Google indexing

I'd like to hear from other iweb 08 users about how long you've had to wait until your websites show up on Google. I submitted my iWeb site two weeks ago, with about 45 pages, and it still hasn't been indexed. I also submited a sitemap...

Hi Guys,
I've never been able to get my website listed whilst it has been published on .mac, but now I have it hosted eslewhere it is fine.
Few tips... Make sure you have a robots.txt also make sure you have a meta tag for the robots. Goto http://www.forkliftagency.co.uk and take a look at my site source.
Also make sure that the sitemap you have has been submitted to Google via the online Dashboard. Doing this helps you find any mistakes. Again, you are more than welcome to use my sitemap as an example, although you may need Dreamweaver to edit it.
Also been told this week that setting up an adwords campaign can help get a site listed, although I don't know how true this is... as I was told this by Google staff!
Cheers

  • Does Google index Adobe Flex content

    Hi,
Does anyone know if Google indexes Adobe Flex content?
I have seen many examples of Adobe Flash content being indexed but none so far for Adobe Flex generated SWF files.
I  have researched this a lot but cannot find a definitive answer....  Adobe say that Yes Flex generated SWF files are indexable but I have  found no evidence to support this.
Can anyone help me with my question??  I am doing a final year project on RIAs and I need to know!
    Thank you in advance,

  • Light Weight Portal with Short Links and Google Indexing: how does it work?

We have set up an EFP and activated Short Links. The content is provoded by WPC and everything is accessible anonymous. Now we wantetd the site to be indexed by Google, for that we used the Google Webmaster Tools, cteated sitemaps, and so on ... but Google is not able to index our site!
On of the issues are that when the Site root is accessed (like http://hostname/) we send a redirect to /irj/site. Our whole site ist only accessible with /irj/site?NavigationTarget=navurl://gte5... an so on.
We also use an Apache Websever as a proxy ib front of the portal an rewrite URL's. This works fine for the enduser, but probably causes problems to Crawlers (anyone knows that problem?).
Anyone had a same problem with Google Indexing? And found a solution for that?
    Thanks

  • Order form and Google indexing

How to add an order form.
I use my site for a small business (Photographer). I'd like to add an order page, so clients could order prints by pushing the the button. Is it possible to do so in iweb ?
    Google indexing.
The name of my business is Ida Holm Fotografi.
If you do a Google search on my name it shows up at page 3 after a lot of pages containing (by incident) the three words in a random order.
I don't need everybody to "find" me. I just want customers looking for Ida Holm Fotografi or Ida Holm to find my page. Thats why I sent only this three index words to Google.
I'd be happy for any advice, but If you say html I'm lost.

    Hi,
I'm no SEO expert, but I am starting a job on Monday as a search engine optimizer and pay per click executive, so I'm learning fast.
Google finds your site by following links from other sites. In order to be indexed at all, you need to have what are called backlinks into your page.
There are two types of website search engine optimization. On page and off page respectively.
The best place to start with on page optimization is the keywords that are used in the h1 tags in your page.
For my own site, I've so far left on page factors alone and concentrated on off page optimization. This means creating backlinks to your site. It's important to read about google's page rank system. If you get a link from a high page rank site, your own rakning will be enhanced.
Try posting on relevant forums and use your url in your signature. The search spiders will find them and the more incoming links you have, the better in google's eyes. I say this, but relevancy is also important. Google wants relevant linking, so make sure you post in an OT place.
Since the keywords you're competing for are probably very low competition, it shouldn't take you long to appear on page 1 of google.
I'm new to this myself, so sorry I can't be of more help. I'll be a professional at this soon, so expect me to know more next time!

    Joe

  • Google index external HTML data sets?

