Spotify on Windows Phone 8.1 has become practically unusable

Hey Folks, I've had this problem for a long time (many many months) and have been too lazy to post assuming that this is a issue affecting loads of others and that it would just get sorted but I've come to the point where I really need to find out what is happening. I absolutely love Spotify and use it reuglarly on my ipad and windows phone however my love affair with Spotify on my phone ispractically over.  The app has become really unreliable and more often than not...unusable.  Often it takes forever to load and I just see the scrolling (loading) green dots for ages before I give up.  Ages being 5-10 minutes before I lose interest.  Assuming I do get in, I then go to my playlists and the whole thing happens again, more and more scrolling which sometimes results in the playlists being revealed or again i just simply give up. If I do get to a playlist, I will select it....cue more scrolling whilst it tries to load the track lists which invariably never happens.  Art work, none existent and if I do manage to play one track, the rest of the tracks on the album fail to get listed.  If I even dare to go back to look at the playlists again, the whole thing starts over.  It can literally take me twenty minutes to get round to playing one track! You'd think that this might be the sort of behaviour you'd get in a area of bad signal but this happens when i'm at home using my 50mb wifi and despite being connected to my wifi, which is reliable on all my other systems, I often get the message saying that Spotify is offline or can't connect to the network. I assume that this isn't a problem with my phone and is affecting others out there but it's become intolerable and since i pay my monthly premium Spotify subscription I expect a product that works.  I understand that things get glitchy but this has been happening for the best part of the year and I really should now cancel my payments.  If the problem gets fixed then I'd gladly sign up again and pay the fee but at the mo I'm not sure what I'm paying for. I never have this problem with the app on my ipad so clearly this is a windows phone problem.  I have tried deleting the app and resintalling but nothing seems to work. Could you guys advise anything else I can try or at least let me know that you're aware of the problem and are trying to fix it and let us know when an update will be sent out. I know this didn't happen when I first used Spotify over a year or two ago. Thanks :-)

Hi, So glad it's not just me that is having this issue. The app is virtually unusable at the moment. The thought of having to uninstall and then spend hours, maybe days, re-syncing is not something I'll consider. Just sent the following e-mail - I'll let you know their response. If they offer me 2 months free, I'll ask them to take the offer and place it where the sun don't shine. Premium is pointless if the app doesn't work!!!!! Hi, I hope you can help. I have been a Spotify premium customer for a fair while now, and up until recently, would have recommended you to anyone - in fact, I have done just that, many times. However, seeing as you seem unable to sort out the issues with the app on Windows phone, I feel our relationship is at breaking point, and that makes me sad. A summary of the issues I have.1) Speed - It would be quicker for me to go visit the band, ask then to set up their instruments and play a song for me than it is to start the app, and get to a playlist - even when connected to wifi. I have a commute of around 90 minutes, and about a 3rd of that is spent trying to get to a playlist and start it actually playing2) Reliability - quite frankly, this is a joke. When I eventually get to a playlist, try and open it, it crashes. Admittedly, these playlists are quite large (700+ songs) but it's now started doing it on smaller playlists (one in particular is 270 songs). Considering the amount if time it takes to get to a playlist, and the time I spend curating these playlists, the thought of having to break these down into smaller chunks is not something I am willing to consider at this point.3) Syncing - 48 attempts (yes, I'm that sad that I counted) to sync a playlist of 700 songs. Sometimes it just stops (seemingly randomly) and says 'pending'. I later found out that this is because songs on the playlist had been removed by the artist (yes, I'm looking at you Prince!!!). Once I'd fired up the desktop app, removed these from the playlist) and then re-opened the app on my phone (after it had crashed) it would start syncing again. And then stop. And then crash. Surely it could simply skip unavailable files rather than just stop. I'm really rather fed up. I love Windows Phone. It's UI is far better than anything Android or that other lot have come up with, it syncs with my other Windows devices, and the majority of the apps I use (with the exception of iPlayer) are pretty darn perfect. They work. They don't crash, nor take an age to load. So please, please, please tell me that a) you are working on a fix, and b) that you will treat us Windows Phone users as equals. Some of us are normal. You'll probably ask for these so here are my detailsPhone - Lumia 640 (was the same on my old phone - a Lumia 920)OS - Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 (8.10.15148.160)Spotify Username - rm4rml I don't want to move to one of the rivals, as I've been a Spotify user for as long as I can remember. I love it like a child. We've been through a lot together. Some good times (Prince adding all his music) and some bad times (him taking it all off again), and the offline access is essential to my experience. Thanking you in advance.

    Hello, I have installed the Spotify app for Windows Phone 8 but it does not work. When I try and log in, it says that I need a premium account error code 409. I tried uninstalling it and reinsallting it and it still does not work. I can log in and use spotify radio on my ipod touch with no problem. I tried logging in with my spotify user name and my facebook user name and both give the same error. I have an AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 smartphone. Thanks.

    Ummm, maybe if windows phone requires a premium membership (which i understand was probably because of microsoft trying to push xbox music) maybe you should go ahead and stop advertising that its free for 'mobile' on the spotify app. you know since at this moment i have the mobile app and would require premium. specify apple and android. or continue to get a load of complaints and some bad reviews (incase you haven't noticed your windows marketplace rating recently dropped to 2.5 stars.

  • My Iphone 5 has become nearly unusable since 8.02

    Since 8.02 was updated on my IPhone 5 most of the apps take 4 or 5 attempts to respond, sometimes they don't and I have to switch off and switch on again and then they don't always work..... anyone had this problem? Getting really fed up with it now.

