  • [SOLVED] Qtile: ImportError: cannot import name Key

I'm on a fresh Arch install trying to set up Qtile. Configuration file I'm using comes from
    /usr/share/doc/qtile-git/examples/config
    When I test it with
    python2 ~/.config/qtile/config.py
    I'm getting the following error:

Needless to say I can't even start Qtile. Any idea what may be wrong here?

Thanks to dx and cjbarnes18 from Qtile IRC I got it working. The newest release is breaking config.py. In short Group, Key, Screen, Drag, and Click has been moved to config. Old config:
from libqtile.manager import Key, Screen, Group, Drag, Click
    New one:
from libqtile.config import Key, Screen, Group, Drag, Click

  • [SOLVED] cannot find root device after pacman -Syu

Today I had a problem after pacman -Syu. Of course, my problem stemmed from not paying attention to the following (from https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57205):
    <b>Read pacman's output while upgrading.</b>
I could no longer boot. I received a message "cannot find root device" or something similar indicating a device with the appropriate UUID had not been found and I was being dropped into a recovery shell, then, when I typed exit, an emergency shell, followed shortly by a freeze.
After some investigation it appeared my initramfs was broken/non-existent/something after the install. I booted into a live CD and found that updating pacman again, and mkinitcpio -p linux both displayed the following error: "Failed to create temporary working directory in /tmp". Long story short: mktemp was segfaulting. This should be extremely easy to check if you're having a similar problem. I replaced it with the version on the live CD and ran the pacman update again. Success. If you do this, you may need to make sure your live cd architecture and installed kernel architecture are the same.
I'm not sure of the etiquette here, so I'm posting this in case someone else has the same problem I did; and benefits from a similar solution. I have checked the etiquette post and I don't think it's clear whether it's kosher to post things that don't actually require a solution. However, if I have misinterpreted the rules/etiquette and/or this type of post is considered extraneous please remove it.

You have to use lvm first.  As all those vg*, lv*, and pv* commands are actually links to the lvm command, you should have to do something like "lvm vgscan" instead of just "vgscan".
Edit: oh and at that point in the boot process, you are actually in the initramfs still (ash to be specific).
Edit2: I was having issues with a USB keyboard and a new machine (actually just a new bios), and found out that because of windows 8's requriement for a fast POST, the default is to turn off the scanning for usb devices.  Though this was for UEFI, and I am not sure if the same would apply for a bios booting machine...

  • Cannot import VM template after VM server IP address chanegd

My VM server and pool IP got changed. I manage to get it back to active status. Now my problem is I cannot see any template in the seed_pool folder. Is there any metadata to sync up?
    VM 2.2
Single server with server pool master, utility and vm server.

If you deleted the server pool and recreated it all information of the serverpool has been dropped.
Fortunately your server still has the information.
Unfortunately you need to reimport everything by hand... There is no option like "sync" my new server.
This import can be done via the OVM Manager:
Resources => Virtual Machine Image => Import.

  • Message: cannot import xml, even after exporting using file, export, xml, and not touching the file

I need to change the messages for a different language.  Has anyone been able to set this XML file to import?  Some of the content is in Norwegian, but don't how that will affect it. But it will not import a file, even if it was just exported.

    Hi Patrick,
I tried few import/export scenarios in captivate 7 and it works fine for me. I think it will be a good idea if you can mail me the .xml file along with steps to reproduce the issue.

  • After pacman -Suy my touchpad is not working properly

First off, let me say that I do run xorg without an xorg.conf. I updated today, and now scrolling is gone. Tapping is gone. Tapping seems to make the mouse jump around the screen. I'm afraid this is a feature and not a problem? Any one has some input?
Edit: Middleclicking(two finger tap) is also gone omg.

A lot of people had this problem after the update of Xorg to 1.8. This was becaude the old hal fdi policy files were made obsolete. You should now add that type of information in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ instead.
    Check this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=100676

  • Cannot import a CD after upgrading to 11.0.1

I just upgraded to 11.0.1 and tried to import a Christmas CD I just bought. When I try this I get the following message: Error occurred while converting the file "Cause It's Christmas". An unknown error occurred.
I have tried different cd drives, I've restarted, rebooted and banged my head off the desk. I've changed the import setting everywhere and still no joy. Never had this problem before. Want the cd ripped so I can play it over the systems but no luck.
Anyone else have this problem and been able to solve it?
I'm on a desktop Mac running 10.7.5 system.
Please help before I have divorced!
    Cheers,
    Mark

To the original question of how to sync. If you have tried the usual routes via selecting Playlists from your Device Music page. And/Or Drag and dropping a playlist onto your device and neither work, it may be that your songs are unchecked.
Right Click on a song in your playlist you are trying to sync. If the entryies at the bottom give you the option to Check selection. Then click this and repeat for all songs in that playlist. You can select all songs in a playlist by Cmd + A
If you see Uncheck Selection then this is not the cause. It must be something else.

  • KDE never finish to start after pacman -Syu [SOLVED]

    Hi to All.
I have upgraded my system with pacman -Syu (I have to upgrade first broadcom-wl).
after upgrading to new kernel, I reinstalled pacman and nvidia and nvidia-utils
started kde and it begins to start session, but 4 processs get full cpu and never ends the session init
the processes are kbuildsyscoca (2 processes), kded4 and kconf_update
If I start twm instead of kde it works
I readed the forums and althoug not seen something similar, decide to downgrade kernel, and recompile (reinstall broadcom-wl, and nvidia drivers)
then tested again and the same results.
last test was to move my .kde and .kde4 folders to a backup and start kde again (starting from startx and not kdm)
this time it launched a lot (more than 100 kconf_update trying to update some stuff of kopete)
then deinstalled kopete and all kde-meta packages that are not needed now, but still have the same problem,
the 4 processes keep running and the desktop never comes up. (black screen with cursor I can move)
    anyone with similar sympthoms?
    any thing I can try?
as a summary x seems to work fine (twm starts)
    wireless works fine
    nvidia works fine
only kde get stuck ant the init
    any help appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi.
I will post here by parts as the post is too long
test with other user in my system and with root all fails with the same sympthoms
I attach here the logs of the following test done with another user (charo)
    steps.
    /etc/rc.d/kdm stop
    rm /var/log/kdm.log
    rm /var/log/xorg.o.mslog
    rm /home/charo/.xsession-errors
    rm -r /home/charo/.kde
    rm -r /home/charo/.kde4
    rm -r /tmp/kde-charo
    rm -r /tmp/ksocket-charo
    rm -r /var/tmp/kdecache-charo
so If I not forhet none, all stuff regarding kde for user charo is non existant
    then started kdm
    /etc/rc.d/kdm start
then login with user charo in a standard kde4 session
the splash screen comes up and only the 2 fisrt icons come up (between the first and the second almost 2 minutes passes), then the screen goes blue (default background), and a powerdevil error is shown, we can move the mouse,  and clicking in the error it dissapear, but eh screen keeps blue without any data (icons, applets, panels, etc), no element is shown

  • Boot fails after pacman -Syu [SOLVED]

    Hello forums,
I did a full system upgrade two days ago. Getting this on boot

LVM is fine and root partition is fine. I can mount it manually from initramfs console.
Running "./init" or exit at the console results in kernel panic, root mounted in /new_root or not.
    pacman -Syu went without problems.
    Thanks in advance.

The issue was initcpio ZFS hook. Evidently, if root partition isn't on ZFS the boot breaks.
In this case, ZFS should be handled by systemd service which will mount ZFS partitions from userland.
    Procedure :
inside initcpio console, manually mount the root filesystem, chroot to it and run init
    mount /dev/path/to/root /new_root
    switch_root /new_root /sbin/init
System boots. Afterwards, remove zfs hook from /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and rerun mkinitcpio. Also check that zfs.service system unit is active and enabled.

  • Gnome crash after pacman update [solved]

    hey,
i update my system and restart the computer.
Display Manager is boot up (Slim), i log in and i get crash.
"oh no .....all extensions have been disable...."
I thought it might be something with that extensions so i removed them (~/local/share/gnome-shell/extensions)
then i got the error " oh no.... a problem has occurred and the system can't recover...."
So i return the extensions back but still the same problem.
i tried to reinstall gnome might be help
    (pacman -Rcns gnome)
    and still the same problem.
    Do you have any idea?
    thanks

Probably it's not the case but I had that exact same issue when I was booting without the systemd kernel parameter:
    init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd
Gnome just refused to work while KDE worked properly.

