H/W & Data migration form AS 400/DB2 V5 R4 to Unix/Linux and Oracle

We are considering migration of huge data(in Terabytes) from AS 400/DB2 V5 R4 to Unix/Linux and Oracle.
We are changing operating system and data base also..Please advise if R98403 can be used to move data in terabytes.
I understand Oracle work bench does not support V5 R4.
I would like to know pointers on possible tools and approach for the migration.
Thanks
Las

Hi,
May I know the reason for this huge change? As most of the current setups of E1 are on AS00 only. Then also if you are planning to migrate your hardware and data from DB2/OS400 to Orcle and Unix/Linux you can consider below options for data migration:
1) R98403 and R98403A are best approach for this type of migration it may consule some extra time but accurate..! As no other tools like Oracle Workbench can
provide 100% accuracy.
2) Archive data size if possible with the help of BA team and work on some purging this will help you to great level.
3) If you decide to go live on new setup please consider going live module wise as a specific module data can be moved fast, and if BA team can specify some specific tables only getting hit for module trasection they can develop TC reports for specific data to be migrated and can save your time instead of copying entire data set again at go live.
Good Luck..!
Thanks,
Manoj Kathare

  • Historic data migration (forms 6i to forms 11g)

    Hello,
We have done a migration from Forms 6i to Forms 11g. We are facing a problem with the historic data for a download/upload file
utility. In forms 6i the upload/download was done using OLE Container which has become obsolete, the new technology being webutil.
We had converted the historic data from Long RAW to BLOB (by export/import & by the TO_LOB) and while opening them it throws a
message or not able to open. This issue exists for all types of documents like .doc, .docx, .html, .pdf. We are unable
to open the documents after downloading to local client machines.
One option which works is to manually download the documents (pdf, doc etc) from the older version of forms 6i (OLE) and
upload it to the forms 11g (Webutil). Is there any way this can be automated?
    Thanks

    Hi Rajesh,
Thanx for your interesting reply, however i would like to clarify my setup.
Client OS = Red Hat 8.0
    Browser = Mozilla 1.0.1
    Java = SDK 1.4.1.01
Using this setup, everything is working real fine and fast.

  • Data Transfer between AS400(Linux) and Oracle(Windows Server)

    Hi,
We have AS400 system which resides on Linux architecture.
We want to transfer millions of records from AS400 to Oracle which resides on Windows server.
We think to build Odbc connection on windows machine and accessing to AS400 data from this connection.
But I am not sure the performance of this approach.
I would be glad if you share your experiences.
    Regards & Thanks

    Hi,
ODBC is generally pretty slow in my experience - your alternatives are probably one of the following
    1) use odbc maybe with heterogeneous services on top (this allows you to have a database link directly from oracle to db2)
    2) use a transparent gateway - similar to 1) but has more functionality and will have a licence cost
    3) write some c/java program to do it
    4) dump the data to a flat file, transfer to windows, sqlldr that file in
It all comes down to how good the performance needs to be (ODBC may be good enough) and how much effort needs to be put i to other approaches.
I suggest you just give odbc a try, if it looks like its not up to the job then consider alternatives. In the past we've used option 4 for this kind of thing but it is very dependent on the environment you are running in (amount/type of data, speed of network etc).

  • Data migration ALE or idocs and bapis

    hi ,
thank you guys for the support.
i am into a data migration project.
i need the initial setup for the idocs and bapis.
i dont know anything about these so can u send me the process for the setup and the data migration process too with idocs and bapis.
i didnt understand when they asked me if we can data migrate with a ALE, is that the same as using idocs and bapis or is it a different approach.
u can send me at any inofrmation connected to my eamil addr.
    i would really appreciate that.
    thank you.

