GPO to block writing to USB not fully effective

We have a GPO to block writing to USB media and it appears to work when using Windows Explorer. There is an error when trying to copy files to USB through the GUI.
However, I noticed that it seems to be ignored by command line.
What can be done to enforce this more effectively?

Please check if the value of USBSTOR was set to 4 (=disabled) in following registry path.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR
Please also refer to following article and restrict access to USBSTOR.INF and
USBSTORE.PNF via group policy, then check if this issue still exist.

Left USB Not Fully Recognized

I seem to have issues with my left USB port in that it doesn't seem to get recognized by the system properly. The right USB port works perfectly every time.
The best example of this is when I plug in my USB cable from my iPhone to the left USB port, iPhoto will not recognize the iPhone and show it in the source column. iTunes will sync without throwing any errors on the screen. This happens every time.
Another example is when I plug in my Logitech USB optical wheel mouse in the left port. Many applications (photoshop most obviously) will not fully recognize the mouse in that I can't do multiple layer selections via the Layers palette by shift clicking a second layer.
I'm using the latest version of the Logitech Control Center software and my system is completely up to date.
Any ideas?

Usb car charger not fully charge Nokia 5800

I have a usb car charger with a cable that has a usb plug on one end, and on the other end
there is a nokia 2.0mm charger plug.

But the problem is that it's not fully charge my Nokia 5800, only about 85%-90%.
Could this charger can fully charge a nokia 5800?
on the charger itself it's written "DC 5V +- 5% Max= 1000mA"

Voltage of the charger needs to be about 5.5 V to fully charge it. There are some car usb chargers which give 5.5 V some which give only 5 V. You need to check them and see if they work properly with your nokia.

Creative Zen Vision M not fully charging

(Creative Zen Vision M not fully charging( Hi, I recently bought a refurbished ZVM that doesnt seem to charging properly. When I first got it, it hadnt been charged in quite some time so the battery was overdead. My PC couldnt detect it when I connected it via usb and it didnt even start charging at all. I then connected it to a wall charger and it finally started charging. The strange thing is it never fully charges. I've charged it twice now, both times for at least about 2 hours, and the battery doesnt go more than 50%. And when I connect it to my PC to transfer songs, instead of resuming its charge, my battery runs out. Is this a case of a faulty battery? I li've in Australia and I bought it from the USA. I would prefer not to go through the trouble of returning it if I could. Anything I should do like leaving it to charge for an even longer time? Also one more thing I should mention. When I remove the wall charger and plug it back in, it takes the ZVM sometime to detect it, about 30 minutes or so, and start charging again. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You could try doing a hard shut down (holding the power button or yanking the battery) and then doing a safe boot by holding the shift key at startup:

Also, not sure if this applies in your case, but I've had that happen when there's a USB drive inserted either in the computer or a connected external keyboard. I did a hard shut down, removed the drive and it went through a normal start up.

Writing files is not supported on this device (smart camera 1722)

Hi,
I have a smart camera NI 1722 and I want to save images that I aquire. I use the "IMAQ Write file 2.vi" and I always get this error: "Writing files is not supported on this device".
Is the smartcam really doesn't support to write images in a folder? I've tried to change the path (on the smartcam and on our server) but I always get the same error.
I use LabVIEW Real-Time 8.5.1, LabVIEW 8.5.1, NI Vision 8.5 etc (all the lastest versions of LabVIEW).

Hello
If you already flattened the image, you can now save it on the hard disk of the smart camera. To load the image, you will have to un-flatten with an image again. See the attached document to see the block diagrams.
I did it for a template in a pattern matching program and worked!!!

Is there some reason why longer clips are not fully transferred? (a half blue circle shows up on the transfer list, indicating that the clip was not fully transferred. When I check in the capture scratch folder, sure enough the whole clip is not there!
Is there some glitch in final cut express that only allows short clips to be transferred in full?

I did this and it was already unchecked. So this is not the answer...
The strange thing is, I have been logging and transferring with FCE for 2 yrs without any problems at all with shorter clips, but have come up against the problem with long clips (over 5 or so min) the whole time. I got around it by simply making sure I stopped recording after less than 5 min while shooting footage. OR if I accidentally got a long clip, I import into imovie and then import into FCE. Not very streamline and I worry about compressions altering quality!
I am now trying to import a 20 min and a 17 min clip and it only transfers around 3 minutes of each, I have re-tried several times and it happens repeatedly. The blue circle in the transfer list shows up as a half blue circle instead of full. Clip cuts off after 3 or so minutes.

