Google woes- here we go again- iweb site stopped coming up in Google

I have had such great support here- it was only about a month or two ago I got help here getting my site to come up on Google- everything was fine- then all of the sudden- BAM- nothing! It's just as it was before- I would check from time to time to just make sure it was still working and just today I found that it will not come up. It is still showing as verified with Google with a sitemap- I made a new sitemap and downloaded it- I don't know what else to do or where to look- any ideas? The domain name is www.maxalexanderjr.com my .mac is web.mac.com/boxingchick ...wha happened???

The more links you have to and from your website, the more likely you are to come up in a Google search. The more links you give the spiders to crawl, the more information they can gather about your site.
The sitemap you have uploaded is not very comprehensive. The one that I generated from your URL contains a lot more links. If you email me - click my name in the sidebar - I'll send you a copy and you can compare it to the one you have.
Your sitemap needs to be updated when you add a new page and/or a number of new links.
Did you try adding the .Mac URL to Google as well as the www.maxalexanderjr.com ?
I only use .Mac for testing sites before uploading to another server so I don't know what effect domain name forwarding and/or masking has - if any - with respect to Google.
Perhaps somebody else does - anybody?
All the registered domain names that I have pointed at websites uploaded to a server have only been added to Google once. They still come up - even after several years. There doesn't appear to be a rational explanation to yours "dropping out".

  • How can I get my Iweb site to come up on google when I search for it.

So my "subject" is pretty much my question. Any takers on this?

What Roddy said is right. It's very important to have content with keywords, as well as keywords in other sections of your website. Getting it to appear in Google is easy. All you really need to do is create an XML sitemap and submit it to Google. An application such as Sitemap Automator may be a good option for you.

  • IWeb Sites Stopped Publishing after Months of Success

I have tried everything to get my web sites to re-publish with only minor additions (and even some streamlining), but nothing has worked.
The error in publishing seemed to have become a problem directly after I paid for more storage space in .Mac and/or when I updated iWeb to 1.1.2. But this is merely speculation.
I have already tried the following:
*reallocating storage to my web site (I don't use a lot of mail storage)-
*publishing iWeb to a folder to check how larger the site is (can't find a problem there)-
*backing up everything on Backup 3-
*visiting a Genius Bar where we discovered a problem with one png (rollover error) and discarded a full page-the site published there once.
*returned home to make some additions to my sites-couldn't publish AGAIN-
*connected directly to our cable modem to eliminate any network problems, but still will not publish)-
*my husband agrees that we are not having problems with our network (airport etc.)-
*my dotmac account shows only green dots (all functioning)-
*I can still view my website even with changes through my dotmac homepage (wierd)-
*sent a letter to Apple support (no response)-
I need my website to be up and running again soon because I'm looking to advance my career. I have people looking at my site as a portfolio, but they cannot find the page!
    Please, help.

Ok! Don't worry... At some point I was also lost. And I'm here to help, or at least try to...
Geeks say, they are like standard procedures you should go through whenever you have a problem, no matter what kind of problem. Some of those things are the Repair Permissions and Reset the PRAM. Another of those "standard steps" is to create a new user account and see if you have the same problems with the fresh created user. Anyway, step by step...
Just as a remark, I will be translating some things form my Spanish version of Mac OS X, so the names I give you might vary a little... Hope you still find your way.
    Repairing Permissions
This is actually something very easy, that you should do regularly. Maybe once a month or so. If you go to /Applications/Utilities/ there's an Application called Disk Utility. Open it and in the tab "First Aid", there's a button that says "Verify disk permissions" and another one saying "Repair disk permissions". Just click the "Repair disk permissions" and wait for the task to finish. After doing that, try to publish. When installing things, file permissions get modified and that might cause problems. In your particular case I might speculate that by installing something, some permissions for accessing your iDisk were modified and that's why you can't access it anymore correctly.
    Reseting PRAM
To reset PRAM turn off your computer. Now press the power button tu turn it on and press the keys "OptionCommand+PR" at the same time. I don't really know what the exact purpose of this action is, but lots of people recommend it. For more information check this Apple page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238.
    New User
Last but not least, you could create a new user account and check if you have the same problems on that new account.
    I hope this helps...
If not, let me know... I'll do my best to try to help!

