GPS data without a FIX

Hello
I couldn´t finish the Part 1 of Homework 3 because my GPS didn't react when plugged on USB with the TTL cable (the FIX led didn't blink). Even though the FIX led blinks with one second rate when the GPS is on the breadboard, using GPIO.
I write some code to get GPS data, just to print it on console, and besides it didn't get a FIX (the led still blinks on the one second rate), I got the data below (a sample of it):

My questions are
Why I'm receiving GPS data even if it hasn't got a FIX?
The GPS led at least blinked on both cases for every one? (by USB and GPIO)
Thanks!

Hi manasouza,
for a so called 2D fix are the position for at least three satellites needed. The position of known satellites is send within the GSA record.
$GPGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,*1E
In your provided record it means that currently no satellites are used for the fix.
GSA Satellite status

  1 3D fix - values include: 1 = no fix
                             2 = 2D fix
                             3 = 3D fix
12x PRNs of satellites used for fix (space for 12)

  • Adding GPS data without "Address"?

I'd like to add GPS data directly without having an address.  I've tried entering the digits in various forms, but nothing seems to take.  Is this possible through PSE?
    Thanks!

Map View is an extremely buggy toy, especially if you have more than a thousand or so photos with map (GPS) locations.   See the Map View section of this message:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2306550#2306550
Some people have reported that if you do have thousands of photos with assigned locations, the Organizer is fine as long as you don't open Map View.  I've tested that a little and it seems to be the case, but I don't have enough information to say so authoritatively.
If you use another program to add a GPS location to a photo, you can cause the PSE Organizer to reread that location into your catalog by selecting the thumbnail and doing Edit > Update Thumbnail.

I looked at the same sight for that and it does not say that.  This is the first time I have posted a question, you don't have to be mean about it.  I am trying to get this to work for a good cause.
It may be the best source of assistance is the manufacturer of the device. I suspect you will need a specific app for the iPhone to get it to work, but the site is rather ambiguous about that.

    Hi Carsten
If you need to support the LENGTH SEMANTICS CHAR clause in an external table then one option is to use the unbound external table and capture the access parameters manually. To create an unbound external table you can skip the selection of a base file in the external table wizard. Then when the external table is edited you will get an Access Parameters tab where you can define the parameters. In 11gR2 the File to Oracle external table can also add this clause via an option.

  • Pictures with GPS-data will not be shown in list-view (PSE 11, Win7)

A lot of pictures of my collection do have GPS-data in EXIF-header. Sometimes they are shown on the world-map, sometimes not. In list-view they are never shown. The list-view knows only locations, which are matched with PSE.
The EXIF-input was made by two different tools (Holux GPS Software and Geosetter 3.4.16).
How can I get the list-view for the saved files without using PSE adding location?

Many modern cameras add GPS co-ordinates and these will usually show in the info panel of the Media module under Camera Data >> GPS
I guess your exif tools work differently to a camera. Are you able to embed the metadata into the image files before importing into PSE Organizer?

  • Want to Strip GPS Data from Photos

Does anyone know an easy way to get iWeb to strip the GPS data out of photos being published as part of the Web pages? The box in the iPhoto preferences to include location data in published images is unchecked, but this only seems to affect MobileMe galleries, not iWeb.
    Steve

Sorry, I should clarify. I am dealing with my daughter's pages, and don't use iWeb that much myself. I realize the PNG images on the regular pages don't have this issue. The issue is if there is a photo page and sharing is allowed so visitors can download an image, the downloaded JPG file has the GPS coordinates in the Exif data. We would like to allow sharing, but get rid of the GPS Exif data without undue hassle (exporting and re-importing images, etc. etc.)

