HDMI switching with YV box - help?

I am now in the unfortunate position of having a TV with only one HDMI input but currently have two boxes (YouView and NowTV) that output HDMI. The one scart input is used by the DVD player and I'm aware of scart-switch problems where YV boxes are concerned too.
I bought a Duronics HDMI auto-switcher, it has three inputs and one output. I connected it up and the NowTV box displayed its bouncing logo fine. I switched on the YV box and got a pink screen. I tried unplugging the NowTV box from the mains, unplugging the HDMI lead etc. Cycling through the inputs using the manual switch - still the same pink screen, turned box on-off etc.
Has anyone managed to use a HDMI switcher and if so how or which one and if it does work, does it always work without a problem?
For info: I have a BT supplied box (the first one they sent out, Humax ..), power set to the quicker starting one (eco-mode: Low??)

I use a Thor combined HDMI/Optical switch with the YV box with no problem. Occasionally see a flash of pink when it switches then it settles down.
Does this happen if you switch first before turning on the YV box (does your auto-switcher let you manually override to do this)?
Have you re-tried plugging the HDMI lead direct into the TV as it maybe just a co-incidence this started happening when you introduced the switch?
One other thing I suggest you try is swapping the HDMI leads between the YV box and the Now TV device.

  • HDMI switch with Apple TV

    What HDMI switch is recommended for use with Apple TV 2?

    Same problem. I can't find any switch that will do the automatic switching. Neither my Apple TV nor my Samsung Blu-Ray player will work. My vision is to be able to instantly turn on my Apple TV from my phone (using remote app), from anywhere in my house and have it override the TV. Then when I put the ATV to sleep, the cable would come back on. Although the units put out a small amount of power when "off", it seems that a truly smart switch could sense the difference between that and actual video being output from the unit.

    Hello,
    I want to write a program which says grades from numbers.For example;

    AA =94 - 100
    BA =89 - 93
    BB =84 - 88
    CB =79 - 83
    CC =74 - 78
    FF =0-73

    }But i cant compile it.Where am i making mistake?How can i use double command with this program?I have to do this with using double and switch commands.

    ^but i couldn't solve my problem,i have to use double command and it says "required:int"This is telling you that what goes inside the parentheses in switch(...) must be an int. So you need to either supply an int value, or cast the value that you do supply.

  • Replacing 3COM 4500 switches with SG300-52 - help

    I'm replacing 2 3COM 4500 Swithes with the SG300-52 Cisco switch. We have 3 VLANs, 10, 20, 100. The switch is set for Layer 3 and I have setup DHCP relay. I was hoping someone might know what settings i should set on the Cisco for the following setups:
    3COM Setup
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1
    port link-type hybrid
    port hybrid vlan 10 tagged
    port hybrid vlan 1 20 100 untagged
    port hybrid pvid vlan 100
    My Cisco Translation
    interface gigabitethernet1
    switchport mode general
    switchport general allowed vlan add 10 tagged
    switchport general allowed vlan add 20,100 untagged
    switchport general pvid 100
    exit
    and one other example i'm curious if i set right..
    3COM Setup
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/48
    port link-type trunk
    port trunk permit vlan all
    port trunk pvid vlan 100
    My Cisco Translation
    interface gigabitethernet51
    switchport trunk allowed vlan add 10,20
    switchport trunk native vlan 100
    exit
    Trying these settings I am not able to get any devices to work on the switch so i'm guessing i have something not setup correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
    THanks,
    Chris

    Chris,
    Compared to your 3com switches yes the commands you currently ran are comparable. The reason it’s not working is a bigger question and we need a complete picture. First we need a topology(detailed as possible) of your network and details on how things need to work/setup? Then we can set up accordingly to the devices on your network. For quicker resolution call into the SBSC @ 1-866-606-18666 and open a support case .
    Thanks,

  • HDMI switch issues

    I have problems connecting new Apple TV through an HDMI switch (with optical audio breakout to a non-HDMI receiver) It works fine going straight to TV but with the switch it shows for a minute and then drops out. Other HDMI sources including PS3 hooked up to this switch work just fine. The TV is a 2005 model year 56" Samsung DLP (720p & 1080i / no 1080p).

    Oops, I tried a different port on the switch and it works so apparently my switch just has a bad port. All is good (with the Apple TV at least).

    I bought a HDMI switch and with both cable box and dvd plugged in, the Dvd player works fine but the X1 DVR box doesn't work at all, only a bright orange screen comes up, not even a messge that says no signal. Any suggestions?

  • HDMI Switch Help please!!

    Hi everyone! So I am not tech savvy AT ALL and received Apple TV as a gift. I'm very anxious to set it up - but it's not going well. Any help would be appreciated
    I have a LCD Panasonic VIera with 1 HDMI input that goes directly to my Time Warner DVD (also only 1 HDMI). I have no component cables so it's just that cord that provides me with my lovely time warner tv.
    SO I bought a 3 input hdmi switch and went from the output directly to TV and then out my Time warner & Apple TV in the inputs. But it doesn't work.
    My cable is on input 3 and the only thing it did do was assign Apple TV to that input (so that my cable was non-existent)
    What am I doing wrong!! Thank you - and happy thanksgiving!!
    Any ideas?

    Put your cable into the HDMI switch input #1 and AppleTV on #2 or 3. Since the ATV is always on (almost) it will block your cable signal if you connect the cable to #1. With the ATV plug into #3 the signal will get through to your TV as long as your cable box is off. Once you turn the cable box on, it gets priority to the TV through the HDMI switch since it's in the #1 socket. With the cable box off, the AppleTV in #3 can get through to the TV.

  • Aspect ratio issues with SD box and no help from Verizon

    I just renewed my  2 year contract which included a free box but a billing screwup resulted in repeated charges for the box. A CS rep credited the account and said I had the wrong box and she would send out a new one.
    i had a 7100 Motorola HD box. I have an older television set (that cannot control aspect ratio) and I have never had HD service but this was the box I was sent by Verizon as part of my contract. Why they felt it had to be changed I don't know, but ..... the box they sent was a 2500 SD box which does not give me an acceptable picture.
    It's totally random. Some channels are 16:9. Some are overzoomed 4:3. The FIOS channel bar at the bottom is partially off the screen and the content is clipped around the edges. Commercials are totally random in size and appearance.
    The # key on the remote does not work. There is no option in Settings to change the aspect ratio.
    CS was ZERO help. They concluded that I had to either deal with the scattershot image sizes and clipped image content or go buy another television. SERIOUSLY VERIZON?
    I couldn't get an answer as to why the box I was sent by Verizon as part of my original contract that provided a perfectly acceptable image had to be replaced with a box that doesn't provide squat.  I have had Verizon service for  approximately 7 years with this same television and this is the first time I've been given a box that can't produce an acceptable image and a remote that can't resize. So why now?
    This smells like a bait and switch, or an attempt to get customers to pay for an upgraded box for a service they don't want  just to get an acceptable picture.  I live in an urban area and there is plenty of older equipment in these homes. So are customers like myself just being told even though you pay a significant amount of money for a Triple Play you are only getting 2 parts of the service?
    I find it hard to believe there isn't some way to make the box or the remote change the image size. Can anyone help?

    why do so many topics go to private section?  we need to see how it's responded to in case we have the same problem..
    but yes, our 2500 sd box, basically the 4:3 standard non HD box broadcasts to fit a 4:3 TV.. now some channels will have the black bars on top and bottom to accommodate the 16:9 aspect ratio..  you'll notice this if you run the 2500 box on a flat screen.. if you have it in 16:9 ratio on a flat screen it looks stretched.. the only way to watch regularly is in 4:3 mode.. which basically has the image with bars on all sides.. or you can zoom it and lose a portion of the image.. but it's because the box thinks you're using a 4:3 sd tv so the boxes appear on top and bottom so it can still fit the wider image it's filmed in.. so with flat screens you need the HD box i guess..  unless there is something i'm missing but there isn't a setting that i can find to change how the box exports the image for a flat screen or 4:3.   I know the HD boxes have an 'SD Override' option.. which i guess tells the box you're not using a 4:3 tv anymore.. but that option is not on the 2500 SD box.. believe me i looked..  but this is all in reverse for your issue anyhow as you're having trouble with the SD box on an SD TV...  which yeah, if you run SD the quality of picture is not as good as the HD programming.. so please let us know what they say to do for you.