  • IWeb sites can't be found by Google

This can't be real: No iWeb site can be found by Google bots.
Apple offers an app for people who are NOT html-savvy (everyone else would use a different, more professional app) - and if they want their sites to be found by Google or any other search engine, they have to find (and pay) a web designer.
Not only that no meta tags are added. All main text is turned into something else, a picture format maybe, I don't know, but I can't select those texts in Safari any more - they aren't text any more. Thus, Google can't find the titles, main texts and picture subtitles either.
Or have I missed something withing the related threads here?
Thanks a lot for a clarification
    Peter

    Peter,
Glad you figured out the text-to-png problem. The real text should definitely help once Google's spiders crawl your site. I think the real answer is that it just takes time. When you add pages or blog entries or whatever, try to use what might be more unique keywords in your titles or phrases that might make your webpage more visible in search results. Once I did an experiment on my own blog and used "Paris Hilton" in the entry. It took about a week, but sure enough depending on your search terms, my little page shot up to number one out of about 1.6 million sites. Lasted probably for about 3 weeks that way. Pretty funny.
So I guess what I am trying to say is that ALL of the search engines will eventually find your site (even with all of iWeb's crazy URLs). The real quest if you care about these things (sounds like you do) is how to get your pages closer to the top of the heap when it does get noticed. That is where you have more control...page titles and text and also unique links to your pages from other sites. Start "optimizing" your pages now and it will pay off later.

  • IWeb site promotion?????

I have three iWeb sites that are fairly well-read among my colleagues, and then a tiny little blog I've just started on TypePad. All of the blogs have a FeedBurner feed, which I promote. I do Google Alerts on terms that I often use, like "Original Green," and also on my name and the names of several of my colleagues I mention. I have never had a Google Alert EVER, EVER come up on any blog post EVER on my iWeb sites, but they come up like clockwork every time I post to the TypePad blog that few people read (yet.) What's up with the iWeb sites? Why are they (apparently) invisible to Google? What can I do to change this?
FWIW, if you can tell anything by looking, here are the three iWeb sites
    http://www.originalgreen.org (complete)
    http://www.mouzon.com (nearly done)
    http://www.newurbanguild.com (needs work)
And here's the little TypePad blog:

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

  • How do I get an iWeb site to show up on a google search?

How do I get an iWeb site to show up on a google search?

How soon will the GA page indicate that the code has been added and tracking started? I added the code to the my Demo and Tutorial Contents pages and GA still indicates that tracking hasn't been installed.
I am using the full url to the analytics.js file in the HTML snippet:
    newScript.src = 'http://web.me.com/toad.hall/js/demoanalytics.js';
The file shows up in the Activity window. I've done the same for the contents page of my tutorial site with the same results. The two sites are Tutorials and Demo.
    Any suggestions?

  • IWeb site registered but not showing up in Google

I've registered my iweb site through google's webmaster tools using DNS since my domain name is registered through go daddy. I've also got an account for it on google analytics using iWeb SEO but when i search google for my site, nothing shows up. I've even typed my website in verbatim and I still get nothing.
is there something else I need to do to get my site listed? I've started adding title tags and meta data to my most important pages (home and blog) to see if that would help. When I had my blog on wordpress and verified it through google webmaster it showed up the next day in search and i didn't even have to do any of the SEO like meta data.
I feel like i've missed a step, or maybe iweb is not as easily indexed?
    HELP!

Further information regarding the details would be helpful. However, if the site is unreachable it may be due to a known issue between GoDaddy and MobileMe. I spoke with tech support today regarding a similar issue with a iweb account that I have a DNS for through GoDaddy. The issue is being looked at by the support team and hopefully will be resolved quickly, but it I was advised that the issue appears to be from attacks on the iweb side which require the DNS address to be taken offline temporarily.

  • Iweb site working great but blog not showing in Google Search

Not sure how to get my iweb blog to show up in Google searches.  I am using iweb seo tool, and all my other pages on the site are searchable on Google, but the blog entries are not. It's been a month or more.  Is this something that's happening on the blog pages only because I"m using my ftp and not publishing through mobileme?  Not necessary that I have comments, but I would like the blog entries to be searchable.  Thanks!

iWeb SEO Tool allows you to add the title tag and meta descritption for the Google entry...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Tags.html
To get the spiders to this info you need to give them a sitemap with all the URLs to crawl. Blog HTML files are buried in a sub folder so you need to provide the path.

  • Using Google Analytics with iWeb site

Is it possible to use Google Analytics with an iWeb site? They have code they want me to put before the </body> tag.... and I can't find that tag. How do I get the code to show in iWeb? Can I insert this with an HTML snippet?
    Thanks!

    Hello ruralart,
After saving the automator workflow as a Finder Plugin,
mount you iDisk in the finder (ex. click on the iDisk icon in the left pane of a Finder window),
goto the folder iDisk / Web / Sites , select this folder "sites",
control-click on the folder to run the “Add Google Analytics” workflow.
Note : when you have iDisk Sync = ON, you'll see that the folder "web" is an alias so Automator will not work in this situation. You'll have to turn iDisk Sync OFF.
    Kind regards,

  • Photo Gallery Speed in iWeb Site

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on quicker photo galleries.
I've made my organization's website using iWeb... It seems to work fine, except a lot of the site is really slow to load, especially large photo galleries. I realize a lot of this has to do with the code, but is there another solution (have the photo's hosted by some other, faster service)?
    See for yourself: http://turtleconservancy.org/travel/brazil/
    Thanks for your help!
    Max

Hi guys, thanks for taking a look. The site is made with iWeb. The gallery was made by drag n drop + linking to image files, then adding the shadow box code in Dreamweaver.
When I said the site is slow to load, I am just looking to speed it up. It loads fine on every test machine i've used. I'm just looking to make it even faster! (Google Analytics is telling me it's slow...)
-If I hosted the linked images on another server (amazon cloud) would this speed things up?
-Is there another way to present a gallery of images with captions + shadow box (or similar, elegant) effect that would cut down the load time?
Also, a bit off topic, anyone know of a good resource to read up on taking advantage of browser cache capabilities and how to make a section of the site (ie. navbar) an "include"?
As you can clearly see, I am no pro... Haha! Any other streamlining/optimization tips are greatly appreciated!
Again, the site I'm working with here is: http://turtleconservancy.org/
Thank you for all help and advice!

  • IWeb Site Won't Authenticate. .htaccess not working.

Ok... I have searched for a solution and I just can't find one. I am publishing my iWeb site to my sites folder and serving them from my local computer. I am trying to password protect the site. I have enabled the .htaccess in both the httpd.conf and user.conf file. I have set up a .htaccess and .htpasswd file and have them in the main sites folder directory within my user folder. I can't get the site to authenticate. It just goes to the site. I have saved the files through textedit as plain text documents. Here is the .htaccess info.
    AuthUserFile /Users/username/Sites/.htpasswd
    AuthGroupFile /dev/null
    AuthName "Password Protected Area"
    AuthType Basic
    <limit GET POST>
    require valid-user
    </limit>
Any ideas. I am totally pulling my hair out here. Nothing seems to work. I have searched online and here and just can't find a solution... Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

    Elden...
Just wanted to let you know. I fanally got it to work. It was my .htaccess file. I was creating it in text edit and converting the file to plain text and then saving it. I guess this is not a format that it should have been in.
So I googled about creating a .htaccess file and found instructions on how to use pico in terminal to create a file. And that worked.
I have read though that I should be able to create .htaccess files in text edit. Do you have any idea what I was doing wrong or how I am supposed to do it correctly in text edit? Just curious for educational sake.
Thanks again, your help sent me in good directions.

  • Merge iweb sites from multiple user accounts on same computer

With the previous iweb version, my children created their own iweb sites on their own users, but all under my own .mac account. It worked great.
But now with the new "upgraded" iweb '08, that isn't allowed anymore.
So, I created a new user on our computer for all of us to use to maintain our multiple iweb accounts on.
How can I move multiple iweb sites from multiple users on the same computer into one user?

Each of the user's work in iWeb will be contained in a single file, Domain.sites2, which can be found in this location on the hard drive for each user account. You will need to copy all of these Domain.sites2 files to an external drive, or, at the very least, burn them to a disk to make them transferable from one user account to another. A flash drive also works great for this.
Once you have made all of these Domain files accessible from the new user account that you created, you will still have a formidable task ahead of you, i.e., publishing separate sites, from separate Domain.sites2 files, to the same .Mac account/directory. In other words, bringing all of these Domain files together for access by a single user account will not solve the problem. You may very well be able to solve the problem with things the way they are, but it will involve some shuffling of Site's files on the iDisk prior to publishing.
The method I'm going to give you has worked well for me. So far, here in the forums, I've read posts from (2) other users who were also successful. Conversely, I know of at least (3) other users who have been unsuccessful with this approach. I sure hope it works for you.
Open System Preferences and go to .Mac. Turn syncing off, if it is on, and leave it off.
Now, in Finder, navigate to the current Site files on your iDisk, following this path:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/NameOfSiteFolder
Drag the Site folder that is named for your site, (not the directory Site folder), back one level on the iDisk, into the Web folder. This is where some run into difficulties--you may get an error message that the folder is "in use, and cannot be moved". I have never gotten this message, and am able to move my Site's folders around with no problem on the iDisk.
If you are successful moving the folder, choose one of your other accounts on your machine, launch iWeb, and Publish all to .Mac. The existing site on the server will not be deleted. Now, go back to the iDisk and move that site folder, (the one you just published), back one level, again, to the root Web directory. Publish your next site, from your next account.
When you are finished publishing sites, just move the Site folders back to their original location on the iDisk--Web/Sites/SiteFoldersHere. All sites will be accessible from a browser using the web.mac.com/username/nameofsite url.
It is important to use the Publish all to .Mac command in iWeb. A simple Publish to .Mac command will not put the correct index.html file in place on the server.
Post back and inform us of your success.

  • 5 users to contribute content from window based PC's to iWeb site

I would like to create a website in iWeb '09 which will require multiple users to contribute/publish content, but the other site collaborators do not have Macs, just Windows-based PCs.

Welcome to the discussions. Even if your five users all had Macs running the same version of iWeb, it would still be difficult for them to contribute content — because iWeb's site data is stored in a Domain file on a Mac. This Domain file would need to be exchanged around the users for updating — which is not very practical for Mac users and impossible for PC users.
Instead of using iWeb, I suggest using a web-based design app accessible from PCs and Macs. Some of these apps have specific features for sharing whilst others may be sharable by giving out the single username/password to the other users. But this could be problematic if there's only a single email address associated with the username.
This first one is specifically designed for sharing:
    Backpack
Google Sites claims to make creating and sharing a group website easy:
    Google Sites
This one focusses upon "social networking":
    Ning
...With Ning you can add tabs and sub-tabs to specific pages and external links via the Tab Manager feature. Mouse-over the menu items at this Ning site:
    http://www.openwineconsortium.org
    And their tab manager:
    http://blog.ning.com/2008/08/a-new-tab-manager-early-next-week.html
    Other web-based design apps are:
    SnapPages
    Yola
    Viviti
    Jimdo
    Weebly
    Sampa
    Wix
If a sharable blog format is acceptable, you could hyperlink from your iWeb site is to a free Posterous blog. Posterous has "dead simple group blogging by email" where each of your three possible blogs can now have multiple contributers — see more here.
General info about Posterous blogs is in their FAQ. ...Group members can contribute text, photos, sound and video files, etc. to a Posterous blog simply by email. Plus there is the usual commenting capability plus comment alerts for the account holder.

  • Multiple users password for some pages on iWeb site?

    Hi guys,
I've been checking out this topic here on AD, but not really happy with what I found. Is there anybody out here who could help me with a multiple users password html code??? I want a "members only" link on the homepage linked to a page where people have to enter username and password and then go to a special "homepage" where they can click to different PDF files. It doesn't sound that hard, but again, I don't like the html codes I found so far. Hope there is someone out here who knows something nice.
    Thanks!!
    Marc : )

Marc ~ You may have to +"think different"+ to integrate the following suggestion into your iWeb site, but take a look at: http://drop.io/about
    Here's an example: http://drop.io/alancito
    ...the password there is: guest1
You'll find a downloadable PDF document at the bottom of that page and note that drop.io didn't require an email address, name or personal registration to set up the above “drop”.

  • How can I import my iweb site into iweb on my new laptop?

I recently got a new MacBook Pro and transferred my files over from my PBG4 12-inch (great little laptop). However my iWeb files/site didn't seem to transfer over to my laptop. I found the files of on my PBG4, and thought I placed them in the correct folder on my one.
Every time I open iWeb it asks to start a new site. How can I import my old iweb site into it and continue with it? Is there a way of doing it? I've a read a few posts some talk about the file 'Domain' in the Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
If I copy that file over to my new MacBook Pro, will my site be in iWeb again? I greatly appreciate some advice. Thanks.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Isotopecrunch,
    Welcome to the iWeb forums!
You are correct about referring to the Domain file; this is the file that contains all of your work created in iWeb, and the file that needs to be transferred to your new MacBook. There are some notes on how to do this here.
Take the time also to make back up copies of this file, and keep them in a safe place.
