GUI Scripting Java SWT apps

Hi,
It doesn't appear that the GUI scripting works with Java SWT apps (eclipse, etc). Is there any way to get this to work?
Thanks,
George

Explorer it with PreFab UIBrowser see if it got any GUI element, if not out of luck. I don't have any Java SWT so I have no way to test my idea. But that where I would start.

  • Compiling tuxguitar (or generally java/swt apps)

I can't compile tuxguitar . It uses java and SWT and I have installed both. It gave me 100 errors about undefined references. At closer inspection I found that swt isn't placed with the java package in /opt, but in /usr instead (which is what I prefer, but that's not the point..). I tried exporting swt's /usr path to CLASSPATH, but it didn't help (of cource I could have done it wrong ).
I wonder if anyone else has problems with compiling swt apps?

My [timefinder application|http://timefinder.sourceforge.net/] would benefit a lot from JavaFX!
See my current requirements for a planner UI which could manage a lot of persons or rooms - this would be possible with the NetBeans graph library, too, but JavaFX seems to be a bit more easier to me. Especially because of the great binding.

has anybody actually compiled a java swt app to machine code using gnu/gcj?.. if so can you please tell me how to?.. ive tryed everything thats posted on internet but it still wont work.. thanks

You would have better luck on a gcj forum/mailling list.

"scripts" are entirely different from GUI applications. What do you expect to happen when you run a Swing application through telnet on another machine? Do you expect the Swing UI to be magically transported to the local Windows machine?
Not gonna happen. Yes, like ejp hinted, you could run an X-environment on your local machine and have the Swing UI tunnel its output there, but are you sure you want GUI apps to run on a remote machine like that? It's not gonna be fun to work with, I'll tell you that.
Why not create a Java WebStart app (or perhaps even an applet) out of your application, so your users can run the application locally?

  • Deploying Java Desktop App using executable JAR files

    Hi there.
Today I am very optimistic about java. I am a beginner, and I had tried (in my few free time) to understand how to deploy java desktop apps.
I am using the lattest NetBeans IDE to do the programming and it is very very fast and optimized.
Going to the point, I tried some time ago to deploy an application (made with this IDE) using JAR files, but even though the application run well on my IDE, when I packed it, it rised an error saying that
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/netbeans/lib/awtextra/AbsoluteLayout
I was using an absolute layout on my JFrame forms and this AbsoluteLayout is provided by netbeans and not by the normal SDK.
I then looked for the absolute layout class and found a jar file in the following path:
    C:\netbeans\modules\ext\AbsoluteLayout.jar
So I mounted the Jar file in my File Systems and then added the contents of the file to myApp.Jar file.
I used the automated Jar Recipe Packaging feature of netbeans, that is why I needed to mount the AbsoluteLayout.jar file into my file systems.
Now it runs fine by just right clicking the MyApp.jar file from Windows Explorer.
In a next reply to this topic I will include some sample code so that anybody requiring to do such implementation can take this for help.
    Regards!
    JN

    Well,
I will take some time here to show the basic source code and procedure to create a desktop application, pack it up in a Jar file for deployment, add other classes or jars to the deployment jar file and finally open the jar file as an executable. This applies for either windows and linux environments.
Take in count i am using Netbeans IDE 3.x (3.5)
First I open the IDE and create a new project called MyDesktopApp. This is done by going to the menu Project / Project Manager. Then click on the New button and specify the project name and click on OK.
At this point, the Filesystems tab in the project explorer is empty. So I mount a directory to store myDesktopApp in it. I selected c:\MyDesktopApp but you can select any name you want.
To mount the directory you follow these steps:
    1. Right-click on File Systems
    2. From the contextual menu select Mount > Local Directory
    3. In the filechooser window, you just browse it and SELECT the directory to mount. Be aware that you can even create the directory on this window. Do not enter (double-click) into the directory you want to mount, just select it and click on finish...
4.Then the directory entry appears under the filesystems node of the project explorer.
Now you have to create your application. You can either create a package (special configured and tracked directory) or you can create the clases directly inside the directory. For tidy project, I will create the package.
To create the package follow these instructions:
    1. Right-click on the mounted directory and from the contextual menu select New > Java Package
    2. In the New Wizard - Java Package window, type the package name and click on finish. I use the "MyDesktopApp" as package name.
OK. Now the package is created under the mounted directory. Now we have to create the Main Class. In this case I will use a JFRAME as the main class but you can create any class you want.
To create the JFRAME as main class follow these steps:
    1. Right click on the java package you just created and select New>JFRAME from the contextual menu. If you do not see the JFRAME option on the NEW sub menu you will have to select the All Templates option. I explain the All Templates option now on, it will be easier to use the JFRAME if available. Once you use JFRAME with the all templates then the JFRAME will show up in further NEW usage.
    2. So finally we used the All Templates, and you select the Java GUI Forms > JFRAME form option and click on NEXT.
    3. Give it a name. (I used MyDesktopAppFrm) and click on finish. Be aware you can set advanced options by clicking on next. But for the purposes of this topic we will use default options so click on FINISH
    4. A new JFRAME form appears inside your package. Right click on the form and select Set layout > Absolute Layout.
    5. Add some controls and code. I added a label and a button. And coded the ActionPerformed event of the button to say hello! on the label. this is up to you. The code just looks as follows:
    private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
// Add your handling code here:
    jLabel1.setText("Hello folks!");
    6. Compile and execute the form.
Let's say this is our Desktop Application. Now We will pack it in a Jar in two steps...
    A. Create a JAR file (Recipe)
    1. Right-click on your package and select New > All Tempaltes (Long Route) You can also select New > JAR Recipe if available.
    2. On the New Wizard Window, choose the JAR ARchives > JAR Recipe template and click on NEXT
    3. I used MyDesktopApp as the file name and Defaults and then click on Next.
    4. Specify the JAR Contents. Select the Package (not the mounted folder) from the mounted file system and click on add and then click on NEXT twice...
    5. On the JAR Manifest window, click on GENERATE
    6. Edit the manifest in the window to add the following code:
    Main-Class: MyDesktopApp.MyDesktopAppFrm
    7. Ensure the Main-Class definition is the same as your java package and JFRAME name. Click on FINISH
    8. At this point we have a jar file in your project directory but this file wont run because it is missing some Netbeans clases that we will add in the next set of steps... Just to check, compile the file (right click on the JAR file and compile) and try to execute. It must compile but must not execute.(well if it executes you are done. It may execute if you did not set the lay out of the form as AbsoluteLayout)
    B. Add the AbsoluteLayOut to the JAR
    1. Right click on File Systems and select Mount > Archive Files
    2. Look for your netbeans installation folder and select the following file:
    .../netbeans/modules/ext/AbsoluteLayout.jar
    3. Click on finish
    4. Now the JAR File is mounted in the file systems.
    5. Right-click on your MyDesktopApp.JAR file and select properties.
    6. Look for the contents property click once on it and then on its elipsis button [...]
    7. From the FileSystems box in the Contents window, select the AbsoluteLayOut file and click on Add
    8. Then the system asks you if you are sure. Of course you are so click OK. (If not sure, just read the message text and click OK...:-))
    9. Click on OK
    10. Compile your JAR Recipe (right click on it and Compile)
    11. Now you must be able to run the file by right clicking it and EXECUTE.
    12. Also you must be able to run the file by double clicking the file from a Windows Explorer. You may receive a message asking to select the program to run the file with. You must browse and select the Javaw.exe file in the bin directory of your Java RUn Time installation. This is typically located at C:\j2sdk1.4.0_01\jre\bin or something like that. Use the File-Search feature of window to locate the JAVAW.exe file if needed.
I hope this long explanation helps somebody to deploy Java Desktop applications. Please reply the message if it helps you just to know it was useful.
    Thanks for your time....

  • GUI in Java

I ever learn Java before JDK 1.4, but to make application GUI in Java is so complicated. So i never learn Java to make application GUI again.
Now There is JDK 1.6, is it more easy to make GUI in Java now ? I hope i can make GUI in Java likes VB6 or Visual Studio 2005, just click n click, n just think the code. Very easy not so complicated.
Do u have any comment or advice to me or i just so stupid ?
I am sorry if myenglish is bad, thx a lot.

I do little gui stuff as i am still learning basics but the intelli sense of the IDE's helps me a lot in learning about what can be done.
A question ?----> many posts have stated their preference for intelliJ IDEA, $99 for student version. And supposedly a far better GUI builder. Would most java apps , well a whole hell of a lot use morelikly a browser interface anyway would they not ?
Intelli sense is like having the API opened up in front of you at all times. Still it is a touch confusing, like i was using strVar.valueOf("123"); and Strvar = StrValue.parseDouble("123"); and didnt get the idea of the two methods.
Also with IO streams. Lots of methods seemed to do pretty much the same result.
And when you get into GUI event handling I think the line is a bit blurred between object programming and procedural programming. But back on the GUI and IDE , im using Netbeans BlueJ, Eclipse, and BlueJ (BlueJ is the only editor we are supported to use) but i never understood that or i mean agreed with that so i pretty much never used it(BlueJ) after first couple of the course lectures. mainly because i downloaded Netbeans along with the JDK. as id just finished a semester of VB.Net and naturallly "'Wanted it All'"
I will have a look at JBuilder if its free. I hit apon a bug i thought of the NetBeans form builder, how it will not color some properties of the form as it maybe should but then eclipse did the same thing.
Also i had to get help with a combobox event handler as it fires twice, well three times as it it fired when the form or window activated/showed in the first place .

  • Executing SAP GUI Script From a Web Page

I have an issue when trying to execute some javascript (sap gui script) from a webpage.
When the javascript is executed I get the message:
automation server unable to create object.
However, this exact same javascript when placed in a text file and double-clicked executes just fine through the windows scripting host.
Does anyone have an example of gui script code executing from a webpage?  Or any ideas on why it isn't working from the webpage?  Both scenarios should be executing the code on the local machine through WSH.

    Hi Bernd,
the following code works in VBS. If you run saplogon.exe you'll get a message box saying '/app'.
    Set Wrp = CreateObject ("SapROTWr.SapROTWrapper")
    Set SapGui = Wrp.GetROTEntry ("SAPGUI")
    Set application = sapgui.GetScriptingEngine
    MsgBox application.id
I haven't tried it on a web page, but I don't see why it shouldn't work there. Ok, maybe the MsgBox is command is not available.
    Best regards,

  • Having trouble GUI scripting

    Hi there,
I'm trying to script a small app called Deeper (that doesn't work natively with ascript).
I tried GUI scripting with apple script editor but I'm not how it works so I put that aside and went trying with UI Element Inspector.
So I'm trying to select something from a scroll menu, and then click a start button.
What it does is it activates the Flurry screensaver as a background, but some bugs turn it off, so I wanted that by running this script, it would use Deeper to turn it back on without having to do it manually.
I tried as best as I can to stick with the example given in the UIElementInspector page, but I am really a starter in scripting.
    First, I did:
    tell application "Deeper"
    activate
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "Deeper"
    tell menu "PopUpButton"
But then I found out there was no way to distinguish that pop up menu from others (with UIElementInspector) other than by the size and location of the menu in the app.
So first I'd need help finding out how to tell the script wich menu to go check in, and then probably stick with the example page.
As you can see, I'll really trying to learn applescript from the start, because it looks so useful.
    Thanks to anyone for helping!

    You shouldn't need this:
"open application file "Deeper.app" of folder "Applications" of startup disk"
as this activates your app for you:
    "activate application "Deeper""
    activate application "Deeper"
    delay 1
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "Deeper"
click button "General" of tool bar 1 of window "Deeper"
    delay 0.5
tell pop up button 4 of window "Deeper"
    click
click menu item "Flurry" of menu 1
    end tell
    delay 0.5
click button "Start" of window "Deeper"
    delay 0.5
    tell application "Finder"
    quit application "Deeper"
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell

  • Save report to MHTML format using Gui script

    hello all,
how can i save a report in .MHTML format using Gui Script.  I am not able to record the "Save as" dialog box option with guiscripts.  i am on ECC 6
    thansk in adv.
    Kris

    Hi Script Man,
I am having a similar issue to export to MHTML using SAP Scripting. I created a macro that open SAP GUI and do the required transaction. However, I got stuck exporting to MHTML. The code must save as MHTML in the path described below and then open the "export.MHTLM" file.
This is the code I have until now:
    Sub SAPScripting_exportMHTML()
    Set app = CreateObject("Sapgui.ScriptingCtrl.1")
    Set Connection = app.OpenConnection("# E05 - R/3 - Produção", True)
    Set Session = Connection.Children(0)
'Code to login on SAP GUI and do desired transaction:
    Session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/txtRSYST-BNAME").Text = "C2MARCOSEC"
    Session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/pwdRSYST-BCODE").Text = "*******"
    Session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/pwdRSYST-BCODE").SetFocus
    Session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/pwdRSYST-BCODE").caretPosition = 8

    Best regards
    Rolf-Martin

    Dear Rolf-Martin,
I have problem w/ sapgui java  that puzzled me all along ...
I've downloaded SAPGUI Java 700r2.1 .. then successfully installed in my PPC ibook G4 ... up and running well ...
one day my colleague with a new MacBook (Intel Core Duo 2GHz) want to have SAPGUI ...
i installed it, run the apps, it works well to the point of SAPLOGON window ...
But it cannot connect to any server defined ...
When I create a new connection, it correctly connected to server and group list can be chosen, but still when I click it to connect nothing happened as if the program not running.
Java -version is 1.5.0_07 .. software update checked, no issue with Java or else ...
I've also try to change the JDK to 1.4.2 to no avail.
I'm stuck. system already re-installed. install sapgui from fresh but problem still persist.
No clue from Googling ... no clue from sapnotes ...
Would you please point me to something so I can dig in ?
    Regards,

  • Winxp skin on swt apps

To run an swt app with the winxp skin you need a manifest file, java.exe.manifest, for the launching jvm. how can i do this through a web start launch?

Your answer is slightly not correct regarding a JWS deployment on a client. A normal deployment user won't be able to change or do this... :-)
Anyone has figured out how to manage this via Webstart directly?!?
An approach would be to repackage the SWT-App with an own EXE-File-Wrapper?!

