Graduated fills in table cells

How do you make a graduated fill in tables?
I seem to be able to make a graduation from left to right but not top to bottom.
Here is an example of what I am trying to do...

I had a thought that maybe cell styles would do it. But although you can make a style from a gradient-filled cell, and when you apply it the swatches panel will confirm that the cell is filled with the gradient, in my test it was actually filled with a solid of one end of the gradient.

  • Grep: How to fill a table cell with certain color

I have an excel sheet with 5000 rows that needs to be formatted in Indesign.
    1. Is there a way to get a certain color fill of the cell depending on text. Lets say if the text is "apple", the cell should fill with red (and text also color red to make it disappear).
    2. How do I make two different character styles to appear in the same cell (information is tab-separeted but sometimes I would like to have 2 "paragraphs" in one cell sometimes – with that I mean two tab-delimited cells from excel to appear in ONE cell in indesign).
    Thanks in advance
Example of what I would like to accomplish:  http://tinypic.com/r/vo4och/6

Yes but wouldn't that make the field contain a string?
I tried something like that, and every field I edit becomes left-justified, and String (instead of int, float which is right-justified)

  • Transparent gradient in table cell

When I try to fill a table cel with a feathered gradient that has transparent areas in it, the gradient turns opaque in the table cell. I've also tried anchoring a shape with a gradient into a table cell, and again the transparent areas turn opaque.
Is there a workaround to fill a table cell with a gradient that has transparent areas in the gradient?

    Corrigendum:
If one is aware that the gradient, even when applied to a cell, takes in reference the entire table, then yes, it is possible!
The shadow on the table is a little gift from Obi-wan!

  • How can I add dots after text to fill the remaining space in a table cell?

What is the most efficient way to add dots after text to fill the remaining space in a table cell? I know it is possible using tabs but is this possible using a table?

You can put a tab inside a table cell using Option+Tab
Then just set the right-aligned tab stop and the right edge of the table cell and add the leader.

  • How can I save semi opaque background fill in a pages table cells?

I am trying to add background colour fill to some cells of a table.  Solid, 100% fill is easy, but when I slide the opacity slider in the colours window and add to a cell, the new colour can be added to the table cell, but only saves as the full 100% colour in the saved document.  I save the Pages document as a Word document.  Thanks for any help.
    George

How does it work if you save the document as the native .pages format? A lot of Pages features doesn't convert well to Word, or vice versa. Don't expect Pages to be a cheap Word substitute.
I can't check out what you are describing as I don't have Word.
Tip: Always save first as .pages, then you can EXPORT to another format. PDF is better format to retain what you have acheived in Pages.

  • Fill table cells with color % depending on cell content

    Hi.
I'm working on a document with a lot of tables filled with percentages. The tables are originally on a Word document and the table cells are tinted according to their content: a value of 20% on the cell corresponds to a tint of 20%. This is done automatically on the Word document through a conditional formatting option that applies a graded color scale. Is there any way to do this in InDesign? I tried placing the tables and tried all options, but the color is not imported. Perhaps a script or a GREP style?
    Thank you.

Conditional formatting in Word is done via formula, but in Excel it is handled more "on the surface" and Excel's conditional formatting carries into InDesign nicely via Place or Paste. It could be worth considering moving those tables into Excel.
InDesign doesn't do this kind of formatting as a native function, but it couldn't hurt to ask about possible scripted solutions in the Scripting Forum.

  • Alternating table fill style and cell style (CS3)

    Hello,
I have a problem with alternating rows.
When I apply alternating row fills in a table,
it only seems to work if I don't use any cell styles.
As soon as I apply a cell style, the fill defined in the table style disappears.
I tried setting the fill in the cell style to 'none' and to 'ignore',
but it still is overriding the table style apparently.
Is this normal? Can something be done about it?
Or should I apply different cell styles for every other row?
How could I do that easily?
I don't find anyway to select multiple non-adjacent rows.
    Thanks for any help.
    InDesign CS3, WinXP.

Z, I had a similar problem.  The two provide contradicting info for some reason and program grabs just one.  I would remove the cell style and work with just the table style.  Set the fills in the table style then apply a cell style if you want to align only the text within.  Hope this helps.

  • How Do I Change the Padding in Table Cells

Hi, I am trying to set up a table that will allow text to fill the entire cell. I know that if I double click an individual cell, the left and right boundaries of the cell will be displayed on the ruler. However, I can't select multiple cells (even in a column) to adjust the boundaries. By default, all cells are created with no padding on the left, but half an inch on the right. I want no padding on the right as well. I know I can change the the tab for the table with the text inspector, after the fact.
So, #1. How can I change the default right cell wrap for all cells in a table?
Additionally, I know how to get rid of the padding above the text (via text property "instant margins"), but I also need to eliminate the padding at the bottom of the text. When I adjust the instant margin, it just moves the text the upper-left corner of the cell, but does not change the vertical size of the cell. I can change the individual row height by grabbing the border and dragging it up, but, again, this is a pain for large table. I know I can also change the overall cell height by dragging the lower table boundary.
#2. How do I change the default cell height so the cell is tight against the text, regardless of the font size, for all cells in a table?
Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gary

    Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, those options will not do what I need.
If I turn off "Wrap text", the text overflows the cell and the text in the adjacent cell to the right will hidden. I still want the text to wrap, just not half an inch from the right border.
And the "Resize to fit" changes the cell width, which I want to keep the cell at a static width.
One workaround I found, was to modify the table as needed, using text properties, and then save the table as the table default. Unfortunately, that overwrites the factory default, and new table's tabs in other templates (all other properties seem to be retained)
The second option that seems to work, is to save my entire document as a template. That seems to hold all the properties for graphics, tables, etc.
A bit kludgy, but those methods seem to do the trick.
Now, how do I get the default table properties back?

  • Quickly fill in blank cells (Excel equivalent)?

I often import reports from Quicken into Numbers to create data tables for analysis purposes and find that I must fill in blank cells to ensure I have data consistency across rows.
While I am confident there is no built in way for Numbers to quickly populate these blank cells, I am asking here if AppleScript has the potential of providing the means.
The following link gives insight into how it is done with Excel. Does the AppleScript library provide the tools for something similar?

Again SGIII, more than I expected.  Thank you.
A zero is treated like an empty cell.  It is overwritten with the previous non zero valued cell.
Lastly, so that I understand what you provided, I inserted comments for each line of code.  Would you please look over my comments to confirm that I get it?
My problem with learning AppleScript is that while I think I understand the code while reading it, I don't know the AppleScript vocabulary to create the code myself.
    -DaverDee
    Tells…
—From the selected range, in a table, on a sheet, in a document, within Numbers...
    — Set the variable ‘pv’ to null.
    set pv to ""
    — Begin a loop starting from the initial cell in the selected range.
    — Define ’c’ as value in the current cell.
    repeat with c in cells
    — Copy the value of the current cell to the variable ‘v’.
    set v to c's value
    — If the current cell value stored in the variable 'v' is not zero, then copy the value 'v' to the variable 'pv'.
if v is not 0 then set pv to v
    — Otherwise, set the cell value defined by 'c' to be the value stored in 'pv'.
--Note: If nothing has been stored in 'pv', as in the case when 'v' is zero which occurs if zero or null is the first cell value in the selected range, then the cell is populated with a blank.
else set c's value to pv
    —Close the If.
    end if
    —Close the repeat loop.
    end repeat

