Headset jack on iPhone

Has anybody found an adapter for the headset jack to accommadate headsets other than the apple earbuds and also to be able to connect to a car stereo mp3 aux port? Apple store doesn't seem to have them presently.

I'd recommend the Sure adapter. It's well worth the money and seems to work with just about anything.
Here's my review of the Sure adapter:

Purchase it from the Apple store:

  • IPhone 3G headset jack not working

    HI,
The headset jack of iPhone 3G suddenly started playing up. I can listen to music without any hiccup, can hear the other person loud and clear but people complain of a lot of static noise at times and at other times they cant hear me at all. I have personally tested this scenario.
Now to troubleshoot I plugged in my Bose headset which works fine. Hence I asked for a replacement of the headset which came with the phone. Inspite of the replacement the problem remained.
Then I checked out the new headset with other phones having 3.5mm jack and it worked fine.
This confirms that the jack is the problem. I tried to clean it with a clip but no dirt came out at all.
I tried blowing some compressed air into it but to no avail.
Now in India the only support available for the iPhone is through the cellular service provider (Airtel in my case). But those guys understand nothing about technology and have not been able to help me out with cleaning the port.
The only option left for me now is to send it to the Apple support center through Airtel which leaves me without my phone for at least 7 days. The rest of the phone works just fine.
Is there any other solution to this problem other than sending it to Apple for either a repair or a replacement?
    Thank You,
P.S: I know that this topic has been discussed but not the exact problem. Appreciate any answer.

Thanks mate. Just found out another weird issue! There are headphone jacks which have 2 rings around the jack and others which have 3. My iphone works well with the ones with 2 rings (infact the new in-ear headphones are the ones with two rings around the jack) but not with the ones with 3. This is true for other 3.5mm jacks. Checked that out as well. Do you think it could be an issue with the 2.2.1 firmware?
    Thanks

    Hi bunjamin,
just go to BlackBerry World, and update all your apps including BBM.

yes, BlackBerry has acknowledged this bug in this article from the public knowledge base:

  • IPhone 3GS headset jack out of spec?

I have been experiencing problems (similar to some of the other posts) when I try to use Apple's standard headset and three other third party headsets with my 3GS.
When I plug the headset in, people can hear me, but I can only hear them faintly. If I pull slightly up on the jack, I become garbled to other people, but I can hear them clearly.
The same headsets that I have tested work on 3G iPhones.
It's my belief that the headset jack in the 3GS is out of spec.
I have gone in to the Apple Store and have received two replacement 3GS phones to verify that it was not something unique to my first phone. I am now convinced that there is a definite hardware issue that needs to be addressed.
Any help that anyone could provide would be appreciated.

Thanks for your suggestion. It's definitely not a volume issue.
I've been using the original iPhone exclusively with wired headsets since the very first phone was released. I finally upgraded to the 3GS when it was announced, skipping the 3G rev. As such, I'm super familiar with the functions of the phone.
It seems to definitely be an issue with the jack itself, as I have now tested it independently on 3 phones, with 3 Apple headsets (the one that shipped originally with my phone and the new Apple/Bose headset, and with a headset that shipped with a 3G phone). As well, I've tested with two third party headsets - one made for the 3G and 3GS and one that works on my old iPhone via a TTY adapter.
I'm really hoping that I can get some feedback from Apple directly as I don't know of any simple resolves for a hardware issue that has shown up on 3 phones and repeated on two unique trips to the Genius Bar.
Btw, while I was in the Apple store recently at the Genius Bar, the person behind me showed up with the same problem.

  • Touch screen problem - 3,5 jack in Iphone is not compliant with other 3,5 headset

    Hi,
I have plugged a Beast head set in to my Iphone 5; 3,5 jack after that the touch screen is problem. Sometimes I can not select correct a application icon (Another app near by openned) or I can not type correct a character (one or some other character apreared) when I try to type.
I did all kind of reset, inclucluded factory reset. But the problem still remain the same.
    How to fix this issue?
PS: Before I have same problem with my Iphone 2G when I try with a Ipod headset. I think that it is all Apple headset but it is diffrence. It seem the Ipod headset is not included microphone that why the pin is diffrence. After sometimes I try with Ipod headset then touch screen totally die and shop need to change for me a new Iphone.
Does the 3,5 jack in Iphone is not compliant with other 3,5 headset?
    Thanks,

i restored as a new. I am facing following problems :
    1. if iphone is locked then it won't get unlocked. I need to swipe/restart many times to unlock it. or need to use siri to unlock it.
    2. after unlocking iphone, it will work normally for few mins then there is some abnormal behaviour in its working.
for e.g some applications will open without actually opening it. some applications will close automatically.
    3. sometimes suddenly in the middle of work, iphone touch will stop responding.
There is no specific case for above problems. I m facing these issues in the middle of any applications at any moment of time.

  • IPad 3 Headset (Jack?) issues

Figured I would see what anyone else thinks.  I consider myself to be pretty darned knowledgeable about iDevices.  I have been inside iPhones, iPod touch, iPads. I can normally fix things easily. This one has me a bit worried
I bought an iPad 3 when they were released.  I bought it at Walmart for some odd reason (never again).  So when I checked out, the woman asked if I wanted to buy the protection plan.  I said no, because I always get applecare+.  She replied that it was the same as applecare, and I told her that I doubted it.  I said that if I have an issue with my ipad through applecare, I just get a new one.  She said you get the same thing here, but instead of driving 2 hours or shipping it off, you can come in here and get one. I decided to try it, and needless to say, it was not anything close.
The headphone jack on the iPad started doing something where when a set of headphones are plugged in, it would freeze up and then reboot, and get stuck on the Apple logo.  Then it started ruining headphones within 2 weeks.  No matter how many we bought, it would short them out or something.
So, I tried to take it back to WM, and they said they were not responsible, and that I needed to contact an outside source.  I did, and they had me ship it off to be repaired.  It came back, and you could tell that someone just like me had repaired. As a matter of fact, I could have done a better job
Never the less, it came back and the headset jack seemed to work.  However, it is already starting to do the same thing.  Assuming that they actually replaced it like they were supposed to, then I assume that it has to be something else.  Since it worked at first, I guess they did replace it.  I can replace the jack again, and just see, but I feel there might be another problem elsewhere.
Moral of the story, is DO NOT BUY WALMART extended service plan.  I think that the lady was not lying to me, but ended up selling me the wrong plan. After some research, it is apparent that Walmart has 2 levels.  First level is the service plan ($79), and then a replacement plan ($99 I think).
I will be fixing it this time

  • Yoga 13 - Headset jack with splitter adapter doesn't recognize microphone

    Hi,
I'm trying to use my LifeChat LX 2000 headset with the Yoga 13's combi jack. The LX2000 has separate plugs for mic and headphone. I bought a standard adapter to convert this into the required combi jack, but only the headphones work. The mic is not recognized. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the conexant driver and replaced the adapter with a new one. No change.
The headset works on other computers with split jacks.
    Any thoughts?
I know that there is the option of USB headsets, but since I already own the LX2000 and would prefer to not block another precious USB slot, I'd prefer using the available combi jack - as that's what the jack should be there for...
    Thanks,
    Jan

Thanks, XMB. This is very helpful information. Can't believe that even such a little item as a headset jack with three contacts has an universal industry standard...
I'll see if I can find an adapter that's wired for Apple standards, although it surprises me that Lenovo would choose the Apple method if most other PC's use another standard.
So can you confirm that the wiring diagram in below link is correct for the Apple vs Nokia wiring?
    http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/5393-S2-stock-headset-in-iphone-standard
Is there any documentation in the Yoga technical specs that allows to identify which wiring is used in the machine? I know you mentioned it uses the Apple standard, but it would be nice to know that this is mentioned in some documentation officially.
    Thanks

  • Using the headset jack with my accessory jack in car.

I have a question about using the headset jack in my car. When the iphone is plugged into my radio, how are phone calls received. Does the audio come through the car speakers or do you use the phone like you would with out it hooked up to the car.
    Thanks in advance.

The audio does not come out through the headphone jack to your car speakers. Phone call audio uses the built-in speaker and microphone, or a Bluetooth headset if one is paired. I have noticed that if I connect the aux patch cable +while a call is in progress+, audio is sent out to the car stereo.

  • Sunk headset jack

    Hi,
I've just bought a second hand iphone and the headset jack is sunk into the iphone. Someone has advised me that i can get some sort of extended jack to work around this. Has anyone else heard this if so any ideas where i can get one?
    Thanks

If you bought one of the original iPhones (not the 3G but the Edge version only) then yes, by design Apple recessed the jack further than normal. The only work around is to use headphones that are made for the iPhone (they fit) or to buy an adapter which can be found at any Apple Store, the online store, or any place that sells Apple accessories.

  • Headset Jack - Silver Collar Broke Off

I connect my iPhone to my car audio system daily. Recently, the silver collar around the headset jack came off in pieces when I removed the audio jack.
Is this a replaceable part? Covered by warranty? Common?
    Thanks much,
    Rebecca

Iphone has a one year warranty.
Make an appointment at the genius bar to see about replacement.

  • Headset jack not working

i buy iphone 4s yesterday everything is ok except the headset jack when i put my headset to my phone the headset is no sound only the external speaker working not my headphone....pls. help me

You may have to take the iPhone to the Apple store or the store you bought it from
and exchange it for another one.
    or
    AppleCare: 1-800-275-2273
    Call AppleCare.
    Best.

  • Headset jack non-functional

Got a problem here. When I plug into my headset jack, I only get music from the ext speakers, nothing from the headset. I've inspected and tried blowing out the port with a bulb blower, but didn't help. Is there a fix for this?
Will I have to send it in. How long is the turnaround? I can't be w/o my phone for long.

    Call AppleCare - (800) 694-7466.
If AppleCare determines your iPhone should be picked up for inspection and testing for repair or possible replacement, you are offered a loaner iPhone for a $29 charge but if you ask nicely, you might be able to get this fee waived for the loaner iPhone.
The loaner iPhone is shipped to you in the box you will use to return your iPhone to AppleCare including the return shipping label and tape for the box. The shipping in both directions is via Fed-Ex priority overnight.
You remove your iPhone's SIM card and place it in the loaner iPhone which allows for receiving and placing calls right away but in order to transfer your data to the iPhone such as contact information, calendar events, music & video, etc. will require syncing the loaner iPhone with iTunes.
The entire process should take no more than 5 days including shipment in both directions. Your repaired or replaced iPhone will be shipped to you with the box you will use to return the loaner iPhone to Apple - moving your SIM card from the loaner iPhone to your repaired or replaced iPhone.

  • Can I share a bluetooth headset with my iPhone 4 and my Mac?

Can I share a bluetooth headset with my iPhone 4 and my Mac? I don't mean both at the same time. I just think it's silly to buy a separate headset for each. I'd like to be able to sometimes use the headset with my Mac and other times use it with my iPhone. Is this possible? How hard is it to set up and is it annoying to switch over from one to the other.
The headset would be used 75% of the time with my iPhone.

Contacts can be synced direct with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 via the iTunes sync process along with syncing calendar events, notes, and reminders. This is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
If you don't use Outlook for contacts - your Outlook address book is empty, before the first sync for this data enter one contact in the Outlook address book. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data.
Or if your iPhone 4 is running iOS 6, you can create your hotmail account using the hotmail account preset with the iPhone's Mail app per the instructions included with this link. If your iPhone 4 is not running iOS 6, you will need to manually create the account as an Exchange account.
    http://www.wikihow.com/Sync-a-Hotmail-Account-on-an-iPhone
Regardless if you have any contacts available in your hotmail online address book, you should be provided a merge prompt when turning contacts on for over the air syncing with your hotmail account settings on the iPhone, which you want to select. This will merge your existing iPhone contacts with your hotmail online address book and merge your hotmail online address book with your iPhone contacts.
To have the contacts available on the iPhone 5, create your hotmal account with the Mail.app on the iPhone 5 followed by turning contacts on for over the air syncing with the account settings on the iPhone.
Or after syncing your iPhone 4 contacts direct with your Outlook address book, sync your Outlook contacts with the iPhone 5.

  • What is the best headset for the iphone 5 that is not bluetooth.  I need great listening and speaking quality.

What would you consider to be the "best" non-bluetooth headset for the Iphone 5?  I have had some serious health issues of which could be stemming from the bluetooth and I need great sound quality both listening and speaking.  Any suggestions?

Problem with wired headsets is that there is not std for mic in headsets so if its not 100 % made for iphones it will not work
