HDMI Resolution Reverts to Auto on Power Cycle

Hi All,
I've been setting up 3 Apple TVs where I need to set the resolution of the devices to 720p @ 50Hz. This works fine, until I power cycle the unit, at which point it reverts to Auto and due to EDID sets the resolution to 1080p which is giving me problems with the HDMI over Cat5 baluns I am using over long distance. This happens on all of the 3 units.
All 3 of the units are running the latest software, and I am not sure how to resolve this. Does anyone have any ideas? Sorry if this has been asked before, I had a search and couldn't find anything.
Thanks in advance.
Matt

I first noticed this problem months ago. See my reply along with another person's here...

  • Auto Answer will NOT stay on after power cycle or reset - C20 TC7.3.0 UCM 10.5SU1 registration

As the title suggests, I've got 2 C20 codecs running the latest 7.3.0 code I can download registered to UCM 10.5.1 SU1.  Power cycling or resetting them causes the auto-answer to default to off.  There is still no way to change auto-answer from within UCM, and TMS cannot manage the device anymore.
I've found a couple of instances of this with older TC and UCM code, but it seems this issue continues today.
    Any ideas?

Saw that and it ended up being the right direction, but since I was on a different version I wasn't able to use that device pack.
So, I found out the following from TAC:
Auto-Answer became a configurable field presented to UCM in TC7.2.x, but the appropriate management fields on the web pages didn't become available until later in the device pack. I read through a couple of device pack readme's and I didn't see anything related, but sure enough installing 10.5.1.11005-2 presented the fields and that works fine now.

  • AppleTV loses video output after sitting and has to be power cycled

I have a strange problem. When I switch back to the AppleTV after having been watching regular TV or any other activity on my entertainment system, I often come back to no video from the AppleTV or it is on the resolution selection screen. If it is on the resolution selection, and I select 1080i, the sound of the startup animation happens, but no video. Either way, I have to unplug the AppleTV and let it start again to get video back. The same is when it starts up and it has no video at all.
Last night it just sat there for a long time with the Apple logo in the middle of the screen and did nothing else... I had to pull the plug to get it to restart.
Do I have a bad unit? I am using Harmony Remote, and I am wondering if it might be sending something that is confusing the AppleTV.
How safe is it to unplug it a few times a day? I can't imagine that it would be a good thing.
Windows XP   Sony DGB800 Audio Receiver - Mitsubishi 65" DLP TV

No Samsung. I have a Mitsubishi 65" DLP rear projection. I would lean toward it not being the problem because sometimes I get video (just the apple logo) and nothing else and sometimes no video at all. When I get the apple logo, it won't respond to any remote stuff, even though the light is white/blue, rather than orange, indicating startup. It will sit on the apple logo indefinitely.
I have tried switching inputs on the TV when I have no video, and it still didn't help. Rebooting the AppleTV fixes the problem. I've unplugged the hdmi cable and plugged it back in and still no help.
It's just odd. It feels broken/unhappy. It's only a week old and this is the only problem so far. I love it but this one issue is really aggravating me. I'm worried about power cycling so much (at all).
I appreciate any help. Should I take it back to the Apple store and get a new one?

  • Msi z87 g45 power cycling

I recently built a new pc in November and haven't had a problem with it until now. It doesn't post doesn't beep and won't boot as well. No display and it does this very thing with nothing plugged in at all (obviously the psu is plugged in).
    My specs:
    Msi z87 g45 gaming
    I5-4670k (not over clocked yet)
    Gtx 660
    Corsair vengeance  2x4 gb ram
    60 gb  Kingston SSD
    Evga supernova nex750b psu
The problem started yesterday when I had removed all of my components to route my psu cables.
After getting everything installed correctly I plugged it in and hit the power button and it came on for a second and turned back off I thought I had forgotten to plug the 8 pin cpu power in until it turned on a second later and immediately turn off. I quickly killed the power and had a look inside but nothing appeared to be wrong.
Now every time I turn it on it sits there turning on and off until I unplug it.
I've tried switching the ram the psu and reseating the cpu several times and nothing works.
I did manage to get it to stay on by shorting a jumper labeled "J1" but  there's no display or anything other then the fans and LEDs being on.
Anyone know what could cause this? Everything is brand new  and  has only been running for a month and was running two days ago.

I have tried clearing CMOS by the button the battery and the jumper.
The only bios setting that I changed was to set my ram to run at 1600mhz which is what it's rated for (it was running at 1333 on the auto setting)
The thing that puzzles me is that J1 jumper that is right next to dim 1.
If I hold a screwdriver to it during the power cycling thing it stays on as long as it's being shorted but I don't get a display or anything everything is on and spinning but it doesn't boot. As soon as I take it off it reverts back to the cycle of on and off.
I've searched google for any possible incompatibilities or fixes but I couldn't find any.
Also something I forgot, I accidentally bent one of my usb 3.0 pins to the point where it touched another pin. Could this have caused my problem? If so rma wouldn't work cause I bent a pin. I'm totally fine with buying a new board but I'm not sure if it's the board or some other component.

