Having some big problems

Earlier this week, after restarting my computer, it wouldn't boot back up again. I got to the startup chime, the grey Apple logo, and the spinning wheel, but after that it just sits there, until something starts to get really loud in the computer (it sounds like the fan spinning really fast, but I don't know enough to tell for sure). I ran DiskWarrior, which cleared up the problem, and I was able to log back in. Then last night in the middle of the night, I wake up to my computer making that same really loud sound. The monitors are off, and nothing I can do will wake the computer up. So I shut it off and went back to bed. When I tried it this morning, I logged in fine (except it held on the Apple logo/spinning wheel longer than usual.
If there's anybody who can help diagnose the problem, I'd be grateful.

Unfortunately, I can't recall the problem that DW reported. I opted not to save the report. But right now I am running DU, though I could only run Repair Disk Permissions. Repair Disk was grayed out. Here's a screenshot of the window if it helps: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/9624/picture1rs0.png
Although in that picture, Verify/Repair Disk would be grayed out anyway since I'm in the middle of the permission repair.

    Finally I discover what were happening to me...
    When you remove oracle XE, the uninstall system "forget" to delete the route of the bin directory in the PATH variable

I will edit, save, and then realize once i've sent it to myself to test the color is WAY off. This only happens in photoshop. I've read some forums and have tried different things, but it seems to be making it worse. PLEASE HELP! Even viewing the saved image on the mac's pic viewer is way off once i've edited in photoshop. I am having to adjust all my colors by emailing myself to test. Its just getting ridiculous.

    Check the color space in camera raw, the options are in the link at the bottom of the dialog box. Then when saving make sure you save it to the srgb color space when sending to others. Not all programs understand color space and or will default to srgb. That won't necessarily mean it will be accurate, but it will put it in the ballpark. Using save for web will use the srgb color space.

    What program did you use to fix the internal hard drive? What repairs did it report making? More crucially, if repairs were reported, did you re-run the utility until it reported no problems found? It's possible for one set of problems with a drive to mask others.
    If you have about 5GB or so free space on the internal hard drive, you can use your OS X Install disc to perform an Archive and Install to recover from the failed Software Update. When the computer restarts, download and run the OS X Update Combo 10.4.11 (Universal). When the Mac restarts after that, run Software Update. During all this, make sure nothing interrupts or shuts down the Mac! Note that the first start after each of these updates will take significantly longer than subsequent starts, so be very patient.
    How did you back up your internal drive to the external one? Did you just drag things over in the Finder, or did you use a utility such as SuperDuper! or CarbonCopyCloner? Does the external HD show up as a bootable volume in System Preferences > Startup Disk, or using Startup Manager?

    I have been reading everything I can find on SSI's, and have

    however, now, I'm having issues after uploading the files to my

    Knowledgebase, step number 4 says to…

    Well, I tried that, but the code just looks exactly as it
    does in the code viewing pane. No RED characters anywhere! So I
    just deleted all the <html>, <head>, and <body>
    tags and saved the file.
    Now, when I insert the SSI into a new html file (which I
    saved as .shtml because that’s what my web hosting provider
    requires) everything looks great on my local system, but when I
    upload the files to my server and try to test the page with the SSI
    inserted into it, I get the following error message:

    I'm running MS Office 2011 on Lion and it runs just fine.  No "Full Screen", but it runs just fine.  There may have been an update to install (I know there was an iWork one anyway), but even before I installed any updates Office '11 worked just fine.

  • Dragon Writer MS-8348B having some bad problems.

    I actually don't have the 8348B, I have a Verbatim but it's the same rebaged drive(BenQ 4816p) and I'm having alot of problems, mostly the same problems that other people are having.  The drive initially would recognize some cheap media at 40x MAX but when I tried to write at that speed the drive makes a loud buzzing noise(like really fast clicking), and when it was done writing I look at the media and only see sporatic written dat on it, it's skipping all over the place.  When I tried to write at a slower speed(16x) it either writes really slowly (slowing down to 1x or 2x) or it just burns coasters.  I have the A.UZ driver, should I expect this to happen continuously or is it just my media that's bad?

    I had the exact same thing, I returned it back to the store I bought it from and I'm supposed to get a new one in three weeks.
    P.S. Has this drive done it since you bought it or did this just start recently?

  • NEED HELP HAVING SOME SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH X-FI PLATI

    My sound card is only about 2-3 weeks old and was running fine uptill about a few days ago then it started having some problems the first was it wouldn't play audio in windows media player movie or music, it worked fine using other programs to play movies or music. Another problem I'm gettin is that the volume will be much lower than it should and this doesn't matter what program I use this does go away sometimes although I still dont know what causes it. I'm also getting intermittent sound problems in BF2 like not hearing sound when I switch to rear view which didn't happen before. I've tried trouble shooting it myself but to no avail. I tried installing it on my other hard dri've which is clean but even though I did a full installation it won't even recognize the card and says there is a prolem with the drivers. I can't understand why my sound card won't work on my second hard dri've and why I am having problems with it on my first. If anyone could help me with this problem it would be greatly appreciated. By the way I have a DFI LanParty NF4 Sli-DR, AMD Atholon 64 3000+, XFX 6800GS PCI-Express 256MB, 2GB OCZ Gold Dual Channel DDR 400,Ultra 500watt PSU, Logitech Z-5500 5. Speakers. My first hard dri've is a Western Digital Caviar SE6 SATA 2 and my second hard dri've is a Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 SATA 2, they are both 250GB and are seperate they aren't connected to my motherboard or even on at the same time.Message Edited by RogueChaos on 05-3-2006 05:05 PM

  • I just bought a new MacBook Pro.  I managed to transfer everything to the new laptop.  BUT I'm having some real problems--e.g., wg from my older one to the new one.  Both use the same latest version of Snow Leopard.  My new laptop has the newer track pad.

    My new one has the newest trackpad, the old one, no.
    I'm have big problems using Text Edit on the new laptop--the curser does not go where I want it to go for editing, I cannot get the text to be a clear or as large
    as with the older Laptop.  Similarly, I cannot find a way to enlarge the menu bar.  But the text edit is my biggest problem right now.  I have reviewed all the preferences, particularly those in Universal Access, to no avail.
    I finally gave up, used dropbox to send the text edit document to my old laptop, and continued with ease.  But this is not the way it should work.  I bought the
    new laptop because the old one is showing signs of age.....
    Is there something wrong with Text Edit while using the new trackpad?

    The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
    In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
    If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them. 
    (I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

    Ive been having a problem with my Imac 10.4. I believe that when my computer was doing the last update someone manually shut it down since then i havent been able to get into my hardrive to start up my computer. I brought it into the apple store the guy at the genius bar told me that he couldnt locate my hard drive and i would have to get a new one. I didnt purchase the new one I went home to see if i can resolve it on my own. I went out and bought a external hard drive and bought a program to fix the hard drive. So now the hard drive pops up on my computer and im able to get into it and i backed up most of my information on to the new hard drive. If now that i can see the hard drive is there any way to repair it so i can start using my computer normally again? Please help

    In utilities there's disk utility, find your HD, the one you want repaired and run the repair permissions program.

    What's left to do? Does the permissions tell you your HD is OK? Be more specific in what you want to do, I don't understand Shelomo. Post what it is you want done. Because there are many 3rd part applications that may solve your problem.

    I ran repair disk first and it said that there was an underlining error, and i did that before i ran permissions. Will it work after the permissions is finished running?

    Hi, ok so it finished running the reapir permissions and that came out ok, when I ran repair disk we got errors and the errors said ivalid record count, volume check failed, the underlying task reported failure on exit, 1 volume could not be repaired because of an error. Do you have any idea what I can try now. I really dont want to have to get a new hard drive put into my computer. Thank you

  • Having some skype problems

    i am like having skepe saying on the top bar not responing at times but i find nothing about it in the event viewer. Also I am not sure if my friends messages are showing up for me or if mine are for them. it was doing fine a few weeks ago but now it seems like its having problems. i am not sure if they are send the messages or if there is a problem going on.
    It seems IE and adobe flash is for it is up to date .

    Try to reset all Skype settings.
    Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
    Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
    N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

    I do use Address book and this has happened to me as well!!  I synched my iphone 3 and poof - some of the iphone names are gone in both address books!  The IPHONE  category is the only one affected - all the other mobile numbers are fine! You would think that being that it's an iPhone - this would be covered? 
    Update - just found another missing number - a custom VM setting is just a number in my settings - found the names on my iPad - which I haven't synched.
    Awhile back, I synched and the **** things deleted all my contacts on my computer in the address book and on my phone!  Same thing, I hadn't done the iPad, and used an old backup file to restore some of the contacts, but had to go through them one by one and check with the iPad each one.  WHAT A PAIN THIS IS AND IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN!
    BETWEEN THE NEW IOS 7 WHICH IS GARBAGE AND CAUSING VERTIGO IN ME AND ALL THESE PROBLEMS, I'M READY TO DUMP THE IPHONE.  I ABSOLUTELY HATE IOS 7 AND ALL THESE ISSUES!  BTW, I DO NOT USE THE MOBILE ME CLOUD BECAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS THAT CAUSED - DOUBLE & TRIPLE ENTRIES IN MY CONTACTS FILES EVERY TIME I SYNCHED!  AGAIN, I HAD TO MANUALLY GO THROUGH IT!  WHAT GARBAGE, SO I TURNED IT OFF.

  • I am having a big problem with entering search terms in Google

    Here is the problem. I enter several search terms and do a search. So far, so good.
    After I am finished clicking on one or more links I return to the Google search page to do a new search.
    Since most of the words are the same, except the last one or two, I backspace over the old words and start entering the new ones.
    Then very strange things happen much of the time.
    1. It may restore the old words (the ones I already backspaced over and erased) and put my new words behind the old ones.
    2. It may just restore the old words, that had been backspaced over, completely removing the new words I had just typed in.
    Any ideas why this keeps happening? Is it Google or Firefox causing the problem?
    It seems very strange that words that had been backspaced over (erased) magically reappear as if I hadn't removed them.

    Does the account work on other devices?
    DId it ever work on an iOS device?
    Did yo Google for the setting to use?
    DId you delete the account on the iPod and tried again?
