Grid in drawing

Hello,
i am testing Pages as a AppleWorks user. Where is in Pages the menu to make a grid of for example 1mm (rastering). This would be very helpfull when working with drawing objects.
Thanks

I haven't checked your code but this class creates a dynamically sized grid for a chess board or whatever - hope this is what you're after, ie: the algorithms for your grid drawing. Run it with appletviewer and drag the corners and you'll see it auto resize.import java.applet.*;
import java.awt.*;
public class Gridder extends Applet{
   public void init(){}
   public void paint(Graphics g){
      int x = getWidth()/8;
      int y = getHeight()/8;
      int Xx=0, Yy=0;
         for(int ii=0; ii<8; ii++){
            for(int jj=0; jj<8; jj++){
               if((ii+jj) % 2 ==0) g.setColor(Color.gray);
               else g.setColor(Color.lightGray);
               g.fillRect(Xx,Yy,x,y);
               Xx+=x;
         Xx=0;
         Yy+=y;
      Xx=0;
      Yy=0;
      g.setColor(Color.white);
         for(int ii=0; ii<9; ii++){
            g.drawLine(Xx,0,Xx,getHeight());
            g.drawLine(0,Yy,getWidth(),Yy);
            Xx +=x;
            Yy +=y;
}

  • Drawing API issue

    Hi people,
    I have a number of dynamically created MovieClips that are
    used to draw stuff into them. Because the content may be erased,
    the MCs have to clear() themselves sometimes. Now I want to have a
    kind of grid drawn also in those MCs, some small crosses every 200
    pixels. To have the grid remaining when the drawn content is
    cleared, I attached another MC to every draw-MC, and draw the grid
    into those. That way the grid doesn't get deleted, but it is above
    the drawn content. =|
    So, is there a way to have the grid below the content? I
    tried to attach the grid-MC with a very low depth, but this doesn't
    change anything. I guess I could create another MC with a higher
    depth than the grid and draw into that one, but this seems a bit
    awkward, and I'd have to change quite a lot of code. Are there any
    other things I could try?
    greets,
    blemmo

    Hi Randy,
    thanks for the response, but it didn't work out. I guess I
    should explain again: the grid is currently above the things that
    are drawn by the user. I want it the other way, the grid should be
    in the background and the drawings over it.
    In the Flash Help, it says that everything drawn by AS is
    under the content that was added in the Flash IDE. Now the grid
    isn't created in the IDE, but it seems to be the same for any
    attached MC: it's above the AS drawing.
    Because the MCs I draw into can be moved, I want the grid
    attached to those MCs. So I guess the grid can be drawn into the
    MCs (and redrawn every time the MCs clear()), or I have to draw
    into another MC inside the main MC that is above the grid MC. As I
    don't want the 2nd (I want to draw directly into the main MC), I
    just see the 1st option here... or are there other ways?

  • Best technique for creating an isometric grid

    I know there are plugins to make isometric grids. I just want to draw one and have it available for later usage. How can I create this? (I am new to Illustrator and have no experience making custom grids.)
    Thanks!

    There are no true "custom grids" in Illustrator (in the sense of angled snap grids), just as there are no custom rulers.
    If you feel you must use a grid for isometric drawing, you can fake it by several methods:
    1. Draw an array of lines. Put them on a locked layer. Snap to point and SmartGuides will snap to them, even though they are locked.
    2. Draw the array of lines. Convert them to Guides.
    3. Use the Grid Tool to draw a square grid, rotate it 45°, scale it vertically 57.7%, put it on a locked layer or convert it to Guides.
    4. Draw two short lines of the same length (one at 30°, the other at 150°), centered on each other, and use that figure to create a Pattern Swatch. Draw a rectangular path, fill it with the Swatch. Expand the fill so that snaps will work on it.
    All the above have their drawbacks. 1, 2, and 3 are cumbersome because if your page size changes, the grid has to be changed, moved, or added to accordingly. (Unless you draw the grid to fill the entire pasteboard). 3 is awkward because of all the extraneous trash Illustrator is so prone to creating (unfilled, unstroked paths and clipping masks in expanded results).
    I don't use a grid when drawing isometric in Illustrator. I just use SmartGuides. Look it up in online Help. Set the construction guides to 15° increments (or set custom angles to 30°, 150°, and 90°.)

  • Grid does not work properly, nothing aligns right

    I have used ClarisWorks for years on an old 500 megabyte hard drive Mac and absolutley loved it. What I drew on the screen printed accurately on the paper. I do detailed graphs for the needlework industry and have been doing so do for more than a decade. I have a reputation for doing great graphs and instructions. I recently got this new IMac which I love. But I am sadly disappointed in Appleworks. I create a graph to do a needlework chart. I use the auto grid and draw the design for my finshed needlework piece on the graph but when it prints out nothing is lined up right. My work has to be accurate. At this point I think Appleworks stinks! I am thinking I may have to invest in another more advanced program. Has anyone else had this problem? I am getting very frustrated. Not to mention that I am getting behind in my work.
    Thank you to anyone who has any imput. It would much appreciated.
    Denise

    Hi Denise,
    I appreciate your need for precision in the printed version. All can suggst initially is to go to AppleWorks > Preferences > General > Text, and turn Fractional Character Widths on. I know this is a text setting, but it does affect graphics as well.
    If I could see one of your files, it would give me a better idea of how you are building the needlework graphs, and might lead to further ideas on how to solve the problem. It doesn't have to be an actual pattern that you intend to sell—my interest is in the AppleWorks tehnique you're using rather than the graph itself and it's ultimate use.
    My address is available by clickig my name to the left of this message.

