Godaddy + FTP hosting

Okay this is going to be a stupidly easy question for someone to answer, but I have my domain through godaddy and am now trying to set up my iweb sited to be hosted via ftp. Where on godaddy would I find the information that I need to host my site. Again I know this is stupidly easy, but I am not tech savvy when it comes to this kind of stuff.

  • Upload iWeb website to GoDaddy FTP hosting server

I purchased a domain (huaichuanrui.co.uk) and web hosting from GoDaddy. I created a website in iWeb '09 (version 3) and clicked on the site name in the left hand sidebar. I filled in all the FTP server information - in the server address box, I've tried ftp.huaichuanrui.co.uk, huaichuanrui.co.uk, http://huaichuanrui.co.uk, the IP address, ftp://huaichuanrui.co.uk, everything. I've typed the username and password for my hosting account correctly. I left the Directory/Path field empty like most people recommend, but I've also tried it with the folder location on my Mac (/Huaichuan_Rui), /Huaichuan_Rui/, all sorts. I left Protocol as FTP and Port as 21. Still, no luck. Testing keeps failing.
I've also tried uploading the site folder to the GoDaddy hosting control panel thing where it says "Upload Files". It all uploaded, but still nothing. The homepage preview is shown as "pageok". Now when I visit my site, it says "Coming Soon - Future home of something quite cool".
No luck at all in publishing my iWeb website to GoDaddy's FTP hosting server.
Anyone have any ideas how to resolve this issue? Thank you.

  • Cannot get "Upload to FTP Host" to work.

I have been searching this problem literally all night long, have tried so many combinations of things that now I think there is so much mess uploaded to my site with accidentally creating folder after folder after folder that I no longer have any idea what to do.
I purchased a domain on GoDaddy last year, and have just signed up for DreamHost for hosting. The domain is still registered to GoDaddy, and this is one potential cause of the issue because I'm not sure that I entered the primary, secondary, tertiary name server information from DreamHost in the correct spot with GoDaddy.
However, for a moment there when I went to my domain, (amandaasher.com), there was a placeholder there from DreamHost so that has to be a good sign.
I suppose my first question would have to be how the heck do I clear all of the B.S. that I have uploaded to my host over the last 12 hours of sitting here trying to figure it out? I went in using FileZilla and tried to delete everything, but there was one folder that wouldn't delete and I feel like I need to just start over at this point.
Second question is how to actually use this "Upload to FTP Host."
And please, if someone directs me to this article:
Adobe Muse Help | Uploading an Adobe Muse Site to a third-party hosting service
I will scream. I've come back to that thing like 294832 times over the last 12 hours and it has. not. helped.
The first page goes smoothly. I'm able to connect just fine, and the credentials are checking out.
The second page is where sh** hits the fan. Site URL seems obvious enough, but I have no idea what to enter in the "Folder on Server" box.
To be clear, in the time I've been trying to figure this out, I have tried many many things in both of these boxes. I have tried in the Site URL box, amandaasher.com with and without www.
And for the Folder on Server. At first I took this quote from the above mentioned article literally "Folder is the web directory as provided by the hosting provider. This field may be pre-filled; if it does not match the information from your hosting provider, make sure to update it."
Well, it wasn't pre-filled for me. So I looked on my hosting provider's site and saw this:
It literally says "web directory", and looks folder-ish, so I entered that in. However, I'm unclear as to whether they intend for me to substitute "username" for my actual username, or to leave the word username?? So I tried it both ways. I also tried both the top "web directory" (with both my username and the word username) and the "logs directory" (still no idea what I'm doing)
None of these worked, so I tried some of the examples I was able to find online. It seemed the most common thing people were using was "public_html", but also "www" and "httpdocs"
I tried all of these things in combination with all of these other things.
As you can imagine, I was prompted many many times by Adobe Muse that these folders did not exist, so did I want to create them? I said yes. There were many many folders by the time I was done and still nothing showed up on my webpage.
All of these exported completely but they did give me a warning at the end that there was an "unexpected html response to the php query" or something like that (I didn't think to get a screen shot of that, and I'm no longer receiving that message). What does this mean and how do I fix it?
I'm not getting that error any longer, but now (ever since I went in with FileZilla and tried to delete a bunch of stuff) I get stuck in a loop when I try to submit the Upload to FTP Host form, it says:
Seriously, I really think I messed up. I really just want to start over, but I need to know how to do it correctly, obviously. How do I give myself a blank slate to work with??
Sorry, I'm completely new at this and am freaking out.

Ended up figuring it out but not sure how to delete this.
For anyone else with this issue, the correct Folder on Server for DreamHost was my URL without www and with a / after:  amandaasher.com/
    Problem solved.

