Graph parabola in flash?

I need to create a parabola between 3 points which are
controlled by a slider:
the two points where the parabola crosses the x plane
the y location of the vertex of the parabola
I've tried adapting the code in:

but that doesn't let you set the x points.
I've got the code to set the location of the 3 points, but
not sure what formula/convention I can use to draw the parabola
between the points and have the ends extend across the grid?
Anyone have any idea what formula I might use?

Why is this weird graph plaguing my Flash slideshows?

Hi there,
I have a variety of slideshows that are operated by Adobe Flash featured on my Smugmug website, which in turn feature my photo galleries. A few days ago, this weird moving graph showed up on my gallery slideshows and apparently it remains unseen to all except me on my Mac. I've asked for help in the Smugmug forum, run virus scans, uninstalled & reinstalled the latest version of Adobe Flash, and it still shows up. It is not trying to install Flash Player. Flash Player itself is spyware and malware.
No it isn't, it's buggy plug-in software for your web browser from Adobe. You should only download it from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ or allow it to update itself. A new update was just released a day or two ago and Apple blocked the use of any older versions yesterday. There were Trojans disquised as FlashPlayer installers over a year ago, so perhaps that is what you are thinking about.

Using graph in forms 10g

I am using FormsGraph in forms 10g.
Now I need additional options - more visualized graph and dynamic graph - like in Flash.
Is there a way to achieve that using a java bean?
Is it possible to use flash inside a form window?

[Stage3D] Flash Player 11 Performance Issue

Hey people!
I’m currently writing my dissertation for my Bachelor of Arts or Science.
For this dissertation I compare Flash with Unity with a performance test. I used Away3D for the Flash applications and draw graphs.
Now I have results which are very strange.
Please take a look at the embed picture.
There you can see Unity make an smooth graph, while the Flash-Graph appears in a stairway.
Did anyone know why this happens? Is this why Flash clear the temporary RAM only if the limit reached?!
I need this for my analysis. So if anyone have an idea, please tell me.
It's not important that in this graph, Unity is better. After this Graph I find some things I have to equal. So it's just about this "stairway".
My application works as follows:
Every 0,5 seconds I’m adding an Object (992 Polys or 5288 Polys..depends on the object i choose for the test) on the stage.
I automaticly add 17 in a horizontal row and 7 in a vertical row.
After this I multiply my z-coordinate so I can add as many objects in depth.
Every 25 objects I write the FPS and the object-count in the database to create these graphs.
I also append an defuse shader to the Objects an rotate them around the y-Axis to higher the activity of my processor and graphic card.
Further Information:
The only other things on my Stage are the camera-object and a pointlight.
The pointlight and the far clippingplane have an depth of 10.000 to render objects if there are more than 3000 on the stage.
I’ve activated mipmapping and 2x Antialaising.
Batchrendering is deactivated in Flash and in Unity.

Videocard performance is often limited by bottlenecks. When you exceed the available resources in any particular step of the priceline you suddenly go from what was one pass to two, and subsuquently you see performance dropoffs in cliffs rather than gradual decline.
That said, mismanagment of resource allocation is probably the cause. If you send me the swf I can give you detailed perfomance information and identify the culprit. (I'd like to know, too =)

Problems printing flash content

I'm having problems when trying to print a web page with flash content. Its a .NET system that has a Master Page and a graph generated in flash. When I print the page, only the Master Page's content appears. If I click on the print context menu, only the flash graph appears. What I need is both of them printed, Master Page and the graph.

This is a HUGE problem. It has been a problem for some time - several of the issues are marked as "resolved" but with no indication of how they were resolved or in which version they were resolved. In any event this is an old problem that has been made much worse by version 10.1. Previously I experienced the problem in all browsers except IE, so I always had the option of going to IE to print (clumsy but workable). Since Version 10.1, printing from IE doesn't work either - most browsers show a blank where the Flash content should be, while IE shows the content scaled to ~ 10% actual size.
Please don't advise me to go back to version 9 - the Flash Player version I use is pushed by my organization's IT dept. so I now have no work-around.

Can I make the animation in Inside Job with Adobe Flash?

Hello Flash users,
I want to create animations like the ones in the documentary Inside Job with shapes, texts and graphs with Adobe Flash CS6. Am I using the right tool?
Some of the effects I fail to achieve with flash are:
1. Making images pop out with a flip
2. Making texts pop out in order, from left to right
3. Making an arrow with animated extention
I'm begining to believe I'm using the wrong tool.

