Great, again

Oh great, my Volume Control Panel has screwed up again:
Missing functionality; Crystalizer , where did that option go , what about EAX Normally a reinstall solves this problem, but not this time... Seeing has i've suffered with this for a very, very long time - over many driver versions in fact - (but we all know how infrequent thier driver releases are right.. ) i cannot help but think perhaps this is another intentional fault creativelabs have built into thier drivers to promote thier other products. Just look back at thier behavior in response to Daniel_K....
Creativelabs, This is a complete waste of my time. I did not pay hard-earned money to spend hours reinstalling software you've intentionally crippled, nor do i pay money to be decieved - You've lost all my respect and trust. Inevitably, the better companies will win.

  • IPhone syncs/charges only after restart

Hello. I am having some troubles getting my iPhone to sync or charge when connected to my iMac G5.
The phone will not sync, iTunes doesn't recognize that it is connected, AND it will not charge at all. I can plug it in and unplug it as many times as I want. The only way to get the phone and computer to sync/charge the phone again is to restart the iMac, log-in, and then plug the iPhone back in - then everything works great again for 1 more sync/charge session. If I unplug the phone from the iMac, I have to restart again before my next sync/charge. It has been like this since I upgraded (clean install) to Leopard on the iMac.
    Any ideas? Thanks!
Also, after I restart and log-in I have to start iTunes before plugging in the iPhone otherwise iTunes never automatically launches with the phone is plugged in.
    iMac G5, Leopard 10.5.1 (Clean install), iTunes 7.6, iPhone 8GB 1.1.3

Not sure if this has anything to do with the new download, but Thursday I downloaded the '08 updates (yeah...I am slow getting to it), anyway... while I was downloading the updates my phone of course was charging from the computer. After the download was finished I turned my phone off and plugged the phone into the wall charger. Charged fine... well last night (Saturday) I had to recharge my phone, but once I connected my phone to the wall charger it would not respond and/or start charging. Tried to plug it into the computer and it said my USB port was overloaded. I was ticked... needless to say I tried again this morning with no luck. Left my phone off for a few hours still nothing. Called tech. support and the guy asked me to try it again on the computer and read what the error said to him.....low and behold it started charging... on the pc and then on the wall charger. I have no idea why it started to work. I was happy it did, but has anyone else had this issue?

  • Report generation toolkit (1.1.2) and 8.5

I am not as crazy as I thought!
I wrote a program today that collects data from excel reports in many directories using cell names and it worked well.  Unitl I saved it.  I had been saving the sub vi's, but when I went to close them I got a message about unsaved changes and I guess I clicked to save the changes today.  The program never worked the same again.  I would get errors like 41106 and 41110 at random (problems with excel not opening and other stuff).  I tried adding waits which slowed everything down and worked mostly.  But the only way to not drop data and get errors was to have a copy of excel open while getting my data.
Well I just uninstalled/reinstalled the toolkit and rebuilt the vi that was having problems with the fresh install and everything is great again.  So my question is why does the toolkit have problems when I save it in 8.5?  The warning does say that the vi's are from 7.1 and I cant find any updates so I am hoping this is the latest version that came with my 8.5 suite.

    Hi Bryan,
There should not be a problem with saving the VIs from the Report Generation toolkit in LabVIEW 8.5. I have checked the readme files to make sure but RGT 1.1.2 should work with any version of LabVIEW later than 7.0. However, the readme does discuss an specific upgrade issue. It says if you previously created VIs that use the built-in Report Generation VIs in LabVIEW Professional, Full, or Base packages or VIs from a previous version of the Report Generation Toolkit, installing the Report Generation Toolkit 1.1.2 might break the VIs you created. If the VIs you created contain any of the following VIs, edit them so they are compatible with the Report Generation Toolkit 1.1.2.
Append Front Panel Image to Report VI—The Image Format input of the LabVIEW 6.1 version of this VI is a different enumerated type than the current toolkit version. Right-click the input and select Create»Control or Create»Constant from the shortcut menu to create a compatible control or constant.
Append Table to Report VI—The connector pane position of the show grid lines input changed from the Report Generation Toolkit 1.0.1 version of the VI. Reconnect the original wire to the new input location.
Get Report Settings VI—The cluster order of the font settings input changed from the Report Generation Toolkit 1.0.1 version of the VI. Right-click the output and select Create»Indicator from the shortcut menu to create a compatible indicator.
Report Express VI—If a VI includes the LabVIEW built-in version of the Report Express VI on the block diagram, the VI breaks after you install the Report Generation Toolkit 1.1.2. Double-click the Report Express VI to launch its configuration dialog box, then click the OK button. Reconnect all wires to the Report Express VI.
You might need to relink the following subVIs after installation because the connector panes changed in the Report Generation Toolkit 1.1.2. Right-click the VIs and select Relink to SubVI.
    New Report
    Dispose Report
Append Front Panel Image to Report
Append Hypertext Link Anchor to Report
    Append File to Report
    Append Horizontal Line to Report
    Set Report Font
One thing that might have happened is if you had created the program in an earlier version of the toolkit, then saved it in the new version of the toolkit, maybe some of the upgrade issues regarding the VIs listed aboved cause LabVIEW to start giving you errors. Also, which version of excel are you using? After you re-did the VI program, have you tried to save it again and see if the same problem occurs?

  • Open Directory: user authentication and logining takes a lot of time

We have Mac OS X Server Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with OpenDirectory and some iMacs with Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. After adding Network Account Server in iMacs (System Preferences->Accounts->Login Options->Network Account Server Edit) OD works normally and users authenticate and login their accounts rather fast (5-10 seconds). But some days or weeks later the time for authentication and logining takes for about 5 minutes. If I re-add Network Account Server, then all works greatly again. What's the matter? How to avoid this re-adding?

    Hello,
can you tell us what is the size of this Universe in terms of:
number of tables, number of objects, size of the .unv file?
Also, is this behaviour specific to this universe or you have other universes having the same problem?
Last, are you 'opening it' as in File/Open or importing it as in 'File/Import...' ?

  • Is there a way to delete the elements on the stage that start with / Stage_

I'm not sure when it happened, but I noticed that in edge some of my stage elements have dupes below the list of regular elements. When hovered over they say <div> "NAME_OF_DIV" (static) (NAME_OF_DIV is just meaning that it can have many different names there, but they all start with Stage_)
I've attached a screenshot to show you what I mean
I've blocked out some of the names since the titles are not for public eyes
But you can see what I mean, and the kicker is that some of those elements are getting into my code, so if I target one of them (the real one like "tile_explore" with a compositionReady it's bunging up the works saying it's undefined since Stage_title_explore hasn't been set yet I'm guessing?).
Anyone have any insight as to how I can get rid of those extra ones below, it'd be a life saver (since I'm getting a bunch of text under my main UI that I don't want)
    The Answer!
Answering my own question in case others come about it. At one point I exported as static HTML on one machine, but then loading the file on another didn't retain that option in the publish settings. Also it would seem that it didn't even finish the HTML (didn't close the <body> and <html> tags) so I added those back in after removing all of the static HTML divs and everything is great again!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't remotely delete anything on their device, but if they are logged in, even if they don't know your password, they can continue to receive any new data you add to iCloud. To stop this you should change your password.

  • Time Capsule internet drop-out problem.... Solved (for now....?)

I am new here, but i would like to share my experiences with a problem a lot of people seem to have here aswell.
I got home last week after being abroad for work for two days, and noticed i couldn't get on the internet again. My system uses an iMac, TC and an internet modem i got from my ISP, which is a Motorola modem.
Hooked the TC up to the modem via ethernet and this has been working without a glich for about 2 years now. I first noticed the problem on my iPhone which was unable to get on the internet. Connected to the network just fine, but no internet. Very strange, as i had a solid green light on my TC.
Checked the internet on my iMac, and i found the same problem. Did a reset on the TC and the modem, and things seemed to be ok again. But.... after about 20mins. internet was not working any more again. By now i was getting rather frustrated, because in the AirPort Utility it said everything was working the way it should, including a solid green light on the TC.
Been going over everything i could think off. Soft reset, hard reset, going back to factory settings, resetting the modem. Just resetting the modem, just resetting the TC, resetting both at te same time. Nothing seemed to work, the problem kept coming back! Downgraded the software on the TC, upgraded again. Nothing.
Strange thing was, i hooked up my computer via ethernet directly to the cable-modem and internet was just fine, so no problem there, which was confirmed when i called my ISP (which is great... as long as there is no problem)
After 3 days i finally called Apple, and they were ok to help me. For free just for once (next time i will have to pay 49euros!!) and told him about my problem. He gave me all suggestions i already tried, except changing channels on the TC.
After the call i tried doing that, going from channel 1 to 6, but still... after 20 - 30 mins. internet would drop.
But.... i put it on channel 7 and for now it is working great again. (no loss of internet for about 36hours!!)
This seems to be THE solution for my problem. Apparently, one of my neighbours put up a device which was interfering with the signal of my TC, which caused all my problems!
For now i am really happy everything is back, up and running and i thought i just let you all know about my problems, and solution, because this forum has been a great help!
And... before i forget.... i am running firmware 7.3.2 now... because i read a lot of problems about 7.4.1 and things are running great for me now !!
Hope this little story can help someone else..... try change the channels TC is working on !!
    Good luck to you all!

  • When I open a photo to edit it; why is it not high quality?

My photo is great when I open or view it in any other application. Why does it look low quality in pse 11? Also when I make edits and save them as jpegs, they look great again outside of pse11. Is there a setting I am missing?

Default shortcut to see an image to 100% is ctrl+1 (on windows) and it will make the image at the 100% size of the image.
At this size you can see the actual quality of image

  • Acrobat 9.3.4 no longer finds bookmarked non-PDF files (and then launches assoc app)

I produce a documentation DVD consisting of a one-page PDF file of ~ 1400 bookmarks and a lot of content.  The bookmarks point to the content on the DVD which includes pdf files as well as text, DOC, XLS, and other misc. file types, and a large number of html, swf, flv, .jpg, etc. files which make up 4 complete web sites.  The web sites are entirely contained on the DVD (no extermal internet access is referenced or required)
Content is accessed by clicking a bookmark which simply opens the file (regardless of type.)  Prior to Acrobat 9.3.4, appropriate warnings popped up for non-PDF files but if allowed by the user, the appropriate app was launched for the requested file.
Since applying 9.3.4, a "Launch File" warning box pops up showing the file name (which lacks a device) and when the warning's "Open" button is pressed, a Windows error appears with the message "Windows cannot find 'file.txt'.  Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.  To search for a file....  ", and finally an Adobe Acrobat information box pops up and says "Could not open the file 'path/file.txt'  ".
I have read and re-read about launching external apps, restricted urls and attachments, trust manager preferences, etc. etc.  I've added the files to the privileged locations list under the enhanced security settings and on and on.  It no longer works, yet I tested this DVD on several computers just last week and it worked fine. So, as a shot in the dark, I decided to fire up my laptop and test it there again.
Once on, the laptop immediately wanted to update about 12,000 software products but I politely said "No, wait until i test this out!"  The test was successful and the DVD's pdf file worked great again!  At that point I let the machine apply the Acrobat 9.3.4 update (and some uncountable number of Windows patches and fixes.)  It's running a current version of Win7.  After the reboot, i tried the DVD again (under Acrobat 9.3.4) and it failed as described above.  Because of Win7 I was able to revert to acrobat 9.3.2 using System Restore.  After doing that, the DVD worked again.
Most of our user's machines are either Macs or WinXP (current versions) and i haven't had time to figure out if you can even recover from this update under those OS's.  (It says you cannot remove it from XP, however.)  Regardless, even if i can do it for my laptop and get it working again, i cannot do it for all of our users.
So, my question is if i am not doing something wrong, how do i let someone at Adobe know this release is broken??  If i am doing something wrong on the other hand, what is it and how do i get this to work again??
    Thanks all.

Thanks.  I did submit a report at the site.  I hope somebody reads it as this is a big problem for us.
    Thanks again.

  • Audio skipping distortions after upgrading to iTunes 7.5

Since I downloaded iTunes 7.5 all of my audio on my laptop has random distortions in it (sounds exactly like a prcessor glitch but isnt caused by that). It isn't corrected when I play media through other programs leading me to think that it wasnt iTunes at first. But after many hours of trying to see what else it could be (and that fact that this happened just after I had upgraded to itunes 7.5) I'm now sure that it must be the new iTunes.I found that if i converted my music to ACC through iTunes then it played correctly but this doesnt solve it messing up the sound on my DVD or windows media player and I can't convert any songs purchased through the music store.
(Have checked it's not my soundcard or CPU usage that's the problem)
    Any suggestions?
    Dexian

I had the same horrible skipping problem. Here's what I did to correct it. You need to get itunes ver 6.0.5. My problem started when I upgraded to ver 7 and every version thereafter. First, backup your iTunes library of purchased songs. Get rid of all traces of iTunes ver 7 installation off your hard drive. Install iTunes ver 6.0.5 - then import your iTunes music (I found I had to also delete the two small library files that were created by the later versions of iTunes to be able to import and create the library for ver 6.0.5). After creating the library, all my purchased iTunes songs then appeared in iTunes. The first time I clicked on a song to play it a pop-up window appeared asking to authorize the song on this machine(my PC). I used the same ID and password that I always had used to purchase the iTunes originally. Then everything was great again. It took me a long time to figure out that an earlier version (pre ver 7) was the fix. By the way, prior to doing all the above, I had just re-installed WinXP on a blank hard drive. Hope this works for you - if it does don't ever click yes when the pop-up shows up in iTunes saying that a newer version is available.

  • Time Machine backup failure on 60Gb iPhoto Library on second partition

I had 1 partition on my Macbook Pro (2010). I have several users on the mac and I use fast switching for them. All users use same iPhoto Library and iTunes Media - they are situation in a separate folder in my partition root. My Time Capsule was setup to backup everything and it actually did it well.
Sometime ago I started to find a solution to avoid file permission problem - when different users add files/photos, they have permission to delete/change for them only. This caused some unwanted behavior. I read a lot of forums and basically the most appropriate solution is to create a separate partition on the same HDD and remove checkbox on it to support "Owner".
So I did it - created new partition. Then I moved iTunes and iPhoto to new partition and then I started backup again. Unfortunately, it failed. It took me 2 days to understand that it actually fails on iPhoto Library - all other staff works ok. But as soon as I allow to backup iPhoto Library, it starts backing up and shows some progress, but when 1-2 Gb (or sometimes 100-500 MB) complete it shows that "Backup failed - ... this might be temporary problem..".
I did not manage to resolve this - so I removed partition and reverted everything back by copying iTunes library and iPhoto library to external drive and then back after removing second partition. When I enabled backing up, everything worked great again - no problem.
So here is the question - why backup failed on iPhoto library when it was on second partition? Are the any ideas?

Move/backup/move back/backup did not fix the problem. TM still didn't backup the missing directories.
I was finally able to convince TM to do the right thing by following the procedure described here:
    http://www.nzmac.com/quick-tips/time-machine/how-do-i-reset-time-machine.html
This isn't a solution because I still don't know what caused TM to think that it backed up something that it didn't back up. But the article was suggested by a friend of mine in IT who also owns a few Macs. After following the procedure and running TM again I can see all of the previously missing files backed up on the ext drive. I also used BackupLoupe (http://www.soma-zone.com/BackupLoupe/) to browse the files that were actually copied by the last backup. I see that TM copied the directories that I knew were missing and two other directories that I did not know were missing.
At this point I think my TM backup is complete. But now I'm on the lookout for a better backup solution. Until I find it I'll need to periodically compare backup sizes to make sure that TM keeps doing its job.

  • Display Preferences refuse to stay set.

Brand new 2010 8Core 2.4Ghz MacPro. ATI 5870 video card. Running 3 displays - 2-24" Dell UltraSharps and a 30" Apple Cinema Display.
Using 2 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Adapters in order to drive all 3 displays.
    Card ports =
    MiniDisplay #1 - Apple 30"
    MiniDisplay #2 - 24" Dell
    DVI Port - 24" Dell
The Dells have a max resolution of 1920x1200. I have them rotated to portrait (90°) via Display Preferences.
I HAD to set the Apple 30" in Mini Display port #1 so it would be seen as the primary monitor at all times. Simply dragging the menu bar in Displays > Arrange works for a while.. but read on....
System runs and operates fine overall. I set the Display Preferences, arrange the three monitors (24 - 30 -24) and set the rotation for the Dells. All works and is great while I'm sitting there.
I leave the system for 15 minutes or more and come back to it sleeping. When I hit the spacebar to wake, the Dell displays reset to either 1200x1600 resolution (stretching the picture), lose the 90° rotation, or both. If the Apple 30" isn't plugged into MiniDisplay Port #1, then whatever monitor IS plugged into that port becomes the primary. If I reset things, via Display Preferences, it's all great again until the system sleeps for more the 15 minutes again.
I've tried everything I can think of - zapping PRAM - reinstall the OS - trashing com.apple.windowserver.plist - locking com.apple.windowserver.plist (well setting permissions to read only, you can't lock that file).
Nothing I do will allow the monitors to retain their settings. Am I missing some trick somewhere?
Long time Mac User, previous MacPro with two nVidia cards didn't have this issue.
In addition.. not display related, but I'm finding disk access on the new MacPro horribly slow. Initial disk access takes 3-5 seconds every time. This is exceptionally abnormal for me. I'm not certain if it's an issue with the machine or the OS. This new system purchased last month is my first real exposure to OS10.6.4 on a regular basis. I did completely erase and install the OS when the system arrived as I always do.
    Any ideas?

Wasn't due to a bad machine.
I have had 2 machine swaps since my October purchase of a 2010 MacPro. First system had a hard freeze at ~80% load and Apple requested a swap. Second system shorted out after 44 days of use. Short was not in the power supply ro logic board, it was deeper. I requested a new machine at that point.
So I'm on my 3rd new MacPro since October.... display issues have been the same on all three systems. It's obviously a firmware/video driver issue.
Let's hope this third system actually lasts longer than 45 days. So far, I'm swapping machines due to bad hardware every month and a half.

  • How do I get my phone to turn on after it died and is charging

My phone died, so I put it on the charger and has now been on the charger for 2 hours and will not turn on! What do I do?

Yeah, what modular747 said...PLUS, you might want to try DFU mode restore....My daughters iPod Touch 4g just had this same issue. Just got it this past Christmas. She treats it well, so I was upset that it died all ready. I plugged it in for a while, with no sign of life. Plugged it into pc for a bit, then proceeded to put into DFU mode. It worked! PC saw it in DFU mode, and I, of course, had to do a restore to the latest iOS, which I really didn't want to do, but it seems to work fine. I also restored as a new device, as she hand't done a sync in a while anyway, and didn't want to risk any backup corruption issues. Works great again!

  • How do I get IOS v10.9 onto my Macbook pro ?

Since posting the question below, I found an answer that I believe will solve my problem. I need to go to the Apps Store and get the Mevericks OSX free upgrade. Looking for 10.9 will not help, must be Mavericks. Why Applw couldn't have said that in the message instead of just referring to IOS 10.9, I do not know - it would have saved me and no doubt others, a lot of time and frustration ! I am downloading Mavericks from the App Store now, and expect that will solve things for me. Thanks to the users who posted this simple solution.
Since updating my iPad and iPhone and the apps on it to IOS7, I am unable to open anything from Pages, Numbers or Keynote on my Mac, I am told I need to update to the latest version. I have some downloads for these apps and others (but only when I click the 'show incompatible updates' line ) that tell me I need IOS v10.9 on my Mac otherwise I must download an older version, which of course won't open any of the documents as described above. I have not been offered and update of v10.9 (I am on v10.8.5) and cannot find a download link anywhere for v10.9, Can anyone help ?
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi Maggie Pie
Thanks for this - I eventually figured it out from a reply given to another user about Pages. The problem was that I don't remember seeing anything that told me about the change to Mavericks and that this was in fact OSX 10.9. I wasn't offered it as an update through the App Store which is what normally happens with updates, and the note that came up when I was trying to download the latest apps referred only to requiring 10.9 - had it said Mavericks or Mavericks 10.9 instead, I would have found the upgrade on the site much more quickly.
Thanks for this reply, however, I'm sure it will all be great again once the download is done.
    Cheers
    Andy

  • Songs need locating... but I can't locate them

Alright. I had about 4 gigs of mp3s, which came directly from itunes, on an external harddrive. Put them on my new laptop, which I'd just set up with itunes. Copied them over, which took an suspiciously short amount of time, and they all showed up in the itunes window as smooth and pretty as a guy could hope. A while later I tried to listen to some of them, and I got the 'file can't be located, would you like to locate it?" message. Now, all the song titles show in itunes, and everytime I restart the program, the exclamation points have disappeared, it all looks great again, but none of the songs are there. So I looked in the folder where my library music should be, it has all the music I copied directly from cds, but none of the music I'd imported from the external harddrive. I've searched everything I can in every way I can think of, but the music doesn't seem to be anywhere. Nonetheless itunes says it's got 4 gigs of music, and my laptop harddrive says those 4 gigs are indeed taken up. But where's the music!!
I have copied in music from cd's before and since copying from the external drive, and everything's going great with those. Thanks for your time.

If copying the files took a suspiciously shoort time, are you sure that they were copied?
If you do not have "Copy to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked in Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced>>General, then files are left where they are and their loaction is stored in the library.
If this is what happened, your music would play when the external drive is plugged in, but not when it isn't.
If you find this is what happened, you can simply consolidate your library when the external drive is plugged in. (Advanced menu).
This copies files that are not in the iTunes Music folder into it.

  • My MacBook screen shuts off, goes to white.Restores when closing and reopening, then pressing "enter". This happenn frequently,

My display seems to "time out" unexpectedly.
The screen turns white with blue streeks.
I can restore the display by closing then reopening the display and pressing "exit".
I never loose data and the computer then operates normally.

Ok, mine has been doing the same thing. By now probably have it fixed but the battery thing worked for me. I would open it and it would go black or be all flickery. It seemed like and internal problem that would need a screen cable replaced or such but I just took the battery out which I probably haven't done in the 3 and half years I had it and it worked with the direct power supply. And before I even had time to order new battery I put the same one back and it works great again. These people seriously know how to make a computer. Only problem I've ever had.