"Not fully ACPI Compliant" error message in BIOS when installing Vista 64-bit

When I try to install Vista 64 Ultimate I get this message after the initial black and white loading bar screen: "cannot install because the BIOS in this sytem is not fully ACPI compliant"
Board: 975X Platinum V.2 "20th Anniversary Edition"
Board Bios: 7.8 (tried to install 7.9 but failed (usb flash and msi online)
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6400
Memory: 2X2GB A-Data Dual Channel
Tried many solutions from other forums but didn't worked (disabling/enabling >> usb, parallel-game, acpi, apm) also tried with ps2 keyboard only., also with only 1 stick of ram....but nothing worked....
What the heck is going on?
I'm currently running XP SP3 perfectly, but I wanted to upgrade to Vista 64 and buy another 4gb of ram, etc.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

NOTE: I've read so many posts here from members and mods recommending to NOT flash the BIOS unless is inminent...I guess is good advice, but on the MSI website, the only new feature they mention about the 7.9 update is: "Add USB storage bootable function"....but then again, the update fixed my problem (read first post). So you never know...

Laptop wireless hard blocked - hardware key does not toggle state

this is my 3d arch install. i kept notes, and followed them exactly and this time i've ran into an issue i just cannot seem to debug myself.
this laptop is the hp envy 4 1130us. i also have the hp envy 6t-1000 with arch installed and this is not a problem at all for that version of the computer (one is my personal the other is my work machine).
after installing the base system i installed the wifi related packages:
pacman -S wpa_supplicant iw wireless_tools networkmanager network_manager_applet gnome_keyring
i enabled the network manager
systemctl enable NetworkManager.service
disabled dhcp (enabled from install)
systemctl stop dhcpcd.service
systemctl disable dhcpcd.service
enabled the wpa toolkit
systemctl enable wpa_supplication
add my user to the network group
gpasswd -a xero network
turn off the network interface controllers
ip link set down eno1
ip link set down wlo1
start the supplicant
systemctl start wpa_supplicant
start the network manager
systemctl start NetworkManager.service
reboot
after that the wired internet work perfect fine. the network manager applet detects the network and does it's thing. i configured and tested vpn as well, and it is also working as expected.
but then i pressed the hardware wifi switch (F12 key) and nothing happened. i pressed it a few more times, rebooted, tried again, tried during the bios/post test, etc. i simply cannot disable the hardware lock on the wireless.
so i went hunting on the wiki and here in the forums. nothing has worked. since, this was a fresh install last night i actually wiped the drive and tried the install again hoping i did something wrong, but with no avail. here's the debug messages:

so based on some of the output it looks like RFKILL is blocking it during the boot process. i tried to unblock it via the unblock all command, but that's only soft blocks. i'm really not sure what to try next, so i'm asking for help (before i throw my laptop out the window).

i was thinking that recompiling each kernel would be a huge hassle as well.
so i just booted 2 live usb disks.
the 1st, the arch installer - the wifi was still hard blocked.
the 2nd, debian / crunchbang. what's odd, is that in debian the wifi key light is while (enabled) but it's still blocked. if the press the button it turns amber (disabled), if i press it again it turns white again and is actually enabled.
it almost seems like arch is not "catching" the action keypress. the keyboard backlight key works out of the box, and so does the screen brightness keys. but i run xfce4-volumed to control the volume related keys. is there anyway to emulate the hardware keypress to even see if that's the issue?

so i decided to try and enable the rfkill unblock all service:
systemctl enable [email protected]
that alone didn't work, but... i booted into another os, enabled wifi, then hard powered off the laptop. when i rebooted into arch it seems to work now. it's a really hacky work-around. but i'll take it. i'd really like a proper solution, but it works for now i guess.

