GoPro 3 Hero Black

HiI wrote to support and told them, that my mini SD Extreme Pro card does not work in my GoPro 3 Hero Black Edition, but they had never heard about the problem before. So I send them this: -------- The card is placed in my GoPro Hero 3 Black and is skipping frames. When I import it into FCP frames are missing. I read about other having the same problem here:abekislevitz.com/understanding-your-gopro-part-2/One guy wrote: SD card fables:
1 - Gopro camera does not format the SD card, it only clear the index on the card.
2 - Class 10 card is not sufficient, I had some freezes, test the card writing speed on a USB3 PC and select a card with writing speed > 10MB/s3 - The well know Sandisk class 10 UHS-1 cards are no good for reliable working, Their writing speed is little below 10MB/s
4 - Best card for Hero 3 black is Transend class 10 UHS-1 with writing speed of > 17MB/s ------- I have installed the latest firmware and formatted the card on a max and after that in camera, but it is still skipping frames.  I have ordered a Transend.   Best regards,Claus.

I bought a Sandisk Ultra 64GB with my Gopro 3 black in China. Since the recording of sound is out of phase with the image, and the image is not smooth, perhaps missing frames, I bought a Supreme PRO micro SD 64GB . Since the performance was still not good at all, I updated the camera firmware. The recording is strange. It appears to delay recording and is skipping frames, but this behaviour repeats identically every one (or two) seconds. Testing both memories with adapter on a lapto with h2testw t I got 9MB/s for Ultra and 18MB/s for Supreme PRO for writing.  To be honest, after updating the camera firmware, the performance of the Ultra is much better than the Supreme Pro. The question are:Are there too many fakes Sandisk out there? How adequate the Sandisk are for Gopro cameras? Is Sandisk selling defectives memories cheaply instead of destroying them? The Supreme Pro memory was bought at mercadolivre.com.br with a vendor called Silvio Saito.I lost confidence for both Sandisk and Gopro. By extreme coincidence, Gopro 3 Black Edition has been badly regarded by many people. Silver Edition appears to be better. I also heard that Gopro does not accept big memories. thanksCarlos

  • Problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements

    Hello,
I have a problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements : the file is read but the quality is quite bad. When I watch it with other software like VLC or MPC, the quality is perfect but the video is sometimes slowed or there are some jumps in the reading.
What is the issue with this ?
    thakns for your help !
    Olivier.

This is easy. I do it all the time. FCPX ingests GoPro footage just fine. Optimize, and you're good to go.
BTW: A common hiccup occurs when dealing with over-cranked footage. (60fps or 120fps.) Be sure to "conform speed" to actuate the slo-mo. 'Tis also important to designate your project / timeline at 24fps or 30fps to realize the speed difference.
I've gotten burned in the past. I'll drag my over-cranked GoPro footage to the timeline. As it is the "first" clip layed into the timeline, the project assumes THAT speed as a default. (As per my preferences.) Thus, when I "conform speed," nothing seems to happen. That's because my project is displaying at the higher rate. A 60fps timeline showing footage shot at 60fps looks "normal speed."
FYI. (And disregard if you know all this.)

  • GoPro Hero Black 4k Project/Import Settings?

I've tried to import GoPro Hero3 Black MP4 footage into PP5.5 but only the audio imports so I'm assuming PP5.5 can't handle MP4's.  So, I'm having Cineform, a GoPro product, convert to AVI which is easily imported.
However, I'm not clear on how to set up a project for GoPro 4K footage.  Indeed, I'm not clear on the implications of the many choices one has when setting up a project.  If I choose the wrong one the project won't work?
    Thank you!

With this mixed bag of assets, you are going to have to compromise.
At first blush, I might want to start with a 3K sequence... up-scaling
the 1080, and downscaling the 4K.
If this ends up not working out, you can create a new Sequence with
different settings and copy / paste the clips into the new Sequence.
Your mix of frame rates is another issue.
I would pick the frame rate of the primary media source (hopefully
the 3K), and work in a Sequence that matches that frame rate.
If I set it to 1080 do I only get a small portion of the 3K and 4K footage?  Conversely, if I set it for 4K, are there huge black borders around the 3k and 2K footage?
    No.
You will use 'Scale to Frame Size' in the timeline
or a Motion Effect > Scale / Position to fill the frame.

  • Mpeg Streamclip, GOPRO HD HERO

What are the best settings in MPEG STREAMCLIP to convert 1080i GOPRO mpeg4 video files to Pro ResLT for editing in FCP6?
    Bueler?

I am shooting using the "r5" setting on my HD Hero which is 16:9 1080p at 30frames/sec.
There are myriad settings with MPEG streamclip - For Example: I assume that when exporting to FCP6 I want to "export to quicktime" under the FILE menu - correct? - once in the "Movie Exporter" pane I select "Apple ProRes 422" under Compression - ProResLT is not listed on my system. The quality slider is set to 50% but I have been moving it to 100% - is this a good idea or not necessary? Next comes Frame size - should I keep it unscaled? Should I enter something in the "frame Rate" box? Should I check "frame Blending" and/or "better downscaling"?
"interlaced scaling?" Should I deinterlace video at this point or do it later when I export from FCP6 at the later part of the workflow?
The rest of this "movie exporter window" I think I understand.
THanks for anything you can send along.
    Best,

  • Lens Distortion Removal Presets GoPro Hero4

In Premiere Pro CC I have the following Lens Distortion Removal presets for GoPro:
    - Hero2
    - Hero3 Black
    - Hero3+ Black
I have a GoPro Hero4 Silver. Where and how do I get the presets for that camera?

One option is to use the GoPro Studio software to transcode the GoPro source videos to .avi for PC or .mov for Mac, which makes editing much easier for many systems. With the added benefit of having a check box for Fisheye Removal, so clip is "ready to edit" in Premiere and not worry about it at that point.

  • Final Cut Pro X for amateurs?

I am an amateur. I have done some basic editing with windows movie maker and similar but recently became a mac owner. I don't want to waste 300 plus dollars on something that I will find frustrating and unusable. So I guess my question is this; How easy is it for an amateur to use? I have just purchased a "GoPro HD Hero 2" and I don't want what I can do to be limited by my editing software but, I also don't want to be pulling my hair out because I wasted $300 plus dollars on something to complex for me to work out. Please help. Do I buy it or not?

Well, you might like and try iMovie first, (should already be installed on your Mac)...
By far not as complex as FCP X, but it has certain similarities...
(some people even call FCP X iMovie on steroids... :-)
I changed over from iMovie to Final Cut Express a few years ago, highly enjoyed
the learning curve and the possibilities it provided...
Recently I changed to Final Cut Pro X, highly enjoyed the challenge to learn something new, after a few days everything was familiar again, and I never looked back...
This software is just absolutely amazing...
In combination with Motion 5, this package is nearly unbelievable...
Even FCP X is fairly sophisticated, and Motion 5 one can call indeed very complex.
I can only highly recommend both of them...
Watch a few of the introduction movies and in no time you’re ready to go...

  • Cannot duplicate event due to same file name

I'm trying to archive some video projects my boss has made using Final Cut Pro X 10.0.7 on OS X 10.7.5. The problem I'm having is that I cannot "Duplicate Project + Used Clips" like I have done in the past because this project uses clips from three different events, and each of these events contains files that happen to have the same names as files in the other events.
    For example:
    Event A
    - 00000-1.m4v
    - 00000-2.m4v
    - 00000-3.m4v
    Event B
    - 00000-1.m4v
    Event C
    - 00000-1.m4v
    - 00000-2.m4v
So let's say the project he's created uses all these clips. If I attempt to "Duplicate Project + Used Clips", it won't work because 00000-1.m4v from three different events is used in the project. Apparently FCP is written in such a way that it allows you to fall into this trap. What it should be doing is either not allowing you to import a file into an event if that file name already exists in another event, or it should be smart enough to rename duplicate files on-the-fly when exporting (for example, 00000-1-1.m4v and 00000-1-2.m4v). But it does neither of these things.
The problem here is that these are the three events:
    Event A = 108 clips
    Event B = 68 clips
    Event C = 80 clips
All FCP will say is that "two or more media files use the same name - rename the file or files and try again". Only it's not talking about the name of the file from within FCP -- it only cares about the file name as seen in the Finder. So even if I went into event A and put "A-" in front of all the clilp names, it doesn't matter, because it's not really "A-00000-1.m4v" -- the file is still named "00000-1.m4v" in the Finder, and the problem is unresolved.
Does anyone know any way of sorting out this problem without a massive amount of digging around, renaming files by hand and relinking?

I'm still stuck on this problem and in a couple of days I'm going to be sitting in on a webinar that will discuss archiving in FCP X.
I have tried several things and if I'm missing something I'd like someone to let me know.  I also cannot find much on this subject which is very surprising...or I'm not searching in the right places.  I'm going to submit feedback to Apple as follows:
Error:  “The operation cannot be completed.  Two or more media files use the same name.  Rename the file or files and try again.”
Operation attempted:  Duplicate project with used clips.
Second operation attempted:  Consolidate project media > Copy used clips only.
Cause:  Two or more events contain clips with the same name.
    Eg.
    event-20130126
              GOPR0002.mp4
    event-20130220
              GOPR0002.mp4
    Background:
This video project resulted in a one hour documentary that used recordings from 6 different cameras shot over a span of 4 months.  Each day’s recording, for the most part, was broken into separate fcp events.  This resulted in 48 events.
AVCHD imports result in media files whose name reflects the date and time of the recording which makes each of the imports’ media file names unique, even across all events.
Imports from cameras such as GoPro’s Hero use their own original file names such as GOPR0001.  Therefore media file names are not unique across all events.
Due to render and export problems, the video was broken up into 14 separate FCP X projects, aligned with what would ultimately be a “chapter” in the resulting video.
The 14 projects “share” events;  i.e. the events used in the 14 projects (chapters) are not mutually exclusive.
The source media as well as the events span over 3 physical external hard drives.
All 14 projects are on one hard drive.
    Consideration #1:
It would seem that one way around this problem is to merge all 48 events.  I will not do this since this function moves the events rather than copies them.  Additionally, I’m not even sure if I have enough space to consolidate all 48 events anywhere available to me.
    Consideration #2:
This leaves only one other option which is to rename the source media files and relink all of them across all events.
    Questions:
              1.          Why can’t FCP (internally) qualify the media file names that it imports with the event name?  i.e why is it left up to the user to insure that all of the media file names are unique across all events used by a project?
              2.          If it doesn’t do #1, then why were we not warned of this before starting.  I find out about this when I’m done with my project and trying to archive.  Now it’s a huge task to rename and relink.
    Thoughts:
Regardless of whether there is work-around to this problem, the fact that FCP has a “feature” such as events and allows projects to use more than one event but does not manage them properly reveals a weakness and flaw.  If such is the case, then it would be less painful, in this situation, to force a project to use only one event.
I wish that others would speak to this problem.  Or let us know what the answer to this is.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Pro trouble w/ video file import

When importing video files I can import all video files from my gopro 4 hero except for 1 of the files which is the one i need.  I can watch it on my computer on other programs/ap[plications but it says no audi or video available when I try and import to

  • Time Lapse Troubles...

    Hey guys,
I'm a student and am getting into some more serious editing. I've been working on a snowboarding edit for this season however am having some troubles with my timelapse.
                        - Ok to start I would like to clarify, what would be the best program to create and edit a time lapse?
I have photoshop cs5.5 extended, along with premiere pro and after effects.
                       - My next question is if Photoshop is the case, why is my sequence exporting in such a low quality?
Basically I upload my 2500 11 MP pictures with a frame rate of 59.94 and an exporting settings of:
After an hour of exporting I get a low quality 13 Mb mp4? Such as:
(I did do HD cropping 1920 by 1080 px)
                        - What would be the best exporting settings for the work flow?
I have tried multiple file types however the only file that had relatively good quality was the .MOV. From my understanding that was just because they are not compressed files and                              the fact the final out put was 17 GB. I figured I would use an mp4 H.264 because that is what my camera (GoPro HD Hero 2) records in, and i figured that it would be the best format                              for later editing in premiere pro so it fits together. long story short what would be the best file output, for high quality and later editing.
-What is the difference between the multiple .mp4 file types etc.
For example in the video settings menu of the exporting settings there is Mp4 then Mp4 (ISMA) and then basic, improved, H.264 and so on.
I believe thats about everything. Thank you so much ahead of time. I Apreciate it verry much. Thanks
    ~Brian

I think you'd do better asking in the Premiere Pro and After Effects forums.   I understand that a common application for constructing a timelapse vide is Quicktime Pro, but After Effects will do it.

