Has anyone ever experienced the situation where plugging in the USB connector to the charging source (high-power USB port or Apple charger) halfway, then pressing it in firmly, results in the iPad not charging?

It's highly likely that there is a poor connection in the phone - either a pin in the dock connector or internal wiring harness. No software fixes or "tricks" would work, but I would recommend restoring in iTunes, first using a backup and if needed restore as a new phone.
Otherwise, opening and repairing the phone takes some tech knowledge that can't be relayed here. Apple doesn't repair phones other than replacing batteries (not inconceivable that you have a bad battery), but offers "out-of-warranty" replacement (refurb) phones for $149 (US). 3rd party iPhone repair centers may be able to fix it for less. FYI, there's no such thing as "soft" or "hard" resets in iPhone terminology. There is only one phone reset. You'll see those terms thrown around by technically ignorant posters, but they mean different things to different people and are actually archaic, 1980s PC terms that have nothing to do with iPhones.

Double-tap the screen with three fingers, then go to Settings and disable the Zoom function so you don't accidentally trigger it again.

3 GS freezes to white screen occasionally after hitting home button. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Has anyone ever experienced a white screen that freezes then turns black after hitting the home button?

I have had intermittent white screens for some time (as in three years). It happens when the phone "wakes up". I hae lost calls that I could not answer because the screen was white. It has come up white when I hit the home screen. Not always, but with random frequency. All I have to do it hit the power button (I do not have to power off, just hit the button) and reopen the phone and it is gone. I know the phone is functioning under this screen, I just cannot do anything.
My first 3GS had the problem so severly I called Apple. After two and a half hours of resets of various kinds, they decided the phone was bad and sent my a replacement. It was better, but it still has the issue. I have gotteb used to it and am waiting until I can get an upgrade to the phone in the hopes it takes care of it. In the meantime, I occasionally doa search here and un the intertubes to see if someone else has the issue and a solution.
My suspicion has been that some app I downloaded causes it, but I have deleted apps and cannot get rid of the issue.

Has anyone ever experienced there 3g icon dissapears?

Occassionally I notice my 3g "data" connection dissapears in the upper left corner of my AT&T iphone 4 where my reception bars are located. The bars remain but I lose my data connection that enables me to surf the web and send text messages. It happend today when I was driving in an area (San Jose, CA) that I tend to have low bars except this time I had full bars and my 3g icon dissapeared. I left it to see if it would restore and it took almost 3 minutes before the Edge icon appeared. About 10 seconds after that, it turned back to 3g. I know by turning the airplane mode or turning the 3g enabled feature on and off too in settings sometimes will fix the issue. Does anyone else experience this? I've also experienced this on my past 2 android phones that I had on T-Mobile as well so it's not new to me. Just want to make sure I'm not the only one. My friends claim they never have this issue.

This will happen when there is bad coverage. I get this every time I pass through one location.
You are driving and checking your phone's coverage? I am on a train when I notice this happen.

Has anyone else encountered a situation where images suddenly gone missing?

i've had files suddenly gone missing on me several times. i was so sure that this might be a bug but now i think it's user error. at least my error.
a few times i wanted to delete one image and then found that several other images disappeared on me. here i realize that i forgot to deselect all of the other images before deleting the one image i intend to delete.
another time for some unexplained reason, so it seemed, several images disappeared on me. poof! i couldn't find them anywhere, but i didn't think to look in the Rejected library. later on i realize that i've pressed the zero key by mistake while the images were selected. the zero key rejects the images and placed them in the Rejected library. i've found some of my missing images in this library. phew!
for those of you who have some missing images, and haven't taken a look inside your Rejected library, take a look and maybe you'll find some of your missing images in there.

You might just need to clear your search by selecting
the "x" in the search field.
Not quite the same as going into the search field and changing the rating slider and selection to show only deleted as by just clearing the search field does not change the slider rating and you'll still not see the rejected files.

Batteries do have a finite life span.
That said there have been some users reporting battery issues but but there's no way to know what or why or how it happens.
You can try a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. Let it reboot and see if that helps.
If you have spares, you can try to swap out your charger and cable, just to see if there's any difference with them changed.
Another thing you can try is a restore. That's basically where you back it up and then restore it from a backup. (something to do a bit more research into if you plan to do it).
if you don't want to do that then you can make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out.

Has anyone else experienced the iOS going into recovery mode after the latest update?

I had a notification stating a update of iOS 6.1.1 was available. I started to install the software OTA. after about 10mins, my phone turned off, and when turned back on, showed a picture of a cable and the word iTunes.
I plugged it up to my computer which told me it was in recovery mode. its reinstalled the new software but I've lost everything. Photos, Videos, Apps, notes, Music, Messages.
I back it up regularly, but when i tried to restore the backed up file, Ive still lost a 80% of my photos, no videos have been readded, and all my Apps I have had to redownload from the App Store.
Needless to say, it's things like this that make me really wish I had re-upgraded to an Android!

When I try to connect to AirPlay Display via my iMac, it says it's connected, but my TV goes into a full black screen mode. Despite it says it's connected to AirPlay display, I cannot actually change from Extend Desktop (my default) to Mirror iMac for example, as it doesn't allow to select it. Also, if I "open display preferences" I don't have any "Arrengement" tab as I have on my MacBook Air where it is working ok.

The Mail app cannot be deleted, so it is there somewhere. Look at all of your other Home screens to see if you can find it.
If you cannot, do a spotlight search to see if it got accidently moved into a folder: swipe down in the center of the screen to bring up the search bar - type in Mail - you should see the Mail icon in the search results. If it got moved into a folder, you will see the folder name on the right side. If it is in a folder, open the folder, and tap and hold the Mail icon until it wiggles, then slide it out and back to the place where you want it to be.
If that doesn' work, you can also go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout. This will move all of your icons into the original order that they were on the phone. You may have to move stuff around after this to where you want it to be, but all of the Apple system apps will be on the first Home screen.

The email seems genuine enough as it asks you to sign in with your Apple ID and password and takes you through to the Apple site but am a bit worried as they ask you in the section Update Your Apple account for bank and credit card details and for the security number on the back of the card. Also in the section where it asks for my mobile number it will only take 10 numbers and when ai try to put in the final (11th number) it won't let me. Sorry am new to all this and a bit confused! SuperDrives wear out - it seems that yours might be on the verge of a mechanical failure. I'd just replace it, buying a new drive from Other World Computing and installing it yourself (because Apple would charge a small fortune).
