Hda-intel issues

After some hours of use, this always happens:
hda_intel: azx_get_response timeout, switching to polling mode: last cmd=0x018f000a
hda_intel: azx_get_response timeout, switching to single_cmd mode: last cmd=0x018f000a
and then the headphone jack won't mute the speakers when I plug it in, so I always have to reload the module to get it working again, I've tried everything, compiling old and new alsa, probe_mask=1 and 8, model=hp/hp-3stack and many more, and NOTHING works, I can't find anything useful on the internet about it, so does anybody have any idea?, it's the only thing that bothers me on linux, my laptop is a hp pavilion dv6000, but I haven't tried it in another linux distro, only arch.
Please help

no ideas?
need more info?
should I post this question in another section?
It's related to Kernel, right?
thanks

  • Snd-hda-intel issues

I have had problems with sound since I installed linux on this laptop (hp nx6325, ATI SB450 HDA Audio). I was always able to get it working to some point, but...
After turning on my laptop everything works fine, even the microphone, and the speakers mute when I plug in headphones. But after a while my mic stops working, as though it was blocked by something, or it didn't exist. And the speakers won't unmute when I plug out the headphones, or if they weren't plugged in before the speakers won't mute. weird...
I suspect it's a driver bug, and probably I can't do anything about it. I tried almost every possible solution i could find on the net, nothing worked (changing the modul=... etc.), and it seems nobody has exactly these issues.
I'm just curious if there is a workaround, so i won't have to restart my computer every time I want to use skype or unmute the speakers.

My speakers don't mute when I plug headphones in. My solution is to turn the 'front' volume down to zero through alsamixer in the terminal. It doesn't trigger 'mute' but has the same effect. Don't know if this helps but might be worth a go?

  • [CLOSED] snd-hda-Intel model mono/stereo and alsamixer issues

DROPPED: I just installed the Windows disc that came with the laptop and the official drivers, while they work better (a 6 channel wav plays fine in the speakers, linux only plays 2 of them) the most important issues like mono output only in the headphones jack is repeated. It seems the hardware problem. I don't know how I break it, but I did.
When I installed Arch linux about this laptop about two years ago everything was working OK. "aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Right.wav" (and left) played in the corresponding speakers and headphones. "alsamixer" used to have two volume control bars per control, for left and right.
I can't pinpoint the moment but sometime in the last few months everything is playing as mono. Now alsamixer shows only one volume bar per control and "Master" can only to be (un)muted as mono. I can still mute the "Speaker" control individually using '<' and '>'. The "Headphone" volume control is ignored, neither volume nor mute work. And the strangest thing: when I mute the left Speaker it also mutes the headphones.
I never did any alsa configuration and so I'm assuming the model auto detection is broken. I tried a few model= options without luck. The problem is the laptop is brandless (pseudo-olivetti 750). Perhaps with some luck someone can help me identify which model should I use.
    Physical Description:
The laptop has to on-board speakers and two jacks on the front, one labeled with a Microhone (slash) two things I cannot recognize and  the other labeled SPDIF OUT (slash) Headphones. (I tried the only model described as 2-jack in the wiki guide without luck).

Thanks for any help, I tried most of the models listed as ALC883 (and some others) without luck, is there any other option that could cause this issues?

I assume the combination Vendor Id: 0x10ec0883 + Subsystem Id: 0x1584907e is what I should be looking for right?  Google gave me three resuts from alsa project's DB: http://www.google.com/search?q=0x10ec08 … e&filter=0 resulting in two more models to try:
model=laptop (I'm almost certain I tried this already)
    model=lenovo
I also didn't knew about alsa-info.sh so I downloaded, ran it and got this  http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=9f7e7 … bf5c3ad9ea including:
    !!DMI Information
    Manufacturer: Standard
    Product Name: L50IIX
L50IIX seems to be a board made by Uniwill and used by various companies which adds even more possible models:
    model=uniwill
    model=uniwill-m31
    model=fujitsu
    model=lifebook
    model=fujitsu-pi2515
    model=fujitsu-xa3530
It seems I have a lot of testing to do later, I will report back the results and hopefully will provide a solution for any lost soul who comes across this post in the future.  Thank you.

  • Sound issues after kernel update to 3.4.2 HDA Intel SigmaTel STAC9200

    Hi all,
after upgrading from kernel 3.3.8.-1 to 3.4.2.-2 my soundcard isn't working properly.
When I'm trying to chance the volume using amixer, the output is the following (sound volume does *not* change)
    $amixer set Master 2dB+ unmute
    Simple mixer control 'Master',0
    Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum
    Playback channels: Mono
    Mono: Playback [on]
With 3.3.8 the output looks quite different (while the volume changes like it should be)
$ amixer set Master 2dB+ unmute
    Simple mixer control 'Master',0
    Capabilities: pvolume pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
    Limits: Playback 0 - 31
    Mono:
    Front Left: Playback 9 [29%] [-33.00dB] [on]
    Front Right: Playback 9 [29%] [-33.00dB] [on]
It seems to be with both kernels the same modules are loaded.

yes, the master volume bar in alsamixer is still present but the volume level is 0 and its not possible to change this. And as you said muting the master channel does not mute actual sound playback.
Switching back to linux 3.3.8 and all works fine.
I'm trying to specify the model in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf listed here under Stac9200
    http://kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sou … Models.txt
    So far I have tried:
    #options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m25
    #options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m6
    #options snd-hda-intel model=3stack
    #options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m21
    options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m26
No changes with the first 4. With modell=dell-m26, alsamixer shows only the PCM channel.
By the way, I'm using the Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop.

  • [SOLVED] ALSA no sound interrnal speaker with HDA Intel PCH

Hi, i have no sound from the internal speaker of my laptop but the headphones work.
    configuration : http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=68a08 … 6d1a1242ae
i have tried to install the driver from realtek and to add the option "model=auto", "model=generic", "model=3stack" to the snd-hda-intel" module without success.
the command "aplay -vv -D hw:0,0  /usr/share/sounds/alsa/test.wav" plays a sound only through the headphones.
have you any idea to help me ?
    thanks

This seems pretty similar to my issue... No sound from my from headphone output at all... I do get sound from the rear output BUT it stops when I plug in the front one!
Ran the monitor option on the python script and see the following...

  • Snd-hda-intel doesn't work on 2.6.24

    Hi,
I have troubles with the sound card on a fresh Arch install.
I have a Asus P5B-Plus Mainboard, which has an ADI 1988 Soundchip. Sound works great in other distributions like opensuse 10.3 (kernel 2.6.22), so perhaps it is an issue with the new 2.6.24 kernel?
I tried to configure the card with alsaconf, no luck. I also tried to pass the different models with "options snd-hda-intel model=SOMETHING_HERE" in /etc/modprobe.conf, it doesn't work.
The really strange thing is that it works perfectly in opensuse 10.3 which has a much older kernel.
    Can anyone please help me?

    I just dont understand this...
maybe you upgraded your kernel. what's your kernel version?
    $`uname -a`
I found a guide on configuring sound card.
    http://forum.ubuntu.org.cn/viewtopic.ph … 830b7d6e9d
    I translated it into english.
Actually, the whole process is very simple.
    0. cat /proc/asound/version to get your alsa version
    1. run alsamixer to get the chip id on second line of output
    2. open the alsa guide on /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound/alsa/ALSA-Configuration.txt. if you don't have the kernel source, you know where to get it.
    or just open http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Document … ration.txt.
Search you chip id in this file. then modify snd-hda-intel option in /etc/modprobe.conf according to the documentation.
    3. visit http://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/main/i … -hda-intel and do exactly it tells.
    4. reboot
    That's all.

Since last kernel upgrade (2.6.38.4-1) I have no sound.  Running alsaconf seems to go well, but still no sound.
modprobe snd-hda-intel gives the error "Unknown symbol in a module, or unknown parameter.
dmesg | grep hda  tells (7 times) "snd_hda_codec: Unknown symbol kstrtoull  (err 0)
Is this just my system, or are we eagerly awaiting further information, or kernel26 2.6.38.4-2?

Before making reports, I want to be sure that there is a real error - not just a glitch in just my system. If noone else has the problem, even the most detailed bug report would probably be futile.
if downgrading to .38.3 solves the issue then there's no doubt about the problem coming from patches from .38.4. Also, it is very possible that only a few machines would be affected by this so don't hesitate to report a bug even if you're the only one. Some users may not use .38.4 yet and will be hit by this bug later when they'll upgrade their distros.

  • The Audio playback device HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog) doesn't work.

Every time I login to KDE through KDM, the notification gives me this message: "The Audio playback device HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog) doesn't work. Falling back to default"
Everytime I try to play an audio file, the notification gives me the same message.
But everything else such as system sound, online video work.
What can I do to make it work?
    thank you for your help

I have the same problem under the same conditions the original poster described. However, under System Settings -> Multimedia -> Device Preference I don't have default as device listed. The devices I can pick are:
    -Esound (ESD)
    -HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog)
-HDA Intel, NVIDIA HDMI (HDMI Audio Output)
    -Jack Audio COnnection Kit.
I can also pick HDA Intel (NVIDIA HDMI) when I check  'Show advanced devices'
When I use Esound I have sound for a while, until after a random time it falls back to the underlying device, which makes sound disappear. When I use HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog), it falls back immediately on logging in and the other choices do never fall back, but when I use them, I have no sound at all. After I loose sound when Esound falls back to another device, sometimes writing sudo /etc/rc.d/alsa restart gives sound back, but mostly I need to relog/restart the X-Server to get sound back.
Is my issue related to the original poster his problem? And how can I fix it?

