Having an insert that runs in sections

Hello. I am not the regular dba that does the stored procs in the db (not my forte). But that person is out for while so I'm left to do the developing and the db work for the project. My question stems around a
transact sql statement that is an insert. But it would be in sections. Too explain, we are looking at having a form that has comboboxes, textboxes, etc for entering information. Also on the form is a tab control. You might see where
this is headed. The form is the one while the tab control is the many. If adding a new record, the tab control many can not be saved until the form record is saved and the PK returned to the form so the tab control many has the form PK to add to
their FK field when saving. Currently, the tab control will have 3 tabs which is 3 tables in the db. All the saving is to be done with the click of one button. Hope this is clear enough explaining this.
First, is saving in pieces like this possible?
If yes, how does begin? Is there something that goes before the INSERT statement? If so, can you provide an example? The INSERT I can do. What is used after the insert to get the PK back to the form? Can an example be provided?
Then the tab control info inserts would be done one after the other, correct? If correct, then thanks.
Thanks for any info.

Typically, you would have a different stored procedure for each table. Consider an example where you create a new customer along with one or more addresses (e.g. home, business, etc). The application would insert the customer row first and use the
returned IDENTITY value for the subsequent inserts into related tables. For example:
CREATE PROC dbo.usp_InsertCustomer
@FirstName varchar(30)
, @LastName varchar(30)
AS
SET NOCOUNT ON;
INSERT INTO dbo.Customer (
FirstName
, LastName
VALUES (
@FirstName
, @LastName
SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS CustomerID;
GO
CREATE PROC dbo.usp_InsertCustomerAddress
@CustomerID int
, @AddressType char(1)
, @AddressLine1 varchar(100)
, @AddressLine2 varchar(100)
, @City varchar(50)
, @Province varchar(50)
, @PostalCode varchar(20)
AS
SET NOCOUNT ON;
INSERT INTO dbo.CustomerAddress (
CustomerID
, AddressType
, AddressLine1
, AddressLine2
, City
, Province
, PostalCode
VALUES (
@CustomerID
, @AddressType
, @AddressLine1
, @AddressLine2
, @City
, @Province
, @PostalCode
RETURN;
GO

Hi..I've had a variant of this problem; my internet was accessible but my devices on wifi could not see the PC on Lan. That meant no iTunes syncing, Airplay from iTunes etc.
Dlink has a strange default setting that isolates Wifi & Wired connections into different subnets.I'm assuming you have DHCP setup on your router and you're PC or MAC has internet access via the same router. Try the following steps to see if this solves the problem for you-
1. Go to Setup -> Local Network and Uncheck the box that says 'Configure the second IP Address and Subnet Mask for LAN' - Hit Apply
2. Go to Wireless -> Wireless Basic and Uncheck 'Enable MultiAP Isolation' - Hit Apply
3. Restart your Router
Let me know if this solves your problem. I've been frustrated by my problem for months & had nearly given up.

• I get a blue line that runs left and right only on the games section, what is that?

I got a blue line that runs left and right & viceversa when I m on the games, can somebody help me? I don't know if that is a virus....I never got one so I don't know...

You do not have a virus. It sounds like you have turned on Switch Control, which can be turned back off in Settings > General > Accessibility. You probably have the Accessibility Shortcut feature turned on, causing a triple-click on the home button to activate or deactivate that feature. You can disable that shortcut in the same Accessibility settings.

• Anyone having trouble with computer running extremely slow with the color wheel continuously spinning.?

Updated with Yosemite and think that's when my problems started with my IMac being very slow. The color wheel keeps popping up and spinning not allowing me to move forward on typing or moving between websites etc. Extremely slow and never had this problem before Yosemite. Any real answers to this out there? I was on the phone with apple support for two and a half hours the other day and it's not made any difference in what the tech had me do to resolve this issue.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/libexec;clear;cd;p=(1266 ' 0.5 0.25 10 1000 15 5120 1000 25000 1 1 0 100 ' 51 25600 4 10 25 5120 102400 1000 25 1 250 40 500 300 85 25 20480 262144 20 2000     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
[Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
Please close this window.
[Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I may not agree with them.