AE is far easier than Flash to animate in. They support nesting as well but they call it a "sub composition" or subcomp. Any layer you right-click on can be turned into a subcomp. You can think of them as MovieClips. Go inside any subcomp and it's a whole new timeline. Use it to organize your project.
Outside that the arrow in that is a simple means of revealing, just like you'd do it in Flash (only perhaps easier).
You'd mask out the area you want the arrow to appear in. To animate the arrow coming in (only in the masked area) just animate the X property (just like Flash) as well as the mask to keep it in place. The text being revealed as the arrow goes by is the same thing, a mask revealing it as the arrow goes by.
Some of the extra glamour going on there is they added a gradient to the arrow which you do after you get the basics in place repeating all the same techniques, just masking the gradient to the arrow, etc.
You shouldn't really try to compete with a polished AE composer right to start. Get your basics in place first. This program is fairly professional grade so you can't expect amazing results from a few days of experimenting.
Don't get overwhelmed with the functionality of AE. You really only need 1% of it to pull this video off, the very basics.
What version of AE do you use?
Here's a quick example of a basic arrow along the gradient lines of what you have without animating any gradient, just animating the arrows coming in from the left side. Notice I'm keyframing the mask AND the position of the arrow. This should give you a general idea of using masks to reveal (notice the mask feather setting as well).

I think that is not possible in obiee 11g, since obi renders graph as a flash object..
You can't create a text box over flash object unless the text box is created in the flash.

Printing SWF files as part of HTML page

Hi,
Can anyone help? I have created a bar graph application in
Flash (Flash player 7 or later), that is part of a XHTML page. When
I press print, within the web browser the XHTML page, the Flash bar
graph part of the page doesn't print.
Does anyone know why this is? And ideally offer some some
solutions.

Multiple presentation servers using the same RPD

Hi everyone,
So as most people know, the iPhone has a cool app that allows you to login and look at your OBIEE content. In theory it's really cool, but as it turns out, a lot of the cool graphs default to Flash and Flash is not supported by the iPhone.
Using a flag in the instance config file, its possible to default all graphs to png's instead of Flash. But that causes all the interactive drillability to go away since it's just a flat picture.
It seems that an elegant solution to this issue would be to have two presentation services running; one that defaults to Flash and one that defaults to png's. Then let the OC4J container determine if the device accessing the website is a mobile device or a full client browser. Mobile devices get routed to the png's and non-mobile devices go to the standard Flash page.
Although not supported by Oracle, it is possible to setup multiple presentation services on the same server. In fact, RNM has a great blog about how to accomplish this (http://rnm1978.wordpress.com/2009/08/25/multiple-rpds-on-one-server-part-1-the-bi-server/).
I was able to setup two presentation services (AnalyticsWeb and AnalyticsMobile) and point them at the same catalog folder. That way you don't have to duplicate you're work.
The one thing I couldn't figure out how to do was to point them at the same RPD file. Ideally, we would have one rpd file with the master metadata definitions, and both presentation services would drive from that single RPD. However, the BI Server throws and error of the same RPD appears twice in the NQSConfig.ini file. I also created a shortcut to the master RPD, but upon startup, the BI Servers said that it was not a valid repository file.
Worst case scenario, I could just use copy & paste to duplicate the single repository. And then each time I updated one, I would just need to delete the other and re-copy. But that seems a little tedious and I was hoping for a more elegant solution.
Does anyone know how I could get the NQSConfig.ini to let me point to the same RPD twice? Is there some kind of symbolic link or image I could create?
If it helps, I'm working with OBIEE 10.1.3.4 on a Windows Server 2003 environment with the OC4J standalone container.

The javascript gets the USER agent variable and does a regular expression match to see if it's any popular handheld device. If so, it redirects them to the mobile address. Otherwise the user is directed to the standard site.
All I need to do is pass around the URL:
http://localhost:9704/OBIEE.html (instead of the standard http://localhost:9704/analytics)
And users will be dynamically sent to the correct location.

Embedding SWF in a text field

Hi, New user to Flash here with a problem embedding .SWF
files. I have already existing SWF files that I have called
historically from HTML using <object> to embed the object and
<param name= value=> also to pass it information. The SWF
movie I need to embed basically builds a graph and takes its data
from the location you supply it in <param name= value=>
field. This code is not mine and I can't alter it.
What I want to do is construct a flash version of my site and
embed these graphs within a flash textfield. I have been able to
successfully embed a test SWF file using <img> tags on a text
field ---> but here is my question. How do I support the
<param name= value=> functionality I got when I called these
graphs from HTML using <object>?
I hope that's clear? Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

That does work, but it's about the closest you'll get, I'm
afraid. It's
only happenstance that Flash's very narrow (and somewhat
unique) version of
HTML accepts SWFs in an <img> tag.

Flash only supports a very limited subset of the HTML
language. You can
see the full list of supported tags by searching the phrase
"supported tags"
in the documentation (specifically, the Learning ActionScript
2.0 in Flash
book). For better or worse, <object>, <param>,
and <embed> are simply not
in that list.

I've wanted to blog in the past, but I've got a pesky contract that says anything I blog about is my company's property (which doesn't sit too well with me). So I opted to help people in the public forum instead, that way others can read it and pass it around. So feel free to re-post this anywhere you want to.
High-level: My approach was to create two Answer Requests, Sparkline Graph and Sparkline Pivot table. In OBIEE, the charts/graphs are embedded flash objects. My goal was to put a place holder embed tag for the sparkline graph in the pivot table and then use javascript to update the embed tag SRC attribute based upon an xmlHTTPRequest to the Sparkline Graph.
Keep in mind, I programmed and tested on Mozilla. I just tested on IE and it doesn't work. Some of the xmlHTTPRequest commands need to be tweaked for cross platform compliance. I'll work on that when I get some free time, but meanwhile, feel free to go over this.
Part 1)
a) Create your Sparkline Graph first. In the screen shot I posted above, my graph metric is filtered on a plant-by-plant basis and projects the given measure over a calendar year, by month.
b) Make sure you size it small. I moved the sliders to the first mark on both the horizontal and vertical.
c) Remove any markings like grid-lines, titles, etc, to your liking.
d) Save this request and note the name and the full request path
Part 2)
a) Create your pivot table report. As you can see, I pivot by month and each row is based on the Plant number. What ever your graph is prompted on, you need those fields in the row of the pivot table.
b) Go into the formatting on your column that makes up the pivot row, in my case it's Plant Name, and add the following custom CSS style: font-family:Sparkline. This lets the javascript find what value to pass to the detail report.
c) Create your sparkline column (i.e. add any column to the report). Format it as HTML and put the following into it. '<embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" name="sparkline" width="100" height ="60" wmode="transparent" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" src=""/>'
d) Copy and paste the following javascript into a static text object with HTML enabled. You will need to change the path of the request in the URL variable to your particular Sparkline graph path. Search for "chart_url" in the code. This uses standard GO URL syntax. In my case the path is "/users/administrator/Java%20Script%20Test/Sparkline%20Detail" and the column is "Scorecard.Plant". Replace those values as appropriate in your situation. The rest of the code should be fine as is. It basically looks for all the values tagged with the font-family:Sparkline and makes calls to your graph report. It then parses that call and pulls EMBED tag and gets the SRC attribute. It finally updates all those place holders with the appropriate SRC value.

Printing DVT Components

So, I'm getting together some estimates for using a few dvt: components (pieGraph, horizontalBar graph, etc...) using 11.1.1.3 and was wondering if there is an easy way to make these graphs printable? I know that you can make them printable via firefox 3.6 by setting the imageFormat="PNG" but I would like to continue to use the default flash versions of the graphs if possible since they're the prettiest (yes, I know how shallow of me).
Is there a way to make these graphs printable without having to use the imageFormat="PNG" flag (or without having to add a "print this screen" button?

Flash doesn't print - so you'll have to convert them to PNG - if you prefer to have your graphs display in flash then the only option is to add a button to your page that uses the af:showPrintableBehavior tag to make the graph switch to png and print.

Scorecards on Oracle BI iPad App

Hello everyone,
The scorecard trees cannot be viewed with the last version of Oracle BI iPad App. The analysis graphs, originally in Flash too, work fine though.
Do you have any idea how to address this issue?
I am thinking about retrieving the scorecard data using web services and drawing the trees by myself, but are there such web services? Or an API? Or maybe directly read the files where the scorecards are stored?

Problems with Flash Line Graphs

I have two problems with the new Flash Line Graphs in APEX 3.1
1. I have created a query that returns a set number of rows. Sometimes the VALUE for a specific row might be null. When this occurs the LABEL data does not show up on the X axis. I want the LABEL data to show up no matter what. How do I accomplish this?
2. Related to the above query. When the VALUE field is null for 3 records (or more) in a row, not only does the LABEL data for those records not display, the VALUE and LABEL data for the records that appear in the set after these 3 records also do not display. If one or even two null VALUE fields appears in a row, things are still OK. What do I need to do to get all my data to display?
Any help would be appreciated.

Doing my InDesign graphs in Flash instead of Illustrator

Hello!
Illustrator's graph tool sucks. It's like a remnant from the early 90s. For instance, because I require my graphs to look a bit more pro than the default - every time my data changes - I have to redesign all my graphs from scratch.
So I was thinking, would it be feasible creating these graphs in Flash with AS3 instead? Could I generate them based on data from an external XML file? Would I still be able to load them into InDesign and ultimately export them to PDF?

Whaaaat? me thinks you need to check out more about illy's graphs.... namely Graph Design (replacing say a bar with more or fewer 'apples,people, whatever') also if you save graphic styles modifying a graph again and again is quick and easy...
