  • JTree cell renderer: how to fill whole row?

    hi,
    i'm trying to make a tree cell renderer that renders at default height, but fills the horizontal width of the tree (e.g. with a JLabel with a custom background color). I'm working on the theory that in order to do this you need to change the preferred size of the component used to stamp the image at render time.
    The problem is that the preferred width then needs to be set to a value that depends on the context of the particular node (e.g. a deeply nested child node will be further to the right than the root node).
    I can't seem to find a method to say where the rendering starts though - does anyone know a way?
    (also if not then would setting the width to some astronimcal value break anything?)

    Try this one, it will higlight the background and foreground colors of entire rows.

  • JTree custom renderer setting selection background color problem

    Hi,
    I have a JTree with a custom icon renderer that displays an icon. The JTree is part of a TreeTable component. Iam having a problem setting the selection background uniformly for the entire row. There is no problem when there is no row selected in the JTable.
    My present code looks like this:

                  I have a color I arrive at using some algorithm that I want using method getRowSelectionColor(). The other cells in the row have this color. But the cell containing the tree node shows different color. Iam not able to arrive at the right combination of the color to set and the xor color so my tree node also looks like the other cells in the row.
    It is not a problem really as the table still looks good. Its just that the tree node looks like it has been highlighted and this might cause a problem when a table cell is highlighed later on in the application ( two cells in the row would be highlighted causing confusion).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply. Iam sorry I didn't include the sources the first time around. There were too many of them. I have created a small, self-contained, compilable program that demonstrates the problem and including it herewith. Still there's quite many files but they are all needed Iam afraid. The only one you will have to concern yourself fior this problem is the file IconRenderer.java. The treenode background and the other cells background are not in sync when table row is not selected in this example though. But they are in my real program. I just need them to be in sync i.e have the same background color when the row is selected.
    Your help would be very much appreciated.

  • Mapping JTree to an Access Database

    First of all, I am very new to using JTree.
    Second, I was able to create a JTree using QueryDataSet from an Access database (using JBuilder).
    The database table has the following structure:
    NodeID, ParentNodeID and Name.
    NodeID is unique.
    the problem I am facing is how to bind or map each node created to the corresponding NodeID, while I am displaying the Name field as the userObject of the node?
    I want to know this in order to retrieve information from the database regarding the selected node, and can only do that with the NodeID since there are duplicate names for the "Name" field.

    Build a class to put all the db values:

    I guess you will previously sort ascending the access table on the parentID field, in order to easily build the tree.
    When you read from the database, create MyNode instances and fill in the values, and set in teh TreeNode the user object like:
    MyTreeNode mtn = new MyTreeNode(new MyNode(20,3,"OneNode"));
    or
    mtn.setUserObject(new MyNode(20,3,"OneNode"));
    From this structure, you will easily build any popups or actions responding to click events on the tree branches, by simply requesting the user object of the node, and reading its properties.

  • Help with JTree and JList

    Hi everybody!
    My problem is this:
    I have in a panel a JTree. This tree has a root and several children called GROUPs. Every GROUP has several children called MODULEs. Every MODULE have several children called RULEs.
    The JTree is already constructed with a function that I have implemented and that reads the data necessary to fill the tree.
    What I would like to get, and I do not know how, is that when I press with the mouse in "Root" I can see a list, on the right side of the tree, with all the GROUPs that it contains. Besides, when I press with the mouse in a GROUP I can see the list of MODULEs that it contains. And finally that when I press with the mouse in a MODULE I can see the RULEs that it contains.
    I think that it is done by using listeners and so on, but actually I do not understand well how it works.
    I would be very grateful whether any of you could show me a piece of code (at least some guidelines) of the function that I would have to implement. And of course, a little bit of explanation about the use of listeners and so on that are necessary to do these kind of things.
    I am a total begginer and I need your help.

  • How can i refresh a jtree using DefaultMutableTreeNode?

    I already create a jtree using DefaultMutableTreeNode, and i also could implement to it the addMouseListener to do a action when the user press every node......Also i used the following instruction to remove all nodes: root_tree.removeAllChildren(); and it instruction remove all the nodes....but when i :
    fill the tree
    compile my program
    i see the tree in my jpanel....it is Ok!
    now.....
    fill the tree
    remove the tree
    compile my program
    i see only the root (this i wish) it is Ok!
    But now i would like that after that i press a combo element (in the actionperformed method):
    remove the tree
    fill the three with the new nodes
    show the tree
    But my tree always is the same :(......is like it to need a repaint ....but i already implement it...but i obtain the same result.....
    Do somebody have any suggestion...or idea how i can do a refresh in my jtree?....

    I am trying to create a JTree whose data will come from a XML Document. Whenever the tree is refreshed (There is a JPopupMenu on the tree which allows the user to call refresh), the tree must update itself with the underlying XML document. If there is any change in the xml doc, it must be reflected in the tree. However, the tree must not collapse when the refresh is called. For example if I have a tree like this:-

  • JTree rendering failure : big empy space displayed

    Hello,
    I have a problem using a JTree with jdk 1.5 update 10. I could not find anything in the bug database that seemed to link to this problem.
    I have created a JTree that displays the content of a directory under a root node (displayed). I have created my own renderer to customize the labels and i use a TreeModel to add and remove nodes.
    The problem (possibly a known bug): sometimes (it actually seems to be completely random), the Ttree "fails" rendering one of the label, resulting in a big white space instead of the usual label (icon + file name). Other labels in the tree are displayed correctly. The "big white label" can be selected and correctly links to the file it represents (information about the file is displayed correctly). All in all, everything works perfectly fine except one item is displayed as a big empty label.
    Is there any chance this could be a java bug ? If not is there any way i could know what causes this failure ?

    I am having the identical problem and its driving me crazy. This started happening to me after I installed new hard drives and reinstalled the OS. I then transfered all the old settings from the old drive. Everything else seems to work perfectly. If you get anywhere with this let me know.

    My goal: To import some pictures into iMovie. Maby
    add ken burns efects to them, add a bit of narration
    and some music, edit everything and export.
    The problem: Let say I use the following method: i
    click Media tab, then i click photos, then i select
    the photo, and in the Photo Settings click apply.
    iMovie then imports the photo, puts it in the
    timeline and then the dark red bar bellow apears (the
    one that would means rendering). The problem is,
    there is no light red getting over it (that would
    indicate rendering in progress). It's the same if i
    click and drag a photo into the clip browser (only
    the dark red is displayed on the bottom of the
    thumbnail). If i try to quit iMovie it warns me that
    rendering is in progress.
    It doesn't matter how big a photo is (i tried
    300x200px, 800x500px, 1500x1000px, 3000x2000px) or
    what format (jpg, tiff, png).
    I tried restarting the application and the sistem. I
    created another user to try if anything changes. I
    erased the preferences. I even tried copying the
    whole application from frend's computer (the same
    version and all). The dark red bar doesn't start to
    fill red (i checked in the terminal how much
    processor does it eat and it's on 7%, so it probablly
    means it's doing nothing)
    I have a 2Ghz, 2GB of ram Macbook 13" Intel core duo.
    I have 67 GB of space left (format: Mac-os extended -
    journaled), running OS-X 10.4.8 and updated to the
    latest updates. iMovie version is 6.0.3 (267.2).
    What else is there to do? Would reinstalling the
    whole sistem help and is there a way to keep all of
    my preferences and mail accounts and contacts, … in
    case i have to do that?

  • Rendering alternate colors in JTree

    I have a JTree within a scrollpane.
    What I would like to do is have every alternate line on the JTree rendered with one of 2 colors, i.e. line 1 is blue, line 2 is yellow, line 3 is blue etc.
    The tricky bit is that I want this color to fill the width of the scrollpane - changing the background of the JLabel color in the renderer will only update from the tree node to the right of the scrollpane (it leaves the area to the left of the node blank).
    Am I making any sense?

  • Making JTree custom renderer panel scalable

    Hi, everyone. I have made custom TreeCellRenderer which extends JPanel. Panel's background is in different color than JTree's backgound. I need to get my panel rendering the nodes to fill the whole space JTree has in it's parent panel horizontally. For now I have put static width to nodes and it looks fine, but it's not scalable. If I don't put any sizes the panel takes only the size it needs in cell and the outfit is crappy because of panel's different bgcolor. Is there any easy way to make rendering panel use the width which JTree has in it's container. I have implemented getPreferredSize() method in custom TreeCellRenderer and now it returns the static width and height of the rendering panel. Do I have to get JTrees container panel's width every time and pass it to renderer and get size somehow from there or is there some easier way.

    Yes, there is a reason. Different levels of nodes contain different components. Example main level nodes have print and save buttons on the most right of the panel. Only leafs have same bgcolor as the tree has and those are already now scalable, because size is not set for them.

  • How can I view the newly added node in a JTree

    I used insertNodeInto() to inser a new node into the tree, and it can be displayed. But when I used addTreeSelectionListener() to click on the newly added node, it cann not reaspond the click. Following is my original addTreeSelectionListener(). You see, if you click a node of FARInfo, then it will open a form, and after user filled in and submit it, a new node will be added into the Jtree. If you click a node of FilledInfo, then the user should view the content of this new node. But now, it seems that the sencond click cannot work. Thanks for your help.

  • JCheckBox used in a JTree Displaying Wrong

    I have a class that creates a JTree and sets the node to a JCheckBox. The checkboxes appear fine except for the fact that instead of the JCheckBoX name appearing next to the actual checkbox the JCheckBox values appear instead. I found a topic in the the forum that touches this problem but gives no solution.
    If someone could tell me what i am doing wrong that would be great! Any help would be appreciated. My class is posted below......

    Perhaps this will help somebody.
    When you fill in the nodes (in createNodes), it is not necessary to provide a JCheckBox for each one; just an object whose toString() method will provide the text to the nodes.
    When rendering each cell, set the corresponding text to the JCheckBox.
    I rewrite the TreeCR class and createNode method of the above example, taking this into account:
