GNOME / Openbox - Can I "force" window border on new GTK3+ programs?

How do I get the window borders (including close/max/minimize buttons) of openbox in new gnome 3.10 applications, who actualy use "Client Side Decorations" like nautilus???

You should be able to enable decorations by putting this in your rc.xml
<applications>
<application class="Nautilus">
<decor>yes</decor>
</application>
</applications>
This has the same effect as (un)decorate action from window client menu that comes up by default when you right click titlebar, which doesn't have any effect either.

  • Can you put windows on a new macbook pro

can you  put windows on a new macbook pro ? yes or no, which notebook can i put windows on if not the macbook pro?

WIndows 7 is the only Windows OS supported by the new Macs.
You usually use Boot Camp Assistant to partition the drive and install the Windows product on the Mac.
This creates a system where you boot into Mac OSX OR Windows.
    see more at http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
There are programs such as Parallels or VMWare Fusion that can create a Virtual Machine within Mac OSX - giving you access to both Operating Systems at once. You may get slight performance issues as you would be essentially running two Operating Systems at once.

  • Can't see Windows PC on new iMac but Windows PC can see iMac

My brand new iMac is up and running except I can not see my Dell Laptop running Windows. The strange thing is that my Dell Laptop can see the iMac just fine and I can access shared folders without any problems. My call to Apple support didn't leave me with a resolution so I figured the forums could provide better help. I can ping my laptop but nothing shows up in my network or in "shared". The closest we came was to go to a browser window and type in smb://(computer name of laptop). This provided only a temporary solution because it un-mounts after restarts, etc and then I have to do it all over again.

Well, I have narrowed the issue down to Snow Leopard 10.6.2. Leopard install works just fine. I tried a different router going to a D-Link 655 from a Linksys and the result is the same. The Mac can not see my Windows computers under the network but my Windows PCs can see and access the Mac just fine. I can ping my Windows machines and I can create a temporary mount using the smb command but that is a band-aid to the problem. The odd issue is that I can see them temporarily if I delete my network connection and then re-establish it. I guess the Google searches are correct...Snow Leopard did break SMB support. Apple...can you please fix this. The world does not just run on Mac.

  • How can I install Windows on my new Mac?

This question sounds simple, but I am going nuts. I got this MacBook Pro recently, and I need Windows (to run ArcGIS 10). I know it can be done, and in fact is very common. However, I'm stuck.
    Here are the problems:
    - Only Windows 8.1 is currently available from Microsoft
    - According to Apple, 8.1 cannot be installed on a Mac
    - My download from Microsoft included only a small .exe file, not an ISO
    - I don't have a CD drive. Just an 8 gigabyte USB thumb drive.
    - I don't care what version of Windows I get. If there's some way to get 7, that's fine.
So what do I do? How do I buy a copy of Windows that will work? How do I download it so that Boot Camp can use it? Hasn't this been done millions of times? I was on the phone with Apple for over an hour, and with Microsoft three times. No one can help. Can you?
    Thanks!

your best bet is to download virtualbox and install it that way
though if it's an exe it's not a full version but and upgrade so you need to install a full version in the
    virtualbox first

  • Can't install windows 8 on new macbook pro retina display.

I spent my afternoon trying to install Windows 8 Pro on my new Macbook Pro with retina display. I get fairly deep into the installation process using bootcamp when I get a windows message that says something to the effect that windows can't be installed because the hard drive is not formatted in NTSF format. And that is the end of the line.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It's normal. Boot Camp Assistant formats the Boot Camp volume in FAT32 because in the past it supported Windows XP and it could use FAT32. This changed with Windows Vista.
The only thing you have to do is to choose the BOOTCAMP partition in this step, and select "Drive options (advanced)". Then, press "Format" and it will be formatted into NTFS, so press Next and the installation will start.

  • Can't start Windows Media Player-Newbe

I am not a computer person.  Just bought a T61 and installed Kaspersky internet security.  Now trying to get things up and running.  When I click on Windows Media Player it flickers and does nothing.  I right click and click "run as" and get a multiple choice window that either asks me to uncheck a box and it allows the program to open that one time, or attempt to log in as administrator.  I can get into the program by unchecking the upper box and allow current user, but when I close the program I am back in the same boat as before, it won't open.  If I try to log in as administrator using my password, I am rejected.  I have verified my password, but no luck.  Lots of security on this system.  By the way, I am running XP Pro.......not vista.  I don't know if I am failing to set up the player or authorize some feature initially, or falling prey to the Thinkvantage security set up, or running into Kaspersky.  I notice Kaspersky gives me all sorts of warnings in general.  Help...   [email protected]

    Hello,
I am not particularly familiar with Kaspersky Internet Security, but one thing that is typical with antimalware software is that when changing products, the old product has to be uninstalled completely before installing the new one.  In some cases, it is also necessary to reset the TCP stack before installing new antimalware software as well.
Most ThinkPads I see have Symantec Norton Anti Virus pre-installed on them, so you will probably want to take the following steps to revert back to a "clean" state so you can load Kaspersky Internet Security:
Download a copy of the Symantec Norton Removal Tool from http://www.symantec.com/symnrt and save it to a location you will remember, such as the Desktop.
Save or print out a copy of Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 299357, "How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP"
Uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security from your computer.  Reboot if prompted to do so.
Run the Symantec Norton Removal Tool you downloaded.
Follow the instructions in the Microsoft knowledge base article to reset the TCP stack [i.e., Open a Command Prompt (filename: CMD.EXE) and type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" and reboot once more].
    Reinstall Kaspersky Internet Security.
If that does not work, then you might want to contact Kaspersky's technical support department and see what steps they recommend.

  • Can't Unpartition windows disk.  New user please help!

    Hi there,
I am a new user to MAC. Everything was working just fine until I decided to partition my drive using bootcamp for Windows XP. The disk was a little scratchy but I thought I would try any ways. If it worked great if not whatever. Well Mac partitioned the drives nicely to 32GB. However when I tried to install my Windows XP disk with SP2 it failed. So I said whatever. I went to eject the disk and it wouldn't eject. So I turned off the computer and turned it back on then ejected the disk again which worked.
The only problem is I had a Volume called BootCamp and a Volume called Disk0S1. I tried to use BootCamp to delete the partitions and it told me; "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again".
I wasn't to sure what that means however I went to Disc Utilitiy, Erase, highlighed Bootcamp(which is now called Disk0S3 I don't know why) and went to security option, Zero Out Data came back and hit Erase. The Volume Format says MS-DOS(FAT) and the Name says Disk0S3.
So off it goes and the disk is erased, unmounted and then mounted and put right back. I am assuming I am doing something wrong. Do I need to change the Volume Format to MAC OS EXTENDED (JOURNALED)? If so do I change the name? If so to what, Macintosh HD?
Everyone at work says mac ***** I don't wan them to be right so can someone please help me. Also if I can't get back to one partition do I just reboot the mac with the disk that was provided? Of course I would loose all my info but that is okay I only got this mac on December 25.

Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone of your current installation, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original.
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/backuprecovery.html
Then, while booted into the backup/clone, launch Disk Utility, and erase and reformat your internal HD. That will preclude having to start from scratch. Once you get your machine running as you want it, see these:

  • Can i install Windows XP on new iMac 2013 to use quickbooks

I have just bought a new iMac 2013  and need to use my Windows Quickbooks programme for our small business. I understand that I can use Bootcamp to  install my Windows XP and then Quickbooks 2010/11.
Is it true that the new iMac  Bootcamp no longer supports Windows XP?  I realistically only use the Quickbooks every 3 months. What is my best solution to be able to use Quickbooks on my new iMac

No. Boot Camp only supports Windows 7 or Windows 8. If you want to use XP, then you will need to use virtualization software such as:
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         2. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         3. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         4. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Can't boot windows after creating new MS-DOS (FAT) partition

I created a new MS-DOS (FAT) partition on Yosemite, and now I am unable to access my windows bootcamp partition.
    - I can attempt to boot into windows from Yosemite however after a long while, I am prompted with "no bootable device".
    - The option to boot windows from the startup manager is no longer visible.

It still shows the bootcamp partition with windows.
EDIT: Creating the new FAT partition did seem to create another partition which is visible when looking at the partition layout; the other partition is 1.04gb; format "Free Space". Apparently that's from bootcamp - hadn't noticed before.
I took some screens to show what I mean ("WINDOWS EXT" is the new partition I created):

  • Can't instal Windows 7 to new hard drive

    Hello everyone,
I was looking for solution for a while, but cant find it, so I really hope you'll help me here !
First of all, I 've been using my pc until I received the S.M.A.R.T. warning about possible hard drive failure soon, and one morning PC didnt start - one of the hard drives was dead (in my hp model there are two hard drives). After finding out which one was it ( I tried taking one hard drive out, leaving the other and vice versa) I bought a new 500 GB hard drive. Aparently the damaged hard drive was the one with operating system, because of startup message which told me that operating system not found. Nothing fancy, just instal windows like I always did, or so I thought ..
Got my USB flash drive with Windows 7 64 bit, plug it in, the usual windows instal guide loads up.  I choose my language , keyboard input etc . At the point where I have to choose "where do I want to instal my windows" I see two hard drives: 1) disk 0 Partition 1 (my old original  232 GB stock drive) and 2) disk 1 Partition 1 (new recently purchased 500GB drive).
So ofcourse, since I replaced old hard drive with the new one I just bought, put it in the same slot, naturaly I chose my location for windows - new hard disk 1 Partition 1. When I highlighted it, a yellow mark apeared at the botom which said "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu".
Ok, so I tried to continue anyway, I pressed next and windows began to instal, took about 10 - 15 mins. Everythings normal until first restart part before completing instalation. PC restarted and .. Windows instalation setup started once more from the begining. So I thought , ok I ll try to instal to the old hard drive disk 0 Partition 1 ( this time there was no yellow warning mark). So instalation began again , restarted , and ... Once more instalation setup starting from begining !
I am really lost here, I tried replacing hard drives places whith each other, or leaving just one of them, every time windows starts instaling from begining ! Allthough, everytime there are less and less disk space, which means it actualy is instaling.
So any thoughts where to start ?
I would be so greatful for your help,
    And see ya

It is my understand that one of your two hard drives failed.  You have replaced the failed drive and are having a difficulty installing Windows 7 from a USB stick.
    I have some questions.
What is your exact model of n DV9700 notebook?
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Is this a retail version of Windows 7?
Were your drives setup in a RAID configuration or  just  two individual drives, one being the boot drive  with Windows.
You could try this,  I am not sure if it will work.
Remove the 232 GB drive completely from your system.
Boot to your Windows 7, USB stick and let Windows format the drive before it installing Windows.
If this completes successfully, make sure the boot order is set to boot to that drive and test it.
If you are then able to boot into windows,  shut down the notebook and reinstall the secondary drive.
    Good Luck!

  • Can't add Window setting to new topic

I am working on a WinHelp project created long ago (in version 6 or earlier--the first time through the numbers), and I'm now using version 8 (in the newer numbers) on Windows 7.
I created a new topic and on the Advanced tab, I selected a Window (the project has different windows for procedures, field descriptions, etc.). When I generated the help file, the topic does not have the window colors, but the content is there.
I also tried manually creating the > footnote by copying and pasting from another topic (the old topics display the colors, even those without a Window selected on the tab).
I will greatly appreciate any help with this.
    Thanks,
    Walt

    Hi Gregory,
Looks like the site is still in trial (e-mail accounts/domains are not available in trial mode). You need to take 2 steps:
    - Upgrade the site (from admin, top left corner, go to your partner portal, access the clients section, select your site, then access "Upgrade site" from the details panel on the right side of the page) by  choosing a plan and entering your billing information
    - Purchase a domain (be sure to link it to our own DNS: ns1.worldsecuresystems.com (192.150.2.143) - primary DNS server & ns2.worldsecuresystems.com (192.150.8.143) - secondary DNS server) then go to Admin > Site Settings > Site Domains > and add that domain.
You'll now be able to go to Site Settings > E-mail Accounts and set them up

  • Can I use Windows Solitaire on new iMac?

I recently switched from a PC to an iMac and I miss the mindless hours I used to spend playing Solitaire. I've downloaded a Widget Solitaire from the Apple site, but it's kind of anemic compared to my old Windows version. There are many different Solitaire files here to be downloaded, but I really hate to junk up my new machine installing multiple games just to find the perfect Windows clone. Aside from downloading and trying different versions, does anyone know of one that is comparable to the Windows standard version (like...identical)? Or, better yet, would it hurt my Mac to drag and copy the old Windows sol.exe file I've saved on my external drive over to the Mac? Is that file compatible with a Mac?
Sorry if this is a stupid question - I just don't want to do anything that will mess up my beautiful new Mac.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sunny

You might want to try Allgood Solitaire, I have been using it for years as my replacement for Windows Solitaire & Free Cell, not to mention Spider and a number of other Solitaire games. Klondike with 1 or 3 cards is pretty much what you're looking for as a replacement.
As was said in the previous post you would need to run Windows on your Mac via 1 of the 3 methods mentioned. If Solitaire is your only missing Windows need going that route would be way overkill.
    Good Luck.

Boot Camp does not support Windows 2000 - it might work sort off, might not perform well if at all.
You can run Windows 2000 in a virtual machine using something like Parallels for Mac, or VMware Fusion.
To install Windows 2000 in a virtual machine you will need the original Windows 2000 Install Media with a useable Product Key.