  • Cannot Access Apple Website After Migration Assistant [SOLVED]

After using Migration Assistant, I was no longer able to access www.apple.com or download using Software Update on the new Mac from an account that was migrated. It turned out to be one or more obsolete Apple cookies.
If you're having this problem, do the following:
    1) Run Safari.
    2) Choose Preferences from the Safari menu.
    3) Click Security.
    4) Click Show Cookies.
    5) Delete every cookie that starts with ".apple".

Well, my issue was completely in my network - in fact my Broadband router.
I have very simplistic acl's on my router that simply define timed access for the kid's devices (2 x laptops and 1 x iPod touch) - no blocking of websites by URL or anything fancy - just permit Internet access (by MAC address) between time A and Time B. And having realised that all 3 of these devices were suffering from various (and, strangely, different) connectivity issues (iPod Safari and 1 laptop couldn't get to Apple Website, whereas the other laptop could; 1 laptop could log into iTunes Apps Store, whereas other laptop could not; etc.), I decided to simply disable the deployed ACLs. And immediately the iPod Touch and 'associated' laptop could download iPod touch app updates (e.g. the reason for the original post), and also access websites that they couldn't previously, etc.
Also seemed to solve the iTunes Store access issues with the other laptop, although that device still has other connectivity issues....
So, anyone with a Belkin F7D3402 v1 running Firmware v1.00.51 (possibly UK only Belkin device - and which I have already reported to Belkin as having a buggy DHCP reservation implementation - i.e. it doesn't work!) - be warned: if you have ACL's defined, even without discrete/individual URL filtering, it might be affecting general Internet connectivity in a very random and weird way....

  • System stuffed after pacman update [SOLVED]

I have just updated to the new kernel, udev, etc. Doco states something about module loading which I did not really understand, so I did nothing.
Now when I try to run arch, gdm no longer comes up, with error messages about /opt/gnome/sbin/gdm not existing. There is a file there but it will not run by typing in gdm, but it does by typing in sh gdm. Not sure what that means. I can then get into Gnome, but now also my networking is no longer functioning.
I assume this has something to do with modules and the new udev. Can someone explain?
As to the changes to fstab, which I also do not understand, I never had any /dev/discs/blah/blah entries anyhow.
One last question, is this whole issue of udev and device naming going to settle down sometime soon - no one can seem to decide what anything si called these days.
    Thanks,
    8)

Having got networking working (hehe) with the forcedeth driver, I decided to try and get the e1000 working. So I swapped the ethernet cable to the Intel E1000 port, booted up arch (expecting the networking not to work) and then to embark on a series of trial and error config file mods.
Amazingly though, the ethernet now worked despite having made no changes whatsoever. Init conf files are exactly the same as when the ethernet connection failed.
THi seems odd since I did not change eth0 to eth1 (surely I should if the hardware detect finds both devices)!? Apparently the e1000 was eth0 originally, and again now, but when the e1000 was not located, the forcedeth became eth0. This makes sense, but only if the e1000 was not picked up by the hardware detect (which conforms to what I currently believe), but then why is it now being picked up?
I am more confused than ever.
Regarding the previous post from the guy who said disabling his soundcard oss emulation fixed a similar problem - even more surprising that the sound card driver should affect networking - unless I misunderstood what he is saying.

  • After upgrading iTunes software, I cannot import playlists

After upgrading iTunes software, I cannot import playlists.  Help!

    To be more clear:
    1.  My music and my playlists are on an external drive.  My playlists are saved as .m3u files.
    2.  Everything was working perfectly before the iTunes upgrade yesterday.  But now when I use the iTunes "File/Library/Import Playlist" feature, the playlist that is imported is EMPTY.
    3.  I can open the .m3u file and see that it contains the songs with their full path.  So the .m3u file contains the correct information, it is just not importing into iTunes like it used to.
    4.  Apparenty when iTunes upgraded, it changed some setting and now everything is out of sync.
    I am so stumped.