  • Different footage resolution editing on FCP

    Hi
If I am making a wedding video using footage from these 2 different sources
Sony V1E capturing in 1080i or 1080p giving me 1440x1080 resolution, vid rate 25 compressor Apple intermediate codec
Either Gopro HD Hero capturing in 4:3 tallest HD Video 960p (1280x960)  vid rate 29.97 compressor H.264
or Gopro HD Hero capturing in 16:9 full HD Video 1080p (1920x1080)  vid rate 29.97 compressor H.264
I will be making titles and some extra things in Motion to add to this video
What should I do, should I convert all footage to something else in MPEG streamclip first and if so WHAT? or should I just pick a sequence setting and drop all the footage on and render it to match? Will this be losing me quality. Basically I am filming a wedding on the V1E but I am using the gopro for some funky extra's at the brides request. She will be watching it as a DVD and she will want it for the web too.
    Any help would be fab
    Thankyou

Your target output suggests there is no reason to shoot anything more than DV but you could go up to 720P if you insist. There is no reason at all to shoot 1080.
While you can use different frame rates and image sizes in the FCP timeline, most of us would suggest your carefully choose one format and either shoot it or transcode all of your footage to it.
Which codec? Impossible to tell. There are many wildly divergent reasons a skilled wedding photographer would choose any of the available shooting formats. frame rates, codecs, image sizes. You get to pick based on yoru experience and knowledge. Lacking either of those, you must choose the simplest path to the finished project, the one that will present you with the fewest unresolvable complications. Sounds like the bride is a friend of yours. Be a shame to go to her later and say, "Gee, um, I didn't get anything useable."
Be sure you know what you're going to do and know you're going to do it BEFORE the event. Practice.

  • Premiere Elements 10 slow GUI refresh

    Hi all,
I am experiencing a very slow GUI refresh rate using Premiere Elements 10. It has been happening since I first started using the program, but I am using it a bit more now and it's starting to frustrate me.
Basically, as soon as I open the program and create a new project, any action which changes the screen e.g. maximising, resizing the timeline, changing the timeline scale etc. occurs very slowly. For example, maximising the window takes approximately 4 seconds to complete, and resizing the timeline is very laggy.
It is shown reasonably well in the following clip, although it is much more pronounced for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C7GbqXir8o&feature=youtu.be
This issue has been discussed in a few other questions, but none resolved the issue (that I have found) or have kind of gone off topic, so thought I would ask myself in an effort to resolve it.
A couple of points to note:
Occurs WITHOUT any video loaded i.e. with a completely empty project. (Loading video doesn't have any effect)
It is not affected by the selected preset. They all have the same issue.
Somewhat curiously, playback of video is fine.
Disabling desktop composition as suggested in another post on this issue results in a slight improvement, but certainly does not make it go away.
    Computer specs:
Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1 (I am using the 64 bit version of premiere elements)
    Core i5 2500
    8 Gb RAM
    EVGA GTX 460 1Gb
    Asus Z77 sabretooth motherboard
Primary drive 2x 64Gb SSD's RAID 1 (OS and performance sensitive applications incl. Premier Elements)
    Secondary drive 2x 1Tb HDD's RAID 1 (Other applications & data storage)
Note that the drive configuration and motherboard have been changed recently, and had no effect on this issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks everyone for the responses, I really appreciate your assistance and thoughts.
Here goes with how I have got on with your suggestions/answers to your questions:
    Steve:
First of all let me just make it clear that this is occurring with nothing loaded - a completely blank project. Also, it would appear that it is a window refresh issue rather than program performance as such, as rendering/playback work just fine. This is just my initial impression though.
Footage is  from a GoPro HD Hero 2, recorded in 720p at 60 fps (actually 59.94). I convert it to .avi using the GoPro Cineform software prior to editing. I use the DSLR 720p 60 preset. I have also tried the 720p60 AVCHD LITE preset which does not have any noticeable effect on the issue. I have tried using unconverted footage straight from the camera; again this has no noticeable effect on the issue. When I add video to the timeline, there is no red line above it  - although when I apply an effect e.g. brightness and contrast one does appear.
I have never used still images so I don't know if they have any effect.
I checked just now for OS updates and and a few (11 if I recall correctly) which I installed. They had no effect on the issue.
I have also just updated to the latest graphics driver (320.49) and quicktime (7.7.4), again no effect on the issue.
The RAID 1 setup is a data mirroring configuration - each drive is an exact mirror of the other. I have this  as I have had a few HDD's fail and having to get a new one, reinstall, etc. is just a nightmare - not worth it when the risk can be effectively eliminated for a bit extra $. I do not think this is the cause as I have had a few different configurations while using premiere elements (the SSD's are quite recent) and the issue stays the same.
    John:
Thanks for the links, although I wasn't able to find anything that helped with the issue.
I will have a look for what you mentioned re an older driver being potentially better, and will try it when if I find one that looks promising and I get some time. I am not overly hopeful though as I have used several different drivers, and I have not noticed any difference.
    Bill:
I completely agree - I always go to the source for drivers rather than relying on driver update programs etc.
    ATR:
Firstly I would just like to point out that the link was not my video - it is someone else's, who appears to be a somewhat similar issue. Apologies, I should have made that clear in the original post.
What is really bugging me is adjusting the 'zoom' on the timeline (little bar on the right of the screen you drag left & right). When I move it, it will take a few seconds for everything on the screen to refresh. Not a massive issue, but really annoying!
    In response to your points though;
I was not aware that the timeline scrollbar ghost trails are common to other versions. Is this a common issue or just some isolated instances of it? I have personally not noticed any bits of clips remaining on the timeline.
I must confess I am a bit of a novice with this program, so would you be able to expand on what playback quality & playback settings I should be looking at? (Note that the playback itself is not an issue for me). Also, how might I go about checking for pile ups of preview/conformed audio/conformed video? If it helps I have all the scratch files in a dedicated folder on the SSD.
I have just defragmented, but it had no noticeable effect.
I would rather not use a registry cleaner (had some bad experiences in the past and not convinced they make a difference), and my computer is relatively clean. I do a complete fresh reinstall every 6 months or so and I am not in the habit of downloading all sorts of crap.

