GWIA agent backup?

I have a SLES server that hosts the GW 8 secondary domain/GWIA and Webaccess agent, what is the best way to backup this server without having to buy groupwise open agent?
Is there a easy way that I can copy the domain files when the MTA is up to a backup folder so that I can use regular backup agent to backup the domain data files?
For GWIA & WebAccess, if there is a problem, do I just install GWIA & WebAccess on it and it should use the GWIA / WebAccess object in eDirectory?

Andy

Whatever method you like. THere is absolutely no need whatsoever for any
special agent.

Have you ever tried it? YOu can copy wpdomain.db whenever you like, with
whatever tool you like. It's not locked under normal operations.

As long as you point the install to the restored wpdomain.db, yes. Note
that some configuration is in other files, for instance gwac.db holds
the access control info of GWIA.

  • Dual GWIA agents

I am running GW7.03HP1 on a NetWare 6.5 server (MTA, POA, GWIA & WebAccess). I created a second GW domain and installed MTA & GWIA on a SLES 10 SP3 server. On the GroupWise System, I set the SECDOM.GWIA2 as the Internet Agent for outbound SMTP/MIME and set the original GWIA (PRIDOM.GWIA) as the alternate Internet agent.
Everything was working fine. However, when I had to reboot both servers at the same time, I brought up the NetWare server that hosts the PRIDOM's MTA, POA, GWIA & WebAccess up, then power on the SLES10 SP3 server that hosts the SECDOM MTA & GWIA2.
However, the SLES GWIA does not become act ive. I have to do 'rcgrpwise stop' and 'rcgrpwise start' and send new messages then the SLES GWIA2 will start route messages again.
I guess my question would be what is the proper order to boot up both GW servers when I have 2 GWIA on the networks?
Should I restart MTAs on both servers and if yes, what would be the proper order to ensure my SLES GWIA2 will still the default Internet agent for GroupWise.
If the SLES GWIA2 has problem, what will trigger the GroupWise system to use the alternate GWIA on the NetWare server?

  • SMD Diagnostics Agent Backup Strategy?

Posting this question here as well as the Solution Manager forum since we're running SAP on the iSeries.
My organization has just started deploying SMD agents across our SAP landscape and we're considering how this new component (the agent) fits in our backup strategy. Should the agents even be included in our periods backups? They're small, easy to reinstall if necessary, and don't store any data, but would have to be re-registered. Any other backup consideration? We're interested in how other organizations have dealt with this question, thanks for your input!

    Hi Robert,
as you already supposed I wouldn't include SMD agents in the backup strategy since they are little and don't store data. What's important is the central Solution Manager System itself. There the data reported by SMD agents is used and stored.
    Best regards,

  • New GWIA on Linux - ConsoleOne does not show all GWIA tabs

    Hi,
Last night I moved a POA and MTA to a new Linux server (SLES 11 sp1 on VMWare), which are running fine. I then had to install the GWIA to this server so I deleted the old GWIA object (which was running on Windows) and then ran the install for the GWIA on Linux. The GWIA agent runs on Linux now - at least according to the monitor on port 9850, but in Consoleone I do not have all the normal tabs associated with the GWIA object - just the "Groupwise" tab. All snap-ins, of course, are there because I can manage all other GW objects without a problem. Any clues? Thanks!

No, no, no. Mapping a drive letter is not the solution. In fact, it fixed itself after apparently running an update process at night. Everything is on the Linux server w/Linux paths in C1 - don't need any stinking drive letter mappings running C1 from the Linux console.

  • GWIA Relay Issue, maybe the SPAMmers authenticated...

