Have Voiceover read dictated commands
I'm helping out a blind relative test out Mac OS to see if it would be better for her than her current Windows setup (she uses JAWS and it is not a great experience).
I've noticed that, separate to VoiceOver, is the ability to dictate commands in the Dictation & Speech section of OS X. So, you can double-tap Fn then just start talking... "Launch Safari.... Open new window.... switch to Pages.... New document...." etc etc. This is great and could be really useful for her but the only problem is that VoiceOver is temporarily disabled while dictation is active! This means that while you are navigating the computer using Dictation, there is zero audible feedback of what you have just done. So there is no way of knowing if saying "Launch Safari" actually worked, and if did, what field the cursor is on.
Does anyone know if my understanding is correct or have I missed a setting somewhere? It would be so great to use Dictation to navigate the computer, and have VoiceOver narrate your progress by telling you where you have got to. The only workaround I've found is to end Dictatation (press Fn again) after every command, at which point VoiceOver kicks in again and says where you are, then double-tap Fn again and repeat, which is a bit clunky.

In order to do that you have to open Terminal and enter these two commands:
defaults write com.apple.SpeechRecognitionCore AllowAudioDucking -bool NO
defaults write com.apple.SpeechRecognitionCore AllowAudioDucking -bool NO
defaults write com.apple.speech.recognition.AppleSpeechRecognition.prefs DictationIMAllowAudioDucking -bool NO
Once you've entered it, turn off dictation in system preferences for a few seconds, then turn it back on. It worked for me.
to restore AudioDucking:
defaults write com.apple.SpeechRecognitionCore AllowAudioDucking -bool YES
defaults write com.apple.speech.recognition.AppleSpeechRecognition.prefs DictationIMAllowAudioDucking -bool YES

I've begun to use the dictation feature within Accessibility>Dictation. When I first started to use that feature there was a nice little list that could attach itself to the desktop and float around that would be a good cheat sheet for dictation commands. Somehow I closed that window and have not been able to figure out how to get it back again. Google searches have not been very helpful so I thought I would come here and ask the community. Anybody know I can get my cheat sheet back of dictation commands for my desktop?
Of course, if there any training exercises or videos for how to use dictation in Yosemite that would be greatly appreciated toWell I figured it out… all you do say show commands :-/

I'm using VoiceOver for proofreading purposes. I exported my Word processing document (LibreOffice .odt format) to plain text (.txt) and have opened the file in TextEdit.
What I want to do is read the contents of TextEdit from the start until I find an error, pause, go fix the error in the original document (in LibreOffice) then resume reading aloud in TextEdit from where I left off. However, there doesn't seem to be a read from where I am to the end command. Every time I try Ctrl-A, VoiceOver reads the TextEdit document from the beginning.
Having clicked it TextEdit where I want to start reading, how do I (1) set that location to be the location of the VoiceOver cursor and (2) tell it to start reading again from that point?
And is there any way to tell VoiceOver I only want it to be active when I am in TextEdit?Hi Agasthuri,
I guess from R/3 you mean ABAP stack and not the actual R/3.
And the restart of the Java stack won't help.
The problem is not the communication between Java and ABAP.
Point is that the data is not getting collected for some reason.
even then for the sake of try, i ahve done it for no use.:-(

I have trouble reading in Black and White. changing the background color for all
I have trouble reading in Black and White. On my PC I can change the background color (and I am not just talking about for a word or pages document) but for eveything so anything that was a white background I can put in what ever color I like but it still prints in Black and white.. I can't see how to do this on the Macbook air. on my PC I do this in display. Sort of putting colored film over the screen I dont know what to do. Can anyone help?

You may be interested in the 'invert colors' Accessibility feature. This can be invoked by pressing the Control, Option, Command, and 8 keys on your keyboard. This only affects your display, and does not have any affect on printed items.

Dictation Commands won't work with Word
The enhanced Dictation Commands work but not on Word. It does recognise some of the commands, but mostly it just turns them into text. Has any one else experienced this or got a solution?
I have just installed Rh10 for Word on a new machine and initially I got this message.
I wonder if you have followed those instuctions? I changed the setting to Enable All.
The other possibility is what do you have set for the default version? If it is 2007 and that no longer exists on your machine, then Rh will not be able to proceed. The dropdown should show 2010

Can I change the list of applications in the dictation commands list?
Dictation commands only has the applications present at time of Yosemite installation and doesn't add or delete them. How can I change the list?
There is an Apple info sheet entitled "OS X Yosemite: Use Dictation Commands to tell your Mac what to do." It shows you a lot of existing commands and also how to add your own new commands. :-)
That :-) above was added using the Apple dictate system.

Back up all data before proceeding.

If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.

Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select

ok i get this error when hooking my dvd drive up and tring to use my windows 7 cdNo Bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key. i have tried to use command key i see the cd icon and hit that and i get the error

Well I am truly staggered, I have tried this on two different MacBook Pros, with three different external USB optical drives. Don't know if you googled as I suggested but you would find hundreds of others who have found same thing. The exception is MacBook Air which works with the Apple writer, but I don't know much about this.
Were you doing any of the special workarounds with refedit etc?

I purchased an Iphone 5S in January and have been successfully dictating e-mails and texts using punctuation in my dictation. A few days ago it started spelling out the punctuation in the email or text, what did I do to cause that to happen ? thanks.
Don't expect support here. Nokia does not bother to pay a tech or two to support the people who have bought the 920. Not really a point to these forums.
Anyways, i have huge bt issues as well. Cannot connect or see my jawbone. In truck with pioneer nav system (it is illegal here to use a phone without handsfree in vehicle) it links, but when i make a call or receive a call it shows the phone off the receiver icon so it knows call in progress, but i either get no sound from the caller... at all, or i get a robotic mess i cannot decipher. when i cannot hear anything, people can hear me, but when i hear robotic, people can hear me but with distortion. However, when it reads a text message, the phone voice is fine through the system. Because i have to turn bt off then to use phone, i have to return this handset and just go back to android.
Have also had this drop calls a few times now as reception is probably the worst i have seen in a decade... even drops in downtown core. Battery life poor because i assume its always struggling for a signal. -

It not polite to repost asking fro more help three minutes after initial post.
Recovery mode is Command & R keys after depressing and releasing the Power button for a normal startup.

I have a MacBook Air using Maverick. I have files in the trash I want to recover to their original files. I do not have "Back Up" and "Command + Delete" does not work.
Drag them out of the Trash and put them in their original location. Put Back may work on one file at a time.

You need OSX 10.7.2 or higher in order to access icloud. The mobile me account is now defunct (it closed down more than a year ago).
