Overcloking an AthlonXP 2200+...help!!

HI,
I own an Athlon XP 2200+ CPU with a Thermaltake Volcano 9 fan, and a MSI K7NG-L MOBO. My problem is... one day I was thinking how many Mhz an AthlonXP 2200+ can hit. So i started overclocking... I set the FSB to 148mhz, so I hit 2000Mhz, an Athlon XP 2400+ with no Vcore changes. And then I tried to hit the FSB to 166Mhz and   , I had to set the 100Mhz Safe Mode jumper and clear the CMOS. So i was thinking if I could hit the FSB of 166Mhz if I rise the Vcore, but how much???..and that will help???
Please anyone that knows what he is talking.
Bye!

Iam going to post this link and all the credit goes out to the people at LostCircuits. Here you will not even touch your processor to open it up to the 166fsb setting. This works trust me my motherboard is unlocked. All you have to do is go to the link and do what it says.I use to have a 2200 before i got this barton 2500.And let me tell you this works. All you need is to go to a automotive store and buy you a defroster kit, that has a bottle of qiuck grid in it.You will have to have a needle, all you have to do is look at the back of your motherboard and take the needle and dip it into the quick grid and draw you a line with the quick grid connecting the 2 pins on the back of the motherboard that it shows you at this web site.Trust me you will not even have to touch your processor, and make sure you do it the way they show you and connect the right pins on the back of the motherboard. After you do this it should boot up at 500mhzs,just go into your bios and change the fsb to 166 and change your multiplier to 11 and it will boot up at 1826 mhzs. And it is unlocked, the wirer trick is ok but this will not harm your processor. All the credit goes out to the people at lostcircuits. http://www.lostcircuits.com/cpu/amd_unlock/

does the "AthlonXP Thoroughbred" version work with my motherboard or is it just the "Palaminium", or whatever it's beeing called ??.
and i can't find any "Palaminium" version of the 2200+

Thanks for the help, yeah, i knew that it supported 2200+, but the Thoroughbred version of the CPU is 0.13 instead of 0.18, and the BIOS update details didn't show if it supported the "Thoroughbred" version, the only think that stood there was AthlonXP 2200+, and my manual said that my motherboard supports as standard a AthlonXP (Palomino), not the Thoroughbred version, so i didn't know if that kinda AthlonXP CPU was supported, but now i know  :]  :]

  • AthlonXP (2200+) + MSI K7T Turbo2 trouble

    Hi!, i have a huge problem that i can't solve!.  X(
I have a MSI motherboard (MSI K7T Turbo2), and have bought myself a new CPU. After looking at the newest  BIOS details on the MSI website i desided to buy an AthlonXP 2200+ (1.8GHZ - becomed supported with the latest BIOS update) but now i can't get it to work propebly.
I downloaded the latest BIOS and flashed it with the accurate flashtool that was included in the .exe file i d/l. and now to my problem:
My AthlonXP 2200+ works with the standard clockfrequenzy settings in the BIOS configuration but that configuration tells the computer that i only have a AthlonXP 1500+ (1.3GHZ) not 2200+, so then i went to  the MSI website again and looked at the "CPU support" table you had. there is says:
To get an AthlonXP 2200+ on a K7t Turbo2 motherboard to work, use these settings:
set the FSB("clock by slightly adjust")=133 and the Ratio(CPU clock ratio)=13.5 and it will work, here's my problem, i can't set the FSB to "133" in my bios, the MAX setting is "132" and i can't choose "13.5" as ratio, only "13", so i tryed using FSB=132 and Ratio=13, but then after my computer rebooted i was forced to "clear the cmos" to get the computer to start again.
so i must run the CPU as a 1500+ (1.35GHZ) using the standard settings in the frequenzy settings, and that realy sucks :(, the CPU cost me plenty of money and im a poor student with bad ecomomy and your BIOS details said that the CPU was supported ://// please help me!
This is what my computer outputs directly when booting up: (when the BIOS checks harddrives/cdroms/memory...)
    * Award modular BIOS v6.00 PG
    * W6330VMS V.3.5
    pleease help me!!!!!  X(  X(  X(

I think you have to remove the jumper "J17" for FSB 133+. Consult you'r manual on where this jumper is located.

  • Need help with vga

I have a big problem.I've upgraded my old MSI Geforce MX440 AGP4X to an ASUS Geforce FX 5200 128mb and unfortunetly i haven't experienced any diffrence between this and my last vga card.I know that the geforce 5200 is not a powerful card but i think anyway the fx is much better than the mx series.I cannot explain why am i getting only 4600 points in 3d mark2001(1024x768@32bit).I have tried different display drivers, enabled agp 8x in bios, and nothing. Please help!
    My config:
    MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
    AthlonXP 2200+
     256MB DDR 400 PC3200 PQI
     256MB DDR 400 KINGMAX
     HDD WD Caviar 20GB
     ASUS GeforceFX 5200 128MB AGP8x 128bit
     Modem 56KBps Intel(R)
     TV&FM video-audio capture card KWorld
     CD-R LG 52X
     Standard Floppy drive
     ATX Middle Tower 300W

The FX speed in game is same with the G4 MX but it supports DirectX 9.0 when G4 MX runs in DirectX 8.1 . You must use 3DMark2003 not 2001 to bench the FX 5200
But don't worry , FX 5200 is good enough to beat the G4 MX440
    PS : GeForce4 MX == GeForce FX5200

  • Kt4v-L and amd athlon xp 2200+ issue.

    Hey all,
I'm new to the boards here and am in complete desperation.
I just received my new AthlonXP 2200+ in the mail and went to put it in.  I had some minor issues with CPU acknowledgement (reporting it as a 1500+)  so I flashed to version 1.8 of the KT4V mainboard bios.  After the flash was completed (done with livebios btw) My system will no longer boot into Windows.  It WILL boot into safe mode, but as far as actual fully functional windows, it stalls just before the windows logo shows during the loading screen, kind of like a transparent image.
I'm not really all that proficient in all the computer lingo..so i may leave something out,if so please let me know and ill dig up the needed info. But this is my system setup:
Mainboard:  MSI Kt4V-L  Bios version 1.8
    Cpu:        AMD Athlon XP 2200+
    Power:      Alliance 450W
    Video:      Visiontek GeForce 3 TI500
Sound:      Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy X-Gamer
    Ram:        Samsung 512 DDR400
Hard Drive: Western Digital 10 gigabyte
    CD-RW:      Sony
    CD-ROM:     Creative labs
    Lan:        Onboard
If anyone has any idea what my problem might be, and any possible way to remedy this situation, It would be greatly appreciated  :D

Alright... I think your FSB is set wrong.  MSI says that a 100mhz FSB is incompatible with DDR400 memory, so that probably explains your windows boot problem.  To check that, enter the bios when you turn your computer on and go to "Frequency and Voltage" (press delete to enter the bios).  Set the front side bus to 133mhz.  That is most likely the problem since a 2200+ has a 13.5 multiplier, and 13.5 *100 = 1350mhz, which is about the same speed as a 1500+.  Also, check to make sure your RAM speed is set to auto.  I think that option is found under Advanced chipset options (it's the third one on the left).  Post back if that works or not.

  • Lotsa errors!

    Hi all,
I recently treated myself by building a new PC with these specs:
    Amd AthlonXP 2200+
    512mb Corsair PC2700
    120GB Maxtor
    Asus Nforce2 Deluxe
    Msi Gf4 Ti4200
I am using windows XP, but i am having a number of issues with the graphics. I don't know whether they are related and so far i have tried new drivers, a new BIOS and a clean boot up of windows. These are the problems:
    1. Unreal Tournament 2003 - Works pretty well but on maps with distant objects, i.e. objects that are not within about 10yards on screen, i get a lot of 'shuddering' when i turn. None of the settings in the game have solved this and i've tried changing settings in the ini file .
    2. Red Alert 2, C&G and Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 - Pretty hard to describe but when moving around the maps, the screen briefly tries to do something with the graphics. Looks like the graphics are adjusting themselves from top to bottom on horizontal lines. Have no idea how to solve this ?( . Need extra help here.
and finally 3. Capture drivers - Every time i install the capture drivers i look in the device manager and it tells me there's a problem with the video capture :( .
I don't think any of these are related to each other but it would be great if i could get my PC running well.
    Thanks for your time, bornlivid

Hi, I've also been playing UT2003 and C&C Generals on this current graphics cards. Well 'bout ya problem, maybe the follwoing should help...
    1. Switch off any AA samples in your graphics card performance.
    2. Switch off all SBA enabled utilities.
    3. Play at lower resolutions like 1024 by 768 @ 16bit colors with monitor running @least 75hz and above.
Especially for C&C/G, as their gameplay is a bit rigourous, if you've noticed during gamplay, they tend to Zoom In and Out of the screen focusing on different entities during gameplay... Lower the speed of the game as that is actually the framerate that will be consumed for playing... I found this in one of their .ini files.
    All the Best...  :D !!!

  • Horizontal Lines - Yuk!

    Hi,
    This is my system:
    AthlonXP 2200+
    512mb DDR 2100
    KT4V K7
    Gf4 Ti4200 128mb
    Sound Audigy 2
    420W PSU
I seem to get these horizontal lines in both 2D and 3D applications and i get it everywhere, especially as i move across the screen in a 2D or 3D game. The graphics don't "flow", it almost looks like the graphics get caught on these horizontal lines on the screen and then pull away. Almost a dragging effect. These horizontal lines aren't physically visable, but the dragging of the graphics shows up the lines.
I have the tried new and different drivers, BIOS, and directX and now am looking for proffessional help. Can anyone help me ?( ?
    Thanx, Highflyer

first do you have the latest 41.09 drivers from nvidia,,,second do you have the latest hyperon 445 drivers from via,,,third do you have it overclocked to much,,i havent been able to get mine past 300 core and 600 memory on these cards,,also at your own risk you might set your agp volts to 1.6 or 1.7,,seemed to help stabilise mine,,,check your screen on another computer,,,might also try resetting your direct draw,,,go to start, run, type in dxdiag enter,go to display tab, disable direct x features all, close restart,go back and turn them on and restart..... hope this helps,,,if youve already done all this break glass and pull alarm :D

  • FSB/CPU Speed Problem Easy Fix Probly

I was fidlin' around in my bios and noticed that Im running at 1.34Ghz...  which is strange for me, considering im running an AthlonXP 2200+, i played with the FSB Setting a bit, put it to 200, yet im still running at 1.34Ghz...  This should be 1.8Ghz if im correct...
What exactly are the settings i need to change to get myself up to 1.8Ghz?  I feel like a moron asking this since i should know it... heh
Thanks for the help though to those who give it.
    System: (Just for reference)
    Board: k7n2g-ILSR
    CPU:     AthlonXP 2200+
    RAM:     1xCrucial 256MB PC2700

Sounds like you're running in safe mode Jumper J10 should be on pins 1&2. Jumper J11 should be shorted. I beleive the FSB for a 2200+ is 133.

  • 2D 'tearing'.

I'm having a slight problem with my MSI GeForce4 Ti4600. I'm getting a lot of 'tearing' with 2D objects in Windows. When I say tearing, I mean the image appears to be sliced horizontally. It's only obvious when there's a noticable contrast in colours vertically which are moving horizontally. It's basically the same as the tearing that games suffer from with Vsync disabled.
It has done this in the past, but only for a matter of minutes, after which it seemed to stop and return to normal. It's been doing it continuously for at least 3 weeks now though.
I've tried an enormous amount of things to fix the problem, but I've had no luck yet. I've tried different resolutions and refresh rates, a huge variety of different drivers. I've tried updating my motherboard bios (and changing a bunch of settings), several different VIA 4in1 drivers, as well as different vsync settings for both D3D and OpenGL. I tried using the DVI-VGA adapter to see if the VGA port was malfunctioning, but recieved no signal from it at all (perhaps I did that wrong, I don't know). I've also tried a few different monitors, so I'm pretty sure it's not that. I've tried all of the above before and after formatting.
I'll be shifting the card into a different computer later today, as well as putting an alternative card into this one. But for now, has anyone else experienced anything like this?
I read in a review of the card that someone had a problem like this, but only after overclocking it. After changing it to a slightly lower setting the problem disappeared. Well, this card has never been overclocked. My system is also extremely cold, so I think it's unlikely that it's overheated and been damaged in any way.
The more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that the card has been damaged somehow. However, the fact that there are no such problems while running 3D applications suggests differently. I'm out of ideas, heh.
If it's simply coming to the end of it's life, I'll be a little disappointed, since I was hoping it would last for a bit longer than the 6 months I've had it for.
    My system:
    AMD AthlonXP 2200+
    MSI KT3 Ultra2
    512Mb PC2700 DDR RAM (Corsair)
    Sound Blaster Live! Platinum
Windows XP with service pack 1
    Any help is appreciated.

I was having the same problem - I think I remember figuring it out. It was because I had set windows to display everything at a zoomed level - you do this in Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display. Set it back to 100% and the tearing problem should disappear.
I think it's likely due to a subpar graphics card driver.

  • Shall I get the Corsair RAM?

I have a chance of acquiring some of the new CAS 2 rated 3200 DDR400 from Corsair.
System is KT4 Ultra, AthlonXP 2200. Current ram is okayish Samsung 3200 DDR400 rated at CAS 3.
Whilst I know that my limited overclocking potential will not make full use of the new purchase, given that that CAS latency is much lower, is this still a cool purchase.
The mobo of course supports the ram, it is really a question of whether you gurus think is this worth it with the CPU at just 140FSB?
    yes, I am a gamer!
    Cheers

  • UK Retail Deliveries

Hi, I am simply wondering if anybody has any inside information regarding deliveries to UK Apple Stores?
I am on the priority list in my local store (Cardiff) and have been told I'm around 150 - 200 on the list.
I hope this is OK for me to ask!

The same mag also previewed an nForce2 GT reference board which has the IGP and the MCP-T.
Here are some quotes from the preview:
    Quote
We tested the new IGP  using 64MB of shared memory, although Nvidia allows up to 128MB of system memory to be used as a frame buffer.  Testing proved that this is the most powerful desktop integrated graphics yet, scoring 4190 in 3dMark2001 SE at 1024x768 on an Athlon XP 2200+ with 512MB of PC2100 memory.
    Quote
The 2d score of 1.43 is enormous, beating most of the similarly specified AthlonXP 2200+ PC's we've reviewed, and even some with faster processors... this is a fantastic achievement
    Quote
The core features are also powerful, especially for versions using the MCP-T south bridge controller.  If tthe final retail boards can fulfill this early promise, nForce2 looks set to be the performance choice for Athlon-based PCs

  • [Solved - ext4 is just super slow] New Install Seems Very Slow

After 8 years of Gentoo I decided to replace my main development box with Arch.  No X, just screen, emacs, w3m, and various compilers/languages.
My old box is a 5 year old Gentoo box.  AthlonXP 2200 (1.7Ghz), 512M.
The new Arch box is a based on a Shuttle K48.  It's got an Intel E2200 (Dual Core, 2.2Ghz), 2G, new SATA drive.
Just to see I did a clean checkout of Clojure (a new JVM language) and did a "ant" on both boxes.
    Gentoo: 20 Seconds
    Arch: 51 Seconds
I don't think it's a Java issue (same JVM version btw), it's just the only thing I can really think to compare it against.  When Arch hits the compile step I hear a fan go off and my hard drive light stays on for the durations.    I used ext4 on the drives, gentoo is using reiser.  Nothing else seems particularly slow, but I'm not doing anything on it really like I said.  A pacman install will happen almost instantaneously (which after 8 years of Gentoo is a welcome change).
Anyone have any ideas?  I'll post whatever info you think might be useful.
    Thanks.
Last edited by baetis (2009-05-02 16:02:40)

So I reinstalled with reiserfs so the comparison would be against the same filesystem type.  The compile time on arch is now down to 20 seconds.  It still doesn't make sense though.  The compile is using 2 2.2Ghz cores, it should be crushing my old Gentoo box.
I might try again with ext3.
If anyone is curious if their ext4 shows similar issues try this (you'll need 15M on an ext2 /boot partition):
    On an ext4 partition:
    pacman -S svn
    pacman -S jdk
    pacman -S apache-ant
    svn checkout http://clojure.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ clojure
    cd clojure
    ant [take note of time]
    As root:
    cd /boot
cp -R <path to where you checked out clojure> .
    cd clojure
    ant clean
    ant [compare times]
Do it a few times, ant clean then ant on both partitions and see how you fare.

    Hey folks,
Im having a problem where no matter what speed im burning at, (even at 4x), my computer gets all jittery...
I had Nero tell me how many times the buffer ran out on a few burns, and it said that the burn proof thing saved me 120-200 times...

Everything works fine, except during the Windows 2000 splash screen, the blue bar gets to half way, then the computer hangs there for about a minute or two, then boots.
Everything seems to work fine and its fast.
I can't figure out why its hanging like this.
I've tried about every BIOS setting there is.  I've reloaded Windows 2 or 3 times.  Changed the video card (no other cards in system).  Turned off the built in LAN.
    Changed memory.
    Using:
