Headset & comboport - test splitter

I have a thinkpad 03192CG with comboport and a headset that ends in separate 3,5 mm plugs for headset-speakers and headset-micro.
I ordered a splitter cable and I want to test it.
How can I switch off the internal micro? (I even couldn't locate it ... if it is behind the small hole next to the built-in webcam it doesn't help to cover the hole...)
How can I verify which device (internal micro or comboport attached micro) provides the audio input?
(If I plug in the headset using the splitter cable there will be an ambiguity concerning the micro! I want to make sure that I do not continue to talk via built-in micro and listen via headset despite the splitter cable. Moreover I would like to make sure that the built-in micro does not contribute noise to to the VOIP!)

Hi
if you attach your headset to thinkpad it will mute the internal microphone and speakers and start using headset.Lik eif you connect headset to TV/HiFi system.
Was that the question about?

  • Yoga 13 - Headset jack with splitter adapter doesn't recognize microphone

    Hi,
I'm trying to use my LifeChat LX 2000 headset with the Yoga 13's combi jack. The LX2000 has separate plugs for mic and headphone. I bought a standard adapter to convert this into the required combi jack, but only the headphones work. The mic is not recognized. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the conexant driver and replaced the adapter with a new one. No change.
The headset works on other computers with split jacks.
    Any thoughts?
I know that there is the option of USB headsets, but since I already own the LX2000 and would prefer to not block another precious USB slot, I'd prefer using the available combi jack - as that's what the jack should be there for...
    Thanks,
    Jan

Thanks, XMB. This is very helpful information. Can't believe that even such a little item as a headset jack with three contacts has an universal industry standard...
I'll see if I can find an adapter that's wired for Apple standards, although it surprises me that Lenovo would choose the Apple method if most other PC's use another standard.
So can you confirm that the wiring diagram in below link is correct for the Apple vs Nokia wiring?
    http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/5393-S2-stock-headset-in-iphone-standard
Is there any documentation in the Yoga technical specs that allows to identify which wiring is used in the machine? I know you mentioned it uses the Apple standard, but it would be nice to know that this is mentioned in some documentation officially.
    Thanks

  • D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter: connecting to headsets or not???

    Hi there!
I want to use a headset with my G5, using a BT USB adapter. Mine doesn't work, so I'm thinking - unhappily - of buying a D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter.
But: in the Apple Store, they say it does not work with headsets!!!
On the other side, people in the board here are claiming that it works, if you apply the firmware updater.
Which one is right??? I can hardly belive that Apple using untrue negatif customer feedback as a marketing strategie... so I'm a bit confused.
==>>> I would like to hear from people who are using the D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter if they are able to connect to a headset or not (even people not having a headset can test this, just run the BT hardware wizard, selecting headset, and see if there is the error or not).
    Thanks a lot.
    Gilbert

Using a headset needs several steps even needed if you have the latest computer or Mac OS X release. Please make sure to follow them in order.
Download the Apple Bluetooth Firmware Updater
    Install it
Launch it from Applications > Utilities > Bluetooth Updater
Apply it to your adapter (takes very long).
Start the Apple Bluetooth Assistant and select Headset. Do not use anything else!
Make your headset Bluetooth visible. Look up the manual of your headset how to do that.
Now select the headset in System Preferences > Sound.
In most cases step 3 is missed. You have to start the already installed updater yourself (do not ask me why).

  • Help: Cant Get my HeadSet to Work

    Hi Guys
Need help urgently here. Just bought 2 Internet Headsets. I am using:
MSI 6566 mainboard, 845E Max 478 Socket.  Win XP PRo. I cant seem to get the headset connected to this mainboard to work.
The other one I connected to my laptop. It is working fine. I've interchanged the headsets and tested both are working fine.
    TESTS Done:
    1. mainboard drivers are updated
    2. interchange of headsets. Both r working.
    3. sounds and audio device in Control Panel tested fine. I can see the meter running when i speak into my headset. I can even hear the playback. so that means the mainboard recognizes this.
However when i log on to the net and start up my Messenger, i just cant hear the other guy talking, whereas when i speak the other guy can hear me. I am running a Home LAN now.
This doenst makes sense. Any other settings i shoudl take note:?????

Dont think it's my headsets are both sets are testd successfully on my laptop.
I've even make sure the audio and sound settings  in Control Panle are identical on my laptop and PC.
The funny thing is that I tested the hardware successfully also on my PC. It can receive my voice and playback as well BUT, I just CANT talk and hear anything when I log on to my messenger whereas the other person can hear me clearly.

  • Recommend headset for IP communicator

Just doing some research and wondering if there is a choice set up that everyone uses? Looking for a usb based wireless headset for softphone. Let me know if there is a tried and true combo.

    Hi Mike,
    Just to add to Greg's good info;
About Choosing Headsets and Handsets for Cisco IP Communicator
Even though internal testing of third-party headsets and handsets for IP Communicator has been performed, Cisco does not certify or support products from headset and handset vendors. Because of the inherent environmental and hardware inconsistencies in the locations in which IP Communicator is deployed, there is no one best solution that is optimal for all environments. Cisco recommends that customers test the headsets and handsets that work best in their environment before deploying a large number of units in their network.
The primary reason that support of a headset or handset would be inappropriate for an installation is the potential for an audible hum, either a hum heard by the remote party, or by both the remote party and the IP Communicator user. Causes for the hum range from electrical lights near the PC to the PC power source itself. In some cases, a hum experienced by a user using an audio device that is plugged directly into the PC USB port may be reduced or eliminated by using a powered USB hub.
In some instances, the mechanics or electronics of various headsets can cause remote parties to hear their own voices echo back when they speak to IP Communicator users. The IP Communicator user will not be aware of the echo.
Finally, some analog headsets do not match the electrical characteristics for which some soundcards are designed. The microphones on such headsets are frequently too sensitive, even when the input levels in IP Communicator are reduced to their lowest values; the voices of users on such headsets will sound distorted to remote parties.
It is important to ask IP Communicator users whether a particular headset sounds good to them. In addition, remote parties should be queried as to the reception from IP Communicator when using a particular headset.
Testing performed in Cisco labs has shown that the Plantronics DSP 300 and Plantronics DSP 400 have performed well with IP Communicator, but it remains the customer's responsibility to test the headsets in their environment.

  • BAD BAD pr

Ok where to start, well let me say this I have the Audio 2 Z5 and am not at all in anyway a liker of this, I was doing fine with my old 20 SC from CL. But I jsut bought a new PC, 3.4 P4 with 2 G RAM and a Radeon 800XL video card, I install this sound card and i have multiple probs
. While using either roger Wilco or AVC I never know if my headset will work. I am using a USB headset and tried my old regular jack headset and both get same probs. Voice will work for a few minutes and then over time like 3 or 4 minutes people hear my voice get quiet and distant and then totally fade away. I am able to hear them fine. During setup of both of these proggies, with the USB headset I can choose (Wave or Direct) to connect to the sound card or onboard , tried both of these and same prob still any ideas
    2. At times I get sound out of my speakers and then if I hook up headphones it choses where the sound will come from one min it is coming from the speakers and the next the headset, this happens in all proggies even when not using voice clients. Now since this card isnt the cheapest on the market not the most expensi've, but still I would like to have better tresults, my old PC with the 20 dollar card was easy, install it and then hook up he headphones,
    3. One last thing, in the old card it was easy to have headset and speakers at same time, not a prob just turn down the speakers when kids in bed and put on headphones, simple enough no add on stuff jsut hook it up, so why in the world with a more advanced and expensi've SC cant you do the same, you either have to get a splitter or try using 2 different sound sources, RIDICULOUS shouldnt be that way.
i ahve tried mulitple setting on craeti've tried useing headset for testing and 2/2. or even 4/4. and none of these settings helped in anyway,
Anyway these are my probs and I hope someone can help me, The sound on ths card is awesome and I like tha part of it but just have a few bugs to work out first. Right now I have 2 desk speakers and one sub but I should be getting a 6. speakers within a week. thanks in advanced for any help.

I think(correct me if i'm wrong)usb headphones work without the soundcard so I think having a better soundcard makes no difference. If your usb headphones are able to use analog too use that.Message Edited by Trevor on 09-25-2005 08:07 AM

  • Microphone keeps crazy sound

Hi i have hp pavilion 15 notebook and i have a problem i'ts about my microphone. It makes crazy sound when i keep it on but when it's muted it doesen't do that sound. My headset is turle beach z11 . my headset is not the problem because my headset works on my sisters computer. What should  I  do and what is the problem. I have windows 8 64.bit. Please help

    Hi Suomalainenlava -
Perhaps it is a sound setting.  You can open the Sound window by typing "sound" from start page.  Select "Sound" from the search results.
    Click on the Recording tab.
Click on your microphone, then click the Properties button.
When the window opens click on the Levels tab.
Make sure that the mute button is not on.  It should look like a blue speaker.  There should not be a red circle with a line through it.
Try raising the volume levels and then click OK.
If that doesn't work, sometimes there can be an issue when more than one application is running at a time (such as talking on a headset while playing an online game).
    Try this:
    Click on the Recording tab.
Click on your microphone, then click the Properties button.
When the window opens click on the Advanced tab.
Remove the check from the box next to "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"
    Click the Apply button.
Then disconnect and reconnect the microphone (headset), and test it.
Another thing you could check, if you haven't already done so, is make sure the audio drivers are up to date.
    To do this:
Type "device manager" from start page.  Select "device manager" from the search results.
Double-click "sound, video and game controllers"
Right-click the name of the sound hardware and select "Update Driver Software"
When the window opens, click "Search automatically for updated driver software" and wait for Windows to update the driver software.
If an update is available, let Windows install the update, and test the microphone.
Let me know how it goes.
    Sincerely,

  • Soundproblem

cant get any sound out of my speakers only the headset,.., tested everything and its rigth cabels and when i run dxdiag and runs a soundtest i get this message
Sound Test Result: Failure at step 9 (User verification of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)
    Can someone help me?

"My mini doesn't play the low frequences as I think it should."
Well, with all due respect, because the iPod's EQ doesn't operate as you think it should, doesn't necessarily make it a problem.
Maybe you just don't like the EQ frequencies on offer.
Neither do I, so I just don't use it.

  • HUGE BUG: Pre stuck on headphone mode! help

I was listening to music on my Pre and had my earplugs plugged then I got call so I unplugged them and now I can only make calls using the speaker mode or a bluetooth headset and the internal speaker doesn't work anymore. During a call if I look at the icons at the bottom of the dial pad screen, the bottom left icon to switch to speaker mode is now a headphone icon and if i press it, it goes to speaker mode. I CAN'T switch back to normal mode. I've restarted my phone several times, tried everything I could , it's been 2 days and still cannot make a normal call!
Please help, and no I don't want to reformat my phone
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Maybe the lubricant works and maybe just plugging and unplugging a few times works. Sprint was aware of the problem but had no solution so processed a replacement phone for me. I solved the problem and cancelled the replacement.
Problem: Phone stuck in "headset plugged in" mode (can't hear anything on phone calls)
Cause: Unplugging headphone while playing music
Solution: Run Audio tests as follows
Select Device Info | Preferences | Tests | Interactive Tests... | Audio.
Select these tests: Phone, Headset jack, Headset microphone.
    Start | Continue
On the Phone test, press Play, answer No, even though you hear the sound
Same on the Record part of this test, Record something, Play it back and answer No, even though you can hear yourself.
On the Headset Jack test, plug in a headset, click No Response
On the Headset Microphone test, click Yes
I'm guessing the calling VoiceMail with a headset plugged in, muting it, then unplugging the headset solution would work to reset it too, but this one worked for me.

  • Nice wired headset for Lumia (tested i-Con and 920...

Received a Sony MDR-EX650-AP wired headset (ear buds) and it works a treat on the Lumia i-Con and Lumia 920, tested for hands free calls and music controls, wired headsets conserve energy by not having to constantly recharge bluetooth headsets and the power draw on the handset for bluetooth connection, wired headset also improves on audio qulaity over Bluetooth.

Mobiles sure aint what they used to be. They get better

Another wired Sony headphone / headset, works with Lumia's mentioned in post, the Sony XBA A2  , and the music / call button's work as they should. Were the button design is a very good design in how to reduce the amount of moving parts, dropping the volume button, and keeping to one button pressed once / twice / three times, would you pay for the additions of a button for stop / play, a button for forward / reverse and buttons for volume, but then all the additional buttons is only going to add to the rising sea levels.
