Handling the array

Hi All,
Im Intializing the an 2D array using IntializeArray.vi with col 16000 and row 4096.
What it mean? Whether it will allocate the memory of size 16000X4096?
If so then im filling data into the entire 2d array within a while loop using ReplaceArraySubSet.vi , It takes much time
One thing i verfied, For 16000X1 it takes 1sec 438 ms
and For 16000X525 it takes much time than 10Min .... Why this happening?
Then what i have to do to minimize the time to fill data..?
Thanks & Regards
Jagan

Is this the method that you are using?
My machine can do 16000x525 in < 1 minute.  I don't have enough memory for 16000x4096.

  • Event handler elements inside of the array

    I have an array of clusters, of which inside the cluster are buttons.   I want to be able to tie an event handler to these buttons ( they would all handle the event the same, the only difference would be the index they were handling)
    A while back a similiar problem was posted here:
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Array-of-Clusters-with-Graph-Y-Scale-Change-Event/td-p/1194181/page/...
    However, this solution did not appear to be able to deliver the index of which button in the array was pressed .. this is critical for my application.   The button is basically an "edit' buttonw which allows the user to edit the elements of the cluster through a popup.   Obviously I need to know which cluster the user intends to edit.

    nathand wrote:
    One option: when the code starts, build an array of references to the edit buttons inside each cluster. Then, in the event case, search that array for the reference that triggered the event. The index at which the reference is found tells you which cluster to edit.
    This might work, but it should be possible for the user to add/delete elements from the array so I would need to be able to do this even after program initialization.
    Currently, I have just made dozen buttons alongside the array of clusters.  But this workaround won't allow past a fixed number at program initialization.

  • Can I have an array of controls without having them in the array front panel holder?

    I would like to link a number of boolean control buttons in an array without grouping them on the front panel the way it does when you make an array and then put in a boolean control.
    Here's the background:
    I have 8 linear motors controlled by CANbus, and so each button type (Move, Stop, Home, etc) is duplicated 8 fold.  I have an event structure that is currently triggered with a separate case for EVERY button with only a very small difference in the code inside each case.  Ideally I could have the buttons in arrays and then check the new array value against the old value on a value change event.  The alternative for me is to have each case handle the 8 buttons (with a Mouse Down? filter event) and then use the Boolean.Text value from the CtlRef and search an array of all Boolean.Text Values for the 8 buttons to see which name matches and process accordingly.  I have something like 200 buttons, so making the arrays of Boolean.Text values from the reference nodes is WAY too time consuming as I have to go through like 5 levels of right click menus.  Any suggestions?

    Mark,
    You might consider using clusters on the front panel.  Create a type def'd cluster that has all the boolean controls for 1 channel.  You can drop 8 of these on the front panel and the event structure can detect a change in a cluster.  Easy to convert cluster to array behind the scenes.  Remember that order of cluster determines index of value in array.

  • Using the value "Image/*" for the accept attribute of the HTML input Element, how can I add .pdf to the array of preconfigured file types (.jpe, .jpg, .jpeg, .?

    On a form, using the value "image/*" for the accept attribute of the HTML input Element, how can I add .pdf to the array of pre-configured file types (.jpe, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .bmp, .ico, .svg, .svgz, .tif, .tiff, .ai, .drw, .pct, .psp, .xcf, .psd, .raw)?
    Say I wanted to add .gif, .jfif or .ico. I find this array limited, how can I add types to image?
    <input type="file" name="file" accept="image/*" id="file" />
    mimeTypes.rdf does not seem to allow this.

    ''mimeTypes.rdf'' has nothing to do with web development. It's a file that stores your file handling preferences (e.g. if you want ZIP files automatically saved or opened).
    You can't change the file types of the pre-defined content specifiers (audio/*, video/*, image/*), but you can specify additional MIME types. To add PDF to your above example,
    <pre><nowiki><input type="file" name="file" accept="image/*,application/pdf" id="file" /></nowiki></pre>

  • How to use the array elements

    Hi, i'm trying to automate a questionary using array.
    // In the compositionReady for the stage
    sym.actual = 0;
    sym.arr = [ "Hi","Love","You" ]              // This is my question array.
    sym.checkArr = function(){                  // this the function that i use to check whis question of the array i'm going to use.
              sym.Question = arr[actual];      // i want to use the value "Hi", and then increase my "actual" var and then use the value "Love"
    // In my symbol timeline i use a trigger, in that trigger i use
    sym.stop();
    sym.quest = sym.getComposition().getStage().Question;         // I'm getting the Question value;
    sym.$("Ask").html(quest );                                                         //"Ask" is an empty textfield;
    sym.getComposition().getStage().actual ++;                    // Increase "actual" for the nex time.
    But the code doesn't work, i think the problem is the way i use the array index.
    Please help!
    Thanks =)

    Hi there,
    chino_10 wrote:
    in te timeline trigger  why did you use a local variable?
    It's good practice to use local variables whenever possible. The quest variable will only apply to that trigger, and it won't carry over to another trigger in the same timeline. So when using a trigger to set the HTML of a text element in the same timeline, I find it cleaner to assign a new HTML value from a local variable.
    chino_10 wrote:
    and if you are calling the global variable "actual" from de compositionReady handler why didn'y you call it with all the path like "sym.getComposition().getStage().actual ++;"?
    I think maybe I didn't express it as clearly as I could have. When you declare sym.actual in compositionReady, you actually have declared a variable scoped to the main stage symbol - it's not a global variable. To declare a global variable (which is not always best practice), your code in compositionReady would be:
    actual = 0;
    This actual variable would now be accessible from any element/symbol in the composition simply by assigning a value to actual. You may see how this could quickly get messy.
    So getting back to variable scope: if you declare a symbol variable using sym.varName, then any element in the same scope can call it using sym.varName. So your main timeline triggers can call it without using the full addressing of sym.getComposition().getStage().actual++. Instead, you could just use sym.actual++. Less code, and easier to read. But if you wanted to call it from another symbol (outside of the scope of the main stage), then you'd have to use the full addressing to actually address the variable, i.e., sym.getComposition().getStage().actual ++.

  • Exception Handling for Array Binding

    Hi
    1)
    I am using a Stored Procedure.
    I am using array binding and if i am sending an array of count 10 to be inserted in a table and only 9 got inserted,i deliberatly inserted one errorneous record in array, the count returned by ExecuteNonQuery() is 10.Why ?
    How can i come to know exact number of rows inserted in table, how can i use Output variables, because the array bind count is 10 so if i add an output parameter it gives error ArrayBind count is wrong....
    2)
    Is it possible to roll back all the inserts if error occurs in any of the insert by Oracle engine.What it does is it inserts all correct records and leaves the errorneous record and doesn't even throw any exception or any message.
    Answer - This can be achieved by using OracleTransaction and don't use Exception handling in procedure otherwise there wont be any exception thrown by procedure which is necessary to detect if an error occured during insert.If you use exception handling OracleEngine will insert correct rows and leave errorneous record and return count of inserted + non inserted records which is wrong.
    Please help.

    You'll need to encapsulate your validation within it's own block as described below:
    -- this will die on the first exception
    declare
      TYPE T_BADDATA_TEST IS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(1000) INDEX BY binary_integer ;
      tbt T_BADDATA_TEST ;
      aBadTypeFound exception ;
    begin
       tbt(0) := 'a';
       tbt(1) := 'b';
       tbt(2) := 'c';
        for idx in tbt.first..tbt.last loop

    Thanks!
    Oops I forogt I could use the .contains, i also tried that but still no luck.
    There is no compiler error but here is an example of the output:

    Cory Merlin
    Brandon Gondorf
    Chris Houdini
    Lokie BLaine
    Now this function is called everytime the user choses a new item in a combo box.
    So if they go back to the previous selection, Holiday's, it shouldn't read add all the orginal things.

  • Dynamic Event to handle 12x12 Array or Cluster UI

    I'm looking to handle up to a 12x12 array/cluster to enable different LEDs. The enable method will be two numeric controls, MxN, which will light LEDs in a specific order based on the MxN control data entered. The specific order is right to left, bottom to top. Right now, I have only a few states functional, but I have to account for every state as shown in my block diagram. I'm looking for some feedback on how to handle this dynamically. I am aware of the Register For Events, but lack the experience to understand if this is the route I should take. Thanks in advance to all who respond!
    Examples
    2x2         3x3
    4|3          9|8|7
    2|1          6|5|4
                   3|2|1
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Why are you making the array a control?  Why not just make it an indicator so you don't have to use the local variable?
    Also, make sure your stop button is actually in a Stop Button:Value Change event case.  You will not be able to stop your VI as is written.

  • How to handle massive array operations

    Hi!,
    We are working with large arrays of the order of 5000 x 100000 (rows x col).
    We wish to perform typical array operations like replace subset, indexing, rotating and addition.
    Our questions:
    1) How do we work with this array within the same VI without creating indicators or controls. Wiring, we understand, is an option but then the wires will clutter our screen.
    2) How do we pass/retrieve this array data to/from sub-VIs without creating indicators or controls.
    3) What the fastest recommended methods of handling such large arrays.
    4) Our array will be either Boolean or U8. Will both data types give similar speed results?
    5) When using the replace subset function, can the subset be same dimension as original array?
    6) Can we rotate a particular row within a 2D array? As of now, we extract the row as 1D, rotate and then replace the original row with rotated row.
    Any ideas/suggestions (specific to array handling) to help speed our VI will be highly appreciated.
    We are using LV 7.1 on Win2000

    Saverio, Joe, Jason and Benoit - Thanks!
    Reply to Saverio's inputs:
    (1) Not sure what you mean by this. If you need to work with that data in the same VI you use wires - that's the most efficient way of doing it. Are you thinking about local variables or something?
    No, we avoid locals like birdflu! What I meant was how do I carry data from one part of my block diagram (BD) to another without using wires (because wires clutter the block diagram)? Is there no variable/container which will hold data without it being a control/indicator? Some of my front panels will be displayed. In such VIs, the moment I use a control/indicator in the BD to "hold" my data, my speeds drop.
    (2) OK
    (3) OK
    (4) LabVIEW stores Booleans as 8-bit data. You should choose the one that makes more sense for your application.
    U16 makes most sense.
    U8 also does the task, only catch is at the end I need to convert the array into U16 for the last operation to happen (all elements in a col are added; thus final array is 1D row array).
    I would use Boolean ONLY if it gives significant speed gains over U8 (I will need to convert Boolean to U16 at the end).
    Any inputs/ideas?
    (5) OK
    (6) You will need to be a little more specifc about this one, though I suspect the Transpose 2D Array function coupled with the Replace Array Subset is what you're looking for.
    Lets say the first row of my 2D array has 5 elements, which are 3 6 12 8 1. I want this to become 12 8 1 3 6. In effect I left rotated my first row my two positions.

  • Consumer loop very slow, queue size grows. How to speed up my consumer loop? As the array grows the slower it gets.

    LabView version: 2012
    OS: Windows XP SP3
    Hardware: USB NI cDAQ-9174 NI-9221
    Application: Oscilloscope
    I'm relatively new to LabView and I'm currently experiencing some performance issues with my project. I guess it has something to do with the way it's programmed. I'm hoping to get some tips from you guys.
    This is my producer loop. It should be capable of acquiring 100 000 Samples/s. I guess I've done this the right way and can't really be improved. Or am I mistaking?
    This is (part of) my consumer loop. It's too slow, the number of elements in the queue keeps getting bigger. I'm doing two types of calculations on the queue data. One for changing the scalling (a multiplication), one for changing the y-position (a summation). Because each time there are 10 000 samples acquired I have added an extra loop (inner loop). This loop splits the array into x samples when the requested samples are smaller than 10 000 or adds them when the requested samples are bigger than 10 000. This depends on the user input (time/dev).
    For example: when the user request 100 seconds of data to be plotted on a graph we get an array of 10 000 000 x 8. Is this considered big? Enlarging the array to that size is very very slow, the queue builds up rapidly.
    I don't know what really slows it down or how to 'debug' this properly. Transposing the array twice seems avoidable?
    Maybe I'm doing this in an inefficient way? Any thoughts that might help me?
    The VI's are attached.
    Thanks for your input.

    Thank you for your replies so far!
    LV_Pro,
    I agree it is a bit silly to plot more than 2000 points. I will change this. But even without a graph, the consumer loop seems to be unable to handle the speed.
    tst,
    1. Ok, I will change this
    2. Thank you for pointing this out. I implemented your technique and have some increased performance.
    Still not the speed I would expect from LabView. The system is 'stable' with a sample rate up to 100 Hz, increasing this makes my queue overflow.
    I must be doing something else wrong... Anymore ideas?

