HDMI causes network to crawl..

Hi,
I have a brand new macbook pro i5 model (8GB RAM), everything seems great, and I bought the griffin display port to HDMI cable from the Apple Store.
when I connect it to an HDMI cable and from there to my TOSHIBA LCD the picture and sound are great but something else happens...the network connection (AirPort) slows down a lot... if I happen to also be connected over VPN it will drop the connection after a few minutes.
I initially thought that could not be related since HDMI is not a network media, but numerous attempts and tests confirm this. HDMI causes network problems.
has anyone else experienced this ? What is the solution ?
thanks

This from an apple support article:
"Certain external monitors and LCD displays: Certain displays may emit harmonic interference, especially in the 2.4GHz bandwidth between channels 11 and 14. This interference may be at its worst if you have a portable computer with the lid closed and an external monitor connected to it. Try changing your access point to use 5 Ghz or a lower 2.4 GHz channel."

Hope that works for you.

...and when I tried my HDMI it fails and fails badly with a Vista (64) "Blue Screen" crash, dump and system halt.
Any ideas of what may be causing this ???  ...and better yet, a fix ???
     Greg

as far as i know this is caused buy the chipset settings....
i bet your nb runs in Intel right?....
    Do the ff.
    1. Remove the hdmi cable
    2. Go to hp.com... go to support and drivers.. click download drivers and software.. put your product number.. select windows vista os 64 bit..
    3. under driver chipset.. install that.... make sure you would save it to the desktop first then run it...
    4. under driver graphivs install  Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family Driver.. save it to teh dektop then run it..
    5. under driver storage install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager
    6. under bios install bios update.. it will turn off your system thus turn it back on afterwards
    7. plug in the hdmi cable back.. observe it the nb wil have a blue screen again
    Hope this helps..........

  • Second monitor via hdmi causing mdp to sleep

    Hi
I have a 27" dell monitor which i have been using for a year on my mac mini (2012) via the display port
I have recently added another monitor and im using the HDMI port for that one (hdmi to dvi lead), both monitors work fine BUT then my 27" dell (in the displayport)  will all of a sudden go to sleep and nothing i can do will wake it - i have to actually restart and then everything is ok again (until it happens again)
the display settings are set to "never go into sleep" in the control panel   and its always the display port monitor, the hdmi monitor is always fine
has anyone had a similar issue, would a usb-hdmi or usb-dvi adapter work better or should i (in theory) be able to run a monitor from the displayport and hdmi simultaniously without the displayport monitor going to sleep
    this is driving me crazy!

    hi cable_guy,
    Welcome to Lenovo Forums!
Im sorry to hear what happend..
The HDMI will not display right away, you will have to configure the computer to make it work.
I believe you will have to blind crawl to this options.
First is to press the (Windows key plus P) to pull up the menu of external display
    Things to consider:
                  - You should be in the desktop screen and not in the log in page
                  - Windows 8 and Winodws 7 have a diff interface also your keystroke may differ.
                                =Winodws 7
                                =WIndows 8
                  - Resolution, If you external Screen does not support the current screen resolution and refresh rate it may not work. but this rare to happen.
                  - One last is that you will not know if the screen will not work and how it should be troublshot because you cannot see thing on both screen.
    Regards

  • 10.6.5 update causing network issues

Variations of this have already been posted but when I described my particular issues to Apple support the advice was roll back to 10.6.4!
I have 3 Macs, and this only appears to be affecting my MBP 13". Updating to 10.6.5 causes:
    - ethernet to stop working; it shows as connected and shows correct IP but there is no acccess to web, offsite ping, or email. Reboots very occasionally get it to work but when changing any aspect of network config (eg switching on wireless or changing location) it fails again. Booting with ethernet cable plugged in usually results in the spinning beachball.
    - wireless works reasonably, but any change to config causes loss of network as described above. VPN under wireless becomes very temperamental
    - when the network fails, finder also crashes and restarting it only gets it going for less than a minute before it crashes out again.
    - waking from sleep also appears to cause the network problems
I can replicate the problems easily; works fine up to 10.6.4 but as soon as a later upgrade is applied then it fails. To clear the problem I only have to reinstall the OS over the existing installation, I don't have to do a clean install. The problems occur on both my home network and my work network
I'm afraid that I can't get any logs from the failure because that would mean me breaking it and having to reinstall. I'm currently waiting for the next upgrade but wonder if anyone else has seen this - any thoughts/pointers welcome!
    Kerr

I have the exact same problem on two of my imacs, both have the 10.6.5 update and have been having networking problems since November of last year. I have pinged both IP addresses successfully so they are active.I have also tweaked the proxy settings for our network, trying all combinations, to no avail.
I have at least succeeded in getting one of the macs to connect to email and Safari but the connection in Safari times out after about 10 minutes and then hangs and you have to force quit. Thereafter only a reboot will restore Safari.
The second imac is in a worse state, in that it does not connect up at all even though the network is active and IP has been successfully pinged.

  • Audio causes networking probl

http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl si...28200&from=rss I read that and it made me wonder if perhaps its a two way street. Could networking on Vista cause problems with peoples sound, specificaly the poping and crackling problems that many seem to be plagued by. Just a thought.

I have another side of that throuble: X-Fi card muted/frozed permanently, depending of network activity. Not immediate - maybe after min, maybe after 0 min, but always. More network activity - just faster frozing come. OS: MS Vista 32 bit (with all recommended updates)Card: X-Fi Fataity extreme gamer (with last drivers from Creative site)M/B: ASUS M2R32-MVP with last bios firmware (ATI Crossfire Xfire 3200/SB600 chipset, Marvell 88E800 integrated LAN).

  • Blackberry Desktop Software (Roxio, specifically) causes network problems and blue screens.

I'm posting this note because I just solved my network issue/crash problems. I started experiencing lots of disconnects and page not found on my office computer over the past few days. Only thing I could think of that was different lately was that I installed the Blackberry Desktop Software. Then a huge lightbulb went on over my head. I remembered when it was installing, it said it was installing "Roxio" software and at that moment shivers went down my spine from past experiences.
Well, I have lots of good "bad" experiences with Roxio CD software which had caused these same problems on two of my home computers. It caused blue screens when used in conjunction with my wireless Netgear card and also standard network card. The same symptoms including very slow internet access, general machine sluggishness, etc. I was trying to chase this down for months til I finally removed the Roxio crapware and ALL problems went away. No more slow machine, no more page not found and no more blue screens on two of my computers. Now, on a completely different Toshiba work laptop and different network adaptor, same problems.
So, here we are again with Roxio as part of Blackberry Desktop software. I like my new Blackberrry 8830, but I have to pass this along to the Blackberry folks because I KNOW I'M RIGHT about this. I only installed the software so that I could type my contacts into Outlook and then download to my Blackberry. So, after realizing the common symptoms and after having completed my download (which worked great by the way), I removed the Blackberry Desktop Software and I'm back to speedy everything, no more pages not found, no more putty disconnects, and no more blue screens.
I hope someone gets good use of this post because this drove me crazy the first time around.
    -- Jeff

    We had the same problem.
We did extensive troubleshooting, and found the problem was effecting our new HP Windows XP .Laptops.
We did not have any trouble with the Older Dell Latitude we have.
We found the BSOD still happened after removing the Black Berry Desktop Manager Software.
We traced it to a memroy / resource leak in the USB subsystem.
The workaround we found is to go into the Device manager, and remove all the drivers from the USB section.
** Disclaimer :  This works for us, but may make your computer unusable.  Backup your data to external storage.
                   Back up your computer
Start -> control Panel -> system ->Hardware tab ->  Device manager.

Right click on each Item, and select "uninstall"
                    Don't reboot after each one.
                    * Remove ALL the entries under Universal Serial Bus Controllers *
Repeat until all the entries under  "Universe Serial Bus Controller" are removed
(there may be one that sticks, thats ok. so long as it has been uninstalled.
                Reboot.
The OS will rebuild the USB stack and drivers to default.
This has worked for us so far.
We are not sure if this wont break something else.

  • Software updates cause network system prefs pane lockup

Some problems today after Software Updates on eMac G4 running Tiger 10.4.11. The recent updates have been the all the latest IWork and iLife app updates, including QT 7.6, iTunes 8.2.1 and Security Update 2009-004.
Whenever I try to get into the Network screen of system preferences I keep getting a drop down box that says "your network settings have been changed by another application." I have to click on okay and the box just keeps dropping down. I can't get into change the settings and every time I click on okay this message shows up in the console.log -
    WirelessAttach: getInterfaceWithName failed
The airport card is installed but software is always turned off because I don't use WiFi. I noticed the same message when I turned on the Firewall for all network options including checking the boxes for the advanced UDF blocking, system logging and stealth options since none of them slowed my computer down on kept me from doing anything I normally do on the Internet.
I've been using software update over the last few days to get the latest PPC updates on Mac 10.4.11 and something in them could be causing the problem. I avoided updating for months because everything was working well and the latest updates are primed for Intel machines running Leopard.
This is the first time I've updated any Mac and started having problems like I used to have on PCs when I made changes. Should have gone with my gut feeling and stayed with the older PPC stable software on the older machine. Unless I can figure out what is causing the problem, I'm just going to uninstall what I can and re-install my old PPC stable versions. Something in the mix is causing the problem.

To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.
Try this cure for Security update...

  • Safari 2.0.1 caused network errors

After updating to the latest version of Safari yesterday, my Mac can no longer access the internet at all - it worked fine up to the point where I downloaded and installed the latest version, but after I restarted no sites load at all from anywhere, and no other internet connections work either (Firefox, Dashboard, Mail etc. etc., none work after the update).
I use an ADSLnation X-Modem plugged into an AEBS, and there's no problem with either of those. The X-Modem diagnostics indicate that the connection to the ISP is working normally as it was before the update, and the AEBS has had no problems either. I haven't got the latest Airport 4.2 update installed on my AEBS, as it caused some problems with my laptop when I had 10.3.9 installed.
However, Network Diagnostics in 10.4.2 claims the ISP cannot be found, despite the ADSL modem diagnostics showing that the connection is working fine. I've tried restarting the X-modem, AEBS and my PB G4, but to no avail. And I would hate having to reinstall Tiger to get it to work again.
I would appreciate any tips or advice!

I had a similar problem the other day after upgrading QT to the Pro version. I tried to let the Network Diagnostics Assistant help me and that caused the real problem - after trying that I couldn't connect to anything. I booted into another partition and everything worked fine, but my main partition wouldn't work even after using Disk Utility and Disk Warrior. So I reset all my network settings according to my ISP's instructions and everything worked after that. I can't explain why I had the problem or why resetting everything solved it, but you might want to try setting up a new location and inputting all your network settings into that location.
    Good luck.

  • Printer causes network to go down

We have an HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m. We have three computers (all Dells, two XP boxes and one Win7) and that printer physically wired through a Linksys WRT54GX2 router. We do use the wireless for laptops, the Wii, and a Kindle, but we do not print wirelessly. Several days ago, and after no changes to anything that we were aware of, we discovered that turning on the printer killed any kind of network connectivity. The computers couldn't see each other, they couldn't see the printer, and they certainly couldn't see the internet. Turning off the printer solves the connectivity problems.
I googled around on this and found some people who had similar problems trying to connect wirelessly, but we are wired. I tried cycling the router (disconnect from internet by pulling the cable, power off for 30 seconds, power back on, plug cable back in), but to no avail. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I went to Linksys for a new firmware, and this is what I found:
    07/29/2011
The firmware/driver for this product is no longer available for download. We regret any inconvenience this may cause you.
So apparently I'm three months too late.
FWIW, the printer does seem to be set up with a static IP. When I look at the printer properties in the control panel it lists a specific IP address.
I'm stumped. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks all!

  • Ideapad U330 causes network crash

    Hey everyone,
I have a friends ideapad that is having a wierd network issue.  Whenever I try to connect it to my wireless network it causes the whole network to loose its connection.  I have tried it on three different routers and it has the same effect:
Network is working fine with other computers connected and able to browse the network.  I boot the ideapad and turn on wireless.  It sees the wireless and asks for WEP key and connects.  As soon as the ideapad connects then all other computers on the network can no longer view websites.
I have also disabled the wireless card and tried to hard wire into router with same result.  Network card drivers apear up to date.  I have only ever been able to connect if I remove the router and plug directly into the cable modem.
Can anyone give any ideas for a solution?
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Plugging in iPhone (USB) causes network to slow

    Here's a weird one...
I've got a MBP from mid-2012. Up to date with all updates. I've also got an iPhone 6 (unlocked version).
With both connected to the same WiFi network, but not each other everything is fine. However, If I then plug the iPhone into the MBP (using the USB-Lightning cable). The network performance goes down the tubes. By that, I mean dropped packets, 17 second ping times, etc. And it's bad on both devices. If I unplug the iPhone, the network performance eventually (after a minute or so) returns to normal. If on the other hand I have WiFi turned off on the iPhone and plug it in to the MBP, nothing happens. Network performance on the MBP stays steady. The weirdness only occurs when I've got WiFi enabled on both devices.
Personal hotspot is not turned on.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

    Success.
After a bit of a dig around google searches, it seems there's some sort of glitch between Apple and Logitech webcam device drivers.
I removed the Logitech drivers, and voila! iPhone no longer causes instant meltdown of pc.
My question now then, how do I work out if my incomplete restore can be turned into a complete restore? I was game enough to hit the restore button in itunes and it only gave me the option of returning to original settings, thus erasing what is currently on there. I cancelled that move!
I would like what I have (all contacts, at least!) plus the disappeared old stuff (pics, notes, texts would be nice)...
Am i right in understanding that iTunes will only keep one backup and any subsequent ones will replace the previous one? I'm nervous that if I backup what i have there now, it will replace a good backup that I really might be able to restore in full.
    Any thoughts on this?

  • Toshiba Canvio Basics 3.0 causes network broken

    I use my extenal hdd(usb 3.0) to macbook(MacBook5,2,OS X 10.8.1 (12B19)).
During copying files, the network is broken.
I use other hdd(usb 2.0), but  there is no same situation.
    Does anyone have same situation?
How can I submit this problem to Apple by email?
    Thansk.

    That's too bad. >_<
I have look up online support page. It recommends to go to Apple store, but I don't think it's work.
I just stop copy action and monitor network by ping.
When I copy file, ping is timeout. When I stop it, ping is normal.
Strangely, it's noraml sometimes after reboot.
I think it may be caused by some driver issue.
    Thanks.

  • HDMI causes problems with Multiplex D

    Hello,
I'm having a little problem when connected via HDMI.  Basically it causes reception problems often resulting in the loss of Multiplex D (Film Four, Viva etc).  I have proven this as I have the silver box so can check via RF loop when HDMI isn't conected.
I had a new aerial installed professionally on Tuesday by a local CAI approved installer and have checked that everything is fine with that as Mux D is received by my TV at 100% quality and about 80% strength.
Whwn HDMI isn't conencted, Mux D comes through at 77% strength and 100% quality.  When I connect the HDMI lead to the TV the quality drops to around 44% (which still gives a picture) and sometimes drops to 0%.  I tested by using the strength checker on the vision box for the 'Yesterday' channel.
Is this a problem anyone else has experienced or is it just a fault with my box which has served me so well for 2 and a half years thus far

    Weird. What a nuisance.
If you schedule a Film4 programme (using the RF connection) does it record when your TV & vbox are off but connected via HDMI?
Do you have another HDMI cable you could try?

  • Streaming to Apple TV causes network to collapse

I have been having major streaming issues to my Apple TV for a few months now. Its been getting progressively worse. I can't even stream a few minutes of a program without my network locking up and freezing.
Basically, the streaming performance is poor, and after 20 or 30 minutes, the movie that is playing freezes, then the entire wireless network created by the Time Capsule stops working. Anything hooked up via Ethernet however still does work. Only the Time Capsule Network fails. This happens every time I reboot the Time Capsule. I have also started over and reset the device.
I had Apple replace the Time Capsule (gen I, 500 gig), and had my cable company replace my modem. Neither one of these things solved the problem at all. It is still happening.
I have the cable modem running into the Time Capsule, then the Time Capsule runs into a router that sends wired ethernet through various points in the house (although at this time only 1 compute is still hard wired).
I have no idea what is causing this. Could this be an Apple TV issue? Why would it cause the entire network to crash?
    iMac 27", 2.8 Core i7 Quad   Mac OS X (10.6.4)   Final Cut Studio, 2TB, 8gb Ram, ATI 4850

Probably doesn't matter that much, but I just realized the Airport Extreme is actually a 5th generation (MD031LL/A).

  • Time Machine backup causes network connections to fail

We have a simple network with OS X Server (10.6.4) + a 10.6.4 Mac client and a Windows XP client. For some time we have been suffering sporadic drop outs of the network connection from the iMac OS X client to the server: the shared drives just disappear and you can't reconnect.
I have now narrowed this down to a problem with Time Machine. By logging on as a user on the OS X Server I was able to observe that the user session on the server suffered the same problem sometimes and this ONLY happens when Time Machine is running - I think its always when Time Machine is backing up the server.
Its an absolutely infuriating problem and very disruptive for our business. I am loath to switch off Time Machine on the server but don't know what else to do. Has anyone else experienced this problem or got any ideas?

Yep, Rikakiah, seems you are right, I am not alone! There are two other threads here which discuss the same issue:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11539266&#11539266
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11539227
From my testing it seems that the problem may be related to some interplay between Time Machine and LDAP - I say this because I can sometimes clear the problem and regain access to my shares by going into Workgroup Manager, removing the group assignments (which give access to the shares), saving the change, then adding the group assignments back.
This made me think that your solution should fix it, but unfortunately although I have excluded /var/db from Time Machine backups, I am still sporadically getting the problem.
