Guidelines to create a Flash Catalyst compatible project?

Does anyone know where to find the guidelines to create a Flash Catalyst compatible project? All the links from the documentation seems to be broken.

  • Project not Flash Catalyst compatible. Unexpected Property value??

    Hi,
Can anyone help me please? I created quite a large project with Flash Catalyst and have published & uploaded it no problem. Yesterday I did some minor changes to it, and again published and uploaded it. Today I went to open the project and it won't launch. I get an error message:
This project is not Flash Catalyst compatible. To fix combatibility problems, open the project in Flash Builder.
    src\Main.mxml (217): Unexpected property value:
    . Expected: Array tag.
I need this file working, otherwise the whole project is gone. What can I do?
Even my backup copy won't open and displays the same error message.

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for the tip. I do have the whole Master Collection, so opened my project in Flash Builder, and checked the warning. I don't know anything about Flash Builder since I work in design, but assumed the yellow warning triangle was referring to the line 217, which read:
    <s:filters>
                </s:filters>
I went on to delete those two lines and saved the project under a different name -  and was able to open it in Flash Catalyst again!  What a relief!
But how come Flash Catalyst does this kind of thing? Like I said, I was able to publish the project no problem, but then when went to open it again, the error message appeared. So really the user did nothing in between and FC comes up with an error.
There were also a whole buch of other alerts when I opened the project in Flash Builder (with the blue i signs), but I assume that I just ignore those?
    Many thanks,
    Miia

  • "This project is not Flash Catalyst compatible" property value error (Panini)

I created a project last night in Flash Catalyst Panini and spent several hours on it, saved it, closed it, and this morning when I tried to open it again, it gave me this error:
This project is not Flash Catalyst compatible. To fix compatibility problems, open the project in Flash Builder.
src/Main.mxml (141): Unexpected property value: . Expected: array.
Any idea how I can fix this or do a workaround of sorts? I'm pretty sure from reading other forums that "This project is not Flash Catalyst compatible" is related to a known bug, but I'd really like to not have to recreate my project from scratch... I'm a designer and am quite familiar with Photoshop and Illustrator but kinda new to Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder, although I know a very small bit of html and basic programming principles so that helps to a degree.
    Here is the file: files.me.com/sdjourni/zv2mr8
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Looks like there were some issues with code related to filters.
But, I'm unable to reproduce the issue at my end on the latest build. Could you please let us know on which build of Flash Catalyst did you hit this issue?
Anywyays, I removed two lines of unwanted code and the project is working fine now. I attached the new fixed project to this post. Please download and use that.
We will investigate the actual issue once we get the Fc build number from you.

  • How to send submited information on the form created in flash catalyst to an email??

    Hi,
i have created a contact form in flash catalyst including submit button and i need this information to be emailed, when people press the submit button.
does anyone here have the idea what should i do and what is the easiest way????
    please help me on this...

    Hi Faryar,
Emailing a form requires some special setup on your web server. The actual sending of the email is done on the server-side. The SWF you create in Catalyst sends a request to your server, which then sends the email. Unfortunately, you have to be prepared to learn some server-side coding to get this to work.
Here are some resources to help you get started:
    - A tutorial on making web forms: http://www.javascript-coder.com/html-form/how-to-make-a-form.phtml . Note that you'll be doing the actual form UI in Catalyst, instead of HTML (so you can skip those parts).
    - Using the Flex Form control to sending email using PHP on the server: http://cookbooks.adobe.com/post_Submitting_a_Flex_form_using_PHP-8523.html . Note that you're not using the Form control, but this demonstrates how to write the PHP code.
    - A good discussion of this topic. http://www.actionscript.org/forums/showthread.php3?t=181049
    - One cheesy way of doing this without a server is to create a mailto link with the email body pulled from the form. When the user clicks the link, his email client will open up with the email pre-written, but he will still have to send it. I don't really recommend this method as many users don't have mailto configured on their machines. If you do want to do it, you just need to construct a mailto link dynamically from the form contents. Add a "Go to URL" interaction in Catalyst, import the project to builder, and then change the URL to something like this:
    "mailto:[email protected]?subject=Form Submission&body=" + firstNameTextInput.text + ", " + lastNameTextInput.text".

  • Importing a flash Catalyst .swf file in Flash CS5 ?