  • Read Only and HTML Table Cell Attributes

    Hi Guys,
I believe i have come accross a bug - i'm been working on a form that can be filled out and printed - when going into print for sake of the output looking nice i set the form element to read-only.
As soon as an element such as a drop down box, text feild, text area, etc which display as "[selected value]" in plain text in read only mode, are changed to the read only mode apex seem to ignore the html table cell attributes.
For example i have a id number in the top left and then a version number in the top right. Both use a text feild; the top left uses 'width="100%"' for it's HTML Table Cell Attribute to push the right cell to the right. and the right cell has 'align="right"'. Now this works fine when read only is off... but as soon as read only is on, both the width and the alignment are totally ignored, and i can't find any sign of them in the code.
Because this is for printing; using the "disable" on the form element instead of "read only" function, isn't appropriate as disabled will make the elements faded and hard to read when printed, and keeping the elements as is will allow the user to edit information on the print screen - which is not appropriate.
Is this a bug? Will it be fixed soon? Is there any work around?
    Cheers,
    Alex

Use the "Read Only Element Table Cell(s) Attributes" in the Read Only region of the Item edit form.

  • Lines in shaded table cells do not render properly in pdf created in Word 2010

When creating a pdf with shaded table cells using MS Word 2010; the black lines in the shaded table cells do not show up when looking at the page at a fit page view (anything under  around 60%). They print, they are there when I zoom in, but will not show up if you zoom out.
I read a forum post in Adobe here which gave some really logical suggestions, but they didn't seem to work for everyone or the level of effort was not what i can put into it. I also tried some of those and variations of those; but they didn't seem to work.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/305508
Did anyone come up with a solution? Some people were saying it's a bug in pdf software, if that is the case, has anyone heard of a resolution?
I'm using Windows 7 and word 2010 btw, to create the pdf.
    Thanks!!

Just as a test, have you tried the MS plugin for PDF creation? I have found with other versions of WORD and Acrobat that PDF Maker and the MS plugin can both fill in dots and dashes on vector graphics (basically what the border is) and yet it comes out correctly with printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Unfortunately I do not have a solution. In my case, it seemed to be related to the vector graphic itself (I could import it to InkScape or other vector graphic tool and save to EMF and it then worked fine. It may be something that MS themselves have messed up in OFFICE 2013. Good luck.

  • Can I Place an Image in a Table Cell?

I have a table in ID CS3. Can I place an image in one, or more than one, table cell? I see a place to manage fills, but don't see an option for images.

I am working on a calendar project and variously want to: (1) put an individual image in a box, (2) put a continuous image behind more than one box like two dates side by side, (3) put a continuous image in multiple boxes that although they constitute a multiple of boxes, might not be rectangular, (4) put text over any or all of the preceeding.
I can places gridlines on the page, create text and image boxes for for each date, and the join the images boxes as necessary. Then for the box lines I could use an empty table or I could draw them individually and group them. This would get me what I want. I just thought this might be done easier with a table.

  • Text Field over Text in Table Cell

When I drag a new text field to a table cell that contains text the field automatically fills the cell and overwrites the text.  Can I put a field over the text in a specific position and how do I do it?  (See Screen shot)

Thank you for the idea bruce.  I did try that and tried it again just now.  I've attached a screenshot of the result.  It fills the cell and gives me a blue outline with no resizing nodes.  I must be missing something on how to resize the subform.  Any more ideas?

  • Margin in Table cell is way too big

First off, thanks again to Apple for Pages 2. I like having all the different functions, that is -- word processing, page layout, spreadsheet, charts, basic graphics, photo manipulation in one window. I mean, why open up a bunch of windows when it can all be done in one. Less real estate and less clicks. I like it.
But, there is a problem I hope Apple will fix in the next update of Pages.
I was experimenting. Trying to make a Table look more like a standard spreadsheet. I wanted to size the cells more in keeping with what you have in Appleworks or Excel. Problem is, you can't FILL UP the cell with text, that is, text from line to line of cell. A font sized to fill the cell gets chopped off. There is some kind of a margin between the cell boarder lines and the text. It would be great if Apple took away this margin that clips my text.
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hello How Goes It,
select the cells you want to have no margin and choose the text inspector of the infopalette and the text tab button. At the bottom is a slider and a number field. There you can adjust the margin thickness.
    Frank.

Then you have your code set up incorrectly because the css
    that you have
    provided should work.
Can you provide a link to the page in question or supply the
    full
code/css of the table in which these links are inserted.