"volume: can't open /dev/mixer " is for the users who use OSS so there; you should find out what uses OSS and change it if it is possible and not solely on oss.
and the error I am having is because I defined the specific software to hwd:0,0. so what i should do is to check my softwares and set the audio output to "default"
So in another word use you sound card and in output option of your sound card choose "default over hwd:0,0"

Also, when I do "pulseaudio --kill" it seems to restart automatically and journalctl -f shows "[pulseaudio] pid.c: Daemon already running."...
If you need any more info on this, I'll provide it as soon as possible...
    Thanks!

Here, I dug up an old file I have kicking around.
    Put it in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf
Name it anything you want instead of "alsa.conf" as long as the file name ends in ".conf"
    options snd_hda_intel enable=1,0 vid=8086,10de pid=3b56,0bea
    options snd_hda_intel index=0 vid=8086 pid=3b56
The VID and PID numbers are from my hardware.  You will have to replace them from your hardware.  Do:
lspci -nn | grep -i audio
And you will see both your on-board and nVidia audio devices.  Look for [xxxx:xxxx] in the listing.  The first xxxx is your VID - vendor, and the second xxxx is your PID - product/part.
In the "enable=1,0" line put the two VID's first with you on-board being the first VID and then put your two PID's with your on-board being the first PID.  Then in the "index=0" line put your on-board VID and PID.
This will disable the nVidia audio and just enable your on-board audio.  It will explicitly set your on-board audio to be the first audio device on your system.  This will fix a race condition.
Remember, you must put in the appropriate VID and PID's for your specific hardware.
PulseAudio builds on top of ALSA so you are configuring your ALSA devices at a lower level before Pulse starts and when Pulse starts it adds its layer on top of that.
Another assumption is that both audio devices are using snd_hda_intel which is a pretty safe assumption.  Use "lsmod" to confirm this.

  • No sound: alsa snd-hda-intel macbook pro

I can't get sound to work on my macbook pro and I'd appreciate some advice.  lspci shows the following soundcard:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
According to the alsa sound card matrix, this card uses the snd-hda-intel module.  I've followed the alsa article at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ALSA.  Here's what I'm seeing:
    # lsmod|grep '^snd'
    snd_seq_oss 29312 0
    snd_seq_midi_event 6528 1 snd_seq_oss

According to the wiki article, there should be controlC0 and pcmC0D0p devices under /dev/snd.  I think the module isn't being installed correctly.
My system is a 2nd generation macbook pro.  I've read that support for my card was recently added to alsa.  I've had sound working under gentoo and debian by compiling snd-hda-intel statically into kernel 2.6.21.  Can anyone give me advice on how to get this working?
BTW, I'm new to Arch, and I'm really impressed with it so far.  Apart from sound, everything has worked well.

I'll give kamikaze-sources a try.  Thanks.  What exactly is kamikaze-sources?  Neither the AUR page or the homepage (http://kamikaze.waninkoko.es) really explains it.
Has anyone gotten this this sound card to work in Arch and what exactly did you have to do?  Unless kamikaze-sources is really easy to install, I'll probably just compile a custom kernel.

I seem to be having the same problem playing HDMI audio.  Do you happen to remember how you got this resolved?

Audio works fine through the Realtek chip (HDA ATI SB card). Just not through HDMI.

  • Problem Recording Audio Stream: audacity, HDA Intel ALC882, Stereo Mix

    Hi,
I am trying to record an audio stream using Audacity, but I am having problems. From the mixer toolbar dropdown, I have various options for mic, line, cd, but there is no option for 'stereo mix.'  I have looked at alsamixer, and none of the capture channels are muted.  I would be grateful if someone could point me in the correct direction.
    Regards,
    Ian Sutherland

You need pulseaudio to capture from the mixer. Try this:
    http://www.ubuntugeek.com/sound-solutio … users.html
it worked for me in my Lenovo T61 with HDA Intel sound
    Good luck

  • ALSA: Recording Playback Audio with HDA-Intel

    Hello,
My alsa-info. I only use analog output.
Alsamixer looks like this: http://ompldr.org/vYmE4Mw http://ompldr.org/vYmE4NA
I would like to record audio which is being played back on my computer. I need it for recording of gameplay videos. I want to use only ALSA for this and want to avoid PulseAudio, if possible.
Recording audio playing on the computer with Alsamixer tells me that I should use the "Mix" control of the Capture device. However, HDA-Intel appears not to provide such a control.
Does anyone know how I can create such control? Or perhaps I can somehow fake a capture device, that in fact simply plays back the hw:0,0 playback device?
Perhaps the snd-aloop module is a solution.
I will now start reading about .asoundrc files but wanted to leave this question here, because I feel that I'm likely to fail in my search for knowledge.
    Cheers

I can't see a straightforward way to configure icecast to do this on the Arch Wiki.
I tried alsaloop, but it blocks devices when in use. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
    alsaloop -C hw:0,0 -P hw:0,0 -t 10000
I'm not the first to have this problem (thread of 2010-05-22)
I managed to get play-to-file working but ffmpeg doesn't seem to be able to handle the raw output and I'd have to make "default" play to file, as most games don't allow to set what alsa device to use for sound.