I know one of the workarounds to have Google properly index
dynamic content is to use HTML data sets, but I'm unclear about one
thing. Does this only work if you have the HTML data set table on
the same page you use it with, or does it also work with external
    HTML data sets?
For instance, will Google have a problem indexing if I use a
    external HTML data set like:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var educationLinks = new
    Spry.Data.HTMLDataSet("links/educationLinks.htm",
    "educationLinks");
    //-->
    </script>
    <div spry:region="educationLinks" id="linksContainer"
    class="SpryHiddenRegion">
    <ul spry:repeatchildren="educationLinks"
    class="unorderedLinkList">
    <li><a href="{url}"
    target="_blank">{name}</a> - {description}</li>
    </ul>
    <!-- end #linksContainer -->
    </div>

I'm doing the same exact thing using external HTML data sets
instead of XML. It is true that spiders will not index the external
page based on the Spry data you noted. My solution will be to
create a sitemap.xml page and submit it to the search engines. That
sitemap.xml file will contain all the pages in your site and the
spiders will use it as a central point to crawl all of those pages
specified within. So, I will just include my externally referenced
    files in the sitemap.xml file.
    Checkout
    http://www.sitemap.org for more
    information on that.

  • Google indexing xml-files, how to prevent....

    Hi developers,
maybe its a strange questions but i have a little dilemma.
I have some flash-xml sites and Google is indexing the xml-files.
When a user is searching (Google) and the text is inside the xml-file, the result of the search sometimes will be http://domain.com/file.xml
So when the user clicks on it only the xml-file is shown in the browser.
    Question:
Is there a way to link or redirect the xml-file automaticly to the index.html of the site?
Or is there another way to prevent this?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

You may get some help here, although this is not a AS1/AS2-related issue and is likely best taken to a web design forum such as http://forums.adobe.com/community/design_development/webdesign
Or better yet you might try Google itself.  They do provide some direction for dealing with having things not indexed.

  • Google indexing problem. sitemap and so on

Hi. I´ve been trying to get google to index my site but it asks for a sitemap. So I made one in one of those free services. But I have no clue what to do with it, where to put it and so on. I put my site out on .mac btw and here´s the url:
    http://web.mac.com/jupiterpete/iWeb/Websted/Welcome.html
    Any help?

It´s not located anywhere. I´ve tried to ad a folder Like this:
idisc/web/sites/iweb/public_html and I´ve put the sitemap.xml doc inside the last folder (witch I created.)
    I cant find the web adress to this place. when I tried I got this;
    "3. My Sitemap URL is:
    http://idisk.mac.com/jupiterpete/
    Example: http://web.mac.com/sitemap.xml
The Sitemap must be located at http://web.mac.com/. To add a Sitemap at http://idisk.mac.com/jupiterpete/, first add that site to your account and then click the Add a Sitemap link beside it."
So I still don´t get any results, but thanks for your reply.

  • Spry HTML Panel and Google Indexing

I've started working with Google analytics and am now realizing that my use of the Spry HTML Panel as cool and efficient as it is, is not being index by Google.  I am using the links with php pages that query a FileMaker database for it's content and need to have Google be able to open and index the pages.  What changes can I make to the standard HTML Panel Code to allow this to happen.  I'm getting ready to take on a large project and this will be very necessary.
    Thanks in Advance
    Joe

Ajax requests / all javascript are not seen by spiders / bots. Its a
    common issue with Ajax applications.
There a few ways to get them indexed. Point to it with a general site
map. So it get indexed through a other way.
Place links on the page that does the ajax calls to the urls. And
replace the urls with your HTML panel content.
So Spiders will follow the normal links and users will get the content.
Other way it to completely ditch html panel and just show it on the
    page it self :P

  • Question about cname and google indexing?

I hope someone can help me out with this.
I use a web address and have it forwarded to my .Mac hosted website. I have always been told that when getting indexed on Google and others, you need to use your iWeb domain name/address for it to accurately find you on the web. With the new cname, can you now use your redirected web domain for indexing in Google? Will Google find the regular web address now?
    Thanks.

