Handling service-callouts in bpm which doesnt use faults to signal errors

I need to call a bunch of services from my bpm process. Normally i have boundary events on my service call activities, but now i have a whole bunch of services that i need to call that doesnt doesnt respond with faults for error situations. Instead, i should expect to get a predefined element in the normal response.
I was hoping that it was possible to define this in the event boundary thing, but it looks like i am only able to trap faults.
I was thinking that i might encapsulate each service call with a mediator, but i havent been able to define a mediator to go through the normal response and throw a fault to initial caller.
I am not able to do this translation in the OSB since sending faults for minor errors is having an impact on infrastructure components in the overall architecture (non-200 responses are treated as severe errors).

Thanks - my scenario I guess is #2 of that blog. But is your take that even if I don't care what is in the fault message, i.e. I don't care about the contents of it but rather I just want to continue on from it, that I still need to perform this java coding?  It's not clear to me from what he says - it seems to me he does the java coding to actually capture the contents of the message.  I am in fact using the soap axis adapter too, as he is. The screen shot showing the exception branch is basically what I have.

  • OSB - Error handling, report via service callout?

    I'd like to use Report Action on any error happened in my services. I'd also like to keep only one Report Action to be able to change its configuration later easily if needed.
    As it seems currently, if I add the Report Action to the Error Handler of the service directly, it logs the error code/reason/etc correctly, but if I move the Report Action to a separate service and add a service callout to the Error Handler instead of calling the Report Action directly, I lose the error information (I get the report message but error code/reason/details will be all NULL in the database).
    Am I doing something wrong here? Is that a limitation of the product? Is there any solution to keep the report actions centralized in this case?
    Thanks..

    hi guys,
    thanks for all the suggestions though it's still not working here. Hopefully clarifying the situation:
    a) service -- error handler -- report error
    b) service -- error handler -- service callout -- report error
    a) works, b) does not.
    The syndromes for not working is that the reported message has error code, reason and detail all empty (NULL if I look directly in the database). I suspect the problem is with my service callout in scenario b).
    The service callout originally was made using the following parameters:
    Request document variable: body
    Response document variable: response
    SOAP request header: header
    SOAP response header: rheader
    Reading your suggestions I tried to set the request document variable from 'body' to 'fault', but it did not help either: I get the report message but still no error information in the message.
    How exactly should this service callout look like to properly transfer the error details to the called pipeline?

  • Using Fault handling framework for executing Database procedure

    We have a requirement wereby we have API to be executed on Oracle DB which would return a code saying 0 or 1.
    I meaning error.
    Now with regards to exception handling we require that we receive remote fault we retry for 3 times & if not successful have a email sent out & a human intervention.
    This can be easily taken care by having define this in Fault polciy.xml
    Another requirement is when the API fails for some reason & we get returncode as 1.Now we would like ot invoke the same policy for this type of error.Although BPEL instance is not failed.But we can throw custom fault.
    Now the APi's that we have can be called in 3 ways.
    1.In each instance we call API exactly once
    2.In each instance we call API in a loop for each record in message.Hence if 10 records are there in message & while executin 7th time it failed then how to handle reminaing records?
    3.In each instance we call API only once but submit all 10 reocrds at once.And at same time 7th record fails then whats best way to handle this?
    We realy want to use fault handling mechanism because it gives a lot of options of replay rethroew continue...but given the requirement can somebody point out a right way of using fault policy?
    Thanks

    U can archive the records in archive tables once the database adapter polls the data.

  • Is there a LabView example in the use of user defined error codes?

    Specifically, I have a VI that tests four arrays of data against various high/low limits. I have pass/fail outputs for 18 tests. I'd like to combine these into an 'error out' cluster with appropriate error codes and messages, for which I've created an x-errors.txt file.
    My first question must be trival - how do I just set the 'status' bit of the error stream to let the general error handler then look up the error desription from the file?
    Secondly - I can't find an example of this in the technical resourses, amI missing something?
    Thanks,

    There is no example program. There is extensive help on how to do this. Here's the basics.
    1) There are two ways to define user error codes in LV6.1. If you are using LV6.0 or earlier, only one method is possible.
    2) The 6.0 method involves wiring arrays of error codes and arrays of error code strings to the General Error Handler.vi. These codes will be used to explain any error code which is undefined in LV's internal error code database. Error codes reserved for users which are guaranteed not to be used by NI are from 5000 to 9999.
    3) The 6.1 method allows you to create a specially formatted error code file on disk that will be merged with the LV error code database each time LabVIEW launches. For help on this, go to LV's online help, and in t
    he Index tab, type
    "user-defined error codes, in text files"
    (without the quote marks)
    4) If you want to set an error into the error cluster, use the General Error Handler.vi again. Wire your error code value to the Error Code terminal (the leftmost-topmost corner terminal). Wire the name of your VI to the Error Source terminal, and wire "No Dialog" to the Type of Dialog terminal (left-side, near the bottom). The error code cluster that comes out of this VI will either be the error in (if one was set) or a new error code cluster with your error and the status bit set to TRUE.
    5) The attached demo is written in LV6.0.

  • OSB - Problem using the Service Callout control in a proxy service

    Greetings,
    Using a Service Callout control in a proxy service requires to check one of the following two options: Configure SOAP Body or Configure Payload Document. Both require to write SOAP code and to assign it to variables that will be used in the Service Callout control. I found quite inconsistent to have to write SOAP code in order to use a tool which is supoposed to avoid writing Java code. In this case I largely prefer to write Java code and doing things manually. Is there any other way to use this control ?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Nicolas

    I'll try to explain again, however it seems very clear. I'm using a Service Callout control in order to call a JAX-WS web service. This web service is using a "document" style, of course. Consequently, all its operations (messages) are document-centric and they have only one parameter: the document. In order to use tha Service Callout control, one has to construct the <siap:body> element, to assign it to a variable and to provide the name of this variable in the Request Body test field of the Service Callout Properties dialog. Accortdingly, one needs to assign something like:
    <soap:Body xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
    <osb:myOperation xmlns:osb="http://www.simplex_software/fr/">
    <osb: .../>
    <osb:myOperation>
    </soap>
    Now, for those who have understood what I'm talking about, here come the question ? Is that the only way to use the Service Callout control ? If yes, this control is useless. If no, what is the other way to use the control in the given context while avoiding providing a <sopa:body> written manually ?

    you are calling wrong  the Service.
    ¿what kind of service do you have? RPC? Document?
    ir your target service its document, I recommend this:
    1. Test target service with OSB
    2. copy XML request and XML response from the test.
    3. use XML request format that you got at Step 2 in your source service and using it at your "Service Callout".

    You have posted your query in the Project / Project Server forum, is this related to Microsoft's Project / Project Server? If not, you are better off posting this in one of the development forums. If you are unsure where to post, try here first:
