GWTDOMAIN using lots of swaps space in WLE 4.2!!!

We are having problem in one our of non- production environments where the GWTDOMAIN is using lots of swap space and not releasing them. It got so bad that the swap space used was 100% and we had to "kill -9" this GWTDOMAIN and bounce it again to to release this space. Is this a known bug and if not what can I do to resolve this problem
or do we need to open a trouble ticket with BEA to fix.
Thank for your help.

  • How to find which sql or process that is causing lots of swap space

    Hello,
There is a lot of swap space going on constantly. The SGA is 18gigs and PGA is 2 gigs. The swap space is 19gigs. How to find which processes or sql statements that are using a lot of sga and paging? The database is 10.1.0.5. and the tool OEM 10g. Thank you in advance.

v$sort_usage or v$temp_segusage give temporary tablespace usage.
To get PGA memory by session, you could use insteadv$process.

  • /Volumes using lots of disk space

Doing a get info on my server boot drive shows its using 53Gb of space which seemed very high to me considering what is on there
    So I ran the command
    sudo du -chxd 1 /
it reported that /Volumes was using 39Gb
Obviously I don't just want to remove what is in there as it is all the mounted volumes and I don't want to risk deleting data on them
how can I clear out this phantom data?

/Volumes contains entries for every mounted volume on your computer, so if you have any external hard disks, CDs, DVDs, or additional partitions they are show up in /Volumes and will therefore be included in that figure. What's more the actual boot drive itself also shows up in /Volumes. However normally this should not be an issue because the du (diskspace usage) command is clever enough to know the difference between files on one drive/volume/partition or another.
What I have seen happen however on a server providing network home directories is a crash to upset entries in the /Volumes directory. What happens is that normally you have an additional volume mounted on your server, lets say it is called Users this will therefore show up in /Volumes as /Volumes/Users this is then shared by the server and network login accounts store their home directories in this. Lets say there is then a crash on the server, because there has been a crash the normal shutdown process has not occurred and as a result the normal steps that 'unmount' this volume have not occurred. Therefore when the server is rebooted the folder /Volumes/Users still exists. What can happen then is that the auto-mount process will 'mount' the volume against a new entry called /Volumes/Users-1 even though it still shows in the Finder as just having the name Users. In fact if you connected two volumes at the same time with the same name the same thing happens.
At this point we now have two entries in /Volumes one called /Volumes/Users which is a left over from before the crash, and the new live entry which is called /Volumes/Users-1 the problem is that Open Directory is telling the users to access and store their network home directories in /Volumes/Users and that left over folder is being automatically shared by the server. Therefore when a user logs in they start automatically putting files in that leftover folder which is actually on the boot drive and no longer corresponds to the second volume.
Potentially several Gigabytes of data could end up in their incorrect entry.
You need to see what stuff in /Volumes is actually making up your disk space use. You can do this by the following command
    sudo du -achx /Volumes
This should list all files/folders on the boot drive that are in /Volumes but exclude files stored on mounted drives.

  • Cisco Prime 4.1 Swap Space Issues

We have a issue where Cisco Prime 4.1 is using alot of swap space. We have 16 Gigs for it and it will use most of it. Also I am running out of Drive Space. I have all of my pruge settings correct, but still having issues. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Which Server OS is it? Windows or Solaris or an OS on VM?
How do you determing if Swap is taken? Swap is allocated space in memory/RAM and processes are switched to it by scheduler when not in run state. Do you mean your memory utilization is high?
For Disk Space, you have to again share which directory is taking up space?
Ideally LMS has following directories which may take a lot of space :
    > NMSROOT/log directory where a lot of logs can take up the disk space. You can use Log Rotation to free the space. For instant release of disk space, you can stop daemon manager and delete logs from there and start it back.
    ** Log directory :
    Windows : NMSROOT/log
    Solaris : var/adm/CSCOpx/log
    > Directory where LMS saves the device configuration, it gradually takes up a lot of space and hence you should do some instant purge to for archived configuration and change audit data.
    ** Log directory :
    Windows : NMSROOT/files/rme/dcma/devfiles
    Solaris : /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/rme/dcma/devfiles
    > Also, if your LMS installation is running since many years, there are chances you have a lot of jobs history. You should also do purge or instant purge to these jobs.
For details on Purge settings check document here.

  • SWAP space on AIX

    Hi all,
I have prod and test on the same server on AIX 5.3 box. And application is 11i. It's not a good config but thats the way it is here. And for the last 6 months or so we are getting PGSP_KILL error in AIX log files. My server RAM is 8GB and as per Metalink docs, i first set SWAP SPACE to 0.75 times the RAM but still the same problem. Now i have set SWAP SIZE to same size of RAM(8GB). Still getting the same problem mainly when copying files to tape or taking cold backup. After this happens we get famouus FRM-92050 Failed to connect to server: xxxx.xxxx:9000. ans users can't login.
I have gone thru many metalink docs. But plz recommend me to as what swap size should i set. Or find the offending process which is taking more resources. In errpt is shows FNDLIBR is process which is consuming lot of swap space. But i dont know what to do now.

Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing. I am using a brand new IMAC, I have 16GB RAM recently updated as it was running slow with 8GB and lots of hardrive space. When it crashes, i lose all my presents and it changes my preferences, it also fails to save or produce a recovered file despite settings asking it to do so every 5 mins now. When i try to report the problem, it says it has found an issue and gives me a link to a solution....but wont let me click on the link.... PLEASE HELP! It's killing my productivity.

If the crash started right after you added RAM, it could be a bad Ram dimm. You can try this - change the amount of RAM in Photoshop to 4G, this should stop Photoshop from using the higher ram. If it doesn't crash, it's probably the ram. Or run a diagnostic app. You don't say when it crashes, what you're doing when it crashes - it there a pattern? Did it ever work on this computer? Did it work on your previous computer? Without a lot of data, it could be related to the new computer... What OS version? Did you recently update it? Have you updated Photoshop to the most recent update?
Do you have any plug-ins loaded? Try restarting Photoshop, and immediately press & hold the shfit key to turn off plug-ins.

Database Instance Using Swap Space When There is Plenty of Free RAM metalink note [ID 761960.1]
and tried the disabling the sga_max_size and memory_max_target and memory target with all different combination but no use.
We have one more box where same setup was configured in solaris platform but there the above memory parameters are not disabled but it is not using swap space it takes memry only from physical RAM
Can any one throw some lights on this issue. It wopuld be great if I come to know where the exact problem
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I didn't say I am not using 11gr2 memory parameters I am using all the automatic memory parameters but the thinks is as per the metalink note I tried by disabling the automatic memory parameters. but that didn't help me in preventing unnecessary swap usage. So I reverted. now it is using automatic memory parameters.
so What is the solution for this?

  • Does Spotlight use a lot of disk space?

I'm new to Macs — in fact, my first one hasn't arrived yet — and I'm wondering if Spotlight will tie up a lot of disk space? I'm getting a MacBook Pro with a 100GB drive (modest by desktop standards), and I've noticed that Windows search products (e.g., Google Desktop, MSN Desktop) can create 3-5 GB of data after indexing even a modest 30GB hard drive. If Spotlight is going to "waste" gigs of space on my limited laptop drive, I might look into disabling it. Thanks.

Do not worry about it. On my book disk (100Gb with 60Gb occupied) spotlight uses the following space:
    big:~ mtsouk$ ls -l /.Spotlight-V100/

  • Using Swap space

    Hi All
I have an application consisting of lots of processes. When ever I start my applicaiton, I seem to be running out of swap space. I see that there is a lot of reserved space. Means the applications are attaching shm and/or requesting mallocs. Is there any way to fix this, either by debug by some mem tool or by any compiler options? I am running this on Solaris 10 with binaries compiled in sun studio 11 compiler set.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi All
I have an application consisting of lots of
processes. When ever I start my applicaiton, I seem
to be running out of swap space. How are you viewing this?
    I see that there is
a lot of reserved space. Means the applications are
attaching shm and/or requesting mallocs. Also, just the forking will need to reserve space as well.
    Is there any
way to fix this,I don't see that anything is broken. What are you trying to fix? You need memory to run lots of programs. Have you tried increasing the swapfiles on the machine? That will handle increased reservation requirements.

  • Observation: SAP uses swap space even when OS has available unused memory

    Hi Folks,
It is my understanding that any memory not used by the Linux OS itself or the SAP application is available for Linux to use for I/O buffers and file caching.  When the SAP application requires more memory I would expect Linux to take memory away from itself (release I/O buffer and/or file caching memory).
We have observed that SAP uses swap space even when there is  memory available.  Is there some feature in SAP kernel or some ABAP construct that causes SAP to prefer swap space over available memory?  Or maybe there is a Linux kernel setting that influences SAP's use of swapping.
    Regards,
    Zaz

    Hi Mike
You did not mention which distribution you have. Under SLES there is is a parameter called SWAPPINESS, which controls the buffering/swapping.
    cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
If you don't already know, you can see the memory usage with the free command.
    root # free -m
total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
    Mem:          7987       7901         85          0        364       4262
    -/+ buffers/cache:       3274       4712
    Swap:        15999          0      15999
As far as i know, in this example 3274 is memory used by SAP and other processes and 4712 is cache. Please correct me if i am wrong.
    Regards
    Michael
Edit: a low swappines, for example 10 means to reduce cache first, a high swappiness (example 100) means page out processes first

  • How to find Oracle is using swap space or not?

    Hi,
I have a SuSe Linux database server on which 2 Oracle 10g databases and one MySQL server is running.
I can see a very little swap space is being used in the server while there is almost 100% RAM utlization.
I want to know if my Oracle databases are using swap or not. If it is using, how much of swap being used currently by each Oracle database?
Can someone please guide me on how to do that?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