  • HDMI switching: is ATv3 ok with it?

    I currently have a gen 1 - 160. I tried running it HDMI out through my Denon reciver that uses HDMI switching, but the ATv was not liking it. I had to use the gen 1's audio out (or optical) to the receiver and use the HDMI 2 port on the TV in order to have things working without issues. I am wondering it the issues has been corrected with the ATv3? I am thinking it wont be so bad, since the unit has no drive, and that may have been causing the issues I was having.
    Thanks in advance for the help!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    If there is a problem switching, it is usually the switch. The Apple TV 1 worked with many switches and home theatre systems. The Apple TV 2/3 does as well.

  • Problems with uVerse DVR connected to a network switch and 1x3 HDMI switch

    So that I can connect multiple devices (Apple TV & BluRay player), I've connected my uVerse DVR to a network switch with IP Quality of Service function.  Is it known whether or not this will cause problems?  I am having problems, but see next question for probable cause. I have also connected my HD TV to a 1x3 HDMI switch output, with inputs from the uVerse DVR, Apple TV, & BluRay player.  This clearly has caused problems because the DVR goes through the power on sequence almost everytime the TV is turned on, I have intermittent problems with the HDMI switch displaying video on the TV, and on several occassions, shows scheduled for recording haven't recorded at all or only partially recorded.

    I've been having problems with this for months especially with the GigaPower rollout and broke down and decided to resort to some network engineering tactics versus calling out AT&T Techs. The Techs are good at their job but they are only knowledgeable about the hardware aspect but are dumb founded on this one and it's not their job to know.  To the point of using a switch next to the DVR and this counts truly for all set top boxes via Ethernet they need to be physically seperated wires. Well, unless you want to pay someone to put an extra Ethernet drop next to each wired set-top box or DVR this isn't feasible so options are deal with it or spend $20 more dollars on a switch that supports 802.1q trunking which makes two 'virtual' independent ethernet cables over one line.  If you can do it great otherwise this takes a higher than average knowledge of basic networking.   A basic setup would be: + Get two switches - Netgear GS108T or GS108E I've found does the job well. + Enable 802.1q advanced VLANs+ Make two additional vlans 2 and 3 (1 is the native VLAN)+ Mark a port as tagged 'T' for the trunk port to the other switch for VLANS 1,2,3 (I used port 8)+ Assign VLAN 2 and mark as untagged for ports 2-7 - this is for data traffic+ Assign VLAN 3 and mark as untagged for port 8 only - this is for video multi-cast traffic+ ***DISABLE*** MULTI-CAST IGMP SNOPING otherwise IPTV won't work. On the back of the Uvserse router, take an Ethernet wire and plug into port 8 and take an Ethernet cable and plug into port 7.  This does not create a loop though sounds like it, we've created two unique layer 2 networks.  Now configure the second Netgear switch (or switch of your choosing...) the same exact way but plug your DVR into port '8' and all your data stuff XBox, whatever... into ports 2-7. Whalla, you've eliminating multi-cast flooding and DVR traffic is independent.  Ever since I started doing this I increased the speed throughput from 10 MB/s or to never working to a full reliable gigabit speed or respectibly whatever UVerse service you get.

  • Apple TV doesn't work with HDMI Switch

    Apple TV doesn't seem to work with my HDMI Switch. Tried every combination of cables. Tried switching all devices on and off at different times. Googled to see if anyone else has tried a switcher with Apple TV. All I know is: PlayStation 3 works just fine running through the switcher. Apple TV doesn't work at all with the switcher, only when plugged directly into the TV.
    I only have one HDMI port on my Samsung HDTV and two HDMI devices (PlayStation 3, Apple TV). All my component slots are full and I already have a component switcher that's full, too. So HDMI is the only option for me.
    Any ideas? Switcher claims to support HDCP... and it does do HD resolutions (PS3 displaying in 720p).

    I use this 5x1 switch from Monoprice and it works fine, switching 3 devices, which are then routed through my AV receiver's switch... Despite the convoluted hookup, I have not had HDCP handshake issues.

