in a failing case (Ethereal client dump "dump_failed.txt" and IPF log "att1.txt" lines 1-3 pp): the incoming TCP SYN comes over interface e1000g2 (correct) and is passed by IPF. However, the non-global zone sends the TCP SYN-ACK package back over interface e1000g0, which is wrong and causes IPF to fail to build a correct state entry. Then, afterwards, the response packets from the webserver will be filtered by IPF, since it has no state entry.
In the success case (Ethereal client dump "dump_success.txt" and IPF log "att1.txt" lines 19-21 pp), the incoming TCP SYN is answered correctly by a TCP SYN-ACK both over interface e1000g2. IPF can build a state entry and all subsequent packets from the webserver reach the client.

Does Global Temporary Table help in performance?
I have a large database table that is growing daily. The application I have has a page for the past day data and another for some chosen period of time. Since I'm looking at a very large amount of data for each page (~100k rows) and having charts based on time, I have performance issues. I tried collections for each of these and found out that it is making everything slower and I think because the collection is large and it is not indexed.
Since I don't need the data to be maintained for the session and in fact for each time that I submit a page I need to get the updated data at least for the past day page, I wonder if Global Temporary Table is a good solution for me.
The only reason I want to store the data in a table is to avoid running similar queries for different charts and reports. Is this a valid reason at all?
If this is a good solution, can someone give me a hint on how to do this?
Any help is appreciated.It all depends on how efficient your query is. You can have a billion row table and still get a fraction of a second response if the data is indexed, and the number of data blocks to be visited to retrieve the data is small. It's all about reducing the number of I/Os to find and retrieve your data with the query. Many aspects of the data, stats, table/index structure etc can influence the efficiency of your query. The SQL forum would be a better place to get into the query tuning, but if this test is fast, you can probably focus elsewhere for now. It will resolve your full resultset, and then just do a count of the result (to avoid sending 100k rows back to the client). We are trying to get an idea of how long it takes to resolve your resultset. Using litterals rather than item names in your sql should be fine for this test. Avoid using V() around item names in your SQL.

Trace not showing Global container variable at mapping test time.

I have a scenario file to Proxy scenario. At mapping time I am doing a lookup inside a UDF using JCO connections.
Lookup is taking 2 fields(ex X an dY) as input and coming up with couple of fields in output.
Output fileds I am storing in global container and want to access in further mapping .
I am using trace to see variable values at mapping tijme
Surprisingly :
1. For a particular "X" field in Input, No output fields are coming at trace . On testing it end to end I can see fields getting populated at run time at lookup table . but not getting reflected at mapping trace . what could be the possible cause ?
2. For few input fields like "Z" . It is showing all the output values at Trace. But when I go and place a value in lookup table for the same Input field "Z" . this new value is not coming up at trace Level while rest of teh values are coming up. Can anyone hint where I am going wrong ?
End to end Debugging sahows values populating and being sent across . Where I need to look at ?

By trace do you mean display queue or running the mapping completely in the ESR ?

Could not retrieve Enterprise Global Template - Load balancer issue
Hi,
We have 4 Project Server 2010 servers. The 4 web servers are load balanced by networking team with sticky session configured.
When we try to connect to the Project Server using MPP 2007 SP2, it fails saying 'Could not retrieve Enterprise Global template'. It works perfect when we point to a specific server by specifying the IP address for server name in the 'hosts'
file.
Earlier we observed some errors in the event viewer related to the SharePoint's internal load balancer for which restarted the 'Project Server Application' on each web server and it got fixed.
Now, the only entries that we see related to load balancer are as mentioned below as Information (not errors).

Could the issue be due to network load balancer?
Could the issue be due to Sticky session configuration on the load balancer.?
How can we get to the root cause of the issue?
Which logging category should we set to 'Verbose' that can give us some hint.
Update: We tried to capture the requests through fiddler and observed that when fiddler is running on the client computer then the connection works perfectly fine even through the load balancer. Probably fiddler is reformatting the SOAP
envelop of the web service requests the way it should before sending the request to the server.
If we do not run fiddler and run some other similar tool (like Charles) then it again gives the issue and the request stucks at /PWA/_vti_bin/psi/winproj.asmx
We ran Wireshark on the servers and found the following for that web service call:
[TCP Previous segment not captured] Continuation or non-HTTP traffic.
Please let me know if someone could provide any hint what can be done next.
Regards, Amit GuptaThere are several ways to configure your load balancer. I would suggest that you work with the network engineer, the load balancer vendor and your project administrator to resolve this issue.
Basically you need URL to be resolved correctly. Also, I don't believe PS2007 did a good job handling load balancing, so you may need to bring someone in good with IIS and see they can tweek IIS to manage the cache better.
As I go back and look at your analysis, I think you should probably look at upgrading to Project Server 2013. They made some improvement in load balancing and the management of distributive cache.
I assume you have 4 WFE because you have thousands of project users. Roughly how many you have? Over 1000, over 5000
Have you tried to see if using two load balancing work? How about just one front end. I often see companies scaling SharePoint and Project server to extremes.
