Safari 2.0.1 caused network errors

After updating to the latest version of Safari yesterday, my Mac can no longer access the internet at all - it worked fine up to the point where I downloaded and installed the latest version, but after I restarted no sites load at all from anywhere, and no other internet connections work either (Firefox, Dashboard, Mail etc. etc., none work after the update).
I use an ADSLnation X-Modem plugged into an AEBS, and there's no problem with either of those. The X-Modem diagnostics indicate that the connection to the ISP is working normally as it was before the update, and the AEBS has had no problems either. I haven't got the latest Airport 4.2 update installed on my AEBS, as it caused some problems with my laptop when I had 10.3.9 installed.
However, Network Diagnostics in 10.4.2 claims the ISP cannot be found, despite the ADSL modem diagnostics showing that the connection is working fine. I've tried restarting the X-modem, AEBS and my PB G4, but to no avail. And I would hate having to reinstall Tiger to get it to work again.
I would appreciate any tips or advice!

I had a similar problem the other day after upgrading QT to the Pro version. I tried to let the Network Diagnostics Assistant help me and that caused the real problem - after trying that I couldn't connect to anything. I booted into another partition and everything worked fine, but my main partition wouldn't work even after using Disk Utility and Disk Warrior. So I reset all my network settings according to my ISP's instructions and everything worked after that. I can't explain why I had the problem or why resetting everything solved it, but you might want to try setting up a new location and inputting all your network settings into that location.
Good luck.

• What's causing email transfer disruption network error?

I would appreciate help in troubleshooting and solving my problem of which the email transfer disruption network error is only one of the problems.
I'm using Mozilla Firefox rather than Microsoft Explorer with Ixquick as my default Internet search engine. I have Juno as my email provider. I have the same features on a laptop via WiFi and my workstation.
We have a new modem, and have had problems since the installation of the new modem.
With each attempt to transfer my email, there is the following Mail Transfer Error message: "There were errors encountered during mail transmission. Mail transfer was disrupted by a network error."
In searching the Internet using Ixquick, I encounter the following message(s):
"Unable to connect"
"Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at support.moxilla.org."
"The site could not be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments."
"If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection."
"If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."
"Try Again"
Thank you for your time and efforts with this matter.
Take care,
Margo

When you look at the address in the address bar, does it seem to match up with the email?
Sounds like Firefox sent the server something it wasn't expecting. Sometimes this can be caused by obsolete or corrupted cookies -- assuming you have visited the site before. It also might be caused by modifications to standard information sent to servers such as the "user agent" string that specifies your browser version and OS.
To clear a site's cookies, while viewing a page on the site, either:
right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
(menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

• A network error occurred while trying to communicate with the server.

Hello All,
I am getting some new error messages when opening the server app on my Mac Mini server running OS X 10.8.2 and Server 2.2.1. First I get a message that says "A network error occurred while trying to communicate with the server." and then after trying to open some of the service panes, I get additional errors that say "Multiple errors occurred on the server while processing commands." The services don't load and I just see "Error Reading Settings" in the server app.
I started to get these errors when I added a new website to the server. All the services are working fine but I cannot access them in the server app.
In console I'm seeing these errors when I try to access various services:
2/24/13 8:02:12.692 PM Server[956]: Error: The server '10.0.1.150' reported an error while processing a command of type: 'readSettings' in plug-in: 'servermgr_dns'. I have already restarted the server and used terminal to stop and start postgres. Any more thoughts on how to repair this?

Just as I had suspected, the whole GUI crashed because of certificate problems. After two and a half hours with enterprise support, it turns out the com.apple.servermgrd certificate in the server keychain had become corrupt.
We determined this by typing https://127.0.0.1:311 into Safari and we could see all the server modules and interact with them through the web interface. All the services were working properly as well so we knew that it was just the Server.app GUI that simply couldn't read settings that was causing the problem.
So, first we closed the server app. Went into /var/servermgrd and deleted all the files from this folder. Then, in Keychain, deleted the com.apple.servermgrd certificate. Did a search for com.apple.servermgrd in Keychain and deleted everything else that came up for it.
Then restarted the server. Now the server app was able to properly connect to the services in the background and read them properly. This was the jist of the troubleshooting that solved the problem. It also seems like DNS is causing problems because that is the only service that will not read right but is functioning properly in the background.
I will post an update once Apple figures out what is wrong with DNS. Hope this helps anybody else having these problems.

• Getting network error in facebook app in my ipad mini

I'm using ipad min wi-fi. Facebook app is showing network error and while trying to open through Safari it is showing "WARNIGN!! your flash player is out of date. please update to continue" I have uninstalled and installed again. But it is not working as desired. I have changed my home wifi password also.
It is working in my office well.
please help to fix it.

Were you able to fix your problem? I have a similar problem, After I upgraded the Ipad's operating system to 6.0.1, I have been unable to read any news feeds on facebook. It just times out with the message "Network Error". This also seems to be causing problems running the Synga poker app.
I also have uninstalled the Facebook app and reinstalled it. I have reset the Ipad. Any other suggestions?

• -66559 Network Error on Quicktime

I too, am getting the lovely question mark over my Quicktime logo on anything needing to open on Quicktime, then I get "A network error hars occured. This computer's internet connection appears to be online. (-66559).
I'm running Quicktime Player 7.1.2 on OS X 10.4.7. I haven't had any problems with it until today for some reason. Any ideas? I'm able to open the movies using Internet Explorer, but not Safari.
I DID go into Quicktime System Preferences and unchecked the "Flash" option under Misc. as it suggested in another post, but it actually wasn't even checked. Is there another setting I should check? Just odd it is suddenly doing this.
Thanks,
H

It might even be something as simple as the Date & Time System Preferences trying to connect to an NTP server in order to make sure the system time is in sync with the rest of the world.
And do you have the web server enabled? Not sure if Apache does this, but I remember back in the Mac OS 9 days, the web sharing facility would cause my Mom's iMac to dial the modem and connect. It seems my nephew enabled web sharing while playing with Nan's iMac

• KCF Error Domain CF Network error 302

Just migrated from a first generation iPhone to the new iPhone 3G yesterday and so far the 3G service is spotty at best. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It took the AT&T store 2.5 hours to get my phone activated. When they were done the internet service did not work.
The 3G finally started working about an hour later and has been terrible. Most of the time it takes twice as long (not shorter) to load a page on the 3G than on Edge, if it works at all. I also keep getting network errors:
"Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding"
and my new friend:
"Safari can't open the page. The error was: "Operation could not be completed. (kCF Error Domain CF Network error 302.)"
I also have the screen shots to prove it. Looks like Apple told someone in a Canadian thread, the reason for this error was due to a service provider, Rodgers in Canada? Well guess what Apple, I'm not in Canada, I'm in NJ and I'm having the same problem so I think you can throw that theory out the window. And by the way the cell tower is directly across the street from me so I can't see why there would be any issues.
I've restarted the phone and reset the network preferences more times than I'd like to mention, which by the way, I never had to do on my first generation iPhone. I also have had the problems others are mentioning regarding iTunes not syncing my music back. I created a playlist and manually sync'd it back. I also noticed some TV shows I purchased from iTunes were not syncing over either.
So far my 3G experience has been horrible and at this point, I will highly recommend to everyone I know that they DO NOT purchase this device until the issues are resolved. Just finished advising my co-worker of all the issues and he stated he is going to hold off.

Hello, Perhaps you could clarify what's happening?
- When does the error appear
- What application are you using
- What are you doing in the application
- Does there seem to be any similarity between the errors? i.e. does it only happen at one o'clock in the afternoon or when you doing the same thing every time?
- Have you tried rebooting or restoring the iPhone
- You say it's only happened since you upgraded you iPhone. Do you mean you've upgraded to a 3G iPhone or you've just upgraded an original iPhone to v2.0?
Howevre, given your error message, from the site:
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Networking/Reference/CFNetworkErrors/Re ference/reference.html#//appleref/doc/cref/kCFErrorHTTPConnectionLostError 302 is:
kCFErrorHTTPConnectionLost
*The connection to the server was dropped. This usually indicates a highly overloaded server.*
I'm not sure what this error message specifically identifies the cause being on your iPhone but hopefully if you provide a bit more info we'll be able to work through it.

• Software Update: Networking Error (-3001)

I'm trying to update my old G5 Mac (OS 10.5.8) via Software Update. I have a list of around a dozen items to update. I've tried running them individually but I keep getting Networking Error (-3001). Can anybody offer a way to fix this?
It's an old Mac G5 Dual 2.7Ghz.

Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

• Software update - networking error (Mac OS 10.4.11)

Hi everyone,
I've been having problems running software update on my 867 MHz Powerbook G4. Every time I try to run software update, I get the same message: "A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again."
I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.11.
My network is running fine, and I've run Network Diagnostics several times fully through to confirm this.
I've tried repairing the disk permissions through disk utility a few times, and nothing's changed.
I tried copying three files from my Library / Preferences folder, along with my Caches folder (after reading that this could fix the problem), but still, software update doesn't work.
I tried running the 10.4.11 combo update for PPC, rebooted in safe mode, and repaired my disk permissions again, but still, no luck.
There's another problem that might be related: Safari can't load pages. Firefox 2.0.0.18 works fine, but Safari doesn't do anything. Also, closing the Safari window (Ctrl + W) doesn't work, quitting the program is the only way to make it go away.
Thanks in advance for the help, it's much appreciated!

Hi James, and a warm welcome to the forums!
To expand a bit on Sig's great advice...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
Also, how much free space do you have on your HDD?

• Software Update not working due to a "networking error"

Hopefully this post is in the correct forum. In trying to run Software Update, I am getting a networking error ("A networking error has occured: time out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again."). I can get on the network just fine via Firefox, and my Mobile Me account is syncing to my Address Book and iCal. However, Safari, Mail, and Software Update can't seem to connect. I ran Repair Permissions and Repair Disk (from the 10.5 Install disc), but these did not solve the problem. I also downloaded and ran the 10.5.4 Combo; it appeared to run fine. But subsequently running the Security Update 2008-005 and trying to reinstall Safari failed (both directly downloaded from Apple). Security Update won't let me select the computer hard drive, and Safari tells me that OS 10.5.2 or higher is required (even though I have 10.5.4 installed). I also tried running Software Update from other profiles on the computer to no avail.
Any thoughts as to what is going on here? I'd prefer not to have to reinstall the OS from scratch, but I'm running out of ideas.
Thanks!

Select the clone tool and try a tool re-set.

using time warner road runner. when I try to open up safari to home page I get error message that this version does not support the "community toolbar" can't proceed until closing the error message. sick of seeing it

That toolbar/ct plugin seems to cause problems for all who install it!
Close Safari, then locate and delete the following files and it should be gone:
/Library/Application Support/Conduit
/Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
/Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
/Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
where / is the root library on your Hard Disk.
If you are running Snow Leopard you should also look here:
Library/launchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
Library/Application support/conduit plugins
Also, as mentioned by Gilli2000:
Library/Receipts - If you read it, it has information in it at the bottom referring extensively to "CT" and "community toolbar".
Maybe it is harmless, but trash those items anyway!
Note: Safari does not support any third-party toolbars except those supplied as an extension to Safari via the Extension Gallery.

my macbook pro is connected to internet via my time capsule but my iPad and iPhone won't. it shows wifi connection to the time capsule but when i go on to the internet on the iPad or iPhone, it comes up with network error. can anyone help?

This can be caused by a number of issues.
Was everything working and then suddenly stopped??
Or is this a new clean setup and has never worked.
Do you have a cable modem which is not a router and the TC setup in bridge? That will cause it. The TC must be in router mode, ie dhcp and nat.
Check the IP the MBP gets including dns and gateway..
Then check the ipad/iphone.. post what IP dns and gateway (router in applespeak) they get.

• The Safari Can't Find The Server - Error!

After updating my iPad and Mac OSX to the latest version, I am constantly getting 'The Safari Can't find the server' error on valid addresses. I have to refresh a few times to access the website.
I have gone through many posts and I gathere that it is not a Mac issue, but something to do with network settings - DHCP/Proxy. But I still could not figure out how to solve the problem.
If someone can guide/advise me then that would be a great help..
Thanks

I'm having similar issues with Safari saying it can not find the server.  Tumblr and Zooniverse sites are particularly troublesome, even with refreshing.  I have checked the status of their servers and they are up and running without issues.  I can access them eventually but have to close the current tab and reopen later.  However, when I use Chrome or Firefox I can access the sites with no problem.  It's not a local network problem as I can access the internet and those sites on my iPhone and all other sites.  It appears to be an issue with Safai.

Can anyone help, please.

I am also fixed.  I also loaded Onavo, but that was the other day ... this is what I did with the help of online chat with AT&T ...
I went to:
Settings
Wifi
I selected the network I was working on by hitting the blue arrow located on right side
At the detail page of that network I scolled down to the bottom to find HTTP Proxy boxes
I was on Off and changed it to Auto and it worked!
I was soo jazzed!!
Instructions said if it was already on AUTO, to change it to Manual and make your Port = 80 but I didn't have to do that!
YIPPIE!!  I'm a new man!!
Go to settings -----> WI-FI  -----> select the network you're using  ------> hit the blue arrow located on the right-side of the network name (ie: show details of that network), this takes you to another page.
--------> at the bottom of the page you'll see "HTTP Proxy" boxes (located below the "renew lease" button) ---------------> change the proxy to AUTO.   Note: if you're already at AUTO, change it to "Manual" and make your Port = 80.

• Adobe Folio Builder - Network Error - Dispite no restrictions, details inside

Hi,
We have a user who is using Indesign, and we have installed Adobe Folio Builder. The problem occurs when they try to sign in to Folio Builder and are given the message 'Network Error'
We know it's not a problem with their credentials as they can sign in to the online portal with no problems. We also have tried different credentials and are given the correct error message that the credentials are wrong.
I've checked the network logs to see what happens when they try and click folio builder and I can't see any unpermitted sites/address show up. What I see is:

I can't try another machine, as we only have Folio Builder on the one machine.