  • GPS data does not show up in mobileme gallery or exif info of exported pics

    Hello,
I used places to geotag some of my pictures.
That went nicely, and I now have Latitude and Longitude Metadata entries
in the exif part of the metadata displayed by Aperture.
    However, when I export these pictures to JPG, this information is gone;
the metadata of the exported pic does not contain latitude/longitude information.
Likewise, when publishing these pics to mobileme, no gps information is found in the
    "information" part.
How do I write the gps data to the picture such that exports contain it and mobileme will display it?
    (Aperture 3.03)

Similar to bjrnfrdnnd2, I have the 'Include location info in exported photos' button selected all the time in the Export Preferences. Unlike him however, the GPS information developed using Places (lat & long) does not get exported when I export photos. It is not present when I reimport the photo back into Aperture, nor does it show up in Preview when I examine the file using Inspector in the Tools menu (I export the Master File).
Interestingly, if I export a photo from iPhoto with the include location info box checked, the GPS info does import into Aperture without problem AND, most strangely, will also export with the GPS information regardless of whether the 'Include location info in exported photos' is selected in the preferences or not. The same thing happens if I import a geotagged photo from my iPhone into Aperture; that is, the GPS information gets exported regardless of what the Preference setting is.
Exactly the same thing happens on my MacBook.
I've checked my disk for problems using DiskUtility, repaired the Aperture Library, tried using a new library and also deleted the Aperture preferences file and created a new one. All to not avail.
All I can conclude is that depending on how the GPS data are input into Aperture (as part of a photo that is imported or as determined within Aperture using Places) the information is stored differently and so is attached (or not) differently to exported photos.
Has anyone else experienced this issue or does anyone know what might be wrong here?
    Thanks

  • How to check image GPS data and get image file from image field

    Hello,
I have some trouble and want to fix this problem.
    1. I want to validate image file before its attached in image field about the image file have a GPS data or not. Have any way that can be check about image has contained a GPS data?
    2. After validate image and PDF form is upload to the server. I want to get image file that embed in image field, because I have to extract image from PDF form and store this image in project image folder. If this topic can be fix by code script please give me some example code.
Thakyou for every comment and suggestion
    Best Regards,
    Mai

    Hi Naill,
First I have to say thankyou for your answer.
About my (1) question, My image fields have set to be a embedded data and I try to test many example script of image fields.I can get image content type, image size. But that not work when I used ImageField1.desc.embeddedHref.value. It's response as "Unknown Embedded URI". Therefore, image field is and embedded data. How can I access filename?
    (2) In that forum. As I see, his problem is about how to automate change image field with href image file. But I want to extract an exist embedded image in PDF form to normal image file with original metada (such as extract image filed to .JPEG with GPS data. Same as before attached in PDF form.). There has any concept or solution in this problem?

  • PSE 12 and GPS Data

    Hi.
Have found only one other post about this and it seems that there may be some misunderstanding as to what some users are doing, so I will explain in some detail. Please note that I have only just moved to PSE 12.
I import the my photos directly from my Flash Cards into the Organiser Album (Ctrl+G). As my camera does not have an internal GPS, I take an external GPS with me and use GeoSetter to update the EXIF data on the imported images. GeoSetter not only provides the GPS coordinates it also provides the location names (country, state, city, etc.) and this is all populated into the EXIF file. This data is visible to the PSE 12 Organiser.
On an old versions of PSE (that had Yahoo maps) I would then refresh the images (have forgotten the command) and the GPS data would be used by the Organiser. I would then select the images and use "Show on Map" and all shot and location points would become visible on the map.
I assume that PSE 12 can accept GPS and Location data from the EXIF, if its imported from the card because it does seem to have this functionality.
I'm unable to find a way to get PSE 12 to refresh the Organiser so that it can now use the GPS and Location data that has been written to the EXIF file after its been imported.
    Can anybody help?

Some things that I have found out:
If you select your new photos (or all, if this is the first time you are using PSE 12 and you have imported an old catalogue), "Right Click" -> "Update Thumbnails" the GPS locations from the images will show on the Map. While the flags have been pinned into the map, the association to the images have not. Sounds confusing, or even impossible, how could the flags be displayed without linking to the image?
When it comes to updating the "Places" in other words the location "Place Tags" in PSE 12 it seems that these have to be placed manually. That is, you are required to place the images on a Map location to get that location recorded. So the data help in the EXIF file is ignored.
I'm very confused by how this system has been designed, I could even speculate that only part of the design has been coded, so they released what worked?
If there is somebody out there with a Camera with an internal GPS, I would like to know if the GPS data and location tagging is supported when images are imported.
PS: The online help is no help because it talks about features and even buttons that don't currently exist.

