Half Stars in iTunes 11.2

For years, I've been able to update iTunesPrefs.xml to allow half star ratings on my Windows machine. I just upgraded to iTunes 11.2 and it now appears that user preferences are gone in the xml file.
Is this no longer an option? I wish Apple would just let us choose it from within the application.

The option to enable half star ratings from within the application, like optional disc and track numbers in file paths, was removed many builds ago. I've tried the iTunesPref.xml hack that I think still worked on iTunes 11.1.5 but it seems that the option is no longer supported.

Half Star rating just in Library ?????????

I just downloaded the AppleScript for Half Star rating and it works,
BUT I can't make a smart playlist with half star ratings (for example as song with a 3 1/2* rating isn't shown in a smart playlist with 'greater than 3* and less than 4* rules).
Also in the 'Get info' box of a song, a song with a 2 1/2* rating is shown with a 2* rating.
So a half star rating is only shown and can be set up in the Library.
Maybe there is a script to change this ??? Otherwise in my opinion, half star rating is quite useless.

It's obviously an unactivated feature that Apple have yet to implement. I too have the script and was hoping that iTunes 6.04 would activate this but it hasn't. My guess is they need to get it working on the iPod firmware before they update it in iTunes. Here's hoping for an update soon...

Currently you can't and AFAIK nobody has found a way yet. So far it's only possible in iTunes as you have already done.

I have just restored data from an external hard drive, but half of my iTunes songs are getting the error "original file cannot be located." Where are these files?

My Windows 7 PC just had to be reformatted, and I have retrieved all of my files from an external hard drive. About half of my iTunes library is working fine, the other half pop up the error statement "original file cannot be located." If they haven't come off my external drive, where are they?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

Here on the screenshot, you could see grey and black rating stars in iTunes. If I click on the grey star rating to give it a new or the same rating the stars become black.
So my questions are:
1. What do they mean?
2. How are they different?
3. What could be causing it?
4. Anything else I need to know about this?

Half speed in iTunes

My wav-files plays only in half speed in iTunes. Plays ok in Windows Media player and other players. The wav-files originates from my LP's that I've sampled via my sound card. The same result on my other computer.

Unfortunately I don't, unless its ripped at a sample rate or quality setting iTunes can't understand, ie 48Khz instead of something like 44.1Khz that iTunes may be able to play properly.

Go to System Preferences > Universal Access and down in the Display: section make sure that the Enhance contrast: slider is all the way to left to Normal, or more to the right for less Contrast.

After clean install Mac,half of my iTunes library is misging from iTunes Match

I have iTunes Match in the cloud, where about 4000 songs are stored by Apple.
I did a clean install on my Mac ; wanted to download all my music from iCloud, but half of all the songs are missing.......
How is that possible ?

Half of my itunes on my macbook randomly got stored as "damaged"

i left my computer on (but charging) all day, & when I got back it seemed like my computer had had part of it's memory erased- when I went online, it didn't have any of my usual websites remembered (i.e. I typed in "f" & it didn't fill in the rest of the link for facebook, la-dee-dah). Anyway, that was fine, but when I tried opening up iTunes, it said "importing iTunes" but it was taking 5ever, so after a few minutes or whatever I just clicked "Stop". So then when iTunes opened, I had less than half of my music! My computer said that the rest of the files were "damaged". They're still here on my computer, but I can't access them & don't know what to do.

Boot your computer from your OSX installer disk and repair you hard drive with Disk Utility (not permissions, the First Aid thing). If it won't repair it you may need a stronger utility such as Diskwarrior ($100) and hope it works. Can't tell at this stage but maybe your drive is on its way out. Hopefully is is just directory corruption.
Hopefully you have a backup.

Half of my itunes library has disappeared

All of the songs appear to be there until I click on them, then an exclamation point appears and a window pops up saying "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" I cannot locate the file in finder anywhere. I tried several song titles and artist names in spotlight without any luck. Music and t.v. shows purchased from iTunes are the same as cd's burned myself. The only music left is about 18GB of stuff I just recently added. After I added this my memory was maxed out but everything has worked fine for almost a month. My ipod has most of the combined library and I have most of the missing songs backed up on an external harddrive. I searched the archive and found a couple others who have had this same problem, but no info on how to fix it.
Anybody know what may have happened?
Are there any tricks for recovering my library without having to re-import everything from external sources?
If not, how about getting the missing music off my ipod?

Uninstalling AVG won't repair the damage, though hopefully it should stop it happening again. See this post for repair steps.

Smart playlists and half-star ratings

Is it possible to make a smart playlist for songs less than 3-1/2 stars? I saw one post from 2008, but it's too complicated and beyond my computer skills. I am on a Macbook.

Yes, just put two rules: "Rating" "is" "3 stars" and "Rating" "is less than" "3 stars." Set the 2 rules to "Match Any."

Only half of some iTunes Matched songs on my iPhone will play, then audio skips to next song in playlist!

Several (maybe 5%) of iTunes Matched songs on my iPhone do this... at EXACTLY 1/2 way through the song.
EXAMPLE: At 2:25 of a 4:50 long song (Shania Twain - From This Moment) the next song in playlist (Taylor Swift - Tim McGraw) starts as the audio skips to beginning of next song in playlist. Oddly, Shania's attractive album artwork and title stays up while Taylor's tune plays (?)
When the timeline for the first Shania song hits the end, the artwork slides to Taylor Swift's CD Cover art and the timer slider adjusts to near the end of that song.
When I play same songs on the same playlist on iTunes (also downloaded from iTunes Match) this does not occur.
Does anyone else see this happen or are there any suggestions?

Hey Guys, from my late model iPhone 4, I am also seeing my iTunes Match songs terminate playing very abruptly ...some won't play at all ...others skip to the next track after 10 seconds.
I checked the source files on my iMAC, and they are 100 percent perfect.
Tried deleting them, recreating them, signing out and then back into iTunes with Match On & Off, etc ...still no resolution to these problems.
Maybe the MATCH product is crashing under it's own weight now? It used to be good, but now I am not so sure anymore.
Please post if you have any solution or suggestions.

One computer dead - no itunes. One computer half dead - some itunes

I have a new Dell with Windows Vista = #1. My itunes account works fine with find with this one except I have no tunes because of #3 crashed and all was lost and I didn't back anything up. Yeah, I already know that was a dumb thing NOT to do. On computer #2 it still works somewhat and there are quite a few of my itunes on that. I tried to play them and it said my account was not authorized. I authorized #2 and some songs would play and others would not - even when they were checked. I got the message again that #2 was not authorized. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

But each of them seems to be for people with 2 ipods that want to share music.
We don't have that problem.
We have 1 itunes, 1 ipod, it's just that we purchase music with our own accounts.
So our itunes (and thus ipod) contains music that I've purchased and music that she has purchased.
Only problem is, it seems to only want to let us authorize one account at a time.... so we can either play and sync the tunes I have bought... or the tunes she has bought... but not both.
I hope that makes it clear.
The problem really seems to be that Itunes is constantly asking us for authorization... I'll plug n my password and several minutes later have to plug it in again.
So a typical night of listening to music via itunes goes like this.
Playlist with 4 songs, 2 that I bought, 2 that she bought.
Play my song, enter my password, her song is next, promted to enter her password, my song is next, promted to enter my password
etc etc so on and so forth

Half of my itunes wishlist has disappeared....

I had over $1000 on my wishlist now it has gone down to $100...What happened?!? Please help.
