URL request syntax to redirect to a Flex Desktop application that runs in ADOBE AIR

Hi,
I'm developing a Flex Project that runs on ADOBE AIR. This
project contains two Flex desktop applications that runs in ADOBE
AIR.Now i need to redirect to one Flex desktop application from
another Flex desktop application.Can anyone please tell me how the
URL should look like in the new UrlRequest( ). Thanks in advance
for any help....................

After two days of research and getting localConnection to work, just to realize the application has to be running in order to pass variables to it with localConnection. I realized that I set <allowBroswerInvocation> to true in my air application, but forgot to uncomment it in the descriptor file. Extremely upsetting..... I can now get the airSWF.getApplicationVersion() to return the correct version number, but am still having problems with the airSWF.launchApplication() since it hard to debug, and just doesnt do anything. Below is the code in the Install.log after running the launchApplication() function I am still working on it and will post my progress. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Embedding swf into Flex Desktop Application size/scale problem.

Hello,
I am embedding an swf animation into my desktop Flex desktop application. I am using SDK 4.6.0. I use the SWFLoader to embed the animation:

When I run the application, the animation is loaded and is working, but when I try to maximize the window there is a size/scale bug that happens. The screen stays half-side maximized (maximized to the top, bottom and stays until the middle of the screen by side).
I've published the SWF for Flash Player 8 and Actionscript 2 just to test and there was no problem with the size/scale, but I need to use Actionscript 3.
Any suggestions?

I found the problem!
There was a line of code that was auto-generated from using a template out of Flash CS6. The line of code that caused it is:
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL;
After deleting it, everything is now working properly.

Audio driver is cashing the flex desktop application

We have a desktop application which is done in flex 4 which is using the audio video capablilites.
In that application we have pretesting module like skype audio video testing. Some audio drivers are crashing the applicatiion (realtek HD driver), this issue is not getting in the flex builder 4 only in the exe the issue is showing. and this issue is not happening frequently

Opening a new URL in an existing browser window from a Java application

I've tried one of the many codes to open a new browser window and it works, but I need something else.
Is there any way to open a new URL on the same window on a Java desktop application? (Changing the URL on the current browser window without opening a new one, I mean).

You can do that by using an add-on such as:
* NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
* New Tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage
Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar.

Is there a way to save data to just one view in Flex Mobile applications?

I am having trouble handling data between views in a Flex Mobile application that I am writing. I know how to pass data from one view to another, but I was wondering if there is a way to save that data to a view, then get more data from another view (in this case it would be the same view that the original data came from) and put that data on the same view without overwriting the original data. I would be glad to post some code if anyone needs to see it.

In Flex, an application can be created from database by
following the steps as follows:
STEP 1. Create a new Flex Project and name it as for example,
“FLEXDB”. Select the
application type as “Web Application (runs in Flash
Player)” and Application server type as
“ASP.Net”.
STEP 2. Go to Data->Create application from database.
Select the project as
FLEXDB”.Create a new Connection to SqlServer 2005 and
specify the database and name that connection
as”TestConn”. Then select any table (for example
DashboardRegion) from the list of tables and click
“Next” button.
STEP 3. Select the Server language as “C# with Web
Services”. Click “Finish”.
STEP 4. Then the following files and folders will be created
under the project “FLEXDB”

• DashboardRegion.mxml -- is a design page.
• DashboardRegionScript.as -- defines web service
object and capture the results and assigns the results to the
corresponding UI Component.

this issue we tried creating “DashboardRegion-app.xml”
file manually, the application is running but, again throwing an
error saying “Unable to load WSDL. If currently online,
please verify the URI and/or format of the WSDL
(../DashBoardRegion.asmx?wsdl)”.

How can I redirect a URL with aliases or redirect?

Hi all,
I have this partially working on my servers, but am not 100% sure I am doing this corerectly.
Basically I have a Web site domain, let's call it product.com
In server admin I have a site set up called www.product.com under port 80 and another under port 443 for my SSL pages.
Here is my problem: If a customer types "product.com" in their favorite Web browser address bar, I would very much like the server to automatically redirect them (if that's the correct term) to "www.product.com" Currently they would end up on http://product.com/index.html when they key in the URL without the "www" I am concerned this is hurting my SEO and Google analytics as well as being an issue internally for PHP pages that are coded to the "www" addresses.
I also have a sign-in page for my clients at the address: http://www.product.com/lib/app/auth/authenticate.php. When a client types "signin.product.com" I want them to go to that long URL for the sign-in page. I have gotten this to work by setting up a new Site in Server Admin > Web > Sites named "signin.product.com" which then has a single entry on the redirect tab with the URL of the signin page above. Not sure if that could have been done on the core Web site (www.product.com) or if that was the way I should do it under Server Admin or if there is an easier way to do it.
Primarily I want to be able to handle redirecting any type of subdomain "xxx.product.com" to another address. The primary one I want to deal with now is the "product.com" redirecting to "www.product.com"..... Should I just set up another Web site in Server Admin with a redirect like I did for "signin.product.com"?
Any advice on doing proper redirection appreciated.

There are so many ways you could do this. You need to pick what's right for you.
Some of the options are available through the GUI. Many more are available once you get under the hood and drive Apache directly. Your skill and comfort level will undoubtedly influence which path you take.
At the first level, Apache groups sites together by the hostname used to access the site.
If you want 'www.product.com' to go to the same place as product.com you could create one site with an alias, so that Apache uses the same 'site' configuration for both hostnames.
If you want the two hostnames to do different things then you could create two sites - in this case 'www.product.com' has the full, normal site and 'product.com' has a redirect to the equivalent page on 'www.product.com'.
Within www.product.com you can also setup selective redirects to the HTTPS site. This will ensure that things like the login form are accessed securely. In this way your HTTPS site is another 'site' in Apache with the SSL configuration.
One caveat in your post is the use of 'signin.company.com'. You don't describe your network, but if you have only 1 public IP address then this is going to be an issue since you cannot easily run multiple SSL sites on a single IP address - you'll need a different public IP address for each SSL site. This is because the SSL negotiation occurs before Apache knows what site the request is for, and therefore it doesn't know which SSL certificate to use for the connection.
So, in general, you'll create one site for each variation in your web setup - one for 'www.product.com/port 80', one for 'www.product.com/port 443', one for 'product.com/80' (which redirects to 'www.product.com'), and so on.

Passing URL variable on login redirect

I first want to say thank you for all the great help I have received on these forums over the past couple months - it has been very helpful and saved me countless days.
Saying that, I do have another problem. I would like to pass a URL variable to the success redirect page when users login. I want to have a recordset on the login page that retrieves an issueid for the most current article and then passes it on the URL to the page that is loaded when a user successfully logins. I have tried adding the recordset to the login page and then changing the URL for the successful redirect on the tNG_config.inc.php file to:
$tNG_login_config_redirect_success["5"] = 'dashboard_issue.php?issueid=' . $currentIssueId . '';
but it isn't working. I have a tried as many variations of that syntax as I could think of or find searching online but still no luck. There might be a much easier way to do this but the way the dashboard_issue page is set up is that it is looking for the issueid in the url. The benefit being that the same page can be used for any issue that the user wants to change to once he is logged in.
I hope this is making some sense. If not please let me know.

The most current issue is actually just the one that is closest to today's date in the future. Users are free to add as many issues as they want in the past and future so I really can't go by issueid to sort since it might come in any order. Right now I have the most current issue found with this query:

I will try to explain the problem a little more. This works great for what I need to do for this page as soon as they log in since it doesn't even look at the URL at all. If a user wants to go to a different issue I display a different page (which is this page just renamed) where the recordset looks at the URL issueid variable instead of the most recent issue recordset. The problem with this setup is that it is hard to maintain 2 pages all the time and would be great if I can just have one page to handle everything.
Is it possible to do something like this?:
IF issueid url variable EXISTS THEN use recordset1
IF issueid url variable DOES NOT EXISTS use recordset2
with recordset1 being the one that grabs the most current issue and recordset2 being the one that pulls the issue information based on the url issueid.

Open url request from PopUpManager

Hi,
I have a function which opens a new browser window with the result of a URL request (an image). I wonder if I can do the same but with a window "embedded" in the flash application.
I saw there is a class called PopUpManager. I understood that I have to create a new component ("popup") with the data for the new window. The problem is that I don't know how to pass the result of the URL request to that popup component.
Is it possible at all? Is there any other alternative?

Yep cool with the PopUpManager.centrePopUp.
As for saving an image. You can save graphics from Flex by specifiying a rectangular region you want to save. You can save the selected region out as a jpg or a png using the encoders. In the example below I have saved out an image.

Note you need to be compiling for Flash PLayer 10 in your Flex compiler settings as that allow you to read and write local files.

You can't redirect to a new window from the server end
you have to make the decision at the client when you
click the link. All a web server does is receives a

Hi,
how can I set the "Output folder" and "Output folder URL" in Flasbuilder 4b1?
In Flexbuilder 3 I can do this under Project Properties/"Flex Build Path"
Under "Flex Build Path" in F4b1 I can see the settings, but they are not editable.
A message says "The output folder settings for server projects are on the Flex Server Property Page" but under "Flex Server" there is nothing (yet) I can change/set?!
Is there a workaround?

Yes I'm using Flash Builder b1, build 235740. But your settings panel looks different to mine (see attached).
Just a thought. When you created the Flex project, did you choose a server technology at that point already? I just remember from Flex Builder 3 that if you didn't choose a server technology when you created the Flex project then it was a pain in the ** to add it later. It involved editing the .flexProperties file manually if I remember correctly.

URL Request Strings

I have found information through research about the URL structure for 'passing information between pages' using the p?f=110:100:etc etc.
We currently employ Apex to provide an insurance quotation engine for a third party and rely on a link on their pages to direct customers to our application.
My question is...
Is it possible to include (in a similar manner to say php) request variables - the client requires a 'customer friendly URL' i.e. www.myinsurance.com/apex/travel.insurance as opposed to www.myinsurance/apex/p?f=100:1:::::::::::::::::
I assume it is not possible to link to an Apex app using www.myinsurance.com/apex/travel.insurance?referrer=STAFFMEMBER
Please could you explain if it is possible to pass values in a 'customer friendly' URL to an apex application and if so how (or if not prepared to tell me, point me in the right direction of some reference material).

Hi John,
the Apache module mod_rewrite is the way to go. They can use the URL format they want to have and as soon this URL request goes to your Apache, it will be "translated" to the format APEX requires.