  • Aperture 3: GPS data gets lost after 'Update from Master'

My library contains photos in JPEG format that I geotag in Places, then I save the metadata with 'Write IPTC Metadata to Master'. The problem I have is, that the GPS data gets lost after I do an 'Update from Master', even if I saved the metadata before. I'm having this problem with referenced and managed photos and all my JPEGs from several different cameras. The only way to permanently store the GPS info into my photos seems to be to export the geotagged photos as versions.
Does anybody has the same problem or knows how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

Use Houdah geo (http://www.houdah.com) to write location data back to the EXIF. It's interface is very similar to Places (Google maps and pins) and you can interface with the Aperture library. It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it done now rather than wait for an Aperture 3 fix, then...

  • How to write EXIF/GPS data to masters?

I have an Aperture library captured with a non-GPS camera. I added geotagging data through Aperture, but am now migrating to Lightroom. Obviously I want to import my masters into Lightroom without losing geotagging/GPS information, but it's also obvious that Aperture will not write EXIF data to masters (other than time/date, and it doesn't seem to be doing that right, either).
I have installed the Maperture plugin, and while Maperture can see my Aperture-made geotags, it will only write GPS data to masters if you change the Aperture data: simply clicking the "save" button without altering the geotag results in no action.
I also have the trial version of HoudahGeo installed. This won't seem to do the job, either, as it only recognizes about 70% of my pictures. For example, if I select an Aperture project with 17,000 images (all geotagged), it only recognizes the library as containing 11,000 images. Even worse, it only recognizes about 1,000 of those images as containing GPS data.
Are there any other options for writing this GPS data to my masters? Thanks for your assistance.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Karen.
My library has been rebuilt recently, so I don't think it's a library issue. It affects all project, and it's not a matter of it simply not recognizing alternate versions or stacks. It just simply is recognizing about 30-40% of the pictures in any given library.
On other issue I'm having with Aperture is that it isn't handling date and time adjustments very well: in addition to adjusting the time/date in the way requested, it also shifts the time zone to my current time zone, EST. For example, I might have an image from China with the EXIF time of 7:30pm, UTC+8. I use "Adjust Time and Date" to set the time to 8:00pm. The end result is an image with the time of 8:00am, UTC-4 (EST). While the adjustment has offset the time by the correct amount, it has also changed the time zone for some reason. I understand that a simply workaround would simply be to use the time zone adjustment to achieve the same effect, but it's not always possible and shouldn't be necessary. I very much doubt this has anything to do with he HoudahGeo issue, though.

  • Exif and gps-data in xmp-file overwritten, sometimes

I have a problem where LR4 on import seems to rewrite the xmp-files, and in that process data is lost, notably GPS-data, is lost.
    My workflow:
Create xmp-file with Exiftool from CR2-files (sets copyright etc)
    Geocode with Geosetter
    Color labels with Photo Mechanic
    Import to LR4
After import geo data is gone for around 30% of the files. It seems like files that have recieved a color label by PM is not affected, and many files without color label are correctly imported.
I never loose any data before importing to LR4.
Anyone have any suggestions about what could be going on?
I use a Canon 7D, Exiftool and Geosetter are updated to latest versions, LR version is 4.3.
I couldn't find how to attach files, but if anyone is interested in seeing how the xmp looks before and after LR4 import, I could copy-paste the code in an answer.
    Best regards,
    /Pär

    Hi Pär,
Do I understand correctly that you have an xmp-sidecar present to your CR2-raws, when importing into Lightroom?
Then LR should read it during import.
Maybe the format standards are not clear, maybe Geosetter does not write the xmp-parts where LR expects the data?
But to save your original xmps: change your catalog preference settings, to NOT automatically write xmp to files.
Then you will have time, because then LR just reads the xmps on import, but does not write anything, unless you invoke it by selecting images and hitting <ctrl> s.
Which you would only do once you have assured that everything from your original xmp has arrived in LR's catalog.
Maybe it does not work reading that just during import, but possibly on a 2nd read after?
You could check, once you have disabled auto-xmp-writing, by invoking another explicit Read Metadata from File.
...just a wild guess, to rule out a potential bug there...

  • How to delete/update GPS data using Lightroom?

Title says it all, but I'll explain why I need it.
I have a Sony SLT A55 which is apretty good camera, it has a GPS.
The way GPS work in this camera is it gets a fix, and then updates every undetermined time the position. That's okay, what is stupid in its design is, if you haven't taken pics in let's say 24 hrs. and you move several miles away and start shooting indoors (no GPS signal available) it will mark all your pics with your last known position, so now I have several photographs with a location I left several DAYS ago. I'd prefer the camera not to record GPS data than having a wrong location, but that's another thing for the Sony forums.
So, now I want to delete (or update would be another option) the GPS data from the pics that are tagged with wrong locations.
    I'm shooting RAW,
Is there any way to do it inside Lightroom?

I’m a Nikon user, and here’s how I geotag my images when I want to (not very often). I use a Nokia N95 smart phone and Nokia Sports Tracker to track coordinates with timestamps. I use Nikon’s ViewNX2 to import the images from my camera (or card) to the final destination (folder) of the images. I also transfer the log file from the Sports Tracker to my computer. Then I use ViewNX2 to geotag the most recently imported set of images with the log file from the Sports Tracker. (I don’t know why but I have to adjust the time offset by one hour, fortunately this setting is sticky so I don’t have to do it every time). When the images are geotagged, I do an in-place import in Lightroom, and Lightroom recognizes the GPS coordinates.
ViewNX2 is a free download, and I think this scheme can be used to geotag jpg of tif images from any camera. The raw file capability of ViewNX2 is understandably restricted to Nikon cameras. You could try Geosetter, another free download. The problem with my system is that Geosetter did not understand the log files of my Nokia N95. GPSBabel can translate the log files to a format acceptable to Geosetter, but since ViewNX2 does importing and geotagging (and time-offsetting the N95 log file), I have no need for additional programs.
WRT to the original question ("how to delete/update...") you could try the following: write all metadata (keywords, settings) to your master image files in LR. Then use Geosetter or some other additional tool to modify the GPS data or the affected images. Finally, synchronize the images back to Lightroom, and select the option to use metadata from the images (instead of LR's catalog).
    Best regards

  • How to export project(s) with GPS data

I tried to export a project with GPS metadata but when I import that project (as a library) into my Aperture on my iMac, no GPS data...
    Am I missing something obvious??
    Adam

    Hello Adam,
First of all - shift-L does NOT bring up the lift and stamp HUD on my Aperture 3...in fact, on the menu, it has no keyboard shortcut.
That is surprising for me, perhaps in my list of questions I should also have asked for your OS and exact Aperture Version. I tried this with OS Lion 10.7.2 and Aperture 3.2.1.
But you found how to bring forward the Lift&Stamp HUD, so that is not so important right now.
It is really good to know that you see GPS data on your images. Those you should be able to export.
I apply your smart album and it's rules, that image shows up...so if I see latitude/longitude data in the metadata tab, why does your smart album pull it out??
Probably your GPS tags contain Latitude/Longitude allright, but not the GPS version.
Remove the rule '"GPS Version" is empty' from the smart album, then you will see only those images that don't even have Latitude or Longitude. Hopefully that are not too many.
I guess from my perspective, if I either assign a "place" for my pictures or import GPS info from my Garmin, shouldn't that put the right metadata in so that it could be exported properly?? If not, when I move these images to my iMac I will have to redo ALL my places...which doesn't make sense...
Sorry if I'm not getting it...
sorry, if I am not explaining properly...
I have done some experiments right now with my current Aperture version 3.2.1 and surprise, surprise! Seems I have to eat my words.
In this version 3.2.1 assigning a place to an image seems also to set the GPS EXIF data, not only the places name as IPICT. What a relieve!  I used to have to assign Places data over over again, because the places information would not be recognized by my other applications. So my advice to you is to upgrade to 3.2.1 if you have not done so.
I suspect the GPS data you see without "GPS Version"-tags are those you created manually in Places, wheras any other GPS data with GPS Version Tag come from your imported Garmin tracks.
I have to make further experiments with this new behaviour before I can feel confident to give advice, and I could use a helping hand here. Anyone?
@Kirby Krieger: I see you have been looking in on this thread, could you please confirm if this new places behaviour is also true in SL, if you have time?
Sofar I tested the following with several folders and it worked beautifully: Try it.
Export the folder from Aperture as a Library:   File -> Export -> Project as a library
Reimport it to Aperture on your other machine: File -> Import -> Library/Project
    Regards