    The nice thing about this switch is:
    1. It works: no discernable loss in quality, switches relatively quickly, etc.
    2. It's cheaper than many others, like Gefen, or even the Xtrememac (which is 4x1)
    3. The remote has discrete buttons for each input, which is very helpful when setting up a universal remote like my Harmony 880. I can't tell from the Xtrememac picture if it's a direct input, or if you can only cycle through the inputs...
    Good luck!

  • Problems with HDMI switching

    I am having problems getting HDMI signals to come through on the receiver and TV. If the home theater system has been off for several hours, I am finding that when I use the Harmony 700 remote and select the watch TV option, the TV is displaying 'Weak or No Signal' and the receiver is displaying 'no signal.' I have to turn everything off and back on again up to six times before I can finally watch TV. I have to do the same thing if I want to watch a blu-ray movie.
    When I previously had an all HDMI connection (as I do now after the Geek Squad tech changed the setup), I had this problem. I contacted my Cable company and a tech came out and informed me that beacuse of software updates on the boxes, I had to run the HDMI cable from the box direclty to the TV and then had to use red/white RCA cables for the audio. According to the cable tech, this is a standard setup among all cable companies.
    I don't know what the problem is with the HDMI signal not getting to the receiver or TV from the blu-ray player, but I used to not have this issue until after the Geek Squad tech changed everything,
    I'd like to identify if it's the TV or the receiver that is having problems with the HDMI switching.

    The cable tech is wrong.
    What kind of reciever is it? There are several recievers that have had issues with their HDMI boards that would cause this. Geek squad may just be a coincidence.

  • How do I use an HDMI switch to my TV as a display with the 2011 Mac Mini?

    AppleTV, PS3, DirecTV all work with the switch but the Mac Mini gives no picture or sound.

    What TV and what type of input does it support...?
    For an HDMI compatible TV, you'll need a > Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support - Apple Store (U.S.) plugged into the Thunderbolt/Mini Display port and a good HDMI cable.
    For other types of connections and connection methods, please specify the connection that your TV supports.

  • Mac mini DVI through AV Reciever with hdmi switching

    I have a Harman Kardon AVR445 receiver which had the ability to switch between two hdmi inputs and send hdmi to my television (Viewsonic 27" LCD). I plugged in my mac mini (Intel Core Duo) using a DVI-hdmi cable and my cable box to my receiver. Everything worked great. I could switch between the computer and cable box and the picture was great on the tv.
    Now, when I shut of the receiver and later turn it back on, I have a problem. The cable box still works fine. But when i switch to the hdmi input used by the mac mini, there is no signal. The only way I can get it back is to put the mini into sleep (via the power switch or the Front Row remote) and then wake it up again.
    I'm trying to get some information from Harman Kardon on what happens to the hdmi inputs at power down (standby actually) but so far, the tech representative has only stated the get "shut down".
    I've even tried using the program SwitchResX to always keep the display at 1024x768 in case the computer is switching to an incompatible mode but I have not had any luck here.
    Does anyone have any idea what could be happening to this signal lines that would cause the mac mini to stop outputing it's display? And why won't it return when the receiver is turned on again?
    Thanks
    Mac Mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    I imagine you could spend a lot of time trying to debug this while getting no closer to a fix. If you really want this to work, what you might consider investing in is a Gefen DVI Detective.
    http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1378
    In spite of the typo in the first line on Gefen's website, what the DVI Detective does is store a monitor's EDID (not the computer's EDID as it says on the website; computers don't have any EDID. Monitors do.) and it will then "spoof" the monitor so that when the Detective is attached to the mini's DVI output, the mini will think there is always a monitor attached and will never get confused by an HDMI switch or a sleeping receiver or whatever it is that is causing the mini to lose track of your 27" TV. You will be able to set the mini to the output you desire and from the mini's point of view it will be as though the monitor never gets disconnected so it will constantly output the same format/timing. End of problem.

  • ATV incompatible with Iogear HDMI switch?

    When I plug ATV into an Iogear 4 HDMI switch feeding a Samsung DLP display, no signal gets to the TV.
    When I plug ATV directly into the HDMI port on the display, the signal is fine.
    Any others with this problem? Any solutions?

    Thanks for the heads up, I would have bought just any HDMI Switch.
    I checked around a bit and found this review:

    Seems like it's reasonably priced, too.
