Has anyone ever figured out how to get a decent resolution menu in SD?

Every time I have to author a DVD from DVD Studio Pro I am unhappy. The menu always looks horrible, very low resolution, notably the text. In the past I've tried a dozen different things to get it to look better. Making the menu in Photoshop, text and all, making it EXACTLY the right size for SD ... I've never found a setting in preferences that would suggest a higher quality rendering of the menu. The resolution of image and text in the actual MPEG2 file, the movie itself, is just fine (in this case done by Compressor), but the DVD Studio Pro menu, always sub-standard.
Does it make a difference if I set (in the preferences) final rendering as 'hardware based' or 'software based'? (I'm trying a test at the moment... but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.)
Perhaps someone has figured a fix over the last year? Or perhaps someone can suggest a better app that interfaces nicely with FCP/Compressor?
All ears, Ben

I haven't done any real menu creation in a couple years, but I know exactly what you're talking about. It has to do with pixel aspect ratios, and it was really confusing.
IIRC, the widescreen template in Photoshop didn't correspond correctly with DVDSP. I was able to get a clean menu by creating it, resizing it, then saving and importing into DVDSP. The menu looked way out of whack when I saved in Photoshop, but came through crisp and clean in DVDSP.
Sorry I can't remember the exact details, but it's at least a direction to start looking in.

  • Has anyone ever figured out how to interact with PP events from LabVIEW?

We would like to know how to interface a motor control system with a powerpoint file such that after each motor step is complete the next slide is shown and so on.
Direct contact can be made via [email protected]
    Cheers Jim & Jon

You can use PP or just put your graphs in a picture control, easyly passing from one step to the next. If you prefer using PP, you could use ActiveX, as is done to control Excel within LabVIEW.
    Good luck

  • Anyone ever figure out how to correct FaceTime Registration Error?

I am getting the same old error when trying to turn on FaceTime.  I reinstalled lion and now FaceTime will not register when I turn it on and type in my AppleID and password.  I have seen this before but it started working all of a sudden???  The console log shows an error:
"imagent:  (warning)   -   TRUST validation failed with result 5"
I have talked to applecare and they were stumped also, but said they would call engineering.  They tried all the usual stuff;  reset permissions/acl's, deleted plist files, deleted some certificates.  I was hoping since this is a reocurring issue with FaceTime someone might know a solution to this validation error by the imagent.
    Any info would be appreciated.

Solved by AppleCare!    Good job Gary...thank you.  The trick was to delete all the files in the home/library/preferences folder and then rebooting the computer, which replaces them to defaults.  Then it worked...but it requires you to re-setup all your preference settings like you had them before.  I am not sure exactly what was fixed by doing this but it worked after that.  However, the next day after setting up my preferences like they were before FaceTime got the same server registration error.?  So, I had a thought...maybe it is the certificate settings in keychain access which I had changed to be more restrictive.  Once I changed the certificate settings back to defaults, FaceTime worked again.  Evidently something about the OCSP  or CRL verification setting for certificates in the keychain preferences caused the registration error with the FaceTime server.
Hope this helps anyone else who has similar problem with FaceTime registration error.

  • Did anyone ever figure out how to fix the front camera on the ipod touch?

  • Has anyone figured out how to get speech recognition working with sticky keys enabled on mountain lion?

I'm trying to use speech recognition to input text on my iMac running the latest mountain lion, 10.8.3.
    I have sticky keys enabled.
When I try to start speaking by pressing the function key twice nothing happens. I can only get it to work if I disable sticky keys.
The same problem occurs with all the other modifier keys as shortcut, they do not work with sticky keys.
When I try to select a different shortcut, I am unable to select a two key combination, but am limited to one.
If I select the F6 key, or any other single key, I am able to start speech recognition. However the second time that I press the key, it does not stop recognition and process my words. Instead, it restarts the recognition.
Has anyone figured out how to get speech recognition working with sticky keys enabled?
Or a way to get an individual key shortcut to start on the first press and process it on the second?
Or a way to get key combinations to work, as specified by the help:
    Dictation On and Off
    To use Dictation, click On.
When you’re ready to dictate text, place the insertion point where you want the dictated text to appear and press the Fn (function) key twice. When you see the lighted microphone icon and hear a beep, the microphone is ready for you to speak your text.
    Shortcut
By default, you press the Fn (Function) key twice to start dictation. If you like, you can choose a different shortcut from the menu.
To create a shortcut that’s not in the list, choose Customize, and then press the keys you want to use. You can press two or more keys to create your shortcut.

I noticed with version 10.8.4 of OS X that I am now able to select F6 to activate, and the return key to complete the speech recognition. This is still different than the description of how these should function that's included in the help, but at least it's an improvement.

  • When i try to install snow leopard with install disk, it has me restart the computer instead of installing. can anyone help me figure out how to get the disk to actually install?

when i try to install snow leopard with install disk, it has me restart the computer instead of installing. can anyone help me figure out how to get the disk to actually install?

Ok, it's just a glitch that it's not auto-rebooting from the disk.
Please backup your personal files off the machine to a regualr external drive and disconnect all drives before doing anything
Take the 10.6 disk out and clean and polish the bottom with a very soft clean cloth and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol to cut the oils.
Stick the disk in and reboot holding c key down, this will make it boot from the disk and you can install Snow Leopard that way.

Edit > Preferences.  Select the check box for Ringtones, this will add them to the listing in iTunes.
Not sure that really answers your question though.

He dragged the icon out of the dock at the bottom and disappeared. That icon is merely a "shortcut" that opens the application when you click on it.
You still have the app. Open your applications folder and look for the App Store app icon. Click and hold down on the App Store icon and drag the icon down into the dock to replace it. That puts the shortcut back into the dock.

    It's in your Users>Applications folder?

    Hi,
Please try pressing '''Ctrl''' + '''0''' (zero). This resets the zoom. Alternatively, '''View '''(Alt + '''V''') > '''Zoom''' > '''Reset'''.

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks

  • Transferring some files from old hard drive to new mac book pro: How do I do this?  I bought a SATA Wire, and can't figure out how to get my files

Hi there, my old mac book recently died and I opted to buy a new macbook pro, instead of pouring lots of money into the old computer.  I was able to get my hard drive out, and I bought a 2.5" Sata Nootbook Drive Upgrade Kit.  I have also installed superduper!....but I can't really figure out how to get everything to work.  I just want to be able to take some of my files from my hard drive, not everything...
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I don't know what a "2.5" Sata Nootbook Drive Upgrade Kit" is but if you have a internal drive you need to connect all you needed was a $20 IDE/SATA to USB adapter
You don't need Superduper, that's software designed to clone a entire Mac's boot drive to a external drive for bootable backup purposes using the same machine/make/model.
Since the new Mac is different than the old one you can't clone (well you could but it will break the machine) the old drive to the new one.
However you can use the adapter above and software Apple provides in the Utilities folder on the NEW MAC, called Migration Assistant to transfer your User to the new machine.
However this might not be the best course of action as it can transfer unwanted data and cause problems in the Library, old programs that won't run on 10.7, etc.
You can simply create the same named user on the machine (System Preferences > Accounts) log into it and then connect the external drive with the adapter and copy the contents of your users folders over and place into the same.
It's always good to have another Admin level user account on the machine in case the primary one has a User based issue and you need to log into the other and grab files. So if either manually or via using Migration Assistant you wind up with two user accounts on the machine, it's really not that big of a deal.

I have purchased Adobe XI Pro and created a form for entering bowling scores to submit to newspaper for my high school team.  I can not figure out how to get pdf's into my documents folder on my iPad so that I can access the files in bowling alleys where I do not have a Wi-Fi connections.  I need to be able access files without going to acrobat.com.  Help!!!@

Post the PDF files to a web site. The browse to them in Safari on the iPad.  When you Open the files specify the Open to occur in Adobe Reader.  Then you can have/Save them in your Documents folder on the iPad.   An iPad has limited access to files otherwise.