• Updating row after insert that causes trigger

Hi,
I have a table which one of the columns is a sequence number which each time a new row is written I want to automatically write to this sequence column the latest number (which is maintained using an Oracle sequence). I decided to use a trigger which works great:
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER pre_insert_trg before insert ON INCOMING
for each row
BEGIN
SELECT INCOMING_SEQ.NEXTVAL
INTO :new.SEQ
FROM DUAL;
END;
The problem is I have many multi-threaded processes writing to this table and the sequence number gets allocated before the row is committed which means although thread 1 may write first it may commit after thread 2 which has a later sequence number which has the result that sequence number 2 may be shown before 1. The problem is much larger when dealing with many threads with 100's of messages a second and so I would prefer the seq to be added AFTER the insert (once committed), e.g.
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER post_insert_trg after insert ON INCOMING
for each row
BEGIN
SELECT INCOMING_SEQ.NEXTVAL
INTO :new.SEQ
FROM DUAL;
END;
Trying to create this trigger results in a "ORA-04084: cannot change NEW values for this trigger type". Is there a way to update a column for the row which caused the trigger? If I try and remove the :new. I then get errors when inserting about mutating table (which I understand the DML locking but need a way round)
Many thanks,
John

Off hand I think the only way you can do what you say you want to do is to replace the sequence with a code table. A transaction locks the code table, gets the next value from it and unlocks the code table at the end of the transaction. This ensures that the sequence number is always assigned in transaction completion order (or rather the transactions always complete in sequence assigned order). It is basically what java does with its synchronize statement.
The only drawback with this approach is that it completely shags the performance of the sort of multi-threaded environment you've just described. :P
So you need to decide what's more important: having stuff inserted into a queue in sequence order or having a multi-threaded system running quickly. I really don't see how you can acheive what you're attempting in a genuinely concurrent environment; you'll have to introduce an artificial serialism (ie bottleneck) somewhere.
If you do crack this please tell me how: I would be interested in ordering multiple AQs in the fashion you described.
Cheers, APC

• Want to Create a Skin Button that runs JavaScript

Hi Everyone,
I'm using RoboHelp 9.
I found a script (see below) that creates an email and automatically inserts the URL from where the user is sending the email.
I pasted the script directly into the HTML of a page to test it worked – and it does.
However, I now want to add a button to a skin that runs this javascript for each page, and have no idea where to begin to get the button to run correctly. I have been able to create a button on a skin, and can see that there are javascript options but that’s as far as it goes…

Thanks everyone in advance.
Emma

Hi Peter,
Thanks so much for your information - it has worked perfectly!
The only thing that wasn't obvious in the snippet information was where to actually put the script text on the Action tab. At first I pasted the script into the Inline Javascript option in the bottom section. This did nothing so I pasted the script into the OnClick action option. This worked perfectly.
Is it okay to leave the script text in the OnClick option?
Thanks again.
Emma

• Windows not recognizing my time capsle - I just purchased a new computer that runs windows 8 and it doesn't want to recognize the time capsule as an external hard drive (ie doesn't show up under my compter). I've downloaded airport utility...

I just purchased a new computer that runs windows 8 and it doesn't want to recognize the time capsule as an external hard drive (ie doesn't show up under my compter). I've downloaded and run airport utility, but it seems to have a hard time finding the time capsule...maybe one out of 10 times it will find it.
What's more, when I look under network infrastructure under the control panel, it shows my Broadcom ADSL centurylink Router...so I'm wondering if my modem/router combo is overriding the router function on my timecapsule and the time capsule is not being used as a router...
Any help much appreciated!

In this case the TC should be in bridge mode.
Win8 is still problematic. Try using ethernet instead of wireless. I think the drivers are poor still and it is well worth having a try via ethernet if you haven't already.
Otherwise you will need to wait for apple to release bonjour for windows 8 and airport utility.. which is not out yet.
Also make sure the windows is set to home, not work or public.. even turn off the firewall.
Open windows explorer and type the TC ip address into the address bar.. (none of which is perhaps the same.. I gave away windows at vista.. shudder)

• Script: When insert USB, run App.

Here's the deal:
When I plug in a USB drive, and it pops up on the desktop, I want it to automatically run a little application thats in it. This application would be some text document or something that would open up like a notice. I can do that part.
I just need help figuring out What program to use to write this "autorun" script in, and how to go about writing it.
Also, I want this to be able to fire every time I insert that USB key into a mac, of any kind.
Is. This. Possible. Haha. I'll be looking forward to anyone's insight into this.
Macbook Pro 2.3GHz Core Duo, 3GB RAM, 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

It isn't possible to create a script on an USB drive which would run every time the drive is connected to the computer; for security reasons, scripts such as these must be set up through an interface on the computer prior to the drive being connected that requires explicit action on the part of the person using the computer.
The closest possible thing that can be done is to create a picture which includes the message, place the picture on the drive, and set it as the background picture for the folder that opens when the disk is double-clicked.

• Please insert Business Place and Section Code to proceed

Hi
I am getting following customised error "Please insert Business Place and Section Code to proceed" which is mainatined as validation while clearing the vendor through f-44 but when i see the document which has to be clear in which both business place and section code is entered properly. But when doing clreaing the section code field comes as blank where as business place is filled hence the above error is coming.
I am surprised to see that in document both the fields are entered correctly where as in clearing its not showing section code.
Thanks

Hi Gaurav,
I Suppose the validation is build on call up point : 2 (line item) so it will check the bussiness place and section code in every line items and triggers a error, The Previous suggestion of excluding the T.Code f-44 is good as I did the same thing in our project.
Thanks & Regards

The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall or call customer support. I tried redownloading and reinstalling it but it still does the same thing and customer support after waiting on hold for 10 minutes for someone to answer, just sent me here.
How do I get rid of this program???
Also now that this is there, I can't run my CS2. It tells me my settings have changed and I need to reactivate but it won't let me reactivate apparently I guess it's been activated too many times (the first computer I had it on crashed and so I had to reinstall it on this computer I am using now) So now because of whatever is wrong with this CS3 I can never again use my CS2. I don't want to repurchase it, what do I do??

In reference to Lynley Stanley, I too am having the exact problem. I downloaded as for my class of Animation and Visual Effects at the Academy of Art University while waiting for my software to come in the mail from Academic Superstore. I am so frustrated about this that such an issue has caused so much madness. In the process of trying to remove Adobe Photoshop CS3 from my Windows Vista I was searching for info on how to uninstall as I was in a hurry to uninstall the program because my 4th week into class started using the program as students are expected to follow along having their own for assignments. Well, now I'm behind and I don't want to fail because of something that is causing the problem as I'd like to call intentional. In the process of trying to figure a way to uninstall fast as not to fall behind and fail in class I downloaded Perfect Uninstaller but I don't know how it will work. Now in reference of trying to quickly uninstall just to keep up with class, that will not be possible, so now I had to take time to look online knowing I'm falling more and more behind because of this difficult matter I finally found this and hopefully I'll be going somewhere as to have the problem corrected. Alright, now I'm going to try with what has been listed. Thank you for the Info. :)

• User exit that runs at the start of VF01

Hello ABAP gurus,
Forgive me if this question seems stupid but I'm very new to user exits. In fact this is my first time handling one. I need to find the user exit that runs at the start of VF01. In that user exit I need to put some authorization checks and if they're not met the user won't be allowed to continue to run VF01 (VF01 must exit).
When user runs billing (transaction code VF01), I need to insert an authorization object V_LIKP_VST. If they have access to that plant (VSTEL), then they can proceed to run the transaction. If not, they should be rejected or forced to exit VF01. So the trick here is find that user exit that runs at the start of VF01.
Thanks.

Hi Carl
Please see if you can use BADI: BAPI_SD_BILLING_ITEM.
Alternatively, you can try with Routine: USEREXIT_FILL_VBRK_VBRP in include: RV60AFZC to add the authorization check.
Kind Regards

• URL request syntax to redirect to a Flex Desktop application that runs in ADOBE AIR

Hi,
I'm developing a Flex Project that runs on ADOBE AIR. This
project contains two Flex desktop applications that runs in ADOBE
AIR.Now i need to redirect to one Flex desktop application from
another Flex desktop application.Can anyone please tell me how the
URL should look like in the new UrlRequest( ). Thanks in advance
for any help....................

After two days of research and getting localConnection to work, just to realize the application has to be running in order to pass variables to it with localConnection. I realized that I set <allowBroswerInvocation> to true in my air application, but forgot to uncomment it in the descriptor file. Extremely upsetting..... I can now get the airSWF.getApplicationVersion() to return the correct version number, but am still having problems with the airSWF.launchApplication() since it hard to debug, and just doesnt do anything. Below is the code in the Install.log after running the launchApplication() function I am still working on it and will post my progress. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
