Granting priviledge to objects in different databases

hey all,
I wanted to know if there is a way to grant an insert priviledge to a user in a different database. I have one user in environment A(so his connection information is johndoe@A). In A, there is a table that I need to give insert priviledge to to janedoe@B. Is there a way to do this? If so then do let me know how to go about it.
Thanks.

I assume that you are talking about different databases here, and not different schemas in the same database (if you're a SQL Server developer, you may well mean different schemas rather than different databases).
In order for Jane to be able to operate on objects in another database, you would need to have created a database link between the systems. If Jane has access to that database link, she will connect to database A as either a particular user of database B, in which case she would have whatever privileges are granted to the that user in database B, or as herself, in which case there would need to be a Jane account on database A.

  • Offline database and generating objects to different databases

I created an offline database with my objects, I can change them and push them back to the DB I got them from, but I cannot figure out how to push changes to a different database. I see where I can push to a different schema. I want to use the offline DB to maintain all my tables, and push the changes to a Test, Stage, QA DB's when I want but cannot find where to push the changes to a different database.

  • How to add two different database connections on Model

    Hi,
In my application, I need to create View Objects on different databases. So I need to add two different database connections on the Model.
But it seems like Model can be connected to only one database. I tried adding another project to add the second db connection. But after I created a read-only View Object in the second project, it didn't generate corresponding data control in the Data Controls panel.
Could anyone help me on this?
    Thanks!

Do you mean adding the second project folder in ViewController->Project Properties->Libraries and Classpath?Yes, either that or: ViewController -> Project Properties -> Dependencies
And I didn't see the first Model project in the ViewController classpath. Otherwise it wouldn't work. The first model project IS in 'classpath'. Here's how:
ViewController -> Project Properties -> Dependencies
I tried this and recreated the View Object. Still didn't generate the datacontrol. No idea why you had to recreate the VO.
Is your VO in an application module inside the SECOND project?
After you are sure that everything is in the ViewController's classpath, just try restarting JDeveloper.
This is very basic. has to work.

  • UNION on two views in Different databases

    Hi All,
Could you please help me in sorting out this requirement.
We have two views in one database and two more views in another database. Now I want to create one view which should give the union of all these four views. We have DB links. Is it possible? If yes please send me the script.
    Thanks in advance to all.
    Thanks & Regards
    Rajesh Amathi

    Hi and welcome to OTN.
please refer to Oracle books, your question is simple and also a few hard explained.
You can use union, union all, intersec and of course many join methods. Which one is for you, you should decide it, or let us know what exactly do you need.
If objects separated different databases, of course db link is necessary.
    example of creation view:
    CREATE VIEW sample_view AS
    SELECT e1.Ename, e2.Empno, e1.Deptno
    FROM table1 t1, table2 t2, table3@remotedb t3, table4@remotedb t4
WHERE t1.id = t2.id and t3.id=t4.id; --you can join all tables as you want
to overview of view please refer to : http://www.dba-oracle.com/concepts/views.htm

  • Merge different databases 10.2.0 in single database

We have different database, DatabaseA size is about 135GB and DatabaseB size is about 117GB. I want to merge both database in a single database by moving datafiles. Pl suggest, it is possible if yes, how?
    Thanks,
    Regards,

Warning before merging databases you need to look at certain factors especially those related to security.  One or both databases may hold sensitive data.  The application on one may run as the owner and the owner may have the DBA role.  The owner password may be widely known so by merging the databases you are effectively granting DBA access to your other system to a wide range of people.
You also need to check for the same owning usernames (schema) objects existing.  You have to check for the possibility of public synonym conflicts.
Also make sure both Oracle's are the same edition.  You would not want to try to move an application running against the Enterprise edition to running against the standard edition without making a detailed check of the features in use.
For migrating database data from database A on machine A to database B on machine B besides traditional export./import processing you likely have the option of using the transportable tablespace feature to allow copying the files rather than actually moving the object DDL/data.  This approach would likely be faster.

  • Different database connection or proxy user change

    Hi forms guys,
in everyday life I am fulltime DBA, so please forgive my spare forms word pool.
Our users open a forms application that displays a menu with forms applications the user has access to. Users can then click on the menu items and another form pops up. Now having reviewed the code, I can say that the opening of the new forms is done by calling the builtin OPEN_FORM. As parameter "SESSION_MODE" for this function, "SESSION" is supplied. If I understand correctly, this means that another session using THE SAME username/password/connectionstring is created (for the purpose of parallel transactions in parent and child form).
At the moment each and every user (~400) has it's own database account which has roles (depending on the applications they are granted access to) assigned and also sometimes owns dblinks and synonyms. We want to get rid of them by storing the credentials in OID and just create ONE single application user for every application we host. This user shall contain all nescessary objects such as dblinks and private synonyms.
The enduser then logs in using the proxy mechanism. For example if user XYZ (defined in OID) wants to start application ABC, then he/she connects like XYZ[ABC_APPUSER]/XYZPASSWD. This must occur when the form opens, directly after the OPEN_FORM call.
Now my question: Is this possible somehow? Is there a way to have different database connections within a single forms window, if there are different forms? Or is it possible to make a switch to another proxy user within forms? e.g. JDBC has the ability to quickly switch to an other proxy user, without having to re-establish the whole session.
All I have read so far tells me, that it is not possible. But I would really like to hear that acknowledged by experts. Also other, perhaps better ideas for our intention are welcome.
    Kindest regards
    Matschbirne

Not really sure how to answer your question other than to say that from within your form's pl/sql you can connect and disconnect as often as you like programatically. However, you can only have one connection at a time (as far as I know). So if you connect as SCOTT and later want to do a login as FRED, you can do so, but SCOTT will no longer be connected.
Forms does support using Oracle SSO, but for the most part cannot directly access OID. Also, the db login information needed by Forms (when using SSO) is stored in a RAD (Remote Access Descriptor) in OID. The RAD behavior is unique to Forms and Reports. For each SSO user there is a related RAD. At the moment, there is no provided way to have RAD groups (e.g. Admin, Sales, Guests, etc). So each user get their own RAD.
If you are using Forms 11.1.x, Forms now supports db proxy users.
More information about SSO and Proxy users with Forms can be found in the Forms Deployment Guide:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24269_01/doc.11120/e24477/sso.htm
In the code, you can control the connection using the LOGON, LOGOUT, and LOGON_SCREEN built-ins. Refer to the Forms Builder online help for details on how to use these.

  • Creation of a complex object from several databases?

    Hello!
We need to have an ability to change certain property of the record, stored in the database, without reading the full record from the database, changing the property and updating the database with this new record. As far as I know there's no way for partial access to the record data (LOB access section from FAQ), so I am thinking in a bit different way - what if we keep the information of certain record in the different databases, and when we need to update some property of the record knowing the key - we will just update the appropriate database? This looks something similar to secondary databases when the secondary key is an alias for primary record - but in this case primary key would be referenced from several databases and it would be possible to specify which data from which database to obtain using the key?
I think it could be created based on several custom object bindings now, or something like this.

    Eugene,
If you update properties in different combinations and there is no logical way to group them to reduce the size of the operations, then it's not worth splitting up the record. That's up to you to determine.
JE SecondaryDatabase and SecondaryCursor methods have overloaded signatures for returning the secondary key, primary key, and primary data, all in one method call. So I think you're confused about the method signatures -- the data parameter is always used to return the primary data.
Note that internally whenever you read via a secondary, JE does two reads: one to read the secondary index and get the primary key, and another to read the primary index.
There is no trick to get around doing multiple reads when you have relationships between different databases. Each primary and secondary database is an index or map (conceptually the same as a java.util.Map) that can be accessed by key or by iterating. Whatever you do must be built on top of map operations.
The best way to think about data modeling is to think about maps and their keys, and the best way to think about how to do a query is to break it down into map operations. I say this because most Java programmers are familiar with maps and map operations, because java.util.Map is commonly used.
The DPL (persist package) makes data modeling simpler to code and understand, because annotations can be used describe relationships between indexes. When using the DPL it is very clear that for every secondary index there is a secondary key, and that entity relationships are formed via secondary keys. However, the DPL model is still based on maps and map operations.

  • Deployment to runtime repository in different database hangs

    Hi All
I am facing an issue while deploying to a runtime repository in different database.
I have created a simple mapping, taking data from one schema available in database where OWB is installed, to schema available in different database.I am changing the configuration to the control center available on target database.
source module is associated with control center available on design repository and target module is associated with control center available on runtime repository.
In control center manager, the message displayed at toolbar is "compiling deployment object"..after sometime OWB hangs and nothing happens.
What could be possible reason for that?
    Thanks in advance

  • CAF Business Objects in Separate Database

We currently have an application written in CAF which is using Business Objects/Entity Services using local persistence. I believe the local persistence automatically uses the default datasource defined in the SAP WAS portal server and creates the tables in that database.
The requirement is to have that CAF application data stored in a different database instead of the portal database. There are ways to install a separate datasource in the SAP WAS server to point to a different database, but I don't know how to make CAF Business Objects use that newly installed datasource, or whether it is possible?
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi,
it seems I've to achieve that by using associations.
But how should the Scenario look for my example?
    The relation is the following:
Each application has exactly one division.
    Is it correct like that?
DIVISION: Association to APPLICATION ("DivisionApplication"), CROSS_BO, ONE_TO_MANY
BO APPLICATION: Association to DIVISION ("ApplicationDivision"), CROSS_BO, NONE_TO_ONE
    Another question:
I can now add an association to APPLICATION  through the service browser by choosing the association name "ApplicationDivision" and putting the 32 digit the DIVISION that I want to associate.
Is that the only way to do it in service browser?
As this is impossible for business users, do I have to create a WD for them to maintain those values in an easier way?
    Thanks.

  • Bug: showing data in tables with same name, 2 different databases

    Hi,
two connections, to databases "a" & "b". Both logged into the same schema, "s".
If you select table "t" in db "a" and then select the same table in db "b", the tab is not refreshed - you have to either select a different object first, or explicitly hit refresh.
    regards,
    William

I can reproduce this consistently on 9.2.0.1.
You need to have connections to the same schema in two different databases and the schemas must have the same table.
1 Open connection in schema 1
2 Select the table in the Tables node
    3 Select the Data tab
4 Open connection to schema 2
5 Select the table in the Tables node (without going to any other tabs or objects)
What should happen is the details of the second table should occupy the main display tab and the data tab should be refreshed to show the data of the new table.
What actually happens is the main display tab apparently switches to the table in the new connection as shown by the tooltip (table@connection_name), but the data in the data tab stays the same. Refresh doesn't seem to work, only switching to a different object and back again.
The columns tab does seem to refresh properly.

  • SSDT Schema Compare keeps showing the same objects as different..

    Hi,
When comparing a database to my project using Visual Studio 2012 SSDT I get several stored procedures marked as changed. The body of the procedures is identical, but two properties are highlighted as different when expanding the object:
IsSelf (false on the DB vs true on the project) and User  (dbo on the DB, needs to be added to the project).
The procedures have the option "with execute as self" both in the database and in the project as part of the body.
I have not found what needs to be done so these differences are applied to the project and never appear again. Tried changing some options on the schema compare but didn't found one that help.
Some forum suggested dropping the objects and re-creating them but I don't want to loose the history of changes on TFS.
    Any suggestions?

  • How to do mappings in owb with different databases

    hi all,
I have two different databases with in same server one for staging and target.
How to connect both target and staging databses to do the mappings using OWB??
Is it possible?? if possible how to do the mappings??
    for ex:
Now i registered my OWB with bcp database for both staging tables and target tables.
now i want to load data of staging tables into bcpsource database and
target tables into bcptarget database seperatly.

10gR2 does have connectors. They were introduced at the same time as locations.
The connection attributes (eg host, port, tnsname) are set against the location, not the connector. A connector simply defines the fact that there is a path from one location to another (eg via a database link). All the connection information remains on the location object.
The process flow packages within a location can each be deployed on their own simply by selecting the location in the Control Center Manager, and setting a deployment action against the package (or by using scripting, as mentioned). However, a process flow cannot be deployed independently of it's package - it's all or nothing.
    Nigel.

  • Moving objects into different tablespaces

    Hi Gurus,
    Here is my query .
I have 40gb space to have dataset from production database.
Test enviornment will be refreshed with production database.
From testing enviornment development will be refreshed to aviod any connections to production.
As part of data copying to dev env is depending on the conditions given by business.
    So my question comes here
Initially I will be dumpring all the data to one tablespace in one tablespace of development environment.
It could take 39 to 40GB.
Now i want to move objects into different tablespaces accoring to storage clause and no of records .
New tablespaces will be created in development enviornment and will be created in same 40GB.
Space is constraint in dev env and cann't be extended.
How can i create tablespaces into the dev env and move objects into them?
I hope you understood my queries ...
    In simple
    TESTING ENV - - - -- - - - > DEV ENV(Initially one tablespace for all tables/objects) - - -- -- ---- >DEV ENV(Objects in diiferent tablespaces )

    You say:
While creating scripts of tables we are removing all tablespace names as we will be having 3 tablespaces at target that is also after loading the data into them.Don't remove the TS clause, but replace the TS so-and-so with TS that-and-that.
    Or replace tablespaces a, b and c with x+, and d* and e with y*+.
This can be automated, but you will have to write some logic for that.
Because ... we will be having only 3 tablespaces in DEV. ex NEWYORK tablespace is in production but it won't be created in DEv , istead all the objects into that tablespace will be moved to large table space.
As I said: You will need a code which greps for TS NEWYORK* and replaces it with +<your_big_TS>+.
So once again: Where is the problem?
It's just a question of coding.