    Barry.

  • Shape layer questions

    I’m a web designer that’s used to using Illustrator for all my work. Recently many of my new jobs want me to work in Photoshop, so I’m getting back up to speed with it. I have a  few nagging issues that I haven’t been able to figure out:
    With the direct selection tool, how do I select a small shape that’s overlapping a larger shape? For example, a small line on top of a large rectangle. When I try to do this Photoshop automatically makes me select the larger shape in the background. I have to zoom in super close and individually shift-select each corner of the smaller shape before I can move/transform/whatever it. This gets tedious and slow real fast!
    Recently in a document I’m working in, whenver I make a new shape it automatically adds a bunch of layer styles like drop shadow, stroke, etc. These styles aren’t turned on, but it adds unecessary styles to my layers and my client is very strict about recieving only super clean .psd’s.
    How do I make a line that is truly 1px stoke width? My lines seem to always start out as fuzzy 2px worms until I zoom in and surgically make them 1px. Again, what a waste of time! is there some sort of antialiasing setting that I need to turn off?
    Thanks!

    1. With smaller shapes that are difficult to select, try selecting their layer first. If you are not sure which layer, switch to the Move tool (V), hold Ctrl and click on the small shape. With the default behavior in Photoshop you should be able to select the layer and then use the Direct selection tool to select points on the vector path of the small shape. If you want to just move the entire shape when its the only path on a layer, aside form using the Path Selection tool (black arrow), you can just use the Move tool (V) to change the position of the layer. If you have to deal with a lot of shape layers that you just want to click and move, enable the Auto Select for the Move tool in the Properties bar. Then holding Ctrl while using the tool will toggle to its non - Auto Select mode.
    2.On the Tool's property bar under the main menu, make sure the chain button is not pressed then click on the Style swatch or arrow to the right of the chain button to open the style swatch popup and from its menu there choose No Style. Next shape layer you make will not have the current style automatically applied.
    3. I'm using CS5 on a pc and creating 1 px straight line with the Line tool is buggy with its alignment to grid. The Line Tool draws lines in Shape mode as rectangle vector paths. The difference between the Rectangle Tool and the Line tool is that the Line tool aside from having a Weight attribute, it draws the rectangles starting from the middle if its side. In order to snap it to grid you have to set the grid in the settings to Gridline every 1 pix and Subdivisions 2. If properly working this is supposed to solve your problem if you enable snap to grid and draw your lines starting in the middle of a pixel. The problem is that this doesn't work properly with the Line Tool which does not snap perfectly to the grid. The work around is to draw your lines with the Line Tool in Fill Pixels mode which has an Anti-aliasing option that you can turn off.
    Another alternative for drawing lines on raster layers without anti-aliasing is to use the Pencil tool and hold Shift while dragging with it. The Pencil Tool in Photoshop is the same as the Brush tool but without anti-aliasing. I think more proper name would be non - anti-alised brush.

  • Scripts in InDesign

    I'm a pretty advanced InDesign user, but have a FEAR and AVERSION to using and understanding Scripts. Can anyone recommend a link to something that is going to help me get over this hump? a "scripts in InDesign for dummies" sort of link that won't overwhelm me?!

    Oh scripts are wonderful. They are tailored to a very specific use though. There are plenty of resources.
    What is it you want to do with this script?
    InDesign already comes bundled with a bunch of Scripts, go to Window>Utilities>Scripts (CS5) - for earlier versions go to Window>Automate Scripts
    Here you have  a bunch of scripts already. Like Make Grid.
    Draw a rectangle on the page - then double click Make Grid and input your desired into the dialog box.
    Hey Presto it's done.
    If you right click or cmd click (pc/mac) then you can use the context menu that pops up to Reveal In Explorer.
    Here you can load in whatever scripts you may find. Some come loaded into a browser like this one - http://in-tools.com/indesign/scripts/freeware/SeparatePages.jsx
    All you need to do is copy the text to a Text Editor like Textwrangler or Notepad (not Word) and then save the file as SeparatePages.jsx

  • Overcloking an AthlonXP 2200+...help!!

    HI,
    I own an Athlon XP 2200+ CPU with a Thermaltake Volcano 9 fan, and a MSI K7NG-L MOBO. My problem is... one day I was thinking how many Mhz an AthlonXP 2200+ can hit. So i started overclocking... I set the FSB to 148mhz, so I hit 2000Mhz, an Athlon XP 2400+ with no Vcore changes. And then I tried to hit the FSB to 166Mhz and   , I had to set the 100Mhz Safe Mode jumper and clear the CMOS. So i was thinking if I could hit the FSB of 166Mhz if I rise the Vcore, but how much???..and that will help???
    Please anyone that knows what he is talking.
    Bye!

    Iam going to post this link and all the credit goes out to the people at LostCircuits.Here you will not even touch your processor to open it up to the 166fsb setting.This works trust me my motherboard is unlocked.All you have to do is go to the link and do what it says.I use to have a 2200 before i got this barton 2500.And let me tell you this works.All you need is to go to a automotive store and buy you a defroster kit, that has a bottle of qiuck grid in it.You will have to have a needle,all you have to do is look at the back of your motherboard and take the needle and dip it into the quick grid and draw you a line with the quick grid connecting the 2 pins on the back of the motherboard that it shows you at this web site.Trust me you will not even have to touch your processor,and make sure you do it the way they show you and connect the right pins on the back of the motherboard.After you do this it should boot up at 500mhzs,just go into your bios and change the fsb to 166 and change your multiplier to 11 and it will boot up at 1826 mhzs.And it is unlocked,the wirer trick is ok but this will not harm your processor.All the credit goes out to the people at lostcircuits. http://www.lostcircuits.com/cpu/amd_unlock/

  • Toolbar actions & glasspane display problem.

    Hi,
    I have weird problem. I wrote a calendar application. In the weekly grid, i draw Appointments. I also have a menuBar and a toolBar that have items/buttons for New Appt, Edit Appt, Delete Appt.
    the buttons on the toolbar and the items in the menuBar are linked to the same AbstractAction code.
    when I click on Delete in the menu, it works fine. but when i click on the delete button in the toolbar, it will delete the appointment, but all the other appointments that were on the page are no longer displayed, i have to refresh the applet to see them again.
    i don't understand how the actions in a menubar and a toolbar will lead to different results if they reference the same block of code.
    while screwing around with everything, i've noticed that if i do a glassPane.setVisible(false) (inside of the actionPerformed() in DeleteAction class) before executing the delete code, the other appointments don't disappear. but if i do a glassPane.setVisible(true) after deleting the appointment, they disappear again.
    anybody got some ideas of how to resolve this problem or what may be the cause of it? thanks
    Chris

    I ran your code on Java8b91 (OS X 10.8) and it seemed to work fine.
    Maybe I don't know what kind of error I'm looking for.
    The site you point at is pretty big, so it's hard for me to say what may or may not be wrong with it.
    When posting code, it is best to use code tags: https://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=1622
    If you could replace the webEngine.load method with a webEngine.loadContent string and in the string just place the content which you are having issues with, it might help someone help you track down any issues you have - otherwise I don't think you will get any help.

  • Draw Grid in Illustrator

    hi guys,
    1 - Do you know which is the best way to draw a grid like that in Illustrator?
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1ub1FOws8ZpNjfaWuKSTIOpkSeMN7V
    Sometimes i did drew something like it and when i apply the outline view, the node points are not in the same line. I guess i might have to make an isometric grid...
    2 - The idea is to use this grid later on as a pattern to fill shapes like rectangles or circles. Which is the best way to do it?
    thanks for any ideas,
    Sebastiao

    Jet, that is a marvelous drawing!
    So if i understand right you draw the red or the yellow lines and then how you convert it to a pattern? Is that symbol palette?
    Thanks for the good info and regards!

  • Perspective Grid: How do I draw a cube showing only its TOP and its FRONT?

    Can I create this with Illustrator's Perspective Grid? the 1-, 2-, and 3-point perspectives don't seem to be what I need...

    Yes you can draw it with perspective grid.
    Set up perspective grid
    Draw a square and rotate it 45°
    then drag square into perspective grid
    Make a copy by pressing Alt and 5 and moving up
    (to measure the distance you could place a copy of the square from step one on one of the sides in perspective grid)
    Then use the pen tool to draw the front side by connecting the dots.

  • Printing the grid used in creating a PSE 10 drawing

    Hello,
    I have created a scaled floor plan dwng using the grid in PSE 10. It would be very useful to me to be able to print the grid directly with my drawing - preferably as a semi-opaque 'background'.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    1. Add a blank layer and fill with white.
    2. Activate the grid on the white layer.
    3. Take a screenshot of the grid and place it in a new layer. Use the Move tool to resize this layer so that the grid matches the original.
    4. Delete or turn off the visibility of the white layer.
    5. Change the Blend mode of the grid layer to Multiply.
    Note: you can use the PrtSct key for the screenshot but there are utilities where you can draw out the precise region.  I use Winsnap:  http://www.ntwind.com/
    For another method check out msg#2 at

  • Drawing a warped grid in perspective???

    Now...... i know how to use the perspective tool and i understand that i can draw a grid onto this but the grid always seems to be out of whack when i do and the line spacing isn't at all perfect.  What i want to be able to do is draw a grid with equal spacing and have the ability to warp this so it looks all bent up going off into the distance.
    I can see this is going to be something that i have to draw in manually but i'm kind of hoping that i can have the bulk of the job done for me.
    However, if i do have to draw it manually, how would i go about spacing the lines equally along a wafty curved line???

    Actually, upon playing about with this, i seem to have got exactly wat i was after    Thanks a lot