  • Using AppleScript to re-format with GUI scripting

    Background:
I use Pages 4.1 under Mac OSX 10.6.8.
I use medical practice software called Genie, built on 4D. When I create a new letter based on a template in Genie, some formatting is required before the letter is sent. This is repetitive and frequent - just the sort of task for scripting. With help from many people on Apple discussions, I now have a script that converts the text in Pages from A (starting and ending with =====) to B (starting and ending with +++++). The text and the script are edited, as there are about 30 lines in the real Mental State Exam.
The script uses Styles within Pages to change the formatting of the headings. It uses GUI scripting with find and replace to add spaces before measurement abbreviations. It use GUI scripting to italicise some sub-headings.
I tried to use GUI scripting of the Advanced tab of the Find & Replace window, but I was unsuccessful, as I don't know how to find out the names of the various items in the Find & Replace window. (E.g. Where it says "Style:" with a dropdown menu starting with "Any", I don't know how to refer to this dropdown menu).
Although this script works, it's slower than I would like, and it's a bit clunky because of the way I have incorporated elements of scripts more knowledgable users, and cobbled them together.
I would appreciate any advice on how to improve the script.
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi,
This can be done without "Gui Scripting" when the document does not contain many lines, otherwise it's much slower.
    Here is an example:
tell application "Pages" to tell document 1
set tWords to (words whose it ends with "mg")
repeat with i from (count tWords) to 1 by -1
set thisWord to item i of tWords
if (length of thisWord) > 2 and text -3 of thisWord is in "1234567890" then
set (word i whose it ends with "mg") to (text 1 thru -3 of thisWord) & " mg"
            end if
        end repeat
        set L to character offset of characters whose it = " " or it = " "
        set n to -2
repeat with i from (count L) to 1 by -1
            set n2 to item i of L
            if n - 1 = n2 then delete character n2
            set n to n2
        end repeat
        set styleHeadings to {{"MENTAL STATE", "Sous-section 2"}, ¬
            {"Appearance and B", "MSE Heading 2"}, ¬
            {"General appe", "Indent-single"}, ¬
            {"Patient attit", "Indent-single"}, ¬
            {"Psychomotor ", "Indent-single"}, ¬

            {"Aware of abn", "Indent-double"}, ¬
            {"Attributes to i", "Indent-double"}, ¬

set {marker, styleName} to item k of styleHeadings
set paragraph style of (paragraphs whose it begins with marker) to paragraph style styleName

  • GUI scripting question -am I sunk?

    Hi all,
I am working on an Applescript to bring up two different non-Applescript-able applications (ie. ones w/o a dictionary) and am getting the error:
    NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError : 4 from Applescript.
I have "Enable access for assitive devices" checked in SystemPreferences and am GUI scripting.
Here's the snippet of code that gives the error:
    tell application "System Events"
    if UI elements enabled then
    activate application "TRx Recorder"
tell button " Record " of tool bar 1 of window "TRx Recorder"
    click
    end tell
    end if
    end tell
I generated the code "tell button ..." from the Prefab's UI Browser.
I've tried clicking via the name of the button, and via the position of the button. Same error.
Does this mean I'm sunk and can't get the app to respond to my Applescript?
When I select the Action of button " Record " from within the UI Browser, it works fine.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!
    Ed

    Hi Camelot,
Yes indeed I needed a "tell process ..." block, as well as, 2 extra spaces in the label for the Record button.
I got the following to work:
    tell application "System Events"
    if UI elements enabled then
    activate application "TRx Recorder"
    tell process "TRx Recorder"
click button " Record " of tool bar 1 of window "TRx Recorder"
    end tell
    end if
    end tell
I dug around using UI Browser and discovered that I needed 2 blanks in front of and 2 blanks behind of the label "Record" to correctly access the button. I originally had 1 space in front of Record and 1 space after Record within the quotes. With only 1 space I get the Applescript error I mentioned. With 2 I don't get the error.
Many thanks for the tip, it made me look closer at the labels of the buttons in UI Browser.

  • Unable to Print Purchase order automatically using SAP GUI for JAVA

    Hi SAP gurus,
Some of the PC's in our company use windows and some LINUX. Therefore we use two types of SAP GUI. One for windows and the other one JAVA. PO approval was set to print automatically. In a windows setting, there are no problems with this setup. But in SAP GUI for JAVA, no print outs are produced and no error messages are displayed. I am using SAP GUI for JAVA version 7.10 ver 6. and I use Front end printing for linux access method G.
    please help,
    gungertz

    hi gungertz,
You can use U type access method for printing SAP document using linux desktop.

          Scenario:
And i working on testing server which does not have any trasaction, i have to record the transaction using RFC connection to different machine.

I recorded the script, but when i try to execute the same this attached error r coming.
But i recorded the same using TCD(Recorded) using remote connection and able to sucessfully execute.
One more thing also, we used write the script for reading the test data from Excel and pass as parameters using TCD(Recording).