  • Google indexing swf problem - please help

    Hi,
I made a site using a component named "loader pro" from a
    company named Jumpeye.
When I search the site in google, I get this:
    My Site Name
FASHION. TRAVEL. PERSONAL. CONTACT. Loader Pro. load and go.
    store .jumpeye.com. < prev. next >. PORTRAITS.
    www.mysitename.net/ - 2k - Cached - Similar pages
Why does this part show up and how can I get rid of it:
FASHION. TRAVEL. PERSONAL. CONTACT. Loader Pro. load and go.
    store .jumpeye.com. < prev. next >. PORTRAITS.
None of the above info is in my html page so google must be
    searching the swf.
    Thanks

    Hey!
Google tries to index the text in your SWF, and looking at
that i seems that it's reading your buttons as your website's text.
I don't know the specifics on how Google does this, but some
research can help you change that up.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Google Indexing problem

I really need some help - I created this site in DW:
    www.napatouristguide.com.
I submitted it to google, verified it, added a sitemap, and
waited a week so far. It shows that it found 15 urls in the
sitemap, and indexed 4. However, the only way you can find the site
in google is if you google the actual url. If you do any keywords,
including the title of the site, it comes back with nothing. (If
you do this you might see my original test pages which I posted
under another site I do, www.localwally.com).
Today, I accessed google webmaster tools and it show 31 404
errors. Many of the links are old links with old urls (I changed
them a few days ago based on the recommendation of a google faq to
not use "_" to separate words). However, some of the rejected pages
are actual live pages, such as my index page. When you click on the
"linked from" data, it shows it came from the sitemap. I originally
thought it did this because I changed the sitemap, but the
index.html file did not change names, nor a number of others which
    also showed as 404.
Additionally, someone else on the google forum is telling me
that when he types in www.napatouristguide.com he gets a blank
page! When I do it, I get the actual page.
Could someone please help me figure out what I need to do? I
realize this is a DW forum, but I am hoping someone out there takes
pity on me since it took me 15 months to learn DW and write this
site and now it feels like I am totally lost.
    Gary

    Hello,
I had no trouble seeing the page or the links.
    Take a look at:
    http://whois.domaintools.com/napatouristguide.com
If you expand the "SEO Text Browser" window, you'll see how
    Google sees your
    page.
    The content looks good.
I do see 1 H1 tag that matches keywords in the Title and page
    content, which
is good, but there are no other H2, H3, etc.
"The Best Hotels, etc" text could be in an H2 tag, the
    keyword there being
    Napa.
The words within these tags should be relevant" and don't
    "Overdo it". For
example, using Napa in every single one.
In the often secret world of what helps rank, it also doesn't
    hurt to add
ALT tags with a description to your images and titles to your
    menu links.
IMHO, one of the keys to SEO is the number of relevant sites
    that link to
    yours.
This is believed to be a very large factor in ranking.
Stay away from sites devoted to simply linking to sites.
These aren't relevant and you might even get penalized for
    this.
You can look in Google's webmaster tools to see sites that
    link to yours.
Also, on the Google home page, you can search for
    link:napatouristguide.com.
I did that and it showed no sites with links to yours.
If that's the case, or Google just hasn't spidered sites
    linked to yours
yet, that's likely the reason you aren't showing up in the
    first "x" amount
    of search results.
Also, you need to consider how many sites out there use Napa
    as a keyword.
The more "unique" your keywords, the smaller the competition
    in the search
    results.
Napa Guide and Napa have millions of competing sites, and
    it's not just Napa
Valley..it's Napa Auto Parts and so on.
You might consider using Napa Valley and even California in
    the title
    instead of just Napa.
Use Napa Valley in your page content and not just Napa.
You can use Google's adword program to generate a list of
    keywords that are
indexed for other sites using Napa, and get a better idea of
    what works and
what sites there are that are unrelated to Napa Valley using
    keywords
similar to yours. You don't need to buy ads, you can just set
    it up.
As far as the Sitemap.xml, yours looks OK.
You should definitely resubmit it, once you've tested all the
    links in it.
Sometimes it's a few hours, other times it's days or longer
    to show it's
    been crawled.
I have a a few sites with good positioning that only have
    half the links in
the sitemap indexed, 600 of 1000 links in one example.
I don't think that's uncommon, and it even states in Webtools
    that it's not
an error if links in the sitemap are not indexed.
You only have a few links though, so I would think the
    majority would be
    linked.
I would say the biggest thing to focus on right now is to get
    you site
linked to from other relevant sites.
Relevant meaning tourism sites, wine tasting, Napa Valley
    local sites, etc.
The way the link to your site is defined on the other site is
    important.
-"Click Here"- as a link to your site isn't worth much to the
    search engine.
-Click here for a great "Napa Tourism Guide"-, where Napa
    Tourism Guide is
    the link, is worth something.
You want to use your keywords in the link.
Image links are definitely not worth much.
    Hope this helps.
    Take care,
    Tim

  • Google Indexing mno.LCK files help

Hi all is there any way to prevent google from indexing the
check in/check out files ie mno.LCK, as I have a big site that uses
this facility and these pages are getting indexed which is not
    good.
I need some way of preventing this without having to use
robot text for every single file as it would take forever. Is there
a way I can add robots text to disallow all this files from getting
    indexed in one hit.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me
    Cheers
    Gary

    Hello,
You can block file types by adding this to your robots.txt:
    User-agent: Googlebot
    Disallow: /*.mno$
    Disallow: /*.LCK$

  • How to help an image-based site's Google indexing?

I've a client whose site, due to budget and time constraints, is made up mostly of images. It's not a high-traffic site, but it's a site whose target audience requires more visual "wow" than most. I am prefacing with this because I just know someone's going to say "use more text" and that's not what I'm here asking about.
Instead, my question has to do with Search Engine Indexing of sites made up mostly of images. Perhaps Flash-based sites have the same problem, but I don't believe in those. The site in question has no Flash. It's 100% valid HTML markup, only that it's got more images than text. Even the company address and phone numbers are images. Don't argue with me, it just is, and had to be this one unique time. ;-)
Could I compensate for the lack of text by creating a DIV loaded with company info, putting it immediately after the body tag in the code, and placing it outside the viewport so no one ever sees it?
I thought of simply putting a display:hidden on it, but thought crawlers like Google's probably look for that bit of code. It's so easy to check for, after all.
Will placing a div outside the viewport with pertinent text in it help with the SEO concerns? At least a little bit?

I think you already know the answer to this question so I won't beat a dead horse here.
Could I compensate for the lack of text by creating a DIV loaded with company info, putting it immediately after the body tag in the code, and placing it outside the viewport so no one ever sees it?
Google frowns on site owners who try to manipulate search results by seeding pages with hidden keywords.   I'm not suggesting for one moment that YOU would do that but lots of people have tried this with very bad results -- blacklisting or total removal from Search results.
Let's say you have a graphic banner in your header with the company name, slogan and phone number on it.  It's obviously got content on it but it's not indexable.  I think you could safely use an object replacement technique by adding a real text equivalent to the header and setting text-indent to -99999px.  This makes the text readable by screen readers and bots that don't use CSS while keeping it out of view of sighted humans. Just make certain that whatever text you use has a graphic equivalent on the page or you run the risk of being blacklisted.
In addition, be sure to apply alt and title attributes to every graphic. Search engines don't place much importance on them but they won't penalize you for using them either.
    Best of luck,
    Nancy O.

  • I have a question about flash website design and google indexing!

first off i want to say I hate HTML (call it HTM HELL) I love Flash.Im a big propononent of flash.OK about a month ago I built a 100% flash site, told google to crawl it,then come to find out they cant see any text inside images. So I did what i didnt want to do,I took all my hard work down and had to work even harder and created a fully 100% HTM hell site.and just under 4 weeks later google still has my flash site in its cache.the question im trying to get at is if google cant read 100% flash sites whats the point in creating flash sites(mine's a business site.)I want to get into creating flash sites for other people too but if google cant read them how would a person be able to do a search for say what i do:pc repair in google & then my flash site would come up in googles search results. This is potentially costing me lots of money.I dont like "coding" HTML i want to design in flash.HEEEeeelllppp!

Google can crawl Flash, though I'm not sure how well, but either way nothing can read text that is not text - ie an image. The workaround - and still relevant for all other search engines, is to put all your content inside the div tag that your Flash is written into. The alternate content that one would see if they didn't have Flash, or didn't have JavaScript enabled.
There is a good tutorial on SEO with Flash on the SWFObject site: http://blog.deconcept.com/2006/03/13/modern-approach-flash-seo/
You can also just Google 'Flash SEO' and get a good deal of info.