  • Help! Fast Internet only for short while after power cycling of AEBS

The Charter Communication tech came out to check why we weren't getting the advertised 20meg speed. Well, the speed out of the modem is ~19meg and if I plug in the laptop directly to the brand new Airport Extreme router (firmware 7.4.1), we do get the fastest speed.
I ditched the setup I had with dual band separate networks, since we don't actually transfer files between computers much. I just want fast Internet for downloads/uploads.
I have the network setup on auto bands and auto channels (and I have tried setting the channels manually). We don't have many neighbors so there isn't a lot of interference that I can tell.
If I unplug the router and plug it back in--then the wireless network speed is fast ~19 megs. However, after less than 30 min. the network bogs down and becomes 5-7megs. Then if I power cycle, it goes right back up to 19megs.
    Why????

  • Deskjet 3050A J611 needs power-cycle to work wirelessly

Been putting up with this for ages but made a concerted effort to solve it the last day or two, with no success.
The issue is that the printer still appears on the network, ie it shows on the router page, and I can additionally ping it from a PC and get a response,  and it appears as "Idle" in the OS X printing section....but it doesn't respond to either printing or scanning requests. Just seems to get stuck.
If I then power cycle the printer, it works again for a while. Then, I come back a while later, whether it be hours or days, and the thing doesn't work again.
I disabled auto-off, made no difference.
I gave it a static IP via DHCP, made no difference. Logged onto its web page and gave it a static IP that way and that made no difference either.
I thought maybe it's my wireless network (although everything else connected to it works fine), so I even plugged in a spare Apple Airport Express and created it's own hidden wireless network connected to my main network. Again, it worked for a while, but then stopped working when I tried it again this morning. The Airport Express was positioned right next to the printer, so it's not about the signal.
I'm not sure what else I can try. It seems that there is a bug in the firmware or something - I have read a lot of similar reports across the web.
For some reason it enters a state where it appears to be on the network, indeed responds to a ping, but does not work properly.
My OS X is 10.9, but I've also seen the same issue when printing from iOS devices - i.e. when it's in this non-working state, iOS print requests also fail, so I don't think it's driver related.
Can only be the hardware, right?

Just to add a bit more by way of diagnostics.
Just had it happen again and I tried to navigate to the printer's page in my browser and although it accepted the IP address it didn't load a page, just left the screen blank.
I then printed out the Printer Status Report, which shows everything normal, ie the expected IP address, Network Status : Ready, Active Connection Type : Wireless.
Yet neither printing or scanning work, or accessing the printer's web page.
I then went into the HP Utility, via Printers & Scanners in OS Settings, and attempted to print a test page, which I believe bypasses the driver. This caused the connection to the printer to be lost completely. After doing that, pings no longer responded either. Likewise, trying to access the printer's web page subsequently time out.
It was as if printing the test page finally killed it off.
In fact, when i looked at the printer's screen it was just white, and pressing the power button caused it to reboot.
Now it works again, everything is accessible, but I know that next time I come to try and use it the chances are it will have got itself into the bad state again.
While it might not seem a huge inconvenience to have to power cycle the printer in order to be able to use it, it's actually far from ideal because I've got kids who want to be able to print stuff out when they want, and the printer is at the bottom of the house.

  • Razr keeps power cycling

My Razr suddenly starting power cycling yesterday. It was close to a full battery and I set it down for about an hour. When I picked it back up, it was completely unresponsive - the battery had died. I plugged it in to recharge and when it finally got up enough charge to power back on, I got the Select Dock Type message (supposedly connected to HDMI even though it wasn't.) After a few minutes, it started the power cycling and hasn't stopped. I did a factory reset, hoping that would work, but I get the "please wait, this may take a few minutes" screen then it restarts again.
It seems like a hardware issue but I'm concerned about sending it back and getting a new phone because I dropped it a while back and there's a ding on the corner near the headphone jack. I don't want to be on the hook for the full retail price of this phone if they decide that ding caused the problem (even though it worked fine after I dropped it and this power cycling/hdmi problem happened out of the blue.) Is there anything else I can do to fix it?

