Safari 4x has become unusable!
I've been using Safari since 2005 and have loved it up until v4. It's always been blazingly fast and stable.
Since v4.0, and with every update since, Safari has been getting slower and slower, more unstable (crashes where it never crashed before v4) and some pages just refuse to load but stall out.
I have tried Open DNS like this forum has suggested. That seemed to really help the page loading with 4.1.1. But Safari has kept crashing. A lot (and yes, I send in the reports).
I still use Open DNS and now with the new 4.1.2 I am back again to slow page loading. Today I clicked on a site, waited 20 seconds while watching the beach ball spin, decided to launch Camino, and Camino launched and loaded the page while Safari kept spinning it's wheels. Lately I've been using Camino more and more. It reminds me of the Safari of old.
What gives? I'd really like to know. I see the app size getting bigger and bigger for Safari (currently 79 MB) while the svelte Camino comes in at 47 MB and Firefox at 53 MB.
Oh and please don't tell me about "third party add-ons". I don't have any. Nothing has changed in years except for the updates to Safari, and v4 has become unusable for me. I've also got the latest Java, Flash etc. and I make sure everything is always updated with the latest software.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it my PBG4? Why do other browsers perform better for me while Safari has slowed down and become so unstable?HI,

Safari works with iTunes, so yes, the app size will increase where third party browsers aren't effected.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash information.
Now copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply here. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

How much free disk space on your PBook? Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

My iPhone 6 has become unusable.
apps keep crashing, e.g. the native Mail app won't even open.
Whatsapp doesn't show pictures sent
Other apps e.g. web browser Open then bounce straight back to the home screen
There was an update waiting to be installed, the latest iOS version so I tried that but it was in vain.

That is simply not true. There is a 10+ page thread on this very same subject in the Comcast forums on DSLR.
Some customers on every major ISP in the US (Comcast, TWC, FIOS) are openly complaining about Netflix issues. From what I can tell it depends where you are and time of day. The ISPs are letting their CDN ports get saturated and are making no moves to fix it. Kind of makes sense when you consider they all have video streaming services of their own and that they compete with Netflix.
Other people think this is a Netflix issue...i.e. if all the ISPs are having issues with Netflix is must be Netflix's problem.
The ISPs have been remarkably quiet on this issue. The only recent post I have seen anywhere is in the Comcast Forums:

So take it for what you will. IMHO this is about all about money and the ISPs are to blame.
Having said all that, CableVision is the one of the very few that joined Netflix OpenConnect, so if Netflix is that important to you moving to them is a very good idea. Most people don't have that option.

The App Store recently has become quite unusable:

- no more "Latest free Apps" category
- "New" panel doesn't show the latest Apps in the current category
- especially in the category "Games" there's no way to see the latest Apps

I'm not going to the app store anymore. The main reason I was going in the app store was to see the new apps, and now Apple has remove the link. After the downgraded update of iMovie, it's the second stupiest move from Apple. -
Hello I have recently been having problems with notes and it has become completely unusable although it opens okay when I try to edit or delete a note it just crashes I have no idea what is causing this I have unchecked the boxes from iCloud but it is always the same I think it needs a complete reinstall
I'm running mountain lion version 10.8.2

I'm using Mercury browser at the moment and it's OK, but I really like Safari.The following is from user RandomName42, who provides lots of ideas.
The font size doesn't affect the font size of the icons, which the new folder layout makes even harder to read than it is against a regular background.
I deal with migraines and avoid bright light where I can, so figuring out how to work around Apple's design on this one is going to be huge. I'm encountering (and working on finding a way to avoid) huge unbroken bright spaces in the OS. I've known for a while that, at work, my monitors will eventually give me headaches but my iPad wouldn't. I'd been using the iPad as a break from monitor glare to stop them from kicking in full-blast. I didn't realize until yesterday that it was because so much of my iPad screen is darker - deeper greys, for example, in the settings menu, than the blue of my menus in Outlook. I had the new iOS for about 10 minutes before the first migraine started. I love Apple's attention to aesthetics and design mentality, but goodness they use migraine triggers a lot in this design.
Potentially useful ideas:
General -> Accessibility -> Bold Text to ON. You may still have to squint a bit but letters will be ~much~ easier on the eyes.
General -> Accessibility -> Increase Contrast to ON. This takes away the bright fuzzy backgrounds when you open folders and makes them less fuzzy grey ones. It also darkens the bright fuzzy bar across the bottom of the screen to be a darker grey. It does not darken the bright fuzzy folders icons on the app pages or make Notes, Reminders or new Safari pages (or existing ones while you type a new address) much better, but is a huge step forward. It definitely makes mail and Messages much less pain-inducing, though they could stand to go darker.
General -> Accessibility -> Reduce Motion to ON. This seems to cost me the pretty effects with app icons, but with all of the fuzziness they've added to folders and the your-apps bar, it helps avoid ~shifting~ fuzziness. Which turns out to cause problems for me. Who knew?
General -> Accessitiliby -> Invert Colors to ON. ******* ONLY while in the Settings menu or Apple's screens like Safari, Reminders and Mail. I've been told I might be able to assign it to a triple tap, which should make switching easier. Haven't figured out how yet.
App Switcher - Either don't use it or kill all Apple screens you aren't actively using. This cuts down on the large light squares that fill the screen in the app switcher now. Not using it would be a hassle, but would also cut down on the heightened visibility of everything I have open when switching between apps I use at work. I'm undecided which I'll end up going with.
Use new screen pages instead of folders. I love the new folder design. My migraine-ridden brain doesn't, though. /-: With the old folder design, you knew an app in a folder was on screen if the folder was open and could let your gaze sweep over it multiple times to identify the icon. Now it may not be on the screen, so you have to focus specifically on smaller icons against a fuzzy-ish background. Focusing on something meant to be fuzzy is apparently one of my headache triggers. If the folders were darker or I could show the same number of icons, this would be much less a problem, but for now... I'm not sure that having a page for each folder is doable or worth the hassle, though. Might just end up moving the apps I use less often into a set of folders on a last page I don't have to visit often or just deleting them to minimize folders.
Remember your brightness setting needs to be lower than it looks. This one seems obvious but surprised me with the frustration it causes. When you open the lower dock that has the brightness control, it darkens the rest of the screen. If you set your brightness so that what you want to look at seems right, it will brighten further after you close the menu and go back to it. I don't have a feel yet for how much lower I need to set the brightness, but I assume that will come with time. Also: Setting brightness higher makes the menu itself brighter to look at, so judge headache likeliness with that in mind.
Settings -> Wallpapers & Brightness -> Auto-Brightness to OFF. This OS is super on-the-ball about adjusting brightness automatically. Which is awesome sometimes, but less so when you manually set the brightness, go back to the screen and watch it change from what you just set it to. You may end up with darker screens than you want until you adjust the setting, but you won't end up with brighter screens than you want.
We'll probably just have to deal with the big fuzzy bar across the bottom of the screen and having to look more carefully at the big fuzzy squares behind folders now. It helps to think of them as Monet menus. -

Spotify on Windows Phone 8.1 has become practically unusable
Hey Folks, I've had this problem for a long time (many many months) and have been too lazy to post assuming that this is a issue affecting loads of others and that it would just get sorted but I've come to the point where I really need to find out what is happening. I absolutely love Spotify and use it reuglarly on my ipad and windows phone however my love affair with Spotify on my phone ispractically over. The app has become really unreliable and more often than not...unusable. Often it takes forever to load and I just see the scrolling (loading) green dots for ages before I give up. Ages being 5-10 minutes before I lose interest. Assuming I do get in, I then go to my playlists and the whole thing happens again, more and more scrolling which sometimes results in the playlists being revealed or again i just simply give up. If I do get to a playlist, I will select it....cue more scrolling whilst it tries to load the track lists which invariably never happens. Art work, none existent and if I do manage to play one track, the rest of the tracks on the album fail to get listed. If I even dare to go back to look at the playlists again, the whole thing starts over. It can literally take me twenty minutes to get round to playing one track! You'd think that this might be the sort of behaviour you'd get in a area of bad signal but this happens when i'm at home using my 50mb wifi and despite being connected to my wifi, which is reliable on all my other systems, I often get the message saying that Spotify is offline or can't connect to the network. I assume that this isn't a problem with my phone and is affecting others out there but it's become intolerable and since i pay my monthly premium Spotify subscription I expect a product that works. I understand that things get glitchy but this has been happening for the best part of the year and I really should now cancel my payments. If the problem gets fixed then I'd gladly sign up again and pay the fee but at the mo I'm not sure what I'm paying for. I never have this problem with the app on my ipad so clearly this is a windows phone problem. I have tried deleting the app and resintalling but nothing seems to work. Could you guys advise anything else I can try or at least let me know that you're aware of the problem and are trying to fix it and let us know when an update will be sent out. I know this didn't happen when I first used Spotify over a year or two ago. Thanks :-)
Hi, So glad it's not just me that is having this issue. The app is virtually unusable at the moment. The thought of having to uninstall and then spend hours, maybe days, re-syncing is not something I'll consider. Just sent the following e-mail - I'll let you know their response. If they offer me 2 months free, I'll ask them to take the offer and place it where the sun don't shine. Premium is pointless if the app doesn't work!!!!! Hi, I hope you can help. I have been a Spotify premium customer for a fair while now, and up until recently, would have recommended you to anyone - in fact, I have done just that, many times. However, seeing as you seem unable to sort out the issues with the app on Windows phone, I feel our relationship is at breaking point, and that makes me sad. A summary of the issues I have.1) Speed - It would be quicker for me to go visit the band, ask then to set up their instruments and play a song for me than it is to start the app, and get to a playlist - even when connected to wifi. I have a commute of around 90 minutes, and about a 3rd of that is spent trying to get to a playlist and start it actually playing2) Reliability - quite frankly, this is a joke. When I eventually get to a playlist, try and open it, it crashes. Admittedly, these playlists are quite large (700+ songs) but it's now started doing it on smaller playlists (one in particular is 270 songs). Considering the amount if time it takes to get to a playlist, and the time I spend curating these playlists, the thought of having to break these down into smaller chunks is not something I am willing to consider at this point.3) Syncing - 48 attempts (yes, I'm that sad that I counted) to sync a playlist of 700 songs. Sometimes it just stops (seemingly randomly) and says 'pending'. I later found out that this is because songs on the playlist had been removed by the artist (yes, I'm looking at you Prince!!!). Once I'd fired up the desktop app, removed these from the playlist) and then re-opened the app on my phone (after it had crashed) it would start syncing again. And then stop. And then crash. Surely it could simply skip unavailable files rather than just stop. I'm really rather fed up. I love Windows Phone. It's UI is far better than anything Android or that other lot have come up with, it syncs with my other Windows devices, and the majority of the apps I use (with the exception of iPlayer) are pretty darn perfect. They work. They don't crash, nor take an age to load. So please, please, please tell me that a) you are working on a fix, and b) that you will treat us Windows Phone users as equals. Some of us are normal. You'll probably ask for these so here are my detailsPhone - Lumia 640 (was the same on my old phone - a Lumia 920)OS - Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 (8.10.15148.160)Spotify Username - rm4rml I don't want to move to one of the rivals, as I've been a Spotify user for as long as I can remember. My timeline area has become huge - can't get at bottom bar
I haven't worked on FCE for a while and when I got a project back up the timeline area has become way too big and I can't access the bottom bar. I have no idea how this happened or what to to. I've read the manual but there is no information on how to get rid of the unnecessary space above the video and under the audio. I don't want to make the tracks smaller, I just want to get rid of the empty unusable area, since I can't get to the bottom of the whole area to click on the tab that would help me narrow it. I find this very curious. I have tried all kinds of old projects and they all come up on this dreadful format of much too much area in the timeline. It's probably some dumb thing, but I need help. Thanks in advance.
No point in reinstalling as the application is working correctly. With the selection tool if you go to the top edge of the timeline window the arrow should change into the resizining tool. This will let you resize the window. There is only so far you can resize it depending on your monitor resolution. If this is not working there is a problem with your system or your mouse.

Safari becoming unusable. Crashes, Pop-ups, freezes
Over the past month or so Safari has become more and more unstable and unusable. Pop-up ads are getting through the blocker, and it crashes several times a day, often when loading some banner ad or such thing on random pages.
Are advertisers using new code that Safari doesn't support or recognize? What's going on? Anyone else noticing this rapidly deteriorating performance? I'm on 10.5.5 with all the latest updates on a quad 2.8 Mac Pro with 6GB of RAM.No, it's definitely a problem with Safari and the way it's handing some flash-based ads, and still persists in 3.2.
The number of pop-ups that get though seems to have lessened, but 3.2 has other instability issues that I'm not thrilled with.
I'm not having problems with any other software on this mac, and use it heavily daily for everything from Pro Tools to Photoshop to iMovie and iDVD. Everything else is working fine, it's just Safari and it's issues with certain sites/ads causing freezing and unexpected quits that is extremely frustrating. -
2014 iMac becomes unusable when photos are loaded.
My '2014 27" 3TB with fusion drive iMac' becomes unusable if I load a few photos or video. Apple support talked me through a system restore which I did and it worked fine afterwards but as soon as I load any pics again it becomes unresponsive. As an example Safari, mail, iphoto etc take at least a couple of minutes to open and once in I get constant spinning wheel when trying to move around in an app. My iMac was sent away for repair after 6 months due to a screen failure that left me with coloured lines all over the display - perhaps that has something to do with it because it's never been the same since the repair.
Thanks for your reply and clear concise instruction. I'm sure it would usually take a few seconds to carry out but it's taken me nearly 20 minutes! It really is a painful experience (5mins to type these few lines!).

FCP render files become unusable
We have 5 FCP sets connected to a XSAN environment. All sets are running FCP 5.1.1/OSX 10.4.7/XSAN 1.4. There are two Metadata servers running OSX server 10.4.7. The backup metadata server is also running as directory master.
Every set has it's own directory user (for example SET1). No local users exist. The set's users are joined in a directory group (SAN_users).
The XSAN environment consists of folders which belong to a certain project (for example COMMERCIAL_1000). The XSAN volume uses ACL to control access rights. The directory group (SAN_users) has the rights to do everything on the volume.
When a project is started on SET1, render files generated by SET1 become unusable if the project was openend on SET2. It's not that the same project is open on both sets at the same time. If you work with your project on SET1 on monday, and on thursday you have to work on it in SET3, the render files of the project are useless.
Does anyone have any suggestion how render files can be preserved?
Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.8) 2GHz/2Gb/120GbSo when you open the project(s) in question, do you get the reconnect prompt?...and does it show the render files in the dialog box?
I've seen FCP 'lose' render files in the past, but have never determined exactly why, and it's not been an issue to simply re-render. I'm sure it is an issue for you.
I don't know the decklink processes, so don't know if that is part of the problem. Hopefully others will.
Are you certain you've told FCP to send render files to the drive you expect them to be on?
Have you run standard maintenance procedures?...Trash prefs w/FCP Rescue, Run Disk Utility/Repair permissions...etc?

Catch Up Service Becoming Unusable
We have BT Infinity at home and have a consistantly good connection, I honestly cannot fault the download speed or connection, but the catch up service on our You View box has reached the point where it is becoming unusable. Yesterday we tried to watch 3 different programs on 4player and iplayer and they all got 45-50 mins in and then failed. The iplayer programs just hung there with the buffering icon and the 4player program would play the last lot of adverts and then hang on the last frame of the final advert and not send us back to the program.
I assumed at first that it was the powerline networking playing up so I switched to a 5m network cable and that hasn't helped.
I have tried calling the support line, but after queueing get told to turn it off and on again (tried that) but since the problem takes 45 mins or so to occur they tell me to call back when it happens again (another 20 minute queue) and another suggestion to turn it off and on again.
Has anyone else encountered this problem, or got any suggestions we are tied into BT for another 9 months otherwise I'd be off to another provider by now.
