Graphical Shutdown Screen to text

How do I get a text based shutdown screen instead of the current graphical one?
IOW, it doesn't work. It looks like some kind of graphic is displayed on shutdown which I'm guessing is similar to the startup screen.
On startup you can press escape to exit and go to a text based screen. Is there something similar on shutdown. I can't read the screen because it's garbled.
The driver is i915 if it makes a difference.

Annoying as heck how much Linux is in Solaris now-a-days.....I have an Asus EeePC w/ Solaris 11 11/11 installed. Here's how I fixed that;
Disabling Splash Screen on Boot-up
Edit your /boot/grub/menu.lst section and add the following "-B" option;
kernel$ /platform/i86pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix -B $ZFS-BOOTFS,console=force-text
Disabling Splash Screen on Shutdown
# svccfg -s svc:/system/boot-config:default setprop config/splash_shutdown = false
# svcadm refresh svc:/system/boot-config:default

Any external monitors as good as imac screen for text?

hi all.
this is my first mac. it's a new 21.5inch imac with a 2.7ghz i5 proc running OS X 10.7.3 and 12 Gigs of RAM (8 Gigs from crucial for $50, who can resist?)
i've got it hooked up to an external samsung syncmaster B2330 running in 1920x1080, which is this monitor's native resolution. works fine. it's hooked up via the dvi port on the screen via the mini-displayport to dvi adapter for the mac. i switch this monitor to the vga port when i want to use it as my pc monitor also running at 1920x1080. there is a source button on the monitor. very convenient.
the issue is that they text on this screen when coming from the mac is not as clear was when coming from the pc despite the fact that the vga port provides much less bandwidth than the dvi port the mac uses. i've read that the mac and the pc display text on screen using different methods. my pc uses an nvidia display graphics card. i believe mac use ati based hardware.
there appears to be much more interpolation when displaying text from the mac. perhaps this is a text size issue i'm not sure. either way i read a lot on this monitor and need it to be as good as possible for that purpose.
so the question is, does anyone have experience with an external monitor that is as good as the imac screen for text display. i can't use the thuderbolt display or a cinema display since they don't switch to different ports allowing my to use a single external monitor for two machines. i'm willing to spend up if there is a reason to do so. i'm on these computers a lot. i work from home with some regularity and my job is all about reading.

I have an dell 24" lcd as 2ed monitor and text look as clear as the imacs screen
but it having a t-nfilm lcd panel vs. the imacs ips panel the colour and contast look worse
but text look as clear
and it look the same when I boot up in win7 using bootcamp

PDF looks fine on screen but text does not print

PDF created from Word looks fine on screen but text does not print (graphics do). Alos loses text on FTP or Email. Windows 8.1 64bit. Acrobat XI Std. Word2013. Print to PDF from Word 600dpi, use doc fonts, download as softfont. Arial, calibrai - all fonts lost. Same issue as Phillipio61 and alacker2?.

Problem not with all fonts. Problem with arial and calibri fonts - maybe others. Times New Roman, gil sans, viner are OK for example.

My iPhone 5 only display the apple screen with text on the top (like a command prompt). Has anyone else seen this???

I was checking my mail and suddenly i get the apple screen with text on the top (like a command prompt). It won't receive phone calls and it doesn't respond to anything. Try a reboot by holding both the power and ome buttons until the apple logo appears. If that does not bring it back, take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians test it.

We can change the Text of a Pushbutton dynamically.
For this:
1. Declare a Global variable with the Same name as the Button in TOP include
Eg: Data: Button1(30).
2. In the PBO module of the Screen assign the Text to this variable:
 Eg:
 Module set_text OUTPUT.
 Button1 = 'This is the text'.
 ENDMODULE.
REWARD IF HELPFUL.

Clearing of console is an OS specific command, so
in case of Windows you should try:
Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cls");Though it wouldn't help, because exec() will be done as a separate

Hmmm... I seem to have found the plist file that is doing it. I was looking at /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/Remote\ Desktop/ before... looks like /Library/Preferences/com.apple.ARDAgent.plist is the culprit.
This plist is a binary, so I had to use plutil to convert to xml in order to make it human readable. I wonder if I can just hack this file up a bit and re-deploy it to each machine. Or I wonder if it would re-build if I simply remove it from each client. I will need to test to find out, seeing as though the task servers are listed in it, probably not a good idea to remove it all the way.

Hi,
Create one Search Help in the SE11 for the particular Field that u want to display. In the Screen(Transaction SE51),For that Text Box in the Attributes,in Dict Tab ->Search Help Field give that Search Help Name.
For Eg,
If u want Purchase Order Numbers in that F4 Help.Create one Search Help by giving Table Name as EKKO & Search Help Parameter as EBELN with Lpos & Rpos as 0 & 1.Save & Activate it.
Give this Search Help Name in Dict Tab ->Search Help Field of that Screen Attributes.

Help! Screening of text when QuarkXpress converts to PDF

Files we receive for printing from QuarkXpress 7 application files converted to PDF format from within QuarkXpress, often have the text screened. We are printing to digital B&W and color printers as well as a CTP (Computer-to-plate) server. All devises exhibit the same screening characteristics. Adobe tech support can give me no explanation as to why the screening might be occuring. We have both Mac and PC platforms and use SC3 Professional software with the most current updates. The screening shows up on both platforms. Any ideas as to why the screening of text and how to overcome this problem?

If the text is screened (turned to an image) in the pdf then you'll need to go back to the quark file and sort it there. Quark7 will turn many text/vector objects to pixel based images upon output simply due to the stacking order of the objects. Bring all the vector stuff to the top.
One more thing to check for, is that Distiller (or Jaws) is configured to ignore OPI comments. Turning off the OPI XT can be a good start.

Black screen with text LOGIN what to do?

A few years ago I gave my oldest nephew my old G3 iBook when I purchased my G4 iBook. The G3 iBook work fine for him for several years. A few weeks ago the G3 iBook started taking forever to load/startup. I was eventually able to get it to read the original CD with software and loaded OS X 10 on the G3 iBook. Since all he used it for was iTune and Internet, I attempted to reload TIGER 10.3. Though it literal took all day Thursday for G3 iBook to load 10.3, it has gone back to black screen with text LOGIN:
I seem to remember going through a similar problem when I purchased my G5 iMac several years ago, but have forgotten the solution.
Yes it is old and out of date. BUT I will not be buying another iBook till 2008. However he "needs" a solution between now and then. His father (my brother) purchased him a $400 PC from Wal-Mart that does function, but I have never had to use a PC. And though he can decode how to use iTune and navigate the internet on the PC. Thumb drive and his Sony PSP show up on the desktop on a Mac as a hardrive. Neither appear as anything on his PC

Stupid question in addition I have an old G4 Desktop that is also 800 mhz yet it radically faster then the G3 iBook. Why?

My 13 year old nephew is not the most organized. I gave him the original software CDs but he know longer remember where he placed them. The OS X 10 CD say iBook on them but not G4 or G3 and are more then likely belong to my G4 iBook. Those appear to work. 10.3 is an upgrade CD. I assume it is okay BECAUSE I no longer use 10.3 on any of my macs in my home.
I seem to remember when purchasing 10.3 CD it was a nightmare to install. One of the problems was that it corrupted the "PRIVILEGES". So around 5PM I restarted the G3 iBook and ran Disk utilities and had it repair the "PRIVILEGES". It has been running 5 hours NOW and is less then half way through repairing them.

Screen Field Text Modification

Hi,
     How can I change the Screen Field Text dynamically? Is there any attribute like Name for Text in the SCREEN table?
ex: on certain condition, the text should be "Override Assignment" and another the text of the field should be "Manual Assignment"
         Please help me in this regard.

Limit to Custom Screen Reader Text for 508 Compliance

I am converting forms for a government Agency. The forms must be Section 508 compliant. Some pages of the forms are full pages of instructional text. I am using a single field to contain all of the accessibility text so that I can control the flow of information through the tab order with limited additional tabbing from the original version. I am adding all of the text in a Jaws friendly format into the Custom Screen Reader Text field under the Accessibility tab in the Object window. When I test the form, Jaws stops reading the Accessibility text about 980 characters in. The only way to get it to read the text in its entirety is to use the down arrow key, which forces the Jaws reader to read it line by line. This is not desirable. Has anyone else experienced this? Why is there a seemingly arbitrary limit to how much Accessibility text that can be passed to Jaws?
I am using Livecycle 7.1 and testing in Acrobat Professional 7 and Adobe Reader 8 with Dynamic PDF 7.0.5.

An associate in the field told me this is not a problem with Adobe's product. Rather it is a problem with Jaws. Apparently he has the same problem with Jaws and IBM Workplace Forms.

Shutdown screen and Volume level screens keep popping up

My friends Macbook 13" 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 duo running Os 10.5.8 is having problems. The screen "Are you sure you want to shutdown your computer now ?", keeps popping up. If you click cancel, it will pop up again in a few minutes and remain until some action is taken. Also underneath it, the speaker volume level screen pops up. If you leave the shutdown screen on, the speaker volume screen will continue to pop in and out. I booted from a external drive by USB with Os 10.6.8 and the screens after computer starts, still pop up. ANYONE HAVE SOME INSIGHT ON WHATS CAUSING THIS? I don't think it's software related.

Thanks for your Suggestions BDAqua, but it looks like possibly the top case and keyboard will have to be replaced. I cloned the internal drive to an external drive, and rebooted with the external. Then did a partitioning and clean Os install to the original internal drive. After removing the external and booting off the new software install on the internal, the problem is still there.
