Headers are un-editable on imported .doc file.

I have a couple of documents that I would like to edit using Pages. They were originally created in MS Word. When I open the files the Header on the file is not selectable or editable. The rest of the document works fine but it is like the header is part of a background layer that is not editable so the document looks bad.

What you have is a common malfunction when Importing (Opening) Word Documents in Pages. As far as I know it's random in the sense that we don't know what causes it and it doesn't happen every time.

  • Why are missing items when import pst files to Outlook 2011 for mac?

    Hello.
After installing Office 2011 for Mac I configured Outlook and it was allright.
But when I tried to import a pst file from the old laptop who has Office 2007, I found that in the Outlook 2011 Inbox I have only ~60% items comparative with the Outlook 2007 Inbox.
From Microsoft Office forums I've got an answer that there are indeed some reports with missing items when import pst in Outlook 2011 but the solution they gave me (create folders in Inbox before import) doesn't work.
Do you know something about this kind of problems?
Is it a feature in Outlook 2011 which automaticaly select/delete/combine items based on the similarity between them or based something else?
Have you an ideea how to finally use this macbook and in the same time all my old emails?
    Thanks.

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for this-yes, eventually, I do send/receive fine, once I've poppedd my passwords in.
I think you are right in that BT seem to be having unique server/login issues...at least this is what I've read elsewhere too.
Iroonically, this AM I opened my new Mac and have *not* been asked for passwords so perhaps the changes I made in the settings yesterday (keychain reset in Mac) and also changing it from smtp.....to mail.btinternet.com solved the issue...who knows? All I know is this last week I've nearly lost the will to live on more than one occasion, from the transition from PC Windows Live Mail to Outlook for Mac.

  • How to use iWeb to continue editing newly imported html files?

I've reinstalled my Mac installation without backing up the files for my site. Is there anyway I can download the files of the server and then make them editable in iWeb?

No. iWeb has no import facility, so if you don't have your domain.sites file then you will have to re-build your site from scratch.
Also, before posting, search the forum - a post on exactly the same topic as this has just been answered directly above.

  • Importing sound files in folders

I want to import a number of sound files organized into folders to an iPod. No, they are not commercially recorded songs and no, they do not have any information in the "album" or "artist" field. They have names that do not have a lot of meaning in plain English.
I would like to get them onto this iPod organized into the folders they are in. It would be a nightmare to try to reorganize them into "playlists" if they were all scrambled in the iTunes library and difficult for me to use from the iPod if they were not organized into the folders they are in on the hard drive. Is there some way I can do this?
I seem to have recollections of using iTunes years ago where I could drag a folder into the playlist areas and it would import the files and keep them in that playlist. Is this my imagination? Would Apple have removed functionality from iTunes?
What happens if folders are directly in the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes library?
    --Kenoli

This is great. Just what I wanted, though it is not working for me. Also, when I drag a sound file into the library, it does not import it, though it will import it if I drag it to the title bar at the top of the library or into a playlist.
Applecare thinks my application may be screwed up and wants me to re-install it. I'll try that. Incidentally, they didn't know you could do what you just told me. My sense when I call them is that they don't really know what they are talking about. In the past, I had much better experiences with Applecare.
I have been using another application than iPhoto for photos that let's me organize my photos in natural folders and adds tags to the graphic files instead of in a proprietary file so they remain completely independent of the application. Do you know if there is an application for iTunes that lets me put stuff directly on an iPod in a way it can be played without going through iTunes?
ITunes seems to be primarily a front end for the Apple Store and DRM control. I'm not even dealing with commercial music files and it all seems very baroque.

  • Undocumented editing on import

    Hi, All.
I have a student whose images are being edited on import.  She does not have any import filters active (i.e. nothing in "Apply During Import") and the History panel reports only the import and date. But basic adjustments are being made to the images (e.g. Exposure, Contrast, etc.)
I cannot figure out how to disable this editing.
She is using Lightroom 5, a Nikon D3100 camera shooting RAW, and is importing directly into Lightroom from the card.