Well then the Only solution i would have.. Holly would be shut your Maxx down Pull the Sim Card leave it out for 2 min then Re-install it. Was the phone bought an card installed at the Store Holly if so the Rep doing the Install might have touched the Sim Card the Gold area of  them is really sensitive to Static Electricity & the Oils in our fingers an if touched they can Fail or Cause issues in your phone.. To Understand this a little better it's like taking a Magnet an Going over a Credit card you do it once or Twice over the Strip it can Render the Card Useless. So you might try getting a New Card an see if that Works But Remember Watch how you hold the Sim Card.. Good Luck b33

  • Standby timer decreasing on power cycle

I turn my phone off every night when it is not in use and power it back on in the morning.
Recently, I have been noticing that with every power cycle, the standby timer under the Usage area has been decreasing.
Time will go from 1 Day (power cycle), 3 hours (power cycle), 38 minutes, for example.
Is this normal because of the power cycle?

This sounds almost exactly like my problem, except my model is the 30 GB.
Like you, I listen to my iPod while driving into work. I pause the music, unplug, and head into the office. I rarely lock the iPod as I intend to listen to it soon after I arrive at my desk. Some days I'm able to start listening right away but other days I get involved in work and don't use the iPod at all.
Every day for the past two weeks when I get back into my car, I try to resume the music. iPod responds, indicates it's playing, but the timer doesn't advance. Pause. Play. Pause. Play. Nothing. Centre button + menu = let's try this again. I'm able to play music again after doing the reset, though I lose my position on the current playlist.
I don't know if this relates in any way, but this problem seems to have started up after I turned on auto-syncing for iTunes to iPod. I believe I was using iTunes 7.5 and I haven't updated it to the newer version. (It's also moot point as I very recently had to do a hard drive replacement.)
Has anyone else encountered this frustrating lack of responsiveness from their iPod? Is there a solution available?

  • Droid 3 Power cycling.

Everytime my roommate slides the the keyboard the device power cycles. My wife's phone was doing the same thing, so I swapped batteries with my phone, her battery would not even power on my phone,  switched them back, and it solved the problem. Swapped roommate and wife's battery, and same result. Why would this happen, and why would temporarily swapping batteries fix it?
    Help.....

This could be coincidental or something is wrong with one of the batteries.  Another possibility is there was some lint, dust, crumbs, or other obstruction that triggered the phone to reset when it was physically removed. By removing the battery, the obstruction could have been dislodged. Clean both the battery port and the receptors of the battery with a soft cloth or brush if you have one. You can also take the phones into a VZW store and have new batteries tested in the phones to ensure the issue is battery-related.
If this issue is still happening, I would suggest calling the warranty number listed in your phones.  The number is 866-406-5154.  You can also PM me with your info, and I will call as soon as I can.  Let us know the outcome of your situation if a resolution is already in place.

  • Stuck in power cycle loop

So last night my Apple TV was going through its normal process when it is updating new software. Some where along the lines however the update stopped and now it is stuck in a power loop. I have read from others that they can get to the main menu and all that but all I am able to get is the starting picture of an apple and it sits on that for about 15-25 seconds and then it turns off again. I have tried to power cycle by unplugging it, pressing and holding the menu and play button, I left it unplugged all night and tried again tonight, so far the problem is still going on. I have more recently plugged it in to the internet souce directly (ethernet cable) and have been letting power loop hoping that it was just going to finish up... thats not the case. Any help or suggestions would be super. Thanks
    - J

Yeah I did unplug the HDMI, power cable, and ethernet internet cable... I then used a Micro USB caple to plug it into my computer and it didn't work. I know some of the USB ports are powered differently but I did try both of USB ports and still it didn't work. I went as far as to make sure that I didn't have any other USB device plugged into my computer making sure that the power wasn't being diverted. Unfortunatly this still resulted in the same problem. I could see the white light on my Apple TV and it was blinking like it has been doing since the problem first appeared... Thanks again for taking time to ensure accuracy but I belive this Apple TV will need to be sent in and I will have to purchase a new one.

  • HP 6310 AIO Printer locks up and needs to be power-cycled when faxing from my PC.

I have an HP 6310 AIO Printer; Whenever I try to fax a document from my PC, the printer locks up (All lights flashing) and needs to be power-cycled. I can fax from the printer glass directly but unable to from my PC. Also the software communicates properly whenever I am scanning from the glass or feed tray. What would make it locks up and all light flashing? it seems as if whenever I generate the fax or scan from the PC end it locks up the printer.

Completely reload the full feature software and drivers for the printer.

  • My Itunes update hung up and wouldn't complete. I had to power cycle the computer. Now Itunes will not open.

My Itunes update hung up (for an hour) and wouldn't complete. I had to power cycle the computer. Now Itunes won't open / start.