So I was greeted with a lovely issue this morning that is really driving me nuts. My mail system was relaying messages from [email protected] using a valid user on my system (MFouch). The IP address that was sending the messages appears to be in Lagos, Nigeria (41.203.64.250). I have been combing my GWIA, MTA, and POA logs and I am not seeing any POP/IMAP/SMTP auth from that IP address. The valid local user that was being abused "C/S dos" login was getting logged but from GWIA's internal IP address. I attached a MIME copy of the message.
My GWIA agent is setup to prevent relaying. I do allow relaying from some specifically defined internal addresses. I do allow POP3 in, but only specific users can use IMAP4 (silly Android issue). I require authentication for both POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP. I ran all of the different open relay tests that I am aware of (abuse.net, mxtoolbox.com) as well as tried to relay something via telnetting to my GWIA. I have attached my current GWIA flags as well. I just added /disallowauthrelay for now as a test/precaution.
I found TID 7008712 that confused, upset, and scared me all at the same time (GroupWise Internet Agents are relaying emails when they're not suppose to be relaying.). If what this TID says is correct, how can I continue to use GroupWise?
It looks like I have stopped the trouble for now. I added /disallowauthrelay as per TID7008712 (which will probably upset a few people). I renamed my gwac.db in case there was some corruption in my SMTP access control list. I changed the abused local user's password. I renamed all of my various GWIA directories (000.PRC, DEFER, GWHOLD, GWPROB, RECEIVE, RESULT, SEND, WPCSIN, and WPCSOUT) just to give me some time to clean out all of the deferrals, send items, and to be sure there is not a message queued somewhere. Members of my team are scanning the two machines this user uses as a precaution. I have also explicitly denied 41.203.64.250 access to my network at my perimeter.
Has any of the great minds out there in the Novell Forum Land seen this before or can point out my buffoonery?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

    Hi.
I'm not quite sure where the uncertainty lies. The user yo uidentified
with the logins from GWIA has been hacked, e.g his password probably was
weak and brute forced, or gained by other means (has this user been in
    nigeria recently? ;))
I also don't quite understand the outrage on the TID. It merely explains
what is logical. If someone can authenticate, he can relay. There's
nothing to be overly concerned about, except your password security. You
may want to activate intruder detection... Of course there are other
means to possibly gat to know a users password, but brute force is the
    usual way...

  • Safari stalls during Time Machine backups

Ever since I upgraded to the combination of OS X 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1 (my workflow is not yet Lion-ready), I've been seeing Safari stall while Time Machine is running its automatic backup. I get the spinner on trying to interact with any tab's content, and then Safari tells me web pages are unresponsive and must all be reloaded (which itself baffles me...why do *all* my 100+ tabs have to be reloaded in this case? Aren't they each an isolated thread now?). This continues throughout the backup. Once the backup is finished, I can tell Safari to reload a tab and everything's fine again.
Other apps will also sometimes become unresponsive during backups, but none as predictably as Safari. Some sites are more likely to start the stall cascade than others (Facebook is the worst culprit, though that may be due to my use of the Better Facebook extension). It's bad enough that I've tweaked the Time Machine settings to back up only every four hours instead of every hour, just so I can get a decent period of time between backups where I can work. (If I let it backup every hour, one backup is barely complete before the next one starts, leaving Time Machine essentially constantly backing up.)
(Based on what advice has come up when I've googled this question, I will point out that Time Machine itself is not freezing. The backups themselves are proceeding normally, though perhaps more slowly than I'd prefer. It's only other apps I'm trying to use while TIme Machine is performing a backup that are freezing.)
I've taken to watching CPU percentage during backups, through iStat Menus, and it never spikes at these times, so it doesn't seem that processor capacity is an issue. The only other thing that comes to mind as a possible cause is disk access speed—could my internal hard drive simply not be fast enough to keep up with both an active backup and the large number of tabs open in Safari at the same time? If so, is there a fix that doesn't involve replacing my internal hard drive?

OK. Problem solved.  Did a total clean install of Lion and stopped using Time Machine altogether.  Using Memeo Life Agent backup app on both Macs and sending backups to a 1 ter network drive.
Found restoring via Time Machine to be unreliable.  Also relized that with Lion and most other apps avilable for clean install via the net, I don't really need to backup my whole system as Time Machine provides.
Both Macs now run really well and no more problems.
Note: When using Memeo with a network dirve make sure to make that drive automatically mounted on startup. You can do this in System Preferences/Users/Login Items.
    Done!