  • How to import MXF files to Final Cut Pro with smooth editing

Summary: Follow this tutorial to learn how to import and edit MXF files in Final Cut Pro by converting MTS to FCP native format.
If you have a Panasonic P2, Canon XF or Sony XDCAM series camcorder,
you may be familiar with Material eXchange Format (MXF). Though MXF is a
great video format to record high-definition videos, it is not easy to
use in that they are not natively supported by most NLE systems like
Final Cut Pro. In order to import MXF to FCP for editing, the easy workaround is to transcode MXF files to FCP compatible video formats.
Along with some help from a top MXF Converter, it can be done. To
help those who wanna edit MXF files in FCP without problems, here I
share with you a simple guide on how to convert MXF files to edit in
Final Cut Pro 6/7 or FCP X.
First of all, downloading the App- Brorsoft MXF Converter for Mac
Overall, the program is a professional yet easy-to-use MXF Converter
on Mac (Mavericks included) which can not only convert XF100, Canon
C300, XF105 and XF305, Panasonic P2 recorded MXF files, but also provide
simple video editing functions for you. The MXF to FCP Converter not
only can convert MXF to ProRes for FCP, but also can transcode MXF
videos for editing in Avid MC, Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, FCE, etc.
Just download it and follow the tutorial below to get the work done.
Transcoding (P2) MXF files to ProRes for Final Cut Pro 6/7/X
    1. Import MXF files to the converter
Launch the best MXF to FCP Converter, and then click the “add files” button to browse and import MXF videos from your camcorder or hard drive.
    2. Select FCP editable format
Click the Format bar, and move mouse cursor to choose “Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)” as output format.
    Tips:
    a. Settings- click to set video
    resolution(1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480), bitrate (from 1Mbps to
    20Mbps), frame rate (24p/30p)
    b. Editor (next to “Add” icon)- click to set deinterlace, trim, crop, add effect, attach subtitles, etc
    3. Start transcoding MXF video to FCP
Click “Convert” button to start converting MXF files to Apple ProRes

  • Looking for a program that can handel import and export of palm doc files

I am looking for a program that can handel the import and export of palm doc Files that can convert them to to either txt or RTF files for Vista 32, running Palm Desktop 7.1.
Could anyone give me a few suggestions of any plug-ins that would be good me?

    Post relates to: Palm IIIxe
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Ok, you need to clean uninstall Palm desktop 6.2. Install Palm desktop 4.1.4 and download and install documents to go version 6.
Here are the clean uninstall instructioins for Vista.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer.
Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
    C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
    PalmOne
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
*Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
    hide hidden files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. Use the username that is on the handheld.

  • Problem with "Edit in Photoshop" and Lightroom 2.1 failing to import new file

I am a new user to Lightroom, so I won't be surprised if the problem is at the dull end of the keyboard...
I am working with Lightroom 2.1 (still in my 30-day free trial), Photoshop CS3 with ACR 4.6, on Windows XP (fully updated). My image files are mostly .cr2 files (canon raw).
When I "edit with photoshop" in Lightroom, it fires up Photoshop and brings the file up for edit as expected. Photoshop shows the file name as something like _MG_2326.CR2, as (I presume) expected. When I'm done editing in Photoshop, and I save the file, Lightroom brings up a message "The file could not be imported because it could not be read." and "It may be an incompatible format." on a second line.
If I synchronize the folder in Lightroom it picks up the save file without issue (though its not automatically stacked with the original).
I have tried messing around with the different options in the preferences "external editing" tab -- file format, color space and bit depth (I can't imagine resolution would matter). No joy there.
I have also tried setting photoshop up as the additional external editor and if I do that it works correctly. However, in this case, it makes a copy of the file before opening photoshop which slows things down a little.
Is this a problem that anybody else has seen before? Any solutions or work-arounds?
    Thanks,
    Doug

I'm back trying to sort this problem out (got distracted for a couple of days by trying to get my monitor calibrated).
Rearranging the folder structure didn't help. But I now have a better organized catalog, so that's ok :)
What I did find is that if I import files into lightroom using the "file/import photos from device", then I can edit them normally afterwards (that is, when I save the file in photoshop cs3, the new file gets picked up correctly by lightroom and gets correctly stacked with the original). This is true even if the new files get added into the same directory structure that I'm having troubles with.
So it looks like the directory structure is a red herring. It looks like the problem is in the catalog, with the way that lightroom originally imported my files. I created my original catalog by allowing lightroom to read my elements 6 catalog.
It seems that I have this edit problem with all catalog entries that were imported from elements 6, but I don't have any problem with catalog entries that lightroom brings in directly (either through "import photos from device" or by adding a new folder to the lightroom catalog).
So right now it looks like there is a problem with the elements catalog conversion.
Is this a problem that anybody else has seen? Any suggestions for getting around it?

  • Unable to Edit Imported Jpeg files.

I'm currently using iPhoto 9.6 and OS 10.10.   I have created jpg stills from .mov projects using QT Pro and imported them successfully into a previous version of iPhoto where I was able to crop them and make rudimentary color and exposure adjustments.  With the new iPhoto 9.6 I cannot.  I get an error message "Image Cannot Be Edited.  The original format is not supported."
So I am assuming the only way to edit these imported jpegs is to open them in Lightroom or Photoshop make my adjustments and then attempt to re-import them into iPhoto or maybe just stop using iPhoto all together for this kind of file?

Yes "master" copies of files - those located in the iPhoto >>package contents >> Masters folder organized by import date - once they have been edited from within iPhoto (exposure corrections, cropping, straightening, etc) become the master copies.
Bewilderingly vague. They are the masters. They are never edited. The photos are edited and the results recorded in the SQL database. The never "become the Master copies". They are the Masters and never become anything.
To prove this I have selected a master file from with this directory and created a copy of it on the desktop where I gave it a new name, then re-imported it to iPhoto and re-opened it there.  It is a virtual clone of the original edited file - edited from within iPhoto save for its name - an "edited master".
If you made a copy of a Master then it's not a virtual clone it's an actual clone. "It is a virtual clone of the original edited file" Huh? What's an "original edited file"? It's a Master or something else? Which is it? There is no concept in iPhoto of 'edited Master'. There are Masters. That's the file as imported from your camera. It is never edited. End of story.
Subsequently from within iPhoto I have chosen the original photo - the one that had been modified to begin with - and reverted this file to its original version.  So then I had two masters of the same shot - one edited and one in its originally imported state.  Why did I do this (and originate this post)?
No you didn't. You had two masters to begin with and thereafter you had two masters at the end. When you reverted to original all you did was delete the edit decisions for the database and destroy a preview. In no case was the Master touched.
The terminology is important because it explains how the app works. You're conflating photos (which are edited in iPhoto) with files (which are never edited in iPhoto), all photo edits are virtual until baked in on export. That's why the concept and the term Master is important. Edited Master means nothing, Master of an Edited Photo does, but that's a different thing.
Because I could not re-edit or export these affected photos unless I first re-imported them to iPhoto by either locating the original files from storage media or making copies of them from iPhoto's package contents>>masters folder as above and importing them back into the iPhoto library.  Once I did this - there were a lot of these affected files - I could edit and export to my heart's content.  Remember, these files were modified from within earlier versions iPhoto itself.  Yes, some files had been converted to jpegs from original PICT exports out QT Pro using Photoshop Elements.
Because your database was corrupted. It has nothing to do with Masters/Versions or anything else. It was broken.
How do I explain this apparent corruption of the iPhoto library database?  Disclaimers to the contrary, I put the onus on having to convert the db every time there is an app iteration which is sometimes coupled with an OS upgrade (like with Yosemite).  I suspect that the file metadata is susceptible to corruption during these upgrades.  It is the only variable in an otherwise static and stable environment that could possibly result in library corruption short of hardware failure.
That's one possibility. Here are some more: anytime the app is interrupted writing to the database - by a crash, hang or even a power surge, bad blocks on a disk - there are many possibilities..
And again, there is no need to convert the db "every time there is an app iteration". There are updates when it is not necessary. And, as I keep on saying, OS upgrades make no difference. It's app upgrades only.

  • Imported PSD Files Are Being Erroneously Resized in Captivate 4

I am trying to import PSD files to use in my Captivate 4 project. I verified that the PSD image size is 800 x 600, and my Captivate project dimensions are the same 800 x 600. But when the import process completes, the layers are erroneously resized to smaller dimensions. I have tried the same thing on two separate installations of Captivate 4 on two separate PC's with the same results.
Here is a screenshot of the PSD file in Photoshop (image size = 800 x 600):
Now here is a screenshot of what the imported PSD file looks like in the Captivate project (screen size set to 800 x 600):
When I do the import, I'm selecting: File --> Import --> Photoshop File..., then I select the "As Layers" option, and do not check the box next to "Scale according to stage size" (I have tried using this option as well with the same results, although I don't believe I should have to rescale when the PSD image size and Captivate project size are the same.)
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for such a prompt reply...the single .psd file with many layers is imported using:
    Import Kind: Composition
Layer Options: Editable Layer Styles; Life Photoshop 3D (although there are no 3D layers in the .psd...so I'm unsure if this default is needed?)
Oh!!  Never mind...I just tried Import Kind: Composition -- Cropped Layers and the layers were not cropped...kind of counter-intuitive since I would have thought "Cropped Layers" would crop the layers rather than the other way around.
Thanks for your help...if you just reply to this post I'll mark your reply as the answer, thanks for suggesting the direction to look for a solution, cheers!

  • Importing a .doc file into RH7 using Word 2010?

They recently upgraded me to Office 2010 here and now I can't import word files (even the older .doc style for Word 97/2003) into RH HTML. I get this error message:

I'm assuming this is because RH 7 doesn't support Office 2010? Are there workarounds for this?

Take a look at the Importing topics on my site as the HTML of the topics created may need some cleaning up.
For the benefit of anyone else, yes you do need a compatible version of Word to import a document that is in .DOC format.