    Hi,
I found Flash Catalyst by luck while browsing the Adobe website and downloading the Flash CS5 trial...
    One simple question....
Can I import a .swf file created in Flash Catalyst into a Flash CS5 .fla as an element ?
I created a scrolling text attached to a custom made scrolling bar in Flash Catalyst, and I would now like to use it in my Flash CS5 project...
Well, I will be waiting for your responses...
Thanks in advance for your help !
    Gilbert Gour

Unfortunately you can't import an SWF from Flash Catalyst into Flash CS5.  Flash Catalyst uses the Flex Framework for building the its SWF.  Flash CS5 does not use the Flex Framework and doesn't know what to do with that kind of file.  You can load an SWF from Flash CS5 into your Flash Catalyst project, though.

  • FAQ: Where can I download updated lesson files for Flash Catalyst Classroom in a Book?

The format for Flash Catalyst projects changed in version CS5.5. When you open a file that was created in Flash Catalyst CS5 in Flash Catalyst CS5.5, you get a message offering to convert the file to the new format. In the case of most of the lesson files that come with the Flash Catalyst Classroom in a Book, this is a quick, straightforward process. Once it's completed, simply save the converted file with a new name, and you can continue working on the lesson.
A few of the lesson files, however, do not convert successfully. Adobe Press has provided new versions of those files that have been rebuilt in Flash Catalyst CS5.5, and should open without mishap. Otherwise, they are identical to the files provided with the book. Adobe Press apologizes for any invonvenience.
You can download the updated lesson files from the Peachpit website. If you don't already have a Peachpit account, you will need to create one (simply supply an email address, name, and password; you do not need to enter a member code or ISBN number):
    Download the updated lesson files

This may not be the same tutorial, but lesson files are downloadable with it.

    Hope this helps.

  • Opening Flash Catalyst v5 files with v5.5

I am a student and recently purchased the 5.5 suite.  However, the materials provided in the manuals (Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5: Classroom in a Book) were created in Flash Catalyst version 5 and I cannot open them or import them.  Is there any option to do so?  Is Adobe not backwards compatible to at least the previous version?

I think its a no show.
CS4 is way different from CS6. For starters CS4 is 32 bits.

  • Paypal and yahoo checkouts in flash catalyst?

can we set up paypal and yahoo checkouts with shopping cart inside a website created with flash catalyst?

Flash Catalyst doesn't include that capability, so to add advanced funtionality like that to your Flash Catalyst project, you'll need a Flex Developer to import the Flash Catalyst project into Flash Builder to implement the checkout options you desire.

  • Share your Flash Catalyst Work?

    Hi All,
We’re sure you’ve been creating some great work with the Flash Catalyst public beta software. Would you be interested in sharing that work and having it highlighted on the Flash Catalyst team blog and Facebook page? We're hoping to make this Friday, April 9, "Flash Catalyst" day and celebrate your creations.
If you are open to sharing your work, can you send it to us for a quick check first? Please send the final SWF file, AIR app, or link to the page where the work is hosted (we don’t need the source files) to Terry Hemphill, the Flash Catalyst marketing manager, [email protected]
Since the work that would be shared from this Forum is from the Flash Catalyst public beta, there are very few guidelines that you must follow, but here are some suggestions:
    Please DO:
DO post your work created with Flash Catalyst wherever you want—to your blogs, personal web pages, social media sites, portfolio sites—anywhere you and your colleagues share and discuss work
DO label the work as “Created with the  Flash Catalyst public beta”
DO describe how Flash Catalyst has let you accomplish work you couldn’t do before
If you have any questions, please send them to Terry Hemphill directly at [email protected]
    Thanks!
    --Terry H.

really?i only saw the post of sharing website but not really Flash Base website!!!

  • Squiggly Flash Builder Error in Flash Catalyst Generated FXP File

Flash Builder generates the following error message in a Flash Catalyst Generated project with PHP as the server when the Squiggly AdobeSpelling.swc is included in the LIBS folder: "Unable to load AdobeSpelling.swc in design mode" with the result that fds.swc, fiber.swc and serializers.swc do not load in design mode. Squiggly functionality consequently does not work. Any one else with a similar experience with a work around?

Thanks for your report.  We are investigating and will get back to you.
    Thanks.

  • Open a Flash Catalyst file with new Panini?

    Hello,
I put myself under the bracket of a designer, although have the skills to use flash professional, using as3 but have fount using flash catalyst to be a breathe of fresh air as I can stay well away from code and achieve quick basic outcomes. My only issue I have is when getting Panini and now I am itching to use the new features, especially a simple design I have done for a webpage and I need the new resizable feature to completely make it complete.
I realise there is yet the possibility of opening an old file into the new Panini, although in the future there will be... but I kinda need it now and I get the obvious error below:
This preview version of Flash Catalyst Panini cannot upgrade Flash Catalyst CS5 projects. This feature will be enabled in a future build.
To open this project, open the FXP in Flash Builder Burrito, resolve Flash Catalyst compatibility issues, and then Export as a new Flash Builder Project (.FXP)
Now I have Burrito and have stared longaly at the code but don't know where to start, is there anyone who could help me out? I am a student so have no access to a developer as such and the design is only for a friend but would apprecaite the help, not much the way in tutorials on cutting edge tech!
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Can a Flash Builder AIR project be Catalyst compatible?

So, I'm trying to figure out my best workflow.
I have FB 4.5 and Catalyst 1.5. I'm trying to create a desktop app.
I'm looking at Adobe's article on creating a Library project, and it seems that a Catalyst library project and an AIR project are mutually exclusive. Meaning, if I choose Catalyst compatibility I can't choose "Include AIR Libraries" and vice-versa.
Is there some other route I should take?
    Thanks
    Kristin

Yes, FC does not accept projects which has AIR libraries. You might have to separate out the code using AIR APIs into a separate library and then use the original library project to round trip with FC.
    Thanks

  • Unable to run project: illegal character in path - Flash Catalyst CS5.5

Environment is a new install of Windows 7 x64 on a new Dell workstation in an Active Directory environment. Until fall of last year, we used redirected folders for the Application Data folders until issues with Adobe Reader 9.x forced us to abandon that and we reconfigured our network not to use redirected folders. We have not experienced any issues and all programs are using the Application Data folder on the local machines.
Just installed Adobe Master Collection on a new workstation and all Adobe applications are using the C:\Users\cballew\AppData\Roaming\Adobe folder including Flash Catalyst. However, when I try to Run Project in Catalyst, it created a folder named Application Data using the network path to where we used to store the Application Data folder and is saving its workspace there. No other programs (including Adobe products) are doing this. Any ideads of how to fix it?
    Error message:
    Unable to run project
Illegal character in path at index 47: file:///////xxxx.corp/home$/cballew/Application Data/Adobe/Flash Catalysts CS5.5/workspace/Project/bin-debug/Maim.html

This seems to be configured in an ini file located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5.5\configuration\config.ini
    [email protected]/Application Data/Adobe/Flash Catalyst CS5.5/workspace
    [email protected]/Application Data/Adobe/Flash Catalyst CS5.5
    [email protected]/Application Data/Adobe/Flash Catalyst CS5.5/configuration
Can anyone tell me where the variable @user.home is defined and whether I can change it or not? I might find that some of the other applications might experience this same issue

  • Problem Extracting Photoshop elements/gradient in Flash Catalyst to create skin

    Hi,
Is there is any way to get all the psd elements( i.e background gradient), in Flash catalyst. The photoshop files can be opened with different layers but all the
gradient/color portion are getting converted into images.
Excluding catalyst, Do we have any mechanism to create skin file(mxml)from psd files, except the Flex skin extensions.
Please let me know how can we open photoshop file into Catalyst so that its color/gradients won't get convert into image.
    Regards,
    Renu

I took a look at the tutorial PSD file and couldn't find anything wrong with it.
When you save your project file, the only file that it should save is the ecotours_ui.fxp file. The ecotours_site.fxp file was one that was bundled in the tutorial files .zip package.
It shouldn't be a problem that you have the CS3 versions of Photoshop and Flash. As you have said, you are not running them. The lack of RAM could possibly be an issue. Another possibility might be some permissions getting in your way. Have you checked to see if the files or folders that got unzipped will allow you to write to them?

  • Using Flash Catalyst to create components in Flash Builder

    Hi,
Apologies if this is a obvious question, but I wanted to solve the one way catalyst --> flash builder nightmare (there is no better word in my opinion) and create a number of basic components in catalyst (rather than an entire site), import them into flash builder and use them as components that I can extend, thus hopefully avoiding the need to affect the fxp file and prohibiting the catalyst updates. It also means I can have multiple people working on components in catalyst and assemble them into one app in Flash builder.
    My questions are:-
    1. Does what I'm proposing make sense?
    2. Is it possible to create SWC files from a project imported from an fxp file (generated in catalyst)?
Many thanks for all of you who take the time to indulge a newbie like me :-)
    Kind Regards
    Jace

Don't worry about the UI components development since there is a poweful GUI library that works
for the J2ME PP. This is LwVCL that is available here: www.lwvcl.com
See the www.lwvcl.com/online-demo.php demo applet to understand what the components set looks like.