  • Unity Backup Best Practices

We are looking at our Disaster Recovery when it comes to our Unity Voicemail servers and I am looking for some Best Practices when it comes to backing up Unity. Does anyone have any whitepapers/suggestions? Thanks.

if you mean unity backup as in backing up the data, then the suggested method is four fold...
    1) using a backupExec or the likes, with a SQL agent, backup the SQL database(s) on unity.
    2) using a backupExec or the likes, with an Exchange agent, backup the Exchange database(s) used by unity.
    3) using a backupExec or the likes, perform a Windows 2000/2003 full backup including SystemState. (open file option is also available for backupExec)
    4) for DR recovery purposes, using DiRT, backup the unity system.
see this link for more unity backup info:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_white_paper09186a00801f4ba7.shtml
if you mean backing up unity as far as failover, then you can use the link that follows to create a failover environment for your unity:

  • OEM ERROR: Run backup job from Enterprise Maneger failed

After configuring backup policy on my database by means of OEM console (Oracle 9.2, OEM 9.2.0.1) scheduled job failed. Job Output show:
"Could Not Find C:\WINNT\TEMP\3212132705.44]" (square bracket at the end of filename). This file (without bracket) exist and contain rman's script.
But how can I force OEM (or RMAN or other product) remove last square bracket!

I had the same problem of not discovering nodes and teh problem escalated to a point that jobs remained in "submitting" or "deleting" status. I couldn't delete nodes becuase jobs were dependent on it, and couldn't delete jobs because the node was manually configures.
The following steps are by trial and error and got me back to a working status where nodes are discovered. Try them at your own risk :)
Oracle Agent doens't seem to like changing IPs... if your machine IP has changed do the following:
    1. Stop the Agent service (under control panel)
    2. under Oracle's folder, ora92/network/agent, backup all the .q and .ora files and delete them. If it does not allow you to delete, disable the Agent service, reboot the computer and try to delete them
    3. Start the agent service (if you had disabled it, change the startup back to "automatic"
    4. I dropped the OEM repository and recreated it. Not sure if it helped or not, you can do the same or just go ahead and start OMS.
Hope it helps, again, no garantee this works. It did work on my computer.

  • GW2012 SP3 command line recipe.

    Hello there!
At last we have the latest service pack. I waited till this because we have SP1 and I didn't want to do two upgrades. I want to upgrade it in command line without the installers. I have in mind some steps:
    -Stop all agents
-Backup all startup files. Backup apache config
-Copy new dc files if needed comparing with diff all the files (just in case)
-Upgrade all rpms: webaccess, agents, and console one plugin
-[Needed?] Extend schema in Console One?
-[Needed?] rebuild databases by starting agents manually in gui mode.
    -Replace startup files.
    -Start agents again.
Are the [Needed?] steps necessary? Is my only doubt
PD: Novell should provide the procedure to update their products using command line. They only say that we should use the installer and click on install/upgrade new system. I prefer take control of all steps of the process. I could do this with al lot of effort in a previous migration from groupwise 7.0.4 running on a Windows 2003 server to a groupwise 2012 system running on a Sles.

    Thank You !
Ok, I will be more specific. But not a lot there can to be said about this, is not a big deal.
1)I made a backup of all startup files and init.d groupwise script (I tuned it a lot) Rpms scripts won't respect old ones. Also remember make a copy of webaccess.cfg andapache, just in case. In my experience, this patch doesn't overwrite neither webaccess or apache, but who knows. And it is free.
2)Do not stop daemons yet. Because they will be using old binaries and libraries until stop, this guarantees little downtime of service.
    3) Update all rpms at same time because if not dependences will give you problems. First you can try the --test option to see if everything is in place
    Command would be
    Code:
    rpm --test -Uhv internet/gwia/linux/novell-groupwise-gwia-12.0.3-116810.i586.rpm agents/linux/novell-groupwise-agents-12.0.3-116810.i586.rpm agents/linux/novell-groupwise-gwdva-12.0.3-116810.i586.rpm internet/webaccess/linux/novell-groupwise-webaccess-12.0.3-116810.i586.rpm admin/novell-groupwise-admin-12.0.3-116810.i586.rpm admin/novell-groupwise-dbcopy-12.0.3-116810.i586.rpm admin/novell-groupwise-gwcheck-12.0.3-116810.i586.rpm
4)Verify the startup files, overwrite with your copies if necessary.
5)Stop / start daemons. Mine are very slow because I run them with user different than root and POA daemon makes a chown over postoffice directory every time I restart it.

Prior to the weekend's work, the system had been rock solid.
In the past three days, I've had the main email server abend 5 times, all
    due to the POA's GWIMAP-SSL-post-Handler.
In two instances, the server did a double abend before I was able to reboot

We are using Notify-Link's services for our mobile device users and have set
up the system so that their process contacts the POA via IMAP.
Our firewall is set up to block any other outside IMAP requests and none of
our users' clients connect with IMAP.
I read a thread dated from October 2010 that discusses the advantage of
running IMAP traffic against the GWIA, instead of the POA.
This had been recommended to the poster at the 2007 Brainshare event.
Given that we have less than a dozen Notify-link accounts, I can't imagine
that the 8.0.2 version of the POA has become so much more fragile than the
    7.0.4 version.
The server's only duty is the single 450 user postoffice in the system and
    the primary domain.
GWIA duties are handled by another server running a secondary domain and the
    GWIA agent.
A third server runs the webaccess, which also runs against the GWIA's
    secondary domain.
Hardware: Dell Poweredge 860 - single Xeon 3060 CPU, 4GB memory
I'm not sure that it's relevant to the situation, but the only post SP8

  • OCR and voting disks on ASM, problems in case of fail-over instances

    Hi everybody
in case at your site you :
    - have an 11.2 fail-over cluster using Grid Infrastructure (CRS, OCR, voting disks),
where you have yourself created additional CRS resources to handle single-node db instances,
their listener, their disks and so on (which are started only on one node at a time,
    can fail from that node and restart to another);
    - have put OCR and voting disks into an ASM diskgroup (as strongly suggested by Oracle);
then you might have problems (as we had) because you might:
    - reach max number of diskgroups handled by an ASM instance (63 only, above which you get ORA-15068);
    - experiment delays (especially in case of multipath), find fake CRS resources, etc.
    whenever you dismount disks from one node and mount to another;
So (if both conditions are true) you might be interested in this story,
then please keep reading on for the boring details.
One step backward (I'll try to keep it simple).
Oracle Grid Infrastructure is mainly used by RAC db instances,
which means that any db you create usually has one instance started on each node,
and all instances access read / write the same disks from each node.
So, ASM instance on each node will mount diskgroups in Shared Mode,
because the same diskgroups are mounted also by other ASM instances on the other nodes.
ASM instances have a spfile parameter CLUSTER_DATABASE=true (and this parameter implies
that every diskgroup is mounted in Shared Mode, among other things).
In this context, it is quite obvious that Oracle strongly recommends to put OCR and voting disks
inside ASM: this (usually called CRS_DATA) will become diskgroup number 1
and ASM instances will mount it before CRS starts.
Then, additional diskgroup will be added by users, for DATA, REDO, FRA etc of each RAC db,
and will be mounted later when a RAC db instance starts on the specific node.
In case of fail-over cluster, where instances are not RAC type and there is
only one instance running (on one of the nodes) at any time for each db, it is different.
All diskgroups of db instances don't need to be mounted in Shared Mode,
because they are used by one instance only at a time
(on the contrary, they should be mounted in Exclusive Mode).
Yet, if you follow Oracle advice and put OCR and voting inside ASM, then:
    - at installation OUI will start ASM instance on each node with CLUSTER_DATABASE=true;
    - the first diskgroup, which contains OCR and votings, will be mounted Shared Mode;
    - all other diskgroups, used by each db instance, will be mounted Shared Mode, too,
even if you'll take care that they'll be mounted by one ASM instance at a time.
At our site, for our three-nodes cluster, this fact has two consequences.
One conseguence is that we hit ORA-15068 limit (max 63 diskgroups) earlier than expected:
    - none ot the instances on this cluster are Production (only Test, Dev, etc);
    - we planned to have usually 10 instances on each node, each of them with 3 diskgroups (DATA, REDO, FRA),
    so 30 diskgroups each node, for a total of 90 diskgroups (30 instances) on the cluster;
    - in case one node failed, surviving two should get resources of the failing node,
in the worst case: one node with 60 diskgroups (20 instances), the other one with 30 diskgroups (10 instances)
    - in case two nodes failed, the only node survived should not be able to mount additional diskgroups
(because of limit of max 63 diskgroup mounted by an ASM instance), so all other would remain unmounted
    and their db instances stopped (they are not Production instances);
But it didn't worked, since ASM has parameter CLUSTER_DATABASE=true, so you cannot mount 90 diskgroups,
you can mount 62 globally (once a diskgroup is mounted on one node, it is given a number between 2 and 63,
and other diskgroups mounted on other nodes cannot reuse that number).
So as a matter of fact we can mount only 21 diskgroups (about 7 instances) on each node.
The second conseguence is that, every time our CRS handmade scripts dismount diskgroups
from one node and mount it to another, there are delays in the range of seconds (especially with multipath).
Also we found inside CRS log that, whenever we mounted diskgroups (on one node only), then
behind the scenes were created on the fly additional fake resources
of type ora*.dg, maybe to accomodate the fact that on other nodes those diskgroups were left unmounted
(once again, instances are single-node here, and not RAC type).
    That's all.
Did anyone go into similar problems?
We opened a SR to Oracle asking about what options do we have here, and we are disappointed by their answer.
    Regards
    Oscar

    Hi Klaas-Jan
    - best practises require that also online redolog files are in a separate diskgroup, in case of ASM logical corruption (we are a little bit paranoid): in case DATA dg gets corrupted, you can restore Full backup plus Archived RedoLog plus Online Redolog (otherwise you will stop at the latest Archived).
So we have 3 diskgroups for each db instance: DATA, REDO, FRA.
    - in case of fail-over cluster (active-passive), Oracle provide some templates of CRS scripts (in $CRS_HOME/crs/crs/public) that you edit and change at your will, also you might create additionale scripts in case of additional resources you might need (Oracle Agents, backups agent, file systems, monitoring tools, etc)
About our problem, the only solution is to move OCR and voting disks from ASM and change pfile af all ASM instance (parameter CLUSTER_DATABASE from true to false ).
Oracle aswers were a litlle bit odd:
    - first they told us to use Grid Standalone (without CRS, OCR, voting at all), but we told them that we needed a Fail-over solution
    - then they told us to use RAC Single Node, which actually has some better features, in csae of planned fail-over it might be able to migreate
client sessions without causing a reconnect (for SELECTs only, not in case of a running transaction), but we already have a few fail-over cluster, we cannot change them all
So we plan to move OCR and voting disks into block devices (we think that the other solution, which needs a Shared File System, will take longer).
Thanks Marko for pointing us to OCFS2 pros / cons.
We asked Oracle a confirmation that it supported, they said yes but it is discouraged (and also, doesn't work with OUI nor ASMCA).
Anyway that's the simplest approach, this is a non-Prod cluster, we'll start here and if everthing is fine, after a while we'll do it also on Prod ones.

  • How to stop - com.apple.launcd: Throttling respawn Will start in 10 seconds ?

I am running OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 on MacBook Pro Late 2013 with Retina display.
I had installed then removed an application KUsrTSK.app (Kaseya). I noticed this week in Console following process repeatedly running:
com.apple.launchd: (com.kaseya.AgentMon) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
I have tried to look for this command in /Library/LaunchAgents and did not find it.
Someone suggested to run following command in Terminal:
    launchd remove com.kaseya.AgentMon
but no such process was found.
At a suggestion I have downloaded and run EtreCheck.app and have put the detailed results below hoping that it would be helpful for someone to suggest a course of action.

  • Best External Hard Drive with Mavericks Compatibility?

What is the best external hard that's compatible with Mavericks OS X 10.9? I've read about all the problems with the WD drive and am looking for a good alternative. Thanks

    justineppie
Justin, your new HD needs to be formatted for Time Machine in Mac OSX Extended Journaled.
    peter915
Seagate backup plus all the way.  It works on both Windows and Mavericks . Download Paragon NTFS driver
.....Peter, incorrect, Time Machine cannot communicate THRU Paragon, it has to be Mac OSX Ext. Journaled formatted,
    1. There is no such entity as "backup plus", its just a mfg. name given to a HD, it doesnt designate anything.
Terms such as:    "WD Passport, Expansion drive, Seagate Backup Plus, PC hard drive, Mac hard drive, Free agent, backup drive, Passport plus, Elements, Toshiba Canvio, Slim, ultraslim, pocket drive, Touro" etc. etc. ........all these terms,...they dont designate or mean anything.
    2. Any HD will work with PC or Mac
    3. Paragon is for use with a NTFS drive for use with a Mac to communicate with a PC NTFS formatted HD....., not however for Time Machine to do a backup.
    justineppie
For using your new HD for Time machine format it ..... >
    Go to .... > Finder > Go >  Utilities > DISK UTILITY
    enter DISK UTILITY
Format (erase) it in "mac osx Extended journaled"
see from mine below, HD on left selected,   .......ERASE tab highlighted.... and middle right roughly, it says "MAC OSX EXTENDED JOURNALED"
thats the format,  but yours may be different of course
bottom right ERASE tab lets you erase/ FORMAT your external as you like (remember this erases all data ON THE HD)
highlighted in RED   Erase.......format (middle) ...........erase ACTION to Erase/Format (bottom)
To show your HD on your desktop
go into FINDER at top then PREFERENCES  then GENERAL tab
then check "hard disks" and "external disks"
    FORMAT TYPES
    FAT32 (File Allocation Table)
Read/Write FAT32 from both native Windows and native Mac OS X.
    Maximum file size: 4GB.
    Maximum volume size: 2TB
You can use this format if you share the drive between Mac OS X and Windows computers and have no files larger than 4GB.
    NTFS (Windows NT File System)
    Read/Write NTFS from native Windows.
Read only NTFS from native Mac OS X
To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X, here are some alternatives:
For Mac OS X 10.4 or later (32 or 64-bit), install Paragon (approx $20) (Best Choice for Lion)
Native NTFS support can be enabled in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is not advisable, due to instability.
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support NTFS
    Maximum file size: 16 TB
    Maximum volume size: 256TB
You can use this format if you routinely share a drive with multiple Windows systems.
HFS+ ((((MAC FORMAT)))) (Hierarchical File System, a.k.a. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Don't use case-sensitive)
    Read/Write HFS+ from native Mac OS X
Required for Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! backups of Mac internal hard drive.
To Read HFS+ (but not Write) from Windows, Install HFSExplorer
    Maximum file size: 8EiB
    Maximum volume size: 8EiB
You can use this format if you only use the drive with Mac OS X, or use it for backups of your Mac OS X internal drive, or if you only share it with one Windows PC (with MacDrive installed on the PC)
    EXFAT (FAT64)
Supported in Mac OS X only in 10.6.5 or later.
Not all Windows versions support exFAT.
    exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table)
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support exFAT
    Maximum file size: 16 EiB
    Maximum volume size: 64 ZiB
You can use this format if it is supported by all computers with which you intend to share the drive.  See "disadvantages" for details.
