Having problems regarding SIM error in Canada.

I'm sure there are a plethora of similar topics posted already, but I am short for time and figured I'd add a heap to the clutter of these forums.
My brother purchased an iPhone via the internet recently and when it arrived, he synced his music and avoided the activation and went on his way. Today, he accepted the firmware update and according to him, this is what the device reads:
"Incorrect SIM. Insert an unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone"
Now I of course realize that the iPhone from the US is not manufactured for Canadian usage, but what he had intended was to use the device as one would an iPod touch, and simply wait until Rogers allowed usage of the iPhone in Canada.
Is there anyway to reverse this and use the device as an Mp3 player and tool for wireless internet access?

Well I understand your delima, you can not call Apple and ask for help since your iPhone's warranty is null and void...
If he knew the whole unlocking process he would of known not to accept this update or any future update as it may and most likely turned your phone into a brick. Time to buy a iPod touch till Canada gets a iPhone.
There are ways to reverse this, search google... But you are still running a 30% chance of totally bricking your iPhone, right now you can sit on it and wait till Canada gets the iPhone and most likely just drop a Valid Sim Card in it. If you keep playing with the phones baseband you EASILY could destroy your phone.

Open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/). Select your Mac OS X startup volume in the column on the left of the Disk Utility window, then click the First Aid tab. Click the Repair Disk Permissions

Thank you guig2! Followed your bleepingcomputer.com link above and found the problem was my permissions on C:\Users\Bill\AppData\Local/Temp. It was not "Full Control" for my User or Administrator. Updated the two lines to permit full control for folder, subfolder and files. Ran perfect.

After installing firefox 4.0 I've been having problems with rundll error on startup. Norton scan is finding a high risk malware.

Last week I installed firefox 4.0 beta & the next time the computer was restarted a rundll error window appeared that said windows cannot locate file. This file showed up in the startup programs. When norton finds this which is every 1 or 2 days it removes it after a restart but the error & malware comes back. I went back to firefox 3.6 but still have this problem. Can you help?

It seems unusual that Norton should block and remove firefox updates. I'm a guy who has not a single idea about forms or form compilation. This is because I don't work with forms. The only reason that I am relaterd to forms is that i have a script that converts form files into a browsable web page (some thing like javadocs) which is being used by many people.
my script converts a form file into txt file using f60genm and then the resultant txt file is converted to fmt file using f60genm. I am running my script from a RHEL server where a display variable is set.
It was working fine all this while. But now i get error messages as this

Is it happening with all the PDF' or any specific one?
Could you please share the error message so that we can replicate at our end ?
Try repairing reader once and see if that fixes the issue.
Launch Reader>Navigate to Help>Repair Adobe Reader Installation

You cannot active a phone if it does not have a SIM card in it. Period. End of discussion.
If you get this error and it has a SIM card in the phone then either the SIM card is defective or the phone is defective. Get a new SIM card and try again. If the problem occurs with the new SIM card the phone needs to be repaired.

Sorry for the late reply. My email firewall has become a little over zealous & sent a lot of my emails straight to my junk email folder, so I have only just now discovered your reply in my junk mail folder.
The only "don't open files exceeding xxx megabytes" instruction I can find in my Prefs, is in the Bridge Prefs for Thumbnails, & mine is set at 1000mb. The biggest files I handle are bigger than 200mb so I should be able to open a few, not just one.
However, this doesn't explain why I can open a psd format file of 180mb, close it, but then can't open a RAW format file of only 26mb immediately after.
I can open the RAW file only if I restart my computer - very annoying!
However, thanks for the advice about the video card & memory.
So, I'm still stuck as to what the issue is.

"Failed to Continue Activity" Cocoa Error 4609. Handoff is working for phone calls and text messages. By email just crashes each time. It was also doing it under 8.0.2. My iPhone and iPad handle this fine. It's only the MacBook to the iPhone that fails, and only on email.

Was it purchased from an official Apple Store, not a reseller? Only Apple Stores sell official factory unlocked phones. The others sell hacked to unlock phones, and the unlocking is unstable.
Try these steps, as needed:
1. Reset phone - press both home and on/off buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
3. Replace SIM card (and reset network settings again)
4. Restore Phone in iTunes using a backup
5. Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup
