Guide refuses to stay on Favorites

Since the update about a week ago, the guide always comes up on "all channels". I have to switch it to Favorites Every. Single. **bleep**. Time. (And then when I switch it, it gets the current channel wrong.) Does anyone know of any way to convince the guide that I really mean it when I tell it to show Favorite channels?
(I don't understand why the guide was given such a huge overhaul in the first place. What was wrong with the old one? Any chance I can switch back to it?)

I don't know the answer to your question because I do not experience what you describe. But some questions:
1) What setting do you have for Favorites Button? I have it set to Toggle Flip by Favorites.
2) What setting do you have for Flip by Favorites? I have it set to Favorites 1 (the only Favorites list I have defined).
3) What setting do you have for Last Viewed Guide State under Television? I have it set to Disable and my Guide defaults to whatever the last setting I made (Full or Favorites), but I have seen a post recommending that this be set to Enable to keep the last setting. I don't understand why mine works without that setting, but you might try enabling it if you don't already have it set that way.
4) Oh, and I guess I am wondering what model STB you have? You say that it gets the channel wrong when you switch, I do not experience that either. I have a QIP7232 DVR and a couple of QIP7100-P2 STBs, and I do not see that on any of them.
As to why the Guide was given a "hugh overhaul", I guess the answer is that Verizon just wanted to do so, maybe bring us a more "modern" look. And clearly besides the new Guide format and colors, there are lots of new capabilities in IMG 1.9; if you haven't explored and started to use some of those new capabilities I suggest you do so, it may change you view of the new software.
I find the new Guide terrific, I really like the new format and the colors, and I am 70 years old, severely nearsighted, and wear bifocals pretty much full time and I have absolutely no trouble reading the Guide or any of the other menus. Some people say they cannot read it more than a few feet away, I can take off my glasses and easily read it from about 8-10 feet away, and I really could not do that with the old Guide. Apparently YMMV on this, and I know there have been complaints, but if you consider the number of users who now have the new Guide, and the relatively few complaints posted here, I think most people either like it, or at least have gotten used to it.
I have had the new Guide now for a couple of months and am used to it. The only thing I don't like at this point is the extra large banner that appears at the bottom of the screen each time I change channels, it takes up maybe 1/3 of the screen, far too much, and stays too long, about 10 seconds. Of course I can easily remove that banner by hitting the Exit key, but that is just another key press that I feel should not be necessary.
I suspect that in the next release of the IMG, Verizon will add some options to perhaps adjust some of the colors and change the contrast and the time the banner remains on the screen. Not that that helps you now, but I think there is hope for improvements in the future.
If you do find a solution to your issue with the Guide not staying with your Favorites, please come back here and tell us what fixed it, others will benefit from your experience.

  • Link colors refuse to stay the color I tell them to be

    Hello,
I have taught myself how to build this website. I'm an amateur, however I know the basics of dreamweaver CS3 whgich has gotten my by. My website is www.dieseljunkies.ca. The first thing I did was change the page properties so that all text links appear bold (which they do) and stay the same colour as the the main font #595033. However, they still apear blue before visiting purple after and it looks very ugly on the site. An example would be in the main content section of the home page and in the footer.
I have only found forums telling me to do the most basic things like edit the page properties. I HAVE already done that. If you view the source, you will see. Please help!
    Thanks,
    J

    Change this -
    color: 595033
    to this -
    color:#595033
    In all cases.
To simplify your CSS you might consider using just this -
    a {
        text-decoration: none;
        color: #595033;
        font-weight: bold;
since all of your link pseudo-classes are the same.

  • Why is it that when I set the preference to always show the tab bar, it refuses to stay checked after I quit Firefox and restart it?

Using Mac OSX10.6.7 and FF 4.0.1, I'm having a problem with the preference to always show the tab bar. I want it to always show. I check this in the Preferences under the "tab" window, and everything is fine until I quit FF and when I restart FF the tab bar is gone again. I go into preferences, and that option is now unchecked. How can I fix this so that my preference is saved?

That hasn't helped the last ten times I tried. I posted before. I deleted the preferences file, I tried changing the preferences file, I went into about:config and changed the autoHide preference there. No dice. Firefox is not saving my preference for that one thing.

  • Display Preferences refuse to stay set.