  • Passing the array into actionPerformed method

    Hi friends! I am new at java. I made a tictactoe game board with GUI and it is designed according to nxn (desired any n value). When I pressed to any button, it should write an X to my board but I could not passed the button's action. My problem is that my actionPerformed method does not accept array button[j]. In the below there is a part of my code :
    for(int j=0;j<button.length;j++)     // adding the buttons
    button[j].addActionListener(this);
    public void actionPerformed(ActonEvent evt)
    // what can I read here for detecting the right button? button length is changable, it is depent on what we desire at first.
    // I tried this code in this area but it does not work:
    // if (evt.getSource()==button[j])
    // button[j].setText("X");
    // normally, it works if I write every button individually like that:
    // button1.addActionListener(this); (same for other buttons)
    // public void actionPerformed (ActionPerformed evt)
    // if (evt.getSource()==button1)
    // button1.setText("X"); (same code for other buttons)
    // but I want to make a generalized board action
    }I will be appreciated with your helps...
    Musty

    Hi musty4284,
    The getSource method of ActionEvent(not ActonEvent) returns an object and the way you're comparing objects is wrong.
    Theorically, you should do something like this :
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent evt) {
        JButton b = (JButton) evt.getSource();
        if ( button[j].equals(b) ) {
    }Edit :
    When using a listener for an array of JButton, it is a good idea to give a unique identifier to each button (for example, their index in the array). The JButton class has a setName method not to confuse with the setText method.
    While building your array of JButton, you can do :
    JButton[] button = new JButton[9];
    for (int i = 0; i < 9; i++) {
        button[i] = new JButton();
        button.setName(i);
    While handling the event :public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent evt) {
    JButton b = (JButton) evt.getSource();

  • Change upload file name with com.oreilly.servlet.MultipartRequest to handle the file upload

    1. when use com.oreilly.servlet.MultipartRequest to handle the file upload, can I change the upload file name .
    2. how com.oreilly.servlet.MultipartReques handle file upload? do it change to byte ?
    what  different?  if I use the following method?
       File uploadedFile = (File) mp.getFile("filename");
                   FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(filename);
                    byte[] uploadedFileBuf = new byte[(int) uploadedFile.length()];
                   fos.write(data);
                 fos.close();

    My questions are
    1) when use oreilly package to do file upload , it looks like i line of code is enough to store the upload file in the
    file direction.
    MultipartRequest multi =
            new MultipartRequest(request, dirName, 10*1024*1024); // 10MB
    why some example still use FileOutputStream?
    outs = new FileOutputStream(UPLOADDIR+fileName);
        filePart.writeTo(outs);
       outs.flush();
      outs.close();
    2) can I rename the file name when I use oreilly package?

  • Main.vi creates 2D Arrays and I want to save the arrays in an microsoft Excel file(e.g engine_1)and in differnt worksheets(e.g. measure_1;measure_2;...)

    main.vi creates 2D Arrays and I want to save the arrays in an microsoft Excel file(e.g engine_1)and in differnt worksheets(e.g. measure_1;measure_2;...)
    The path(Grundpfad)for the excel file should be inserted in the main.vi.

    1. There's a shipping example called Write Table To XL.vi (Help>Find Examples>Communicating with External Applications>ActiveX>Excel) that you can use as a starting point.
    2. Buy the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit. Info can be found here.
    3. Search this forum for other examples of writing to Excel.

  • What happens to the array built inside a subvi

    Hi
    My operation inside a subvi goes like this, i acquire data from a source continuously in a loop, build it in the loop and pass it out of the loop. I complete the processing of the built array in the same subvi and come out of it.
    I have the following doubts ;
    1. Does the memory allocated for building the array gets cleared when i come out of the sub vi.

    The answer is no, the memory allocated by the sub-VI will not be released, it will remain in use until the next time the sub-VI is called...then it might reduce or increase it's size depending on how it works. You can improve the performance by ensuring that the VI always works on the same memory (do not build arrays but initialize a shift register only at the first run and then use the replace array elements function instead e.g.). Building arrays in a loop is a no no.
    If the VI is only to run now and then you can force the memory to be released either by loading the VI dynamically and then closing all references to it when you are finished with it for that run...or you can use the Request Deallocation function that you can find on the advanced -> data manipulati
    on menu in LV7. If the VI runs all the time your better off leaving it in memory.