    Hi,
    Outbound:
Step 1. Application document is created when transaction is saved.
    2. Message control is invoked.
    3. Messages are processed by system.
    4. Messages are Edited (if desired).
    5. Output (ALE / EDI) is checked
    6. Validate against Message control record from Partner Profile
    7. Application Document is saved.
    8. Entry NAST table is created for every selected output program
    along with Medium & Timing.
    9. Check for Process Immediately .
    If (yes)
Determine Processing Program from TNAPR Table.
    ELSE
    Execute RSNASTED Program.
    10. Read Partner Profile to determine Process Code.
    11. Process Code points to the Function Module & Invoked.
    12. IDoc is generated.
    13. Check for ALE Request.
    if (Yes)
Perform Filters, Conversions, Version Changes etc.
    Else.
    IDoc is stored in DATABASE.
    INBOUND:
Step 1. EDI Subsystem creates an IDoc file from EDI Messages
    2. Subsystem calls Functional Module EDI_DATA_INCOMING from startRFC program.
    3. Data in Control Record is validate against the Partner Profile.
    4. IDoc is generated in Database and syntax check is carried out.
    5. IDoc file is deleted once file read.
    6. Event PROCESSSTATE REACHED is triggered in Idoc Object Workflow.
    7. Check for Process Immediately.
    If NO
    Execute RBDAPP01 Program

The BAPI Change() changes an existing instance of an SAP business object type, for example, a purchase order. The BAPI Change () is an instance method.
Delete( ) and Undelete( ) The BAPI Delete() deletes an instance of an SAP business object type from the database or sets a deletion flag.
The BAPI Undelete() removes a deletion flag. These BAPIs are instance methods.
Cancel ( ) Unlike the BAPI Delete(), the BAPI Cancel() cancels an instance of a business object type. The instance to be cancelled remains in the database and an additional instance is created and this is the one that is actually canceled. The Cancel() BAPI is an instance method.
Add<subobject> ( ) and Remove<subobject> ( ) The BAPI Add<subobject> adds a subobject to an existing object inst! ance and the BAPI and Remove<subobject> removes a subobject from an object instance. These BAPIs are instance methods.

    Bdc to Bapi
The steps to be followed are :
    1. Find out the relevant BAPI (BAPI_SALESORDER_CHANGE for VA02).
    for VA01 use BAPI_SALESORDER_CREATEFROMDAT2
    2. Create a Z program and call the BAPi (same as a Funtion module call).
    2. Now, if you see this BAPi, it has
    -> Importing structures.
eg: SALESDOCUMENT: this will take the Sales order header data as input.
    -> Tables parameters:
eg: ORDER_ITEM_IN: this will take the line item data as input.
    Note :
Only specify fields that should be changed
Select these fields by entering an X in the checkboxes
Enter a U in the UPDATEFLAG field
Always specify key fields when changing the data, including in the checkboxes
The configuration is an exception here. If this needs to be changed, you need to complete it again fully.
Maintain quantities and dates in the schedule line data
    Possible UPDATEFLAGS:
    U = change
    D = delete
    I = add
    Example
    1. Delete the whole order
    2. Delete order items
    3. Change the order
    4. Change the configuration
    Notes
    1. Minimum entry:
You must enter the order number in the SALESDOCUMENT structure.
You must always enter key fields for changes.
You must always specify the update indicator in the ORDER_HEADER_INX.
    2. Commit control:
The BAPI does not run a database Commit, which means that the application must trigger the Commit so that the changes are read to the database. To do this, use the BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT BAPI.
For further details... refer to the Function Module documentation for the BAPi.
    Bapi to VB(Visual Basic)
Long back I had used the following flow structure to acheive the same.
    Report -> SM59 RFC destination -> COM4ABAP -> VB.exe
my report uses the rfc destination to create a COM session with com4abap. com4abap calls the vb.exe and manages the flow of data between sap and vb exe.
    You need to have com4abap.exe
If com4abap is installed you will find it in sapgui installatin directory , C:\Program Files\SAPpc\sapgui\RFCSDK\com4abap.
else refer OSS note 419822 for installation of com4abap
after making the settings in com4abap to point to the vb program and setting up rfc destination in sm59 to point to com4abap session , you can use the following function modules to call the vb code.
for setting up com4abap and rfc destination please refer to the documentation for com4abap.
    Invoke NEW DCOM session
    call function 'BEGIN_COM_SESSION'
    exporting

    importing

  • Data migration tools in sap

    hi,
i am newbie to s.a.p nd i got ma project related to data migration. we are taking data from legacy system to sap database. we are using a tool called cransoft. what about the future of this tool. how to plan my career in this data migration.need help from experienced persons. im a sap abap resource actually. im having practically no work using abap in this project.im very much concerned about ma career.help me out...
    thank you

    >>will my career depend on the tool im working in or it depends on data migration only
That is something which depends upon how much and what kind of experience you have, if you are an expert in one tool, then your career basically depends on it, but if you understand the concept and have good experience in multiple tools, then you will have broader domain.
In consulting, it is much easier to be an expert in one tool, you are not tied to one client and can find project somewhere else.
But if you are a permanent employee, then it helps to adjust your skillset as per the changing environment.
Having said that, you don't have to go after every tool in the market, try to diversify as per your interests and the market need.
Talking specifically about BODS, i have seen quiet a few clients using or planning to use it so its future looks bright, but then again, future can always change.
    Thanks

  • Offline data migration fails for BLOB field from MySQL 5.0 to 11g

I tried to use standalone Data Migration several years ago to move a database from MySQL to Oracle. At that time it was unable to migrate blob fields. I am trying again, hoping this issue might have been fixed in the mean time. That does not appear to be the case. The rows in question have a single BLOB field (it is a binary encoding of a serialized Java object, containing on the order of 1-2K bytes, a mixture of plain text and a small amount of non-ASCII data which is presumably part of the structure of the Java object). The mysqldump appears to correctly store the data, surrounded by the expected <EOFD> and <EORD> separators. The data as imported consists of a small (roughly 1-200) ASCII characters, apparently hex encoded, because if I do a hex dump of the mysqldump I can recognized some of the character pairs that appear in the blob field after import. However, they are apparently flipped within the word or otherwise displaced from each other (although both source and destinations machines are x86 family), and the imported record stops long before all the data is encoded.
For example, here is a portion of the record as imported:
    ACED0005737200136A6
and here is a hex dump of the input
    0000000 3633 3838 3037 3c39 4f45 4446 303e 3131
    0000020 3036 3830 3836 453c 464f 3e44 312d 453c
    0000040 464f 3e44 6e49 7473 7469 7475 6f69 446e
    0000060 7461 3c61 4f45 4446 ac3e 00ed 7305 0072
    0000100 6a13 7661 2e61 7475 6c69 482e 7361 7468
    0000120 6261 656c bb13 250f 4a21 b8e4 0003 4602
    0000140 0a00 6f6c 6461 6146 7463 726f 0049 7409
    0000160 7268 7365 6f68 646c 7078 403f 0000 0000
AC ED appears in the 5th and 6th word of the 4th line, 00 05 in the 6th and 7th words, etc.
I see explicit references to using hex encoding for MS SQL and other source DB's, but not for mysql.
I suspect the encoder is hitting some character within the binary data that is aborting the encoding process, because so far the records I've looked at contain the same data (roughly 150 characters) for every record, and when I look at the binary input, it appears to be part of the Java object structure which may repeat for every record.
    Here is the ctl code:
    load data
    infile 'user_data_ext.txt' "str '<EORD>'"
    into table userinfo.user_data_ext
    fields terminated by '<EOFD>'
    trailing nullcols
    internal_id NULLIF internal_id = 'NULL',
    rt_number "DECODE(:rt_number, 'NULL', NULL, NULL, ' ', :rt_number)",
    member_number "DECODE(:member_number, 'NULL', NULL, NULL, ' ', :member_number)",
    object_type "DECODE(:object_type, 'NULL', NULL, NULL, ' ', :object_type)",
    object_data CHAR(2000000) NULLIF object_data = 'NULL'
    )

It looks like the data is actually being converted correctly. What threw me off was the fact that the mysql client displays the actual blob bytes, while sqlplus automatically converts them to hex for display, but only shows about 2 lines of the hex data. When I check field lengths they are correct.

  • How to join data from SAP BW and Oracle database from Webi?

    Hi,
Need to  create a Web Intelligence Report connecting to multiple data sources.
Ø SAP-BW contains the data (All units).
Ø Oracle db contains the access security data (respective units
    for the user).
Since Universe can only connect to a single data-source we have to create two universes connecting to SAP-BW and Oracle db respectively and then create a webi report to point the two universes to retrieve the equi-join data on the report.
May I know which layer I can join the data? What kind of data I can join?
Can I merge dimensions from both the data sources? What about measures?
How I can create SQL query in Webi in order to simulate the join to the two data source?
    Appreciate any info related.
    thanks and regards
    nora

    Hi Nora,
You can use Data Federator technology to federate multi-sources such as SAP BW and Oracle.
Las you just have to create a universe on the Data Federator data source and the universe isee the data source as a single source whereas it is not.
Then any clainet that consume uninverses can take advantage of this solution.

  • Data migration from Forms to Reports

    Hello,
Does anyone know how to migrate numerous data from Oracle forms to reports, without using parameter lists or parameters, and also withour the use of temporary tables since my platform is 8.0.6 and forms 4.5?
    Thanks for any replies

    hi daniel,
you could write your data from forms into a text file. seperate
the values using for example a comma (or something else).

  • Seamless data migration between forms and other adobe products

How can I migrate data from a form to complete a pdf fillable form (such as a contract) and then send to echosign in an automated process?

    Hi;
If this question is related to PDF forms created in Acrobat, and not related to FormsCentral you should post (or I can move to) the Acrobat Forms Forums: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/forms
If it is about FormsCentral, there is nothing in FormsCentral that supports automated data migration.
    Thanks,

  • JDBC receiver adapter for AS/400 DB2

    Hi guys,
We have developed an Idoc to JDBC scenario for inserting data in a Z-table of SAP R/3 that sits on an AS/400 DB2.
When testing it, message Mapping is executed successfully, but in communication channel monitoring, we get the following error log:
Error while parsing or executing XML-SQL document: Error processing request in sax parser: Error when executing statement for table/stored proc. 'ZSBU_MATERIALS' (structure 'STATEMENT'): java.sql.SQLException: [SQL0204] ZSBU_MATERIALS in SBU type *FILE not found.
The Z-table name is correct. It seems to me that it needs something more (like a library name).
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
There is a difference between db2..and db2 on as400 as on as400 db2 comes as part of the OS install itself..See if you can connect to db2 on the as400 system from qshell..
If you really want to manually configure the connection via the DB2 command line, then you will need to enter catalog commands similar to the following:
       1. > db2 catalog tcpip node as400 remote as400.somecompany.com server 446
       2. > db2 catalog db as400db at node as400 authentication dcs
       3. > db2 catalog dcs db as400db as mydbsvr
Where "as400db" is your local alias for the database and "mydbsvr" is the local RDB name of the AS/400 (set via WRKRDBDIRE).
If you catalogued the DB2 for i5/OS server incorrectly, you may get an SQL5048N error message. SQL7008N is another common error is that the DB2 for i5/OS tables being accessed on the server are not being journaled. To correct the SQL7008N error, you need to start journaling your tables or change the isolation level to No Commit.

  • How can i Migrate a database from DB2 to SQL Server 2008r2.

    Hi Gurus,
Kindly help me letting me know the process for migrating the database from DB2 to SQL Server.
    1) Is there any way to migrate a database from DB2 to SqlServer. (My assumption is we can not migrate database, if wrong correct me gurus).
    2) Or we can only transfer data from that DB2 database to SQL Server (Using SSIS packages).
Please help me knowing the process to migrate the data from DB2 server to MSSQL server. Even am reading the documents available in the web.
    Thanks in advance.. :)

Microsoft provide a migration assistant for DB2 to SQL Server:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45296
SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) is a free supported tool from Microsoft that simplifies database migration process from DB2 to SQL Server and Azure SQL DB. SSMA automates all aspects of migration including migration assessment analysis, schema and
SQL statement conversion and data migration.
    Hope that helps

  • Data Migration from SQL server best option

    Hi all,
I am importing data from SQL server to oracle server, both of them are on different machines. I had suggested DTS to be most viable option to do so, the SQL server team needs to know why DTS, here are the other options that i am aware of
    1) Flat files ---delimited flat files data can be loaded into tables using external table since we have oracle 9i
    2) using generic connectivity, but it requires changes in configuration files which our dba doesnt apporve , since he says that wud be lot of monitoring and maintenance when there are database upgrades
    3) DBlink-- i dont know whether dblink works for oracle to sql server, i think it doesnt work?? correct me if am wrong
    and the last is DTS
it wud be of great help if i could know that in such a scenario how good is DTS compared to other options in terms of speed, maintenance and monitoring, also if there are any other options to import the data.
the volume of data is large abt 500000 one time load and then abt 8000 records on a daily basis
    thanks
    abhishek

2 & 3 are really the same thing. Generic Connectivity allows you to create a database link from Oracle to SQL Server.
SQL Server also has the concept of a linked server that is analgous to Generic Connectivity that would allow you to connect from SQL Server to Oracle and push the changes over.
There are a variety of other ETL tools out there that can handle this sort of thing (Oracle's is Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB)) in addition to DTS as well.
Personally, I would prefer Generic Connectivity, but that's just me. At one client site, we pull millions of records out of a DB2 database every night and haven't had any issues related to the stability of Generic Connectivity. Realistically, migrating 8000 rows a night is going to be pretty easy no matter what route you take, so it really comes down to what standards your organization has for data transfer and what sort of skillset the developers are going to have.

    Hi,
To connect to non-Oracle databases from SQL*Developer youneed to download the relevant JDBC driver.
This is detailed in the documentation in the User Guide -
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35137_01/appdev.32/e35117.pdf
    in the section -
    Database: Third Party JDBC Drivers
The Third Party JDBC Drivers pane specifies drivers to be used for connections to third-party (non-Oracle) databases, such as IBM DB2, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or Sybase Adaptive Server. (You do not need to add a driver for connections to Microsoft Access databases.) To add a driver, click Add Entry and select the path for the driver:
■For IBM DB2: the db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar files, which are available from IBM
■For MySQL: a file with a name similar to mysql-connector-java-5.0.4-bin.jar, in a directory under the one into which you unzipped the download for the MySQL driver
■For Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive Server: jtds-1.2.jar, which is included in the jtds-1.2-dist.zip download
■For Teradata: tdgssconfig.jar and terajdbc4.jar, which are included (along with a readme.txt file) in the TeraJDBC__indep_indep.12.00.00.110.zip or TeraJDBC__indep_indep.12.00.00.110.tar download
To find a specific third-party JDBC driver, see the appropriate website (for example, http://www.mysql.com for the MySQL Connector/J JDBC driver for MySQL, http://jtds.sourceforge.net/ for the jTDS driver for Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase Adaptive Server, or search at http://www.teradata.com/ for the JDBC driver for Teradata). For MySQL, use the MySQL 5.0 driver, not 5.1 or later, with SQL Developer release 1.5.
You must specify a third-party JDBC driver or install a driver using the Check for Updates feature before you can create a database connection to a third-party database of that associated type. (See the tabs for creating connections to third-party databases in the Create/Edit/Select Database Connection dialog box.)
    Regards,
    Mike