  • IWeb and GoDaddy FTP

Ok so I have an iWeb site already that I use with MobileMe. Now I want to add another site using godaddy ftp. So I follow the instructions that godaddy gives enter my username, password, etc and test the connection. It fails every time. I really do not know why it is not working or what is wrong. Should I call godaddy? or what.
    Thanks,
    Jordan

Firstly, do you have a hosting account set up with Godaddy? If not, then it won't work.
Also, iWeb 09 built ftp is notorious for not being that reliable. I would suggest that you download either Cyberduck or Transmit for free and use either of these to upload your other site.
You also should have been given a username and password when you set up your hosting account with Godaddy - if nothing works then you need to contract them, but try Cyberduck or Transmit first.

  • Updated to Muse CC 2014 and lost all my "Upload to FTP Host" settings. What gives?

Is there a way to preserve the "Upload to FTP Host" settings as we upgrade from version to version? This is a problem from a workflow [and patience!] perspective.

I have the same issue and same error in Muse 2014.2. I can ftp with FileZilla to the same account and I have tried just about every possible ftp setting. I host at GoDaddy. I really need to get this working so that I can use in browser editing with my client. Please help.
I continually get the error, "Could not sign you in..." despite the login being valid. If you keep hitting resume it will eventually, after many clicks, succeed.
I just got off the phone with GoDaddy. They insist that the issue is with Muse after confirming that ftp works fine with other clients, which it does. Their only suggestion was to perhaps adjust a timeout in Muse.
The old hotfix that is now a dead link, would that be helpful?
I'm stuck. My client wants in browser editing, so I need ftp in Muse for that to work. GoDaddy has been a good hosting provider despite their indifference in this case. I am trying to escalate this within GoDaddy, but I won't hold my breath. Honestly, it has to be something specific to Muse or the other ftp clients wouldn't work. I can use FileZilla or ForkLift, but that isn't a solution that gets me in browser editing. It just points the problem at Muse.
    Any ideas?

  • Problem with using new Upload to FTP Host feature...

I tried using the "Upload to FTP Host" feature to upload to GoDaddy.com. It worked fine the first time but now I get this message:
    Error:
Error creating folder //images. Click Resume to try again. If this problem persists, try again later.
I tried a few times and even waited two days but I am still getting the same message. So I tried to "Export as HTML" liked I used to do and now for some reason it will not create a CSS or Scripts folder. Only an images folder.
Also, the first time the "Upload to FTP Host" worked for some reason not all the images were there and the transition box I have is not fading smoothly from one image to the next.
    Please help!!!
    Thanks,
    Melissa

The issue looks like it might be related to a known issue with our FTP upload client. We currently incorrectly assume the server is configured to use / as the root direcotry. We have a fix for the issue, that will be released in an upcoming update (likely to be sooner rather than later). The workaround for it is actually pretty simple though. If you login to your FTP server, you should be able to see what directory you are at, and you can use the full path there to upload successfully.
For example, if you login using a different FTP client, you might see something like /home/users/myuser/ in the address bar. In Muse, in the directory location, if you place /home/users/myuser you will upload to the correct directory. If you want to upload to a specific directory, simply add that to the end of the directory path.
If you are unable to upload after following the above steps, as Abhishek says, it is likely a permissions error. Try exporting first and using a third party client to upload it and let us know if you are able to do so successfully from there.

  • Updates won't upload to FTP host

    Hi,
I have a live website already and just want to add some updates to it, but every time I go to upload to ftp host, it goes through the process of uploading everything (the box with the blue bar) but when the website loads after the upload is finished, my updates don't show - the website is exactly as it was previously, without the new information.
What am I doing wrong and what do I need to do to get the new information to upload?
The domain is hosted by godaddy.com if that helps.
Thanks in advance for your help!

This generally indicates the upload is to the incorrect location on the server or the files were modified using an external tool and now the built-in FTP upload is being used and it's unaware of those changes.
Are you using the built-in File > Upload to FTP Host... feature within Muse? If so, and if you're using one of the most common low cost plans from GoDaddy, then the "Host directory" should be "public_html" if it isn't, then the files will be uploaded to the wrong location on the server.
If you've ever used a tool other than the built-in upload feature to alter what files are on the server, and you're now attempting to use the built-in upload, you need to set "Upload: All Files" in order for Muse to fully upload your site. After that's been done once, Muse will revert to only uploaded altered files.

  • Can't upload to FTP Host - 'Folder on server does not exist'

I haven't tried updating my site for about a month now. I went onto Muse last night and while uploading to the FTP Host, it kept freezing at about 66% while handling the image files.
This was odd because I'd never had this problem before, but I noticed there was an update, so I decided to get Muse 2014.2, as maybe this could fix my problem.
I made the same changes to my site and went to upload to FTP Host. After convincing Muse my details were correct (kept being told I had been timed out and my username or password was wrong) I was finally connected to the FTP server. However, my 'Folder on Server' (httpdocs) doesn't seem to exist according to Muse.
I spoke to GoDaddy's support team for over an hour as we tried variations on the httpdocs folder and we had no idea why Muse wasn't accepting this (they also checked the file exists). They tried Filezilla and that was fine, so it's obviously a problem with Muse. I asked if I should just click on the option to create the httpdocs folder, but GoDaddy advised against it.
I tried contacting the Adobe Customer Care chat thing, but I don't even know what's happening with that ("chat is unavailable . . . we'll be with you shortly" . . . eh?)
If anyone has a solution to either my problem on the old Muse or this new problem with Muse 2014.2 (ideally this one) then that would be great.
Also, I'm only using Muse because it cuts out all the complex stuff, so go easy on me when explaining anything that isn't "you just need to click this"

UPDATE: I uninstalled both versions of Muse and re-installed the 2014.2 version to see if that would work, but it still doesn't think the httpdocs file exists.
(As a result of uninstalling the old Muse, my problem regarding the freezing at 66% is now irrelevant. Just need help with Muse not accepting the httpdocs folder)

    Hi,
Are you uploading the site to Third party provider, like GoDaddy? If Yes, then you will get this information from your host.

  • Uploading to FTP Host, getting stuck on Creating CSS Folder

    Please help

The problem isn't connecting to the FTP host, it registers the source etc.
The problem is that when it is creating the CSS Folder during the upload
time it doesn't go past 89 percent. Muse is still responsive however. I've
left it render 4 days in a row for the entire day and it stays at 89% I
attached a screenshot of what I'm talking about. Please help, I did call
godaddy and they said it wouldn't be the preference problem since I am
already able to connect to the FTP Host through the settings.
Please get back to me soon

  • Trouble uploading a Muse site to FTP Host

Whenever I try to upload my website made with Adobe Muse to an FTP host I always get the error message:
Connection to PHP file failed. Unable to check if this web server supports PHP needed by Muse forms. Be sure the domain name entered in the FTP upload dialog is correct.
I'm using Godaddy/Cpanel to launch my website but I can't figure out how to launch it. I already bought/have the domain name and I already went through business catalyst. When I type in the URL for the website it just brings me to an error page with a link to my cpanel log in. Do you think this is something wrong with Cpanel because that is what I'm using to launch the site? Or is Cpanel not compatible with Muse?
    Any information helps
    Thanks

The message suggests that you are trying to use the web forms widget in Adobe Muse and it seems that your hosting service provider does not support PHP or PHP mail service.
Please refer to the document : http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3581 and contact your hosting service provider regarding this.

  • Is iWeb MobleMe or FTP Hosting Faster?

I have a site created with iWeb... I use MobileMe to host the site... I have received complaints that it is slow to load... Would FTP hosting on GoDaddy lets say, load the site faster when viewed?

Uploading to a commercial hosting service will increase download speed and also give you wider bandwidth and better reliability. However, the biggest improvement will come from optimizing your files before upload.....

  • GoDaddy FTP access

    Hi,
I am new to webhosting and servers. My friend and I just bought a domain through GoDaddy with hosting and storage. When he connects to the FTP site through windows, he authenticates and then has access as if it were a folder. My friend can then drag and drop files and web code easily.
I am attempting to do the same thing on my Mac. Currently, in the finder I go to "connect to server" and then type in "ftp://url.com" which then successfully prompts me for a username and password. However, once connected, I can only see the folder as read only. When I try to add a file through drag & drop or try to delete a file I get error saying it cannot be modified...
Am I doing something wrong, any ideas, is this a known issue?
Thank you for any and all help,
    TM

I suppose that both operating systems have some minor differences in the native network programs they offer. FTP is probably a minus on the Mac side. The plus side for Mac's is Bonjour, so I just went and got an FTP program when I needed one. Windows users can download Bonjour if they want to take advantage of easy printer setup.
VersionTracker lists a dozen free FTP clients for Leopard. One of the most popular seems to be CyberDuck. I've been using YummyFTP for quite awhile, but it's not free.
No version of Mac OS has ever had an effective native FTP program. Some later versions like Panther and Tiger have been able to connect and download files from some types of FTP servers, but not upload.
Safari has never done FTP very well. I was disappointed about that back in 2002 because WinXP and Internet Explorer could FTP, but I moved on. Firefox users can install the FireFTP extension that seem to work well enough for casual use.