L505D-S5965 BIOS not fully ACPI compliant

Okay, I tried to reply to "BIOS Update Failure Satellite L505D-S5965" since my issue is similar and I have the same model, but that issue is closed so it wouldn't let me.
A couple weeks ago I was picking up my laptop and it slipped out of my fingers ad fell. Only about 6 - 8 inches, but it landed at an awkward angle. It immeadiatly started making a sound that made me think I had damaged the hard drive (a noisy whiring noise). I unplugged it and pulled the battery out immeadately. When I rebooted it, Vista never loaded fully, (I got a "Windows is loading files" but never a logo). I get a BSOD that reads
The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor for an updated BIOS.
STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x00001000, 0x00000000, 0x96408500, 0x00000100)
The laptop has not booted since. Ever since, I get the option to attempt to boot Windows normally or go into Windows Startup Repair but it won't respond to the keyboard to let me choose which, and after 25 seconds attempts to boot into Windows Startup Repair, which gives me the same BSOD.
I can punch F2 to enter BIOS or F12 to enter Boot Manager, but the system doesn't responcd to keyboard in either.
I swapped the hdd into another laptop, which booted sucessfully.
A known good hdd installed in this system gives same BSOD.
I removed the hdd and booted off a recovery disc, which yeilded the same BSOD.
I attempted to flash BIOS off a USB as described in the above mentioned post, and it never worked. It looks like it never accessed the flash drive. The BIOS version is the most current available according to Toshiba, 1.5
If I remove the HDD and don't have a Recory disc in the DVD drive, I get:
"PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
No Bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
This is the same with the BIOS flash drive or without.
I managed to disconnect the CMOS battery, upon booting the next time it recognized that power from CMOS had been interupted, but didn't change any other behavior.
So, do we think that my problem is physical damage, or did I do something interupting power? I have a parts laptop, so would the damage be, is it something I could swap (parts computer doesn't power off battery or AC, no lights, brick)
Anyone have any suggestions on what to try next?

First, let's try a system reset. Power off the notebook, unplug everything from it including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, next replace the battery and the AC, then power on, as soon as you see the Toshiba logo press 'F2' to enter BIOS setup, in setup try to press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit. If the keyboard still won't work in setup to press 'F9' and 'F10', try this operation again, with an external keyboard.
Assuming you can complete this operation, but it still does not resolve your problem, try powering off, remove the AC and battery, then try removing both RAM modules, next replace one module in a different slot, replace the battery and AC, and try it again. Repeat as necessary to try to find a bad RAM module and/or bad slot. See page 52 of your Satellite® L500 Series User’s Guide on how to access and remove RAM modules.

Bios not fully acpi compliant

I can't get past a blue screen (BSOD) which states ...The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant... I've researched this site and the web and can't find an answer that works. I'd like to try to update the BIOS since it's the original and there are 2 newer versions but they appear to require windows to run and I can't boot into windows. My system is:
HP Pavilion Elite Desktop m9340f
Q6700 @ 2.66 GHz
6 GB RAM (2x2GB+2x1GB)
Asus IPIBL-LB "Benicia" Motherboard
BIOS 5.25 dated 6/16/2008
Windows Vista 64bit
This is how far I get:

Microsoft Corporation flashes then BSOD
Here's what I've tried so far:
F8
Advanced Boot Options:
"Repair Your Computer" tries to start window, get BSOD
"Safe Mode" "Loading Windows Files" then BSOD
F9 HP Diagnostics works OK and all hardware checks out OK
F10 Setup mode, I've changed the SATA1 controller from RAID default to IDE and AHCI with same results
F11 Recovery (tries to get into windows and get BSOD)
Tried recovery using recovery DVDs with the same results when it tries to load windows
Tried Windows 7 upgrade disk with same results
Removed all RAM and tried one stick at a time with same results
Installed HD in USB dock and have run chkdsk (no errors), MSE virus scan (no issues)
Ran System File Checker sfc /scannow which resulted in this statement "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" I couldn't find any details in the CBS.log file
Tried clean HD (SSD) to recover to with same results
Reseated video card (same results)
Removed video card and ran off onboard video with same results
Reset BIOS to defaults
Cleared CMOS with jumper
I think I've exhausted about all I can think of and find online. Any ideas on how to flash the BIOS would be appreciated.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Recently bought an Iphone here in the Republic of Congo for about $600 and it was working fine until an update on Itunes. Now the phone just shows a USB cable and I tunes logo. When I connect the phone to Itunes it wants to restore and update, but then just blocks the phone again.

Who did you by the phone from? Apple? A telecom company? Ebay?
The phone was most likely jailbroken and unlocked. Applying the latest firmware updated undid that.

How are you trying to charge it? It's best charged using its supplied power brick plugged into the wall. If you're trying to charge it via USB your results will be mediocre at best since most USB ports don't put out enough power. Same results if you are using an iPhone charger for your iPad.
