GT780DXR 680m Upgrade

Hi everyone. Long time reader first time poster (always wanted to say that )
I'm wondering if anyone can help me with the above upgrade.
Long story slightly shorter, I have both a 675m and 680m MXM video card which I purchased from eurocom.
I installed the 675m the other day to see if it would work as there are no official drivers for the 680m yet.
It booted to windows in vga mode no problem but I cannot get the drivers (304.79-supposed to support the 675m) to install.
It keeps saying incompatible hardware and doesn't install, I'm still stuck in vga mode.
I am wondering if MSI BIOS locks out any card that doesn't have an MSI vbios. (The card vendor for the 675m is nVidia according to GPU-Z)
Now we all know that the 675m is a rebadged 580m so it should have worked as the 780DX supports 580m.
If I cant get the 675m to install, what chance do I have of installing the 680m??
MSI phone tech support was no help, saying it just won't work. (He wants me to buy a GT70ONE)
If I flashed the vbios to an MSI one do you think it would install?
I am willing to donate a substantial amount to the person that can help me install the 680m (I know there are no drivers yet so I will have to wait)
Please help me svet, I know you can do it... I have a $900 paperweight sitting on my desk...
I have latest BIOS 30H and EC ver 1419.

Just wondering if you have heard of the MSI 680m modded vBIOS from Saltius/SVL7. You see, I gave up on the GT780DX, sold it, and bought a GT70-OND.
I'm having the same problem, I upgraded the 675m to a 680m, machine boots fine but cannot install drivers. The error message says incompatible hardware. The 680m I have is most likely a clevo card as I bought it from eurocom, I don't think the MSI likes it.
I am even using the latest BIOS and EC firmware for the machine, this is supposed to give it 680m support. I really think I need an MSI vBIOS and the modded vBIOS I mentioned earlier is of particular interest because the 680m overclocks well and with a couple of voltage mods overclocks very well.
Let me know what you think and maybe where to get that modded bios from...

oki have gt780dxr...still so stisfied with that machine. but its times to upgrade for nvidia 570m gpu. i am able to find so many better MXM gpus on ebay and aliexpress
but the thing is i wonder about which one would work with my laptop?
is there any one allready done upgrade on this model? cuz as all you know MXM cards is not that cheap and i dont wantto get in to trouble with the sellers.

AMD HD7970m BIOS for MSI GT780DXR (GPU Upgrade)

I want to upgrade my MSI GT780DXR. I want to replace the stock GTX 570m with an AMD HD7970m. In order to do this I've been told i have to do the following:
1) Buy the GPU
2) Buy a new heatsink
3) Flash Clevo BIOS with Enduro off.
Right now, I'm stuck on the third part. I don't know how to do this, or where to get the BIOS. This is what I need help with. Can someone tell me where to get these BIOS and tell me when/how to install them?
And also, if there is anything else i need to upgrade my GPU in my MSI GT780DXR. Thanks!

Talk to Svl7 if I remember the name right. He has been doing the NVidia bio's there, but I'm not sure who handled the ATI bios's, but I'm sure he knows. They are probably your best bet.

Upgraded to 680m in a GT70 ONC... Oddities...

So title says it all. Upgraded to a 680m in a GT70 ONC. I am running the newest bios off of MSI's website... I fear I have bitten off more than I can chew; as it is not working. Lol
Well it is and it isn't. When I installed the card it was recognized as a 675MX? It's certainly faster than my stock GPU... But all attempts to install 680m drivers have been thwarted. Safe mode, no safe mode, repeated uninstalls, etc. Any ideas?

Are you absolutely, 100% certain that it is a GTX680M card?
Got pictures to prove it?
Are you certain that the board has a GTX680M VBIOS on it? If it doesn't, that could be a problem....

Upgrade GPU in MSI GT780DXR?

I've had the MSI GT780DXR for a while now, and wondering if i could upgrade the GPU. Right now it's stocked with a GTX 570m. I was wondering if there are any GPUs I could upgrade too. If it is possible, could you leave instructions on how to, and if there is anything special i need to do to my computer. Thanks!

Does your laptop come with Optimus? If it comes with NVidia's Optimus technology.....you can't upgrade to an AMD HD7970m, simply because it won't work together.......
If your laptop had a GTX570 in it, I would upgrade to another NVidia based card.......for the purpose of better compatibility.
I would go with the GTX675MX or GTX680M if you really want as much performance as possible.
Regarding where to purchase it....I'm not sure. You might be able to get one straight from the MSI Store if you search or email them about it.
Ebay is probably your other bet, but I'm not sure I would trust that very much either. Unless it says it comes from another MSI laptop (most likely a GT70/GT60).
As far as the other questions, you don't really need much except a few screwdrivers, some heatsink compound for the new card, maybe some papertowels and acetone to clean the old heatsink compound off.
Nothing is garunteed to work 100% though, so keep that in mind with this upgrade.

GT60 w/ GeForce GTX 680m: Is there a way to upgrade to SLI?

Just curious... I'm kind of sad that the performance gap between a GeForce GTX 680m and a HD 7970m CFX is relatively large (considering the latter performs almost on par with it's single card/SLI setups) and that the price of a single GTX 680m is only 50-100 bucks less than 7970m CFX.

There is no way to really improve upon the current graphics setup. Until there is a 780M (whenever that might come...in another 6 months to a year), you're pretty much stuck with either a 680M or maybe a HD7870M or whatever the mobile variation of the top AMD card is.
Personally, I'd stick with the NVidia 680M. Optimus with that card actually works much better than most AMD implementations, and I'm not sure an AMD card would even work in our notebooks.
That, and you only have space for a single graphics card. Only premium brands such as an Alienware M17 or M18x or Sager/Clevo 9k series notebooks really provide proper SLI/Crossfire support. And yes it is much more powerful, but you also pay for it. A single 680M is perfectly fine for 90% of gaming, even at 1080P. You need to realize that this is still a notebook, not a desktop. It only has a 180W power supply, unlike a desktop with normally 400+ Watts.
If you search around, there are ways to make the 680M quite a bit better, as overclocking it is very possible and does provide some significant benefits, if you're lucky and take your time and do it right (both hardware and software wise). I don't recommend this though, but I do know people who have done it.

There is no possibility of upgrading the existing adapter to a GTX-680M.

Hi:
There are no video "cards" in today's notebooks. All of the graphics chips (GPU's) are soldered to the motherboard.
A notebook PC is much different than a desktop. You can't just swap out one video adapter for another.
The only other supported motherboard that your notebook could support, is one with the nvidia GT 650 GPU chip on it and the cost of upgrading would not be worth it.
Yes, you can post your second question maybe in the notebook wireless section would be best.

If you want to play a safe way. GTX580M is your choice. If you expect a GPU performance boost, then I do not have any recommendation, but you should refer to this thread first before buying a new card.

Looking to buy and upgrade a GT70 2OC-065US

Hey guys, been a owner of a MSI GT780DXR since the release. Love these notebooks and looking to upgrade for better performance on FFXIV and BF4. So I've found a few MSI GT70 2OC-065US's for around $1200-1400. But I wanna do some upgrades myself since last time I bought from Xoticpc.com and turns out they didn't do any of the upgrades I purchased except the CPU upgrade and extra ram. So I decided to buy the parts and do it myself this time. I've had a lot more experience with thermal compounds and system upgrades.
The reason I'm here though is, I'm not familiar with the 4th gen CPU's and need some advice and knowledge from you guys about the GT70. So basically, all I'm gonna be doing is upgrading the RAM, thermal compound, hard drive, and do a fresh install.
The parts I'm looking at purchasing for the upgrades...

Now I'm wondering since I'm not sure about the GT70, are 2 of the ram slots on top of the board like in the GT780 (i.e. under the keyboard)? Will I need to do a Bio's flash for the SSD and is ram I've selected the best option for the system or is there other options better suited? The G Skill say the 1.35V is for 4th gen processors but I'm curious if this is recommended for this board? Also, any resources out there showing a tear down of the GT70 to it's frame?
Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, I have the best performance from Samsung SSD's I've been using 4 830's for going on two years as OS SSD drives in 4 PC's, another has a 840 evo as the OS drive. A little over a year ago I upgraded my Sony VAIO laptop's from the 640GB HDD to a Samsung 840 500GB HDD. It's been flawless.
I have some refurbed OCZ's, all have been fine, but really haven't had them that long. My first SSD was a Crucial M4, it is still running strong, but isn't nearly as fast as any of the Samsung drives. I also have a refurbed Crucial M4, not very old, but runs identical to the original I bought. I tend to use Newegg and what they sell for refurbs as a guide to what may or may not be a good idea. OCZ's are constantly on there, just about any make and model. Crucial started popping up a few months ago. Haven't checked lately, but last I looked, Still no Samsung refurbs. That's not to say people haven't had trouble with them.
If you do go Crucial, check out the M500, and go for at least one that is 480GB are larger. The write speed on the 256 (240GB) and smaller drives are inferior to the other drives, I believe this is true for the M4 line as well.
Always had good luck with GSkill memory, it's the only brand I buy for my desktops, and it's what I used to upgrade my Sony laptop as well.

problem is that the laptop won't boot(only power button lit on and the fan spins).Do i need a modified bios?

I also bought 1 from ebay last month and when I put it on my gt60, it instantly booted. No problem during installation. i just removed the gpu bracket at the back and all is well.. The card is a beast and you must tame it's heat though.. anyways I hope you solved your problem too.

IPod no longer works with car stereo since upgraded MBA & iTunes

My iPod classic has worked just fine connected to my car stereo since i bought it last june. I just bought a new Macbook Air (OS 10.7.3) & installed ITUNES 10.6.1. After I synched my ipod for the first time its recognised by the car but i get a "can't read data" message. I re-formatted my ipod but its exactly the same. Do you think its the upgrade- or the cable? Has anyone else found a bug with this version of Itunes or the OS? I have my doubts a cable would make the difference, and my old ipod nano that i haven't synched for a while works fine.

If standalone works fine, then, most likely the 30 pin connect may have some dirt or lint, prevent data transfer.
You can try to blow it clean, if you have a can of compressed air or gas.
Alternatively you can connect it to the car stereo and do the RESET, while connnected.as follows
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
Then release the buttons
Select your preferred language.

The Reset sequence may send a signal to the Car stereo to do the right thing

Brand new IPOD Touch Apps no longer work after upgrading software

I got a Ipod touch for my wife Today at Wal-Mart. I brought it home, connected to wifi and downloaded some apps and also payed for some. They all worked fine. Then I connected to computer to transfer songs. It told me to upgrade the Ipod software so i Did. After it restarted none of the downloaded apps work anymore. I have read MANY MANY MANY discussions on this and there is no fix. I am not wiping out all the songs and reload everything all over again. It will take forever. My wifes BD is Friday and this is making me so mad after I just dropped $300 on this thing. APPLE!!! Where is the fix? I deleted the apps and reinstalled they still don't work. Anybody got this figured out? I am getting ready to get my money back and tell everyone to avoid buying ipod until they get this upgrade bug fixed.

I have the same problem. Brand new two days ago. I synched the touch with Itunes but wasn't hooked up to the internet at the time so didn't do the software upgrade right away. Then I downloaded about a dozen apps (free and paid) with wifi directly to the touch. They all worked fine. Then I plugged it back in to Itunes and had it upgrade it to 3.1.2. It locked up Itunes several times since then and the downloaded apps no longer work (they start to open then disappear).
The problem is, no one is listening to this problem (including Anna above)! Everyone says "just do a hard reboot, or restore to factory settings, reload the apps, etc." I've tried all the standard troubleshooting but none of it fixes this. It sure seems to me this is a problem with 3.1.2 but Apple isn't helping out here. Where are you APPLE? Use some of those outrageous profits you're making to fix the problem you have created. Here's $300 of my hard earned dollars pretty much down the drain.