In iTunes go to the Edit menu, then preferences.  Click on the "Devices" tab. In there you will see a device backups section. If there is nothing there then you did not backup to your computer first.  It is also possible that you were backing up to iCloud before updating.  That is harder to check with an iPhone that is logged into your account.

  • X1 Any-room DVR, 3 nights have to Power cycle all 3 DVR boxes to see Recordings

On 7/2 I went to watch a DVR show in my bedroom, which is not my Primary DVR box. The recording was playing like a slideshow, skipping and moving at 1/100th of it's normal play speed. So I went into the living room to the primary DVR and checked the recordings from the Saved Programs menu and it told me that no recordings were available and Comcast was working to fix this problem. I then called Comcast customer service and a man sent a refresh signal for me, and it reset the primary DVR box, and then the recordings came back on the primary box. I went to check the secondary box in the bedroom where I had the original problem, and that box still was not showing any recording, it didn't have the same error, it just said that no recordings were available and to check if all my DVR boxes were plugged in. I asked the guy on the phone and he told me that I should unplug that one and plug it back in and that it should then work. I asked if he should wait on the phone in case it didn't and he said no, and that if it didn't, if I just waited another half hour it would be back. I hastily agreed and hung up.Well, they never came back that night. And I checked for another 2 hours. On the morning of 7/3, it still wasn't back, so I decided I would power cycle all of the boxes at the same time. I unplugged all 3, waited a minute. Then I plugged in the primary one, waited for that to come all the way on, waited 5 minutes after the primary box was all the way on and then proceeded to plug in the 2 other DVR boxes. Then I waited 5 minutes until after they were back live on TV to check the DVR menu (the original guy on the phone insisted that I should wait at least 3 minutes after the DVR box was turned all the way back onto live tv before opening the Saved Recordings menu). This seemed to work, the recordings came back and it worked fine for a little while during the day that day. Later that night I went to sleep really late after 12am. I went to play a DVR show in bed and it said again that my recordings were unavailable and to check all the DVR boxes. AGAIN!? YES. So I did the same thing again, I unplugged all 3, plugged in primary box, waited for it to go to live tv, waited 5 mins, plugged in the other 2, waited for them to go to live tv, waited 5 mins, then checked the saved list and it came back. Then it worked for the rest of that night. The next day on 7/4, I was out all day so I didn't really get a chance to watch until later on that afternoon, I can't remember if I watched anything DVR'd. But that night I went to bed and guess what!? The recordings were gone again. I did the same thing again. It worked for the night.Today, on 7/5, watched a couple shows on the DVR during the day, was still working. Went to bed at 9:30 pm... RECORDINGS ARE GONE AGAIN! SOOOOO I spend another 20 or more minutes power cycling and waiting and stuff, it works, I start to watch a show, 20 minutes in, it freezes, like it did the first night. I try to restart the recording several times. Still frozen. I try resetting just the bedroom box through the power settings menu on the DVR. When it comes back on, NO RECORDINGS AGAIN! TWICE IN ONE NIGHT. I am completely fed up at this point. I know if I call that you are just going to tell me to power cycle it or send a refresh signal again, and it's going to take another hour--and then it is just going to stop working again by tomorrow night!!! I am losing sleep over this at this point, literally. What is going to be done about this beyond power cycling and refresh signaling??? I refuse to spend any more time on the phone anymore at night when this happens, it wakes up my boyfriend who has work earlier than me.

  • Airport Extreme - Slow until power cycle every few hours (wired, not modem)

I have the latest Airport Extreme Base Station (no time capsule) connected to a Motorola Surfboard 6121 modem.
When wired directly to the AEBS I get download speeds of 90Mbps+, but after a few hours (I haven't determined if it is consistent) the dowloand speed drops to about 1-4Mbps. Power cycling the cable modem brings back the original speeds.
Please Note: When wired directly to the cable modem the speed of 90Mbps+ are consistent over several days (I haven't tested longer).
The drop in speed only happens when connecting through the AEBS, no matter if I'm connected wirelessly or directly.
My next test will be to see whether powercycling only the AEBS resets the speed the way powercylcing the modem does.
Any thoughts? I would rather not have to restart my connection everytime I go to use it.

I have a Satellite C855-55107 laptop. It had been working fine, and one day starting this problem: When booting up, it would bring the desktop screen up, and would not let me get to the sign in screen. I went to the Troubleshooting Help here and performed a power cycle. Now, it won't even boot up. The power is working fine. What do I need to do, and what do you think caused the original problem?

Hi! bec! I don't run W8. You could have picked up a Virus ect. Hard to really tell. There will be better replies during the week. I would restore back to factory. If you were infected, that should cure that problem. You could also make a system repair disk and try to boot with it. It can be made with any computer that is running W8. If you don't have that option, I guess it's back to factory.
