HarnessPortletProvider: Errors generated by provider instance

Hi there,
I have created a Portal Application for portlet development in Sun ONE Studio 5. I am working for Sun Portal Server 6.0.
The problem starts when I access my portal application in browser. It throws me following errors.
=============================================
HarnessPortletProvider
User Name: default (en_US)
Class: com.sun.portal.harness.HarnessPortletProvider
Description: HarnessPortletProvider
Details: WIDTH_THICK
Errors generated by provider instance - see log output
Error in provider method getContent(): com.sun.portal.providers.ProviderException:
HarnessPortletProvider.doGetContent(): container exceptioncom.sun.portal.container.ContainerException:
PortletContainer.getMarkup():getting content java.lang.NullPointerException
=============================================
Anyone plz guide me for reason and/or solution for above problem? Why it cant get contents of a portlet while the
same code is working for JSP Providers?
Regards,
asif

I've been getting Harness errors for months and have been working directly with Sun Support and they keep telling me "we have it working, it must be something with your system config."
I've uninstalled, scrubbed, and and still get the same damn error. We just completed our portal and app. server deployment and I cannot get a simple HelloWorld portlet working within the Sun environment.
Very frustrating.
Everyone here just seems to say RTFM, which tells me nothing about how to build and deploy a portlet, tested locally, with or without Sun One Dev Studio.
I'm a fairly knowledgable Java developer and all I would need is:
* A skeleton of a simple portlet
* Skeleton of portlet.xml file
* Deploy instructions for Portal v6.x
And I'd at least be able to get started with something basic.

  • Error generating data provider-Query cant be released

    Hello Experts,
I am working on web template (WAD 3.5) where i have 6 graphs each having independadnt data provider (Bex query).
I also have drop boxes which represents the selection screen of queries attached to graphs.
'Affected data providers list' of dropboxes consist of all data providers that are attached to graphs in template, as each graph is supposed to get refreshed if user changes drop box selection.
Template was working fine until i made the change to query 2 which is dataprovider 2 for graph 2.
Since then i am not able to run template it gives me error -
-The query cant be release for OLE DB for OLAP
    -Query couldnt be open
    -Error generating data provider.
As i checkd that qury independantly in query analyzer, its working perfect without any error.
What could be the possible reason for this error then??
    regards,
    Pritesh.

    Hi Manpreet,
Use the 'verify' icon in the query designer to check whether your query definition is correct. Also u  you
can check if you can execute the query in the backend with transaction RSRT2. In  RSRT2 try re-generating
    the query before running it.
    Hope it helps.

  • Error generating new OC4J instance?

    using 9iAS J2EE Container Version 9.0.2.0.0
    on Win 2000 Server
when trying to generate a new OC4J instance from EM GUI I get an error message
The operation failed.. Instance: RAB9iAS.rabdev001.p01.xy.loc Message: Keine Meldung für diese Exception definiert. Base Exception: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:nullKeine Meldung für diese Exception definiert.
German text roughly translates to: "no message defined for this exception"
(The traffic light shows an exclamation mark and the checkbox next to "JServ" is disabled, JServ is not running. Is this normal?)
    Any ideas?
Which log files might provide more info?
I'm new to 9iAS, so please keep it simple ...

    Hi Jason,
    Thanks for your help.
I tried DCM tool but it is giving the same error. Is there any other tool to resolve this problem?
Have you worked on Oracle Content Management SDK (Oracle CM SDK)?
Actually, I am currently working on Oracle CM SDK. I have to dvelope an Content Management application (like WebstarterApplication which is provided)from scratch which can enable end user
    1. To browse through the documents in the repository.
    2. To open the documents form the repository itself.
    3. To edit and save the document in the place in the repository.
I found that in WebstarterApplication (an CM SDK Application which is provided as demo), 1st and 2nd features are there but 3rd one is not.
So, I am going to develope an application from scratch.
Then is it necessary to create an OC4J Instance?
Please suggest me what should be the steps to be followed to develope such an application from scratch.
    Thanks.

  • Error while generating Data provider

We are facing a weird issue while using Design Studio 1.2. Locally the tool works fine but when we use it from BI-Launchpad or through BI Enterprise it gives intermittent error "Error while generating Data Provider"
Same setup works fine in our Validation Environment.
We have tried running repair for Design Studio, redeploy the war files, creating new view but issue still exist.
We have BI 4.0 SP7 installed on Windows 2008 R2 system.
4 CMS running in cluster, Design Studio 1.2 is installed on 3 Nodes out of 4.
For now we are using 1 tomcat to access the system to narrow down the issue.
Experts please help us to resolve this issue.
Attach is the error message we are receiving

I am not clear what your data source is, but I recommend checking the PAM https://websmp102.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001013822013E because there are some limitations with Design Studio and BI4.0

    Hi,
From the error message, it failed because of "invalid argument: storagetype = '101' ".
101 means the storage type is "system" + "cache". Is there any change on your storage before the issue occurs? For example whether the source storage is changed?

    Hi
Web AS 6.40 you can create a Web Service Proxy directly in Transaction SE80. Create a new package and right click on it. Choose Create -> Enterprise service / Web service -> Proxy object. Now you can choose how you want to provide the WSDL Source.

    hi,
Check with the Basis consultant....actually Data provider deals with the database..Also sometimes when the data provider doesnot provides the data...the error doesn't reach....
Pls check with the BASIS consultant....the netweaver part could be checked by ABAP consultant...

    Hi
Please check if you are missing '\' character after directory name and before file name in file path. I resolved this issue keeping '\' character after directory name in path.

  • JPDK:Unable to initialize new provider instance

has anyone seen this error before when trying to register the JPDK portlets?

    Gareth,
We are using Oracle Portal production version 3.0.7, NT 4.0 and Oracle 817 Enterprise version. The JPDK is in March version. I do not know the error stack. I checked the html source and found the following information:

  • Unable to initialize new provider instance

    Hi all,
This problem has now been posted a few times since May 27 but remains unresolved. It presents itself after the final step while following the procedure for "registering the provider" as described in "installing.jpdk.html".
The error message reported to the browser is as follows:
Error: An error occurred when attempting to call the providers register function. (WWC-43134)
The following error occurred during the call to Web provider: Unable to initialize new provider instance: java.lang.NumberFormatException: (WWC-43147)
There are log files excerpts pertaining to this event in the Cheung thread.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Regards,
    Jim

    Hi Sue,
    Thank you for your help!
What PDK release are you using PDK-May or PDK-June?Ahah! I think you may have hit the nail on the head straight away.. While checking my reply I found that I used a file called "pdk.zip" which was downloaded from http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/products/iportal/sample_code_index.htm. This archive contains the file that I installed, which is called jpdk14.zip and is dated 4/23/2001 (this itself contains files with latest last modified date of 3/26/2001).
    Presumably this file is obsolete?
Can you get the test page to display? Yes.
You used the exact same URL from the test page for registration?Yes - cut, pasted and verified!
Did you make any other changes in the provider.xml other than what appears at the top?No.
I guess these answers are largely academic, how about if I try again using the latest file from http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/PDK/INDEX.HTML and let you know the result?
    Best Regards,
    Jim

  • Troubleshooting "error generating preview" in Installer

From time to time, I have run into this maddening condition where I build an installer and it will not run because it reports “error generating preview” errors on the EXE for which I am trying to build the installer.  Most often, I can build the EXE just fine, without errors.  The run button does not show any problems, and the application EXE runs without issue.  When I try to build the installer, I get the error.  I have scoured NI’s web site and find many people with this problem, loads of “try this” type advice, and reports of “I fixed it” that often don’t make any sense.  It is nearly impossible to troubleshoot this problem in an orderly, sensible way.  Sure there are some build log files that can be activated, and you can look through them, but rarely is there anything “telling” in these rather verbose dumps (if they are created at all).  How is it that the Installer builder can notify me that there is an “error generating preview”, but cannot point me at the source of the error?!  How insane is that?
I would like to put out a passion plea to National Instruments Engineering, or to one of you many LabVIEW community gurus’s to provide some detailed instructions for diagnosing, finding, and fixing these vexing errors.  Can someone please write up some sort of step by step for this diagnosis?
The second thing I would love is for NI to report more detail in the Installer builder as to what is causing the error.  Telling me there is an error (that you just found) but keeping the issue a secret does not help me get my job done.
If there is already a detailed step-by-step guide for diagnosing and fixing these issues, I apologize for this post and would be very grateful if someone would kindly point me to this oracle of wisdom.
    Thanks,
    -cb

    Greetings Community,
Just circling back to report out on what I did to get my install build to work again.  This list contains things that *probably* fixed this issue on my system, although it is a bit of a mysterious issue so somewhat hard to nail down.  Anyway, these comments may help someone some day.
What might prevent the build of an installer
You have a VI in a Dialog Disable Structure that has a problem.  It could be a broken VI or a left-over VI that points to a VI that no longer exists.  Whatever the problem, just because it is "commented out" does not mean that the compiler will ignore it.  By the way National Instruments, I think this is a bug.  Why does the compiler try to process things that are commented out?
You have a String that is wired to the selector of a Case Structure.  I ran into this once.  I could not build the installer.  Somehow I found a reference online where someone commented on this being an issue.  I found my problem VI, replaced the string with a typedef into the selecter and poof, it worked again.
You have a hard-coded path reference in your VI that points to a directory that does not exist (invalid path).  In my case recently, I had a string with a path wired into a build path reference.  The directory was used elsewhere to open VI's on the fly.  For some reason this was OK with the EXE builder, but not OK with the installer builder.
Here is a "gotcha" - if you move a LabVIEW project to another directory, the installer forgets all of the file dependencies you have created in the installer setup.  When I get a new version of LV, I create a LV project directory called "LabVIEW 2013" and move my previous (and still active) projects into that directory.  I know this seems kind of dorky, but it helps me keep things straight.  When I move my projects, the installer break.  Trying to re-construct the build settings has been troublesome and can lead to odd "error generating preview" messages because something wasn't re-built correctly.
Well, that's what I know.  The F2 patch for 2013 did not fix my most recent problem, #3 above did.  If anyone finds other build issues to look for while troubleshooting, can you please post to this thread?
    Thanks,
    -cb

  • Error while registering Provider Urgent..

The following error occurred during the call to Web provider: Unable to initialize new provider instance: oracle.portal.provider.v1.ProviderException: Unable to acces method setDataClass (WWC-43147)
    null

This message indicates that the method setDataClass(String class) cannot be found while processing your provider.xml.
verify that the containing element (a personalization manager?) does in fact contain the method.
Have you tried running the provider in test mode (just enter the URL of the provider in your browser. If you are using JPDK 1.4 or later, it will help you debug your provider.xml).

  • "No sensor values have been generated for this instance." BPELConsole msg.

I've reworked the GoogleFlowWithSensors demo to use BAM sensors as a prelude to incorporating BAM into a a real BPEL process we have that's much more complicated. I've moved the schema in the GoogleFlowWithSensors.wsdl file to an imported XSD file as directed in literature. I created in BAM Architect a DataObject called ProcessExecutionTimestamp with 5 columns instanceId, receiveInput_TS, invokePartnerLink_TS, receivePartnerLink_TS, and callbackClient_TS. I was able to successfully tie the BAM sensors to this dataobject.
Everytime I test the BPEL process in BPELConsole, I get the results back but I get nothing but a "No sensor values have been generated for this instance." message in the BPELConsole "sensors" pane. I have found nothing in any BAM or BPEL log that indicates what could be going on.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
BPEL Console does not show data published on BAM Sensors, to see on BPEL console you have use database sensor type.
Bpel log (default.log) shows any errors encountered on sending data to BAM.
    Thanks
