Hardware acceleration in Firefox 4 fluctuates my gpu clock speed and for some period of browsing will hang the gpu at the highest clock speed available even after closing Firefox 4.

After browsing heavily in Firefox 4 for some time, my gpu (ATI 5870 with the latest drivers) will stay clocked at the highest clock speed of 850Mhz and memory clock speed of 1200Mhz. Even after closing Firefox 4, the gpu will not down-clock and stay at those highest speed. I've tested the same browsing pattern on IE9 and in which this problem didn't exist so I don't think it's a driver issue. I now have to browse with hardware acceleration turned off to ensure I don't get this problem.

Ive downgraded from FF4 to 3.6 at this point. The CPU usage is out of control on OS X.

  • FIrefox 4 beta does not work anymore. Directly after start-up (my homepage is showing) is firefox hanging, showing an hour glass. No button, URL or whatever can be used, except for the close button. But even after closing firefox, it keeps on running.

Even after closing down the application, the firefox task remains running in the background and must be killed with Windows Task Control.
Even deinstalling and installing the latest beta version does not solve it. Unfortunately I have to use Google Chrome Now.

Ok. I disabled hardware acceleration. The only extension is the McAfee Scriptscan for Firefox 15.1.0, which was already disabled. I then disabled all plugins (Acrobat, Google Update, Intel Identity Protection (2x), Java Deployment Toolkit, Java Platform, MS Office 2013, Quicktime, Shockwave, Silverlight), which were all up to date.
Normal or safe mode still has same result. No startup, no option button and no customize.
Thanks for your help. Got any other suggestions?

  • Cannot disable hardware acceleration in firefox.

    Hi.
I am unable to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox using Windows 8. I can open the settings, uncheck the box, but this does not change anything. If I open the settings again the box is still checked. This problem does not exist in Chrome. Anything I can do to fix it?
    Thanks for any help

There are two places to disable it:
Firefox (This is on my Mac, but it's the same for Windows. Tools>Options>Advanced>General)
    and Flash

  • How to Enable Hardware Acceleration in FireFox 31

Please advise how to enable hardware acceleration in FireFox 31. All my graphics and other hardware/software is current and updated. I've also paired my Bookmark Toolbar down to under 20 entries.
FireFox is so sluggish that just a few open tabs cause the pausing "wheel of doom" every time I try to enter information or go to another part of the website. Sometimes the pauses are 5-10 seconds, sometimes a minute or more.
I do not have this issue on the other browsers that I use.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
You can also check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • Firefox apears in firewall even after closing all processes and continues to download file

firefox continues to download files even after closing all the processes, this behavior was noticed by looking at the my firewall activity log. I am using get them all download manger (firefox extension) to download files in firefox. When first time firefox is started after starting computer it doesnt have any problem, but once I open the download manager and start downloading files it never stops.
I am using : down them all version 2.05 beta on FF 3.6.12
    1. start computer
    2. open firefox
    3. check firewall status (bitdefender firewall running at report level) - no activity noticed
    3. add url to download file in download them all manager
    4. start download - bitdefinder shows firefox accessing internet
    5. pause download
    6. check firewall status - bitdefinder doesn't show firefox accessing internet in process listing but it does show network activity is going on at its peak.
    7. close all firefox windows and remove firefox.exe from task manager
    8. check bit defiender firewall status it continues to run at peak eating up all the network bandwidth
    9. remove rule of firefox from firewall so as it may prompt when firefox try to connect to internet (bit definder firewall is running in report mode for approval for each connection)
    10. as soon as rule removed, bit definder pops up window sayaing firefox is trying to access remote server (same from where the download was earlier started)
    11. Allow the firefox to access it and again it will start downloading in background and bitdefinder shows up internet activity at its peak.

naah, looks like its problem of firefox, i removed the plugin and tried downloading using the normal download winodw of firefox but same problem, this time it starts picking up item from the download window and continues to download

  • Started firefox today and for some reason all the bars are missing which includes the bookmark button, back button, really everything...I have tried for hours to get them back and even did a restore to my system, no help...how do I get them back

all the bars at the top of the page have gone missing including the back button, everything...how can I restore them?

'''Menu Bar''' (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help)
Press ALT V T M (CTRL V T M on Macs) on your keyboard. This should restore the menu bar (Firefox 3.6) You can also restore the menu bar by pressing Alt and going to View | Toolbars | Menu bar
    '''Navigation Toolbar'''
    Press Alt V T N (CTRL V T N on Macs) on your keyboard.
    '''Other toolbars'''
View | Toolbars | Select the desired Toolbar
    '''Other steps to try'''
Try restoring the default set by going to View | Toolbars | Customize | Restore Default Set. This will put the toolbars back in the default place. This would be a good idea if you are missing specific icons on the Navigation Toolbar
    '''Safe Mode'''
You May need to reset toolbars and controls via [[Safe Mode]]
Make sure you completely close Firefox first. When you get to the Safe Mode window, select Reset toolbars and controls and then Make Changes and Restart.

  • Is there an add-on to close firefox when it has been idle for some period of time? (under Ubuntu Linux 10.10)

I have a PC set up as a kiosk for the public to use our online catalog in our library. The user clicks one of four launchers (shortcuts) on the desktop which open a firefox browser pointed to the chosen variation of our catalog.
What I need is some app or option that will close the browser yielding back to the desktop after 5-minutes of inactivity because the patron has walked away without closing the browser.
We have this ability in something called Public Web Browser for Windows which uses IE underneath it. Since we want to use Linux for kiosks instead of Windows, we need to find another way.

  • Neither Firefox or other web browser will access the net UNLESS I use the restore feature. The next day the problem occurs again and again I have to use the restore feature? It works on my laptop so not ISP problem do I have a trojan or something?

It seems that no browser will work. Firefox is my preferred browser but IE wont work either unless I use the restore function and then they work fine. However if I close my computer down for any reason they wont work and again I have to use the restore function. My email program works just fine (I use Agent) my ISP says there is no problem with my connection. My Firefox on my laptop works just fine and it uses the same connection as my desktop where the problem is.

This can be a problem with the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

  • Disabling Hardware Acceleration in Firefox

This seems to have stopped the problem of my Windows XP crashing while viewing youtube video, etc.  My question is why I have to do this after not having to for a couple of years.  Could it be an indication that my ATI 4670 graphics card is defective or underperforming in other ways?  I am hoping an Adobe professional may join the discussion.

I'll second Chris' recommendation of updating the drivers. Usuallly when the hardware fails, it fails completely, or intermittently. Drivers can become corrupted and still mostly work.

  • Videos keep downloading even after closing Firefox.

Hello, I just signed in because I have a weird issue, so this is my first post here:
Recently I noticed my internet connection suddenly was getting very slow, I thought it was some problem with my internet provider but the problem was getting very frequent. I use a program (Win7 gadget) that helps me monitor my internet traffic, access and usage, and I noticed all my bandwidth was being used even if I had all programs closed. A couple of days later I discovered that each time I opened a streaming video from any site (not just YouTube), the problem was there, so everytime I watch a video I have to wait for it to load completely, even if I close the tab or the browser.
I don't have the slightest idea how this problem started, I'm very careful about the software I install in my PC. I've searched all over the web trying to find a solution but to no avail, it seems a lot of other users have the same issue but with some variants: some people blame it on BitDefender, other people blame it to using other browsers, etc. but I haven't found a solution yet.
Now, watching videos is a big part of my internet experience, even YouTube is my homepage, and I sometimes like to watch very long videos (20+ min.), so you can tell this problem ruins a big part of my web usage. Let's say I open a video with a 3:00 minutes length, I watch like 20 seconds of it and then I decideo to close it, now I must wait the whole three minutes for the video to stop buffering to be able to watch another one (or to do anything web related for that matter) or surf the web at the pace of a snail until the video stops loading.
The solutions I've tried so far are:
Disabling all antivirus options in BitDefender 2012.
Disabling and enabling again the network adapter.
Uninstalling my monitoring programs (Windows 7 gadgets).
Updating Flash Player to the latest version.
Trying to tweak the various Flash Player options found in Control Panel (a.k.a. Global Settings).
Trying to tweak the Flash Player Settings found by right clicking on a video.
Another thing I noted is that if I try to find which program is accessing the internet with the Resource Monitor that comes with Windows 7, there's none. Let's say that I open a video, I check the Resource Monitor and there I can find Firefox is accessing internet as expected, then I close Firefox, the program dissappears from the Resource Monitor (again, as expected) but the bandwidth is still being accessed at full. I have a very slow connection (2 Mb), so you can tell how this becomes a problem for me.
I'm not sure how or when the problem started, and I'm reluctant to do a System Resore because there seems none of the programs affected have nothing to do with my issue, and I'd lose some other stuff I've configured on my PC and want to keep.
Well, that's all I have to say, thank you for reading and I really hope you can come with a solution, cya!
    Here are my specs:
    Windows 7, 64-bit
    Firefox, ver. 17.0.1
    Adobe Flash Player, ver. 11.5.502.135
(PS: While writing my specs, I was just wondering if it was a problem with Firefox, which updates quite frequently... go figure.)

    What? No replies? Anyone?
Well, I just wanted to add that the problem seems to be with Firefox. I tried opening videos with Internet Explorer 9 and they stopped buffering the moment I closed their tabs or closed the browser, so I downgraded Firefox from ver. 17.0.1 to ver. 16.0.2 and I thought the problem was solved, the videos stopped downloading as soon as I closed them, but the next time I opened Firefox the problem was there again...
BTW, I've already ran a full system antivirus scan, but my PC is clean. I've also tried disabling Greasemonkey and all its scripts.
Please, help me if you can!

  • Firefox 4.0 will not open at all. It shows that the process is running in the task manager but will not open the window even after closing the prcess and restarting.

I have had firefox since an earlier 2. version and have been able to upgrade as normal. After the installation is done it will not open at all. I have restarted and even uninstalled all previous version .exe and still nothing. I am using windows 7 OS. I am still running 3.6.8 and would love to see the new one running on my laptop.

  • Firefox keeps upgrading me to 3.6 when I open it and for some reason then reverts to 3.5. This happens frequently, on both my home and work computer. What's up?

Firefox automatically upgrades me to 3.6 but form some reason the next time I start up it reverts to 3.5. Consequently, it takes forever to load each time and it is getting very irritating. Don't make me go back to IE!
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Since the upgrade began being pushed out.

    Hello Sandi.
Just to be clear, the browser you were using when you posted that was 3.6.6.
This "automatic downgrade" may happen if your computer is set to restore your Program Files folders to their previous stat when you reboot your computer. Please contact your system administrator and ask him about that, or see if you don't have any software of this sort, if you don't have a sys admin.

  • My pc says Firefox is running after I close the browser, and will not let me access the internet. This continues even after I shut down and restart my pc. It even continues to do it after I uninstal, then reinstal Firefox. What can I do?

We tried uninstalling , tyen reinstalling Firefox, but we still get the error message that Firefox is running, and the PC won't open the browser.
We went to the Task Manager on our PC, which said Firefox was running, and told TM to close it. But, when we try to then open Firefox, we get the same error message.