Brand new 2010 8Core 2.4Ghz MacPro. ATI 5870 video card. Running 3 displays - 2-24" Dell UltraSharps and a 30" Apple Cinema Display.
Using 2 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Adapters in order to drive all 3 displays.
    Card ports =
    MiniDisplay #1 - Apple 30"
    MiniDisplay #2 - 24" Dell
    DVI Port - 24" Dell
The Dells have a max resolution of 1920x1200. I have them rotated to portrait (90°) via Display Preferences.
I HAD to set the Apple 30" in Mini Display port #1 so it would be seen as the primary monitor at all times. Simply dragging the menu bar in Displays > Arrange works for a while.. but read on....
System runs and operates fine overall. I set the Display Preferences, arrange the three monitors (24 - 30 -24) and set the rotation for the Dells. All works and is great while I'm sitting there.
I leave the system for 15 minutes or more and come back to it sleeping. When I hit the spacebar to wake, the Dell displays reset to either 1200x1600 resolution (stretching the picture), lose the 90° rotation, or both. If the Apple 30" isn't plugged into MiniDisplay Port #1, then whatever monitor IS plugged into that port becomes the primary. If I reset things, via Display Preferences, it's all great again until the system sleeps for more the 15 minutes again.
I've tried everything I can think of - zapping PRAM - reinstall the OS - trashing com.apple.windowserver.plist - locking com.apple.windowserver.plist (well setting permissions to read only, you can't lock that file).
Nothing I do will allow the monitors to retain their settings. Am I missing some trick somewhere?
Long time Mac User, previous MacPro with two nVidia cards didn't have this issue.
In addition.. not display related, but I'm finding disk access on the new MacPro horribly slow. Initial disk access takes 3-5 seconds every time. This is exceptionally abnormal for me. I'm not certain if it's an issue with the machine or the OS. This new system purchased last month is my first real exposure to OS10.6.4 on a regular basis. I did completely erase and install the OS when the system arrived as I always do.
    Any ideas?

Wasn't due to a bad machine.
I have had 2 machine swaps since my October purchase of a 2010 MacPro. First system had a hard freeze at ~80% load and Apple requested a swap. Second system shorted out after 44 days of use. Short was not in the power supply ro logic board, it was deeper. I requested a new machine at that point.
So I'm on my 3rd new MacPro since October.... display issues have been the same on all three systems. It's obviously a firmware/video driver issue.
Let's hope this third system actually lasts longer than 45 days. So far, I'm swapping machines due to bad hardware every month and a half.

  • Adobe Acrobat 8.1 refuses to stay open.

Adobe Acrobat 8.1 closes.  It says "AA8 cannot be launched at this time. you must launch at least 1 other suite component (such as Ad. photoshop) before launching AA8 Pro."
This happened with AA8, so I updated.  Didn't change.  I am using older CS3 program with no problems for years -- now it won't even let me open a pdf file.

I had a similar problem just now and what worked for me was i archived a email in MS outlook using the Adopbe PDF dropdown menu and then I had full access to X Pro again.
    Can't help with CS3. Sorry
    Hope that this helps

  • Wireless-G network refusing to stay connected.

I have a wireless-g (Model WRT54GS) that we've been having multiple issues with over the past year. We were originally using it unsecured and ended up getting multiple disconnects from the network. So I went through the steps on the main page to secure the network (WPA). Unfortunately while it resolved the issue with the neighbors using our router, we've started getting issues of the network not showing in the list of available networks. It goes from showing on the list with an excellent signal strength, to not showing only to show up again a few moments later. This is causing us to repeatedly disconnect from the network. I have not been able to isolate what is causing the network to vanish and reappear like that nor been able to get it to stop disappearing.
The main two computers that use the network/internet the most are located in the exact same room as the router. Its really strange in that some days we reamain connected with no issues and then other days its just going on and off. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing the network vanishing issues at all? Help would be greatly appreciated before my wife takes a hammer to the thing or tosses it out of the window.

Your neighbor may have a wireless network using the same channel as yours. Change the wireless channel on your router. Best ones to use are 1, 6, 11. Most common is 6.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • How do I get the power manager settings to take hold? And stay that way?

I want to have my computer awake while on the battery and while I'm driving my car.  To reduce distraction, I want to have the lid closed.
In order to make this mode easy to get to, I created a new power plan that has the "lid-closed" event result in "do nothing".  Sometimes, this works.  Sometimes, the computer goes to sleep.  It is exceedingly annoying when the computer goes to sleep because I will get to my destination 45 minutes later and find that the computer didn't do what I wanted.
I've also noticed that the setting for "do nothing" sometimes bleeds over to other power plans.  This is also a problem because, under ordinary situations, I would like my computer to behave normally.
Here's a summary of the situation:
    1. I've disabled the "apply the settings to all power plans" button.
    2. I've created a new power plan called "Logging" that should stay awake when the lid is closed.  This power plan will sleep after 65 minutes and hibernate 10 minutes after that (on battery).
    3. This plan stays awake sometimes, but not other times.  At this instant, sitting in my living room, it refuses to stay awake.  Oops, just tried it and now it works (a little consistency here would be nice).
    4. As a case example, this morning the computer behaved as expected: I arrived at my destination and it was still away and logging.  This afternoon, I woke it up and started logging, closed the lid, and drove off.  Upon reaching my destination, I discovered that the computer went to sleep as soon as the lid was closed.
    5.  The program I'm running logs data points.  When the computer sleeps, data points don't get logged.  Therefore, I know the computer is sleeping because, after a long logging session (45 minutes), there will only be a few seconds of data points (which correspond to the amount of time it takes to close the lid).  If the computer goes to sleep after 10 minutes or 30 minutes, there would be many more data points.
    6. When the computer hibernates or sleeps, it seems to remove whatever change I last put into the plan.  Even so, the plan still "says" that the change is there.
Ultimately, the difficulty here is that I can't predict what the computer is going to do.  If I could, then I could adjust my use pattern.

    Try this:
Go into Power Manager, choose the Logging profile.
Go into Windows' Power Options, choose a different profile, then switch back to the Logging profile.
See if this clears any contradiction between the two.

Today, for no apparent reason several of my application icons refuse to stay in Dock, including Safari, Address Book and Mail. When I move the icons to the doc after 2-3 seconds they move out. • Question about guides

Hi, my name is Quin and I am in the process of designing a vegetable seed package for my organic seed company. I'm using InDesign CS5 (7.0.3) with my MacBook (running the last version of Snow Leopard). I've designed the label size to match the size of the envelopes I want to print on directly but after the initial printing I've discovered there are some idiosyncracies in the envelope itself. For instance, because of how the envelope is glued together i need to redesign the label so the printer won't print where the glue points overlap. Anyway, this has necessitated me to measure out the envelope and leave the appropriate space in the design. I've been trying to discover a simple way in InDesign in which I can use the guides feature to mark out the space that I can't print over, so when I am doing the layout work I will know where to avoid placing objects. Naturally I assumed the guides feature would help me, however, every time I use guides I cannot seem to use multiple guides simultaneously, and the help files in InDesign. For instance, I can drag a horizontal guide out but then it disappears the second I attempt to select another object. Additionally, it would be nice to have two guide lines (vertical horizontal), or more, even, and yet I am baffled as to how to do that. The InDesign help file related to guides doesn't address any of these issues. The only other options I am aware of is creating some kind of grid with multiple rows and columns, and this doesn't seem to be suitable for the task at hand.
Would anyone on this forum be willing to educate me as to how i might be able to go about creating guide lines that stay visible and I can work with (but of course, won't print in the final version)? I imagine — am hoping, actually — there is probably some simple feature i am overlooking that will help me.
    Sincerely, an indesign newbie,
    Quin

When you are in Preview mode and you draw a rule guide out it automatically goes into Normal mode. So that shouldn't be a reason for not seeing it.
There are three Things I'd check here.
    1. Layout>Ruler Guides and make sure the View Threshold is set at 5% (make sure they're not set to white or something - CYAN is the usual colour for them)
    2. And in Preferences>Grids and Pasteboard, make sure they are not set to "Guides in Back"
    3. Go to the Window>Layers panel and double click the layer you're currently trying to set a guide on. Make Sure that "Show Guides" is selected.

  • IMac won't stay asleep

I recently installed Lion OS. When i try to put my iMac to sleep, it does so momentarily and then wakes up.

Had the exact same problem.  The trusty old mid-2007 iMac refused to stay asleep, whether I pressed the power button (with "Allow power button to put the computer to sleep" checked) or chose "Sleep" from the Apple menu or let it sit for the "Computer sleep" interval.  It would immediately wake up again in all cases.
The problem was somehow related to the powered USB hub itself.  Removing USB devices from the hub one at a time made no difference.  Unplugging the hub from the iMac solved the problem (but also made it impossible to use, as the wired Apple keyboard is plugged into that hub.)
The solution was powering down all accessories (including the USB hub) and the iMac, then turning on power to all accessories, letting them start up, then turning on the iMac.  There may have been some interaction between the USB hub, the iMac's PMU, and/or the iMac's USB controller(s) that prevented the iMac from sleeping.
(Note: it might be very useful to follow the advice in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17050677#17050677, which will show the specific reason for the machine waking up.  It may not be necessary to shut down all external devices to solve the problem.)

  • Cursor will not stay in address bar even once I've started typing

When I initially start FF I am able to click into the address bar and type a URL without problem. A few minutes later if I open a new tab or try and click into the url bar, the cursor jumps to any available text box on the page and refuses to stay in the url bar. Sometimes I manage to write the first letter in the bar then the cursor immediately jumps, and continues to happen each time I click back into the bar, so I can never type anything in it. The problem is solved if I restart FF but then starts again at soon after. I've tried disabling all my add-ons/extensions but this hasn't worked. I'm using FF 12 on a MacBook Pro. Any help appreciated, thanks.

''Any'' new tab (e.g., Ctrl+clicking a link), or a new tab containing your ''new tab page'' (e.g., Ctrtl+t)?
There have been many threads about where the cursor should be after opening a new tab to the new tab page. Many users complained that after Firefox 17, instead of the cursor moving to the Google search box, it stayed in the address bar (e.g., [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/945511 Cursor focus is changed to address bar instead of google search box on new tabs in FF 17]). Recently a user complained about the opposite starting in Firefox 23 ([https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/969927 Firefox update 23.0.1, no longer automatically highlights the address bar content when I open a new tab]).
One complication is that "new tab" add-ons often have a feature to change Firefox's normal behavior and it's easy to forget about them and sometimes difficult to understand the description. In NewTabURL, look at the last checkbox in its options dialog.
I could go on, but if you could clarify the scenario a bit more, I think that would be more efficient.

  • IMac display won't stay asleep while encoding with iDVD

My iMac's display refuses to stay in sleep mode while I am encoding a project in iDVD. (Note that I'm referring to sleeping the display, not the entire computer.) I encode large projects overnight, and I am concerned about possible burn-in, the annoyance of the unwanted light when I'm trying to sleep, and the waste of energy. A search of the archives reveals a long history of the same problem which unfortunately has remained unsolved.
I have tried the following with no success:
    1. Ruled out accidental mouse/keyboard strokes as the problem
    2. Used Hot Corners to initiate sleep (wakes back up after 5 seconds)
    3. Setting the sleep display timer to 1 minute in the Energy Saving settings
    4. 3rd party app and widget "Sleep Display" (only works for 10.4 Tiger apparently)
Does anyone have any new ideas about this bug/problem? Does it only affect iMacs?
    Thanks

How can you be sure? It may be some system operation that's doing it.
This may also prevent the display from sleeping, but the next time you're doing this you might launch Activity Monitor and order the process list by CPU. Then when the display wakes up, note what processes (besides the DVD encoding software) are using non-trivial amounts of CPU time.

  • Browser won't stay open

Hi, I'm on my second iphone- the first one had to be returned because of this same problem. The problem is, my browser refuses to stay open. I am repeatedly returned to my home screen. I have tried all the tips I've read about to remedy the problem, to no avail. When I took in my second phone, they restored it and told me that it would fix the problem. It didn't and it's worse. I just came back from the Apple store (where the genius, who is on his third iphone)updated my software (on the second try- it failed to update the first time). He said that it is not my phone itself which is "broken", but the buggy software. The thing is, I can't be the only one experiencing this unbelievably annoying problem, am I!? Don't get me wrong- I LOVE my phone when it's working properly, but this problem has worsened and become intolerable. Occasionally, my phone will even reboot itself. I'm starting to wonder if I should just give it up and get a Blackberry or something because I also overheard one of the geniuses telling another one that they have been getting a ton of iphones coming back. I also sensed this the two times I was in the store- I get a look like: oh no, here comes another one . I prefer NOT to give it up, but I'm ready to tear my hair out! Do I need a third iphone??
    K.

Allan, here's an update: I just now picked up my phone, having never turned it off before putting it down, and the screen remains black! It's totally flatlined! It now will not turn on at all. Oy. This baby is going back first thing tomorrow. The weird thing is, after leaving the Apple store, I noticed some faint artifacts on my screen. As in, strange colors in areas that shouldn't be there. Do you know what I mean? It was similar to the time my graphics card died on my old pc.
Allan, yes- I restored both ways- wiping everything out and starting from scratch, and from a backup. I also got into the habit of powering off (and on) my phone religiously. It looks like this is a hardware, not just a software problem, now. I do hope the third time will be a charm, though . And I AM hopeful, especially after hearing that you've only crashed one time! Many thanks for troubleshooting with me, it's much appreciated!
    K.