  • Editing H.264 .mp4 files in premiere pro cs4?

I recently got a GoPro HD Hero camera, and i've been shooting in 720 and 60i, the files that come off of the camera are in .mp4 format, and when i import them into premiere pro cs4 i can hear the sound but all i see is a solid green screen, can anyone shed some light on this problem?

I cant even get it to import to CS4
On both my desktop and laptop.
    It crashes and just hangs.
I tried CS3 but it would not even try to import saying not a suported format.
im updating to the new 4.2.1 to see if that works.
my compter is a few years old and it doesnt like HD.
    I can play HDV.
Even just playing yours in my media player it is having a hard time keeping up.
It plays fine on the laptop in the player so that is the one updating now.
Even G-Spot says that the codec is undetermened.

  • How to make High Quality HD DVDs from iMovie11 Toast 10 Titanium Pro?

I was searching all over the net to find answers to a problem that I have with film making at home. I'm trying to become an Indie film maker on a small amount of money to start out, so to speak. I've asked Apple over and over for some help, but they say - we can't because we don't support third party solutions. I have iMovie 11 and iMovie HD 6. I use AVCHD 1080i camcorders and a GoPro HD Hero for time lapse shots. Toast 10 Titanium Pro and a external LaCie d2 Blu-ray Drive also external hard drives. I'm trying to make high quality HD dvd's and then Blu-ray disks later also for my ( high elevation mountain video) demos. Codec/compression - bit rate/data rate - key frame - sample rate and what software to use or not is all confusing me. I've tried and I'm still not making video that looks as good as it did when first imported into iMovie. Can anyone please help me out with this mater. Thank You Good Day

Good FAQ type information [is at this link|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2424451]
In general, import to iMovie in FULL, not LARGE.
Export from iMovie using the SHARE menu. Use the 1080P Preset. You can SHARE/iTUNES, SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER, SHARE/MOVIE..., or FILE/FINALIZE PROJECT. All will use the 1080P preset.
You can also SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME, but I would not recommend it unless you know what you are doing.
Drag this file into TOAST 10 with BluRay plugin.
Check FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES in TOAST to make sure you are burning at highest quality.

  • MP4 to Apple ProRes codec

    Hi all!
    Just a quick query here.
I have a GoPro HD Hero sports camera which shoots at MP4. As FCP doesn't like the format I have converted to Apple ProRes using good old MPEG Streamclip.
I had roughly 40GB of rushes and once converted it has taken the folders file size to over 200GB!
Any reason why such a massive jump?
    Cheers!

    Cheers for you replies
I did think it'd be because ProRes was less compressed but to jump up so much made me ask. It just seemed excessive that's all.
Studio X - Cheers but I do run all my media from an external Western Digital 2TB Firewire drive, have always done so. I shall certainly be deleting the ProRes transcode once the job is done.
    Many thanks
    GK
