Having trouble on Solaris 9 getting networking

I just installed and I cant get networking up and running. I need to simply have the box use dhcp to get its networking info.
I've learned that i can create a dhcp.<interface name> but I dont know what the interface name is. How do you find that out? I've seen on newsgroups some people use le0, others hme0, etc, but none of these seem to work with me if i do a ifconfig. ifconfig just says the interfaces dont work.
When I do ifconfig -a it only shows lo0 and no other interfaces, does that mean that it doesn't even see my ethernet card?
Seems like it should be pretty easy to set up networking, I must be missing something simple.

OK, the easiest way to make sure the card is recognized is to press the ESC key during the boot process and start the DCA. When it scans the bus it will list the devices. If it lists your card as "ethernet controller" then you do not have the driver available. If you know what the card is post the name and I'll help you track down the driver. If it does list the card - "Intel Pro 10/100" - the driver is available. Continue the boot process. Then run sys-unconfig. It will walk you thru the card settings and then automatically create the necessary files. Once you select DHCP for the card, the rest is gravy! When the boot options screen appears enter b -r. When the system comes up it will be ready to go...verify with ifconfig -a.

Okay, first you will need to setup time machine to backup your system to the new hard drive. Just open time machine and turn it on, then select your new hard drive and time machine will start the backup in a few minutes.

Having trouble printing over a home network to a Canon S9000 from iMac

Hello there,
I recently bought a iMac and am having trouble printing to my Canon S9000 over my home network. If I hook up the printer to the iMac I can print to it, but the PC that is also hooked up to the network can't. If the printer is hooked up to the PC, the PC can print to it, but the iMac can not.
I downloaded the S9000 driver from Canon and installed it on the iMac. Then brought up the printer in system preferences. I found my printer OK, but I can't seem to find the S9000 driver in the list.
When the printer is hooked up to the PC and I try to print to it from the iMac this is the error I get: "Error Number : 311 Printer is in use or an error has occurred. If an error has occurred, eliminate the cause of the error."

Your problem is due to the way that Canon wrote the drivers for that printer. It can be shared to Windows machines if it is on a Windows machine, or to Macs if it is on a Mac. It can't be shared cross-platform. It is not supported by GutenPrint, so there is no CUPS system driver available; if there was, you could put it on the Windows machine and share it, and use the CUPS driver to print on your Mac.
I'm sorry, but that printer will not ever be able to be shared cross-platform unless and until Canon rewrites the drivers. I'd not recommend holding your breath while waiting.
The best solution to cross-platform printing is to get a network printer. Many vendors, including Brother, Canon, Epson, and HP, make them, some of them at fairly low (under $100) prices.

Having trouble connecting Wireless Router to Network

Hey everyone, I ordered two Encore ENHWI-2AN3 wireless routers and am having trouble configuring the one I want to use as the wireless access point (other one will be used as a repeater.)

I disabled DHCP, and set a new IP on the local network. I disabled WiFi on the verizon router as well. When I run an ethernet cable between the two using LAN ports, and try to use WiFi I get a signal, but it doesn't go load.
I'm assuming I need to tweak something in the "internet" section of the Encore router, the main options are Dynamic or Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP.
To clarify, I am not looking to replace the Verizon router, only use the Encore router for Wifi

I am basically having trouble with my wireless connection. I know I have a functioning connection because my girlfriend is able to connect and surf just fine. Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Having trouble logging onto a WPA network.

Hello all!
After surfing for a couple of hours through the forums, I decided to make this post...
I have been having trouble logging on to my work WiFi. I use an Actiontec GT701-WG DSL modem, with a WPA network. I have tried to reset my Network Settings, but did not help. The message I get every time is, "Cannot log onto (network name)".
Any ideas?

Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds.
On your iPad use Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings

Having trouble syncing iPad to get movies onto it.....any ideas?

For some reason I am having trouble syncing movies onto my iPad. They are in my iTunes library, I check the box hit apply/sync then nothing.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

It appears that when I sync it seems the sync is syncing the computer with the iPad not iPad with computer.
I have delegated all movies on iPad when I check some movies on iTunes it adds the purple bar at the bottom and availability of space decreases accordingly. When I hir apply/sync it goes through the process then when finishes step four the purple bar at the bottom goes and available space increases again.

Hi guys. I just switched to a new modem through my ISP (Rogers) that has a built in router and a much faster connection. (Previously, this 3510 printer was working just fine over my network with a modem and a router that was separate.) My computer is hooked into the internet via a direct cable and everyone else in the household connects via wireless, which has been set up and works well. For some reason though, my 3510 refuses to play nice with the modem and connect to the network. I've tried plugging it in via usb cable, then going into the settings and clicking on the "convert a usb connected printer to wireless" option. I hit "yes, access the computer or router", then next, it finds my wireless network with no trouble and I type in the required password and "next" - it then takes a while to go through it's "setting up printer on network" .... and then after a while, I get a "MAC address filtering may be enabled on your wireless router" error. There IS no MAC filtering. I have "allow all" set on the router. This shouldn't be an issue. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it just a thing with the newer modem/router combos and these older HP printers? I tried to update the driver, but your website doesn't seem to be letting folks do that at the moment (some error you're fixing, it says?). If you have any suggestions on how I could get past this problem, I'd really appreciate it. It's driving me NUTS. Thanks! All the best, -- Jodi

I tried to update i-Tunes and having failed a couple of times, un installed it. On trying to re-install it will not complete. I keep getting a message 'apple mobile device failed to start, verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services'.

Help! Having Trouble Installing Solaris 10 on a SPARC machine

I recently found a new job, and one of the requirements is I learn Solaris 10. I have successfully loaded the most recent x86 version on a laptop, but.....
My workplace has a sun blade 2500 (several actually) and I am trying to load the newest Solaris 10 SPARC version that I just downloaded. I downloaded it on my PC (Windows vista, yech), unpacked the ISO using winzip, and burned the files to a DVD. When I put that newly burned DVD into the sunblade 2500, I press stop-a, then type "boot cdrom", and after the reboot, I get a message saying
Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open disk label package
Can't open boot device
{0} ok
So for some reason my burned DVD is giving me a "bad magic number" error - and its not just one machine, all the machines I tried to load it on said the same thing.
Fortunately, a co-worker that recently left the company had Solaris 10 burned to a set of CDs (5 plus the language CD) and that installed well (albeit version 08/07 of Solaris 10).
So I am at the point where I can probably figure out how to upgrade the machine, but it bothers me that I couldnt successfully download the ISO from sun, unpack the contents, burn said contents to a DVD (using Windows), then take that DVD and install SPARC Solaris 10 on a sun blade 2500. I know that at some point I wont have the crutch of those CDs. Does anyone know what I was doing wrong? Is there a certain way you have to burn the DVD, or use a certain package to unpack the ISO for the SPARC version?

Since the network obviously doesn't belong to you, we're not going to be able to suggest much you can do to fix it. As for getting wifi in your home, do you not already have Internet access? Wireless routers are cheap if you already have wired Internet. If you don't, the "best" provider may not be a relevant question. You probably have 2, maybe 3 choices. Your cable company, your phone company and probably one other choice that is actually running piggyback on either the cable or phone company. If you're in a high rise, the building may have their own service you can buy into.

Having trouble connecting to my wireless network

Hi everyone, my iPad gen 3 can not connect to my wireless network. I have to unplug my router, and repower for it to connect. Even going into settings on the iPad, and putting in the password for the wireless connection, the iPad gives me an error message that the password is incorrect. I was thinking of updating to a new router. My current router is about 3 years old. I am also running Network Magic from Cisco. Can anyone give me any ideas for a solution to this problem?
