Gnome: every file has mime-type text/plain

since yesterday (i did some updates with pacman but i dont know what packages...) my gnome (nautilus) wants to open ERVERY file with the text editor because it wrongly determines the mime-type text/plain for all files.
what happened?

  • MIME type (TEXT/PLAIN) is UNKNOWN in received MMS message

    This has happened occasionally ever since MMS was enabled. And it only happens when someone sends an email (not a text or MMS from another phone) to <[email protected]>. I'm no expert but it seems to me that TEXT/PLAIN should be pretty easy to "decode"!
    Anyway, anybody else have this issue or know how to fix it?
    -- Thanks

    In all cases that I've been able to investigate it's been TEXT/PLAIN. I haven't been able to investigate all occurrences because this issue is trying the patience of some people on the other end.
    For the specific case illustrated in the screen shot the subject is correct as is the jpeg image. However the body of the message was 66 bytes, it is this part the iPhone did not display correctly. I know this because I was able to get the sender to email to my iPhone ([email protected]) and CC to my email address. Both Thunderbird and Outlook display the 66 bytes of text correctly.
    In every case I've seen the number of bytes in the "un-rendered" TEXT/PLAIN has been less than 300 or so. I doubt it's a movie file.

  • Java.lang.InstantiatiCould not read mime-mappings config file: ./mime.types

    I am about to had enough of this moronic container call OC4J that's compatible to to itself.
    I did a
    1. clean unzip and installation.
    2. setup admin account.
    3. config the autodeploy in server.xml (Who in their right phreakin mind design a container with no hot deploy nowaday).
    4. configure the data source.
    5. test data source using a webapp with one page jsp do a JSF jdbc connection.
    When try and deploy the error-free webapp (tested in tomcat) using both frontend and autodeploy,a cryptic error occur: could not read mime.types.
    I have never see this error before in my life. its in oracle.oc4j.admin.internal.ApplicationDeployer.addApplication
    This error happened after I configure my webapp to do phreakin orion-application.xml disable toplink, orion-webapp xml prefer local class file. If I don't get this resolve within couple days, I'll put my career on the line with full force and request we do not use OC4J anywhere in this group.
    A M$FT .NET project looks very promising and efficient compare this deployment hell they call OC4J

    Thank you Steve for your help. I really do appreciate ppl taking the time to answer questions from n00b like me.
    I tried and disable global.libraries and global.tag.libraries when deploy, and at one point the login page (its Spring 1.2.8 + hibernate 3.1.3 + Myface 1.1.4 + acegi 1.0.1 ) came out, but cannot login and without exceptions, so I was guessing acegi poblem. But the spring and hibernate is working, I can see the conn and other activities. And after a couple tries, cannot even get the login page display now in MyFace, with exceptions:
    include(java.lang.String) in javax.servlet.jsp.PageContext cannot be applied to (java.lang.String,boolean)
    And then after some googling found out there will be code change for this webapp as well.
    - change webapp.listener for double instantiation in OC4J (Code Change)
    - create new class OrionSessionListener implements HttpSessionListener for session invalidation (Code Change) NEW JAVA CLASS
    - acegi j_security_check URL reference change (Code Change, but minor)
    I think the container has great performance, but I just wish they can look more to the compatabilities/common practices issues

  • Unsupported Content-Type: text/plain

    Hi everyone,
    I am trying to invoke an aync Oracle BPEL process from WLI 8.1.6, without worrying about the response / callback. The web service control that is generated shows the operation stub as public void receive (java.lang.String input); which makes sense since I don't want any response. When I invoke BPEL though, I get the following error in WLI:
    <Error> <WLW> <000000> <Failure=com.bea.control.ServiceControlException: SERVICE FAULT:
    Code:javax.xml.soap.SOAPException
    String:Unsupported Content-Type: text/plain
    Detail:
    END SERVICE FAULT [ServiceException]>
    There shouldn't be any response though, so how can I tell WLI to ignore what (doesn't) come back? When I check BPEL, the request is successfully received and the BPEL process completes successfully.
    Thanks,
    Nicholas

    By default, getContent() will return decoded text. But,some mail server will put 8bits instead of 8bit. Javamail will throw exception when encoding is "8bits". In that case, you will have to decode the message by yourself, force using "8bit".
    Part 2 & 3 of the problem - it is not able to find the character set support.

  • Content-Type: text/plain

    Hours after I MMS a picture or video I get the following message. Anyone know what it means?? The message seems to go through but not sure if complete.
    Re:
    Content-Type: text/plain;
    boundary="_CONTENT_64564_PART_BOUNDARY__33243242_"

    Hello,
    >> To build on Rob's reply, I think there are a number of open-source lightweight HTTP proxy/Web servers out there that might already provide the capability of removing the Content-Type header on GET requests or could be straightforwardly modified to do so.
    It could be a solution. Before, I plan to use some cross-platform http client application like curl or wget  only for http GET requests to the Live API server . This should work ok.
    >> You might start with "lighthttpd".
    I'm familiar with this server I currently run it on my home router for the small site which acts both as data agregator and proxy at the same time. So it was my choice as well
    I'm slowly calming and recovering after this trip-up in API and soon will start looking for some workarounds
    Thanks for suggestions!

  • Running mac OS 10.5.8, Using Mail 3.5, Text encoding set to Automatic. messages arrive, but the message is 200  lines of alphanumerics. Top says Content-Type: text/plain;      charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64.

    I use Mail 3.6 and some incoming email messages start with

    What causes this problem, how can I fix it?
    Text encoding is set to Automatic, and  I'm not using any fancy fonts.  Senders are usually

  • How to restrict uploading files by mime type?

    Hi,
    I have been searching the forum (and Google) looking for tips on how to ensure users can only upload files of specific formats (Word, PDF, etc) for specific document types as defined within the application (e.g. Curriculum Vitae (Word), Copy of Transcripts (PDF)).
    While I have used this research to start work on a server-side solution, I would like to know if there is an apex-friendly way to "validate" a file-browse item based on mime-type.
    Has anyone else had to address this?
    Ted

    Hi,
    I would like to know if there is an apex-friendly way to "validate" a file-browse item based on mime-typeHow about, you create a check constraint on your MIMETYPE column. something similar to this:
    alter table "MY_TABLE" add constraint
    "MY_TABLE_CON" check ( "MIMETYPE" = 'application/pdf' or "MIMETYPE" = ......)Or you can use this plugin, provided using browsers supporting HTML 5:
    http://www.theapexfreelancer.com/apex/f?p=APEXFREELANCER:FILE_UPLOAD:0
    For friendly,
    Please check error handling :

  • MIME type text/xml shown as inline in email applications

    Hi, I am currently using MimeBodyPart object to set the text for the email, using the setDataHandler() method. The problem is when i use the MIME content as text/plain or text/html, the text is showing inline in my email application.
    However problem arises when i use the text/xml MIME content type, the text is not shown as inline, it is set as an attachment. I want to know if at all text/xml can be shown as inline text in an email application or will it be always appear as an attachment.

    Hi Saurab,
    Currently im also facing the same issue as urs. Im trying to send a disclaimer in the email which contains some special characters such as / : ;
    The client is also using MS outlook to read the mails. They are receiving the disclaimer as an attachment instead of as plain text.Below is the format of my email:
    1. Body of the mail
    2. Actual report of the client sent as an attachment
    3. disclaimer
    In the forum(http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5323022) it was mentioned that if the attachment is sandwitched with test, then the text following the attachment will also be sent as an attachment. Hence i just swapped the steps 2 and 3 and had the report as a final one.but still the client receives the disclaimer as an attachment. Your help will be appreciated.

  • Every file has staff and everyone "read only" privileges

    Just upgraded to SL with a clean install. Copied over all my documents. Now it seems like every single file has staff and everyone read only privileges (in addition to me having read & write).
    How can this be? Under System Preferences, Sharing, I have absolutely nothing checked.
    Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

    these are standard permissions in both leopard and snow leopard. any new files you create in your home directory will have those permissions.

    this has nothing to do with sharing.

    Lots of thanks paulcw !!!<br>
    <br>
    I finaly solved the problem.<br>
    <br>
    I had to delete the url-pattrern / and to add the mapping for the image directory, also in the code i used a full path to the image.<br>
    <br>
    thus the relevant parts in the web.xml look now like this:<br>
    <br>
    <br>
    <servlet-mapping><br>
    <servlet-name>ImageServlet</servlet-name><br>
    <url-pattern>/imageservlet</url-pattern><br>
    </servlet-mapping><br>
    <br>
    <servlet-mapping><br>
    <servlet-name>ImageServlet</servlet-name><br>
    <url-pattern>/images</url-pattern><br>
    </servlet-mapping><br>
    <br>
    <br>
    <br>
    <br>
    and the relevant code part lke this:<br>
    <br>
    out.println("<img src=\"" + request.getContextPath() + "/images/image.png\" alt=\"image\" width=200 height=100></img>");<br>
    <br>
    with these settings it works just fine :-)<br>
    <br>
    <br>
    Is there any way to keep the url-pattern / to avoid calling the servlet using this (in my opinion) too long url<br>
    <br>
    http://host:port/imageservlet/imageservlet ???<br>
    <br>
    thanks.<br>
    <br>

  • JSF1091: No mime type could be found for file xyz.png.

    Hi all,
    I get error logs in weblogic server like :
    <ExternalContextImpl> <getMimeType> JSF1091: No mime type could be found for file xyz.png. To resolve this, add a mime-type mapping to the applications web.xml.
    I get this for all the image files ... I found something :
    http://www.java2s.com/Code/JavaAPI/javax.servlet.http/webxmlmimemapping.htm
    <mime-mapping>
            <extension>java</extension>
            <mime-type>text/plain</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    What should I add (mime-type) for png files ?
    Thanks..

    You use 'image/png' for this. Refer to MIME Types - Complete List » HTML Elements| Learn HTML | Tags | Tutorials | HTML Cheat Sheet for more info.

  • How to specify MIME type handlers in Safari?

    In the old days, it was possible to specify the MIME type handler in web browsers like Netscape, etc. I can't seem to find this functionality in Safari. Is it possible to do this?
    Specific intended use case: I use a website that includes document attachments that are of MIME type message/rfc822. They're just the text source of email messages (with a .eml extension). When I click on a link to one of these attachments, Safari wants to download it to a file, warns me that a ".eml" file might be dangerous (that's another thing I'd like to fix), and so forth. It's just a text file. I'd like to make Safari just display the text, as if it were of MIME type text/plain.
    Any hints or is not not possible?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Maybe this is something that RCDefaultApp could do?

  • How To Get FileType and MIME Type from a File

    Hi,
    I am using following ways to get FileType and MIME Type.
    I am able to get file type, but I am getting MIME Type as */*
    Can any one please let me know how to get MIME Type, but it should not be time consuming process.
    For File Type I am using following Code:
    private String getFileData(InputStream inStream) {
    fileName = C:\temp\temp.tiff
    String filePath = Util.createTempFile(fileName);
    RandomAccessFile raf = new RandomAccessFile(filePath, "rw");
    while (inStream.available() > 0) {
         byte[] buf = new byte[inStream.available()];
         inStream.read(buf);
         raf.write(buf);
    inStream.close();
    raf.close();
    File file = new File(filePath);
    JFileChooser chooser = new JFileChooser();
    String fileType = chooser.getTypeDescription(file);
    file.delete();
    //MIME Type I am getting from
    DataHandler data = new DataHandler(new DocumentSource(inStream));
    data.getContentType();
    data.getContentType() is not working well in all cases.
    Can any one help me on this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ram.

    data.getContentType() is not working well in all cases.That's because there's no way to get MIME type of all files on all filesystems.

  • Get Uploaded File Mime Type and Client Filename

    Anyone know how to recover an uploaded file MIME type and
    client file name?
    I'm writing my own cfx tag to process file uploads and pretty
    much have it figured out except to determine the name of the client
    file and mime type. The formfield file variable value contains the
    path/filename to the CF temp directory, but I need the MIME type,
    filename, etc. that is contained int he HTTP Header
    (e.g. Content-Disposition: form-data; name="Image";
    filename="C:\test.JPG"
    Content-Type: image/pjpeg
    [empty line])
    I'm using the getHttpRequestData() functiont, but it only
    gives me the content-type multipart/form-data, leaving out the Mime
    type and Content-Disposition (which contains the client file name).

    Hi Daniel,
    do you use EPG, mod_plsql or APEX Listener? Have you changed the connection mechanism after upgrading to 4.2.1?
    If you use the APEX Listener, which version do you use? Which browser and version do you use to upload the file? Does it reproduce with other browsers as well?

  • Web Applications and MIME Types

    Hi,
    I am using WL Server 5.1, Service Pack 4 with the Sun JDK 1.3 on RedHat
    Linux 6.2. I woiuld like to deploy my application as a web application. I
    have created the web.xml file, etc. as per teh specification, and things
    work as expected for the most part: I can server up plain HTML, JSPs, etc.
    without a problem. I do have one major problem however: I cannot seem to
    serve up GIFs, PDFs, etc. I believe I have correctly specified the MIME
    mappings in my web.xml file. Is there something I am missing here? I'd
    appreciate any help in this regard. I am attaching my web.xml file for those
    who'd like to look at it.
    TIA,

    [web.xml]

    Bjorn,
    I am re-attaching the web.xml file. I think I do have the necessary
    specifications in it. Just to be safe, I have put all the mime mappings in
    the weblogic.properties file as well, still to no avail. Interestingly
    enough, things work perfectly well when I deploy it the default weblogic
    way.
    Thanks,
    Prashanth

    ÿþ<Prashahth: your attachment seems to have disappeared somewhere.
    For some reason, my web applications didn't know how to serve plain
    HTML, so I added
    <mime-mapping>
    <extension>html</extension>
    <mime-type>text/html</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    to my web.xml, and it worked.
    I find this behaviour quite strange, since the manual says that the
    mappings defined in weblogic.properties should propagate to web
    applications.