    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like you've updated your iPhone 5 to iOS 8.0.2, and now applications are unresponsive when you try to launch them. That's an unexpected result of updating, and I can definitely see how it's frustrating.
    Since the situation stays the same after restarting your phone, I'd recommend another step to help isolate the issue.
    As mentioned in the troubleshooting guide iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open, try reinstalling one of the apps that isn't launching.
    Delete the app.
    Press the Home button.
    Go to the App Store and download the app again.
    Wait for the app to download, then open it from the Home screen.
    If the download stops, you can resume it.
    If Apple applications (such as Mail, Newsstand, or Safari) are becoming unresponsive, I'd recommend backing up and restoring iOS using the steps in this article:
    Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • Ihave used Firefox for years with great success. But since I updated to Firefox 4.0.1, it has become almost unusable. It is agonizingly slow for me, and crashes constantly. Can I go back to the previous version of Firefox?

    I am using windows XP, and have a DSL connection that is not very fast. I think the new version of Firefox may be too complex and have too many things going on for my connection.
    The last version worked flawlessly. I had no problems until updating to Firefox 4.0.1, but now I can barely use it.

  • Well the screen on my Macbook has become well unusable and well the screen flickers then freezes and i cannot move the mouse unless i hold the screen i suspect something is loose in the screen which connects it to the hard drive and keyboard

    i find this to be very annoying and i am suspecting i will have to take my Macie to get repaired i was just wondering is anyone else has any similar problems i find this very annoying and i am not all too sure how it has begun to happen due to the fact that i have NEVER dropped or done anything to harm my macie and well i do not understand why this is happening i mostly use my computer while sitting at a desk so i do not understand but oh well i am rambling on please if anyone has had a similar problem do share.

    If your screen is flickering, you might have a hardware issue there. I would take Macie to the doctor and have her checked out.

  • Garageband has become totally unusable

    Does anyone else find Garageband likes to lose files on a regular basis, AND/OR swap sequences in your projects without you asking it to?

    I've never experienced it, but I have read comments from others in this forum that have. I have had some files go missing in iMovie though. What saved the day was going to a backup that still had all the files. If you're experiencing something similar with GB, short of a real answer, I'd recommend that you too make sure you backup your files so that you could always restore from them should one go missing.

  • Windows phone 8.1 spotify gets stuck when loading the app.

    When i open the app it satys in the loading page... it never loads.. i tried to reinstall and works but again i am back to the same problem. is very anoying since i cannot even play any music.. i am paying for nothing :S 

    Spotify's Windows Phone app is embarrasing. I received "support" from them a couple of weeks ago regarding this issue on Twitter. While they were resposive, they simply suggested the "uninstall, reboot & reinstall" trick. That worked for about 24 hours, then nothing but dots for the songs in my playlists - after they take forever to load up. Those same playlists load instantly on my iPad. Spotify - Sure, the Windows Phone market isn't huge compared to your iOS and Android customer base. However, by releasing an app that gives the user - paid users (like me) - a horrible experience, you will lose those customers to an alternate service. Because of this lack of support and caring, I will likely move my paid subscription (and my two family memebers) to a different service that works properly on ALL devices. Maybe I will revisit this service once you have a good universal Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile app (see my other rant: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Windows-8-Metro-App/idc-p/1141848#M37322 ). Lumia 830 - WP 8.1 (Denim) Update 2 - US / T-Mobile

    While we're focusing initially on Windows Store apps, other platforms are definitely something that we'll be taking into account as we get store apps up and running.
    I agree with your comments about Windows Phone - and since there's a very close relationship between store and Windows Phone apps that would be a natural target for us to go after next.   We don't have specific timelines yet, but Phone is definitely
    a target that we'll be looking at sooner than later.
    Windows Desktop has a much larger surface area to pull in, so that would be something which would take longer to get up and running than Phone support will take.

    Microsoft in Windows phone 8.1 has added new Nfc related features including low level access(Non NDEF). I have Nokia Lumia 830 (PN547 NFC chipset is present in this device).Im not able to detect Nfc tag (ANT-7M24LR-A ,ISO15693) through Lumia 830, which
    im able to read/write using Nfc-V(ISO15693) in Android. I also have a Lumia 720 (old NFC hardware) but atleast it is able to detect the tag. Has anyone encountered this ? Whats the workaround ?

    Current OS version on the Lumia 830  is : Windows Phone 8.1 Update (8.10.14157.200)
    I have taken reference of  the NFC Smart Card Reader project(nfcsmartcardreader codeplex) to read/ write to the tag. We are trying to read/write to the tag (ISO 15693) using the low level APIs (Non NDEF format).
    But my problem is that even before we can send/receive the data from the tag, the phone is not detecting the tag itself. If i try to debug the card added event doesnot fire in any case for (ANT-7 M24-LR-A) tag.
    I also have a Lumia 720 (old NFC hardware) but it is atleast able to detect the above mentioned tag.
    Lumia 830 is able to detect other tags like a generic NFC sticker (Mifare Ultralight) .

    Well, have you tied to read NFC Tag using Proximity API? If not, please refer to this article:

    In the Nokia Software Recovery Tool, what is your 7-letter code (Nokia Product Code)? No Windows computer or USB: The same code is printed on your phone. That code determines your firmware variant which determines your current version. We can check together whether you have the correct variant, only with that code.

  • Notes has become unusable

    Hello I have recently been having problems with notes and it has become completely unusable although it opens okay when I try to edit or delete a note it just crashes I have no idea what is causing this I have unchecked  the boxes from iCloud but it is always the same I think it needs a complete reinstall

    This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
